Every time I go to a store they dont have it on display and they do not promote it at all. They promote Droid X and Samsung Fascinate but the DInc is in the back. The DInc is the best android phone in my opinion but they say and i cant wait for the Incredible HD, the sales rep says a majority of people complain about the battery life but with the right kernnel it seems the 15000 mAh battery is fne as long as u dont over use it but i ploam o get a 2500mAh
I believe it's all about marketing. Big Red feels the X is the closest competition to the Evo. I agree, the Dinc is the best out there right now. as far as changing kernals...the vast majority of Dinc owners are not rooted and flashing a different kernal is not an option.
Look at this forum. Most people are rootedl
hehe
For every 1 person that is rooted and on this forum there are 10 that have no clue what xda is think the term rooted pertains to trees and plants.
Its all marketing. Motorla pays more then htc so they get more. Htc will promote big again when they launch another device for verizon most likely.

Found XDA after finding something in the Market I wanted. It said for "Rooted User" and being 1 of the 10 that had no clue I Googled and found this wonderful place.
Still have a ton of learning to do but hoping to get to a level of knowledge where most XDA'rs are at.
The DInc came out at a really bad time, in my opinion
It came out a few months before th Droid X, so it seems Verizon was too busy advertising their new upcoming Moto Droid phone, plus the Droid 2 was about to come out a few months after that
Just seems they had, in their eyes, more "important" phones on the horizon.
I never saw any adds leading up to he release of the DInc, but saw tons leading up to the X
I guess they see the X and D2 as more "true" successor's to their original Droid baby
Because the phone is 9 months old and I think the shortages it had really limited its numbers.

Yeah, I got mine in July. There was a 1-2 month wait and the X was coming out by the week's end. Blogs couldn't stop raving about it. It was going to be my last resort. I frantically scoured the net and thankfully found an Incredible at Amazon. Right look, right size, and right specs. Best phone decision ever. The life on this thing is unreal!
I was counting down the days to the Incredible release, waiting for either it or the N1 to be released first. Honestly, I only wish they released it sooner and I'm thankful that there are so many developers working on making it better.

You want to know the funniest thing? I had a HTC Eris that I LOVED. My one year old threw it in the toilet (no app for that), so I had to wait for my upgrade. Went to Wal-Mart and picked up a D1 for $50. 1 Week later, wifey and I are shopping, and I see that they now have the DInc for.... wait for it...
$28. I scrambled to find my boxes, manuals, and receipt. They have a 30 day return policy. BOOM HEADSHOT.
I am now the proud owner of a Dinc running UD 2.5 and incredikernel #21 (sp). I honestly feel like I stole it from Wal-Mart.
I feel like I have my ERIS back, except it took steroids and became a Marine.

That's because this forum is designed for people that are little more hardcore than average users.
But, still, after all of the rooting and modding that people seem to be drawn towards, I don't see much of anything that's so different than stock.
Personally, I'm not rooted and have no intentions of rooting. I see absolutely no need for it. These devices are touchy enough without messing with root access.

you wont understand until how much more potential your phone has until you actually start playing it. ive been rooted since the day i got my phone (it was the first thing i did after i activated it). was a little scared to do it at first but have no regrets. rooting this phone is as simple as plugging your phone into a computer now and opening an app with a 99.9% chance nothing will go wrong. back when i rooted my phone being scared to root it was understandable as you had to mess with multiple things to get it to work. it actually took me about 6 hours to do it (had to pop in and out the sd card at an exact time) but now its a piece of cake. you really should open yourself up to rooting which will give you access to all the work of these wonderful developers at xda. im ensuring you that you wont be disappointed. with all that said hopefully you will allow your dinc to operate at its fullest potential!
I rooted with no regrets. I specifically bought this phone in april because I knew mods/hacks would allow cisco groupname vpns. That was the only reason I was needing root, which came available months later. Some other pros were using undervolted kernels, nandroid, and minor asthetics, but big whoop.
Come january first, I doubt Dinc will be in VZ's plethora of phones. It had a long 8-9 month journey. I'll likely keep my Dinc through Q1 of 2012, when i'm eligible for a free upgrade.
The best part is, it will still be handy like an iPod Touch with SIP phone, our can be a good smart phone for my daughter (a blooming developer).

I even switched from sprint just to get the DINC>why u may ask... cause sprint didnt have a decent android phone in the 3.6 to 4 inch screen.. I would have loved the evo. but no 4g in the sticks were i live.. So far the DINC to me is one of the best phones out atm.. perfect size and the style is great.. nothing too flashy.... even engadget still says the same...
The DINC should at least get another update..Its got the horesepower.. but the ball is in verizons court etc..on that one.. im just gonna sit back and enjoy it for a year or so then see what else is out there..
This is NOT a Thread that I'm selling my Epic in, I need help deciding whether to keep my Epic or not. I want to change my Epic for an Evo 4G/BlackBerry. I like it and all, but the Epic just doesn't have enough development. I'd have to either get the Evo and Flash my phone EVERYday like I used to with my G1, or get a BlackBerry Bold 9650 and not Flash it at all. the Evo is a nice phone, it has all features working on CM7 which is a big plus for me, it's always up-to-date with MIUI, and was the phone I was going to get first, but it was sold out and I was impatient and I obviously regret it. Or, I could get a BlackBerry. Their much more simple and would meet my standards, but I'm afraid of Android-Withdrawal, but I could take it to OS6 and that looks cool.
So, what does everyone here think. Should I keep the Epic, let the price go down with more use, and wait to see what happens? Should I trade it in and get some cash and buy an Evo in order to fill my flashing addictions? Or should I sell it and buy a BlackBerry Tour2 9650 so that I can't Flash anymore, but have a pretty good phone? And the final option, should I just keep my Epic 4G, and live with it, and hope for the best?
Drop the epic and get an EVO lots of Rome to flash . Unless u Want to wait till September for the gingerbread update . Then the flashing begins for epic.
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA App
Keep the epic...CM7 will be out when official gingerbread in released!
I don't know man. September is a few months away, and that IF we get GingerBread then. And even though, we'll have CM7 ROMs from 3 different developers, a few AOSP from a few different developers, and maybe 2 MIUI ROMs. I wonder if we'll ever have Sense or a Port of maybe the Droid3? Or LG Optimus 2X? I don't think we have enough people.
Someone is already working on a sense port, the same dev that's working on miui. And we have a cm7 alpha 4. We need gingerbread source code to help move us along.

I came from a BB bold 9700. I did some beta testing for OS 6 on it. It was very nice but that is all the tinkering you could do with it was put a leak version of the OS or beta test. So I would say you have already commented on "flash withdrawal" so BB will be nice for about a month then you will be bored with it. One of the reasons I got the Epic was because of the keyboard coming from a BB and the screen size. My other options were the Intercept (which my son has) or the Shift but again the screen sold me on the Epic. I didn't even look to root or custom ROMS for at least 2 months after I bought it. But once you start it is hard to go back.
Hi my name is John and I am a flashaholic...LOL
Look up the ORD Thread in the Off-Topic. That's us. That Thread was my idea btw.
And I guess I'll stay. I guessssss...
Sounds like you've already made up your mind and are just looking for someone to talk you out of it... I carry a crackberry and my epic. The crackberry is free and I can do what I want with it, but I still keep an android that costs me ~40 bux a month and has horrific cell coverage most of the time just because it's an Android and the berry sucks for anything other than email.
I don't know much about the Evo other than it's large development base, crappy screen and lack of keyboard. If flashing a new ROM everyday is your goal, then get the Evo and live with the lackluster video performance and on screen keyboards.
If the only reason you're ditching the Epic is due to lack of development, then develop something...
I forgot to mention that the Epic's keyboard sucks and I barley use it. If at all. And I can't develop. My friends will think differently of me. Lol jk, I'm too lazy and I don't have the time. All these devs are high ballers. I wouldn't compare. They wouldn't take me as seriously.

I mean sure EvO has more roms but how many do you really need. My sister has an EVO and I read thru the EVO section and concluded only 4-5 roms are actually worth trying Synergy-Kingdom, MIkG, MIUI, CM7 or Gingerdeck and thats about it...The last three we will hopefully get once GB is released.

Hi John!
There totally should be an AFA (Android flashers Anon) cause I'd be in it.
I've only had the Epic for a couple months, but I wouldn't trade it for any of the other phones available for Sprint right now. It's fast, great hardware, and has a full keyboard. I use a handful of other devices for work, and my Epic is the best by far. (my Galaxy Tab is a close 2nd) It feels weird not having some new rom/customization come out every couple weeks or days on the Epic, but I've adapted to a slower dev cycle that I was used to. And honestly, the only thing keeping me from running one of the GB leaks is the lack of a custom kernel to fix the hw keyboard lag. So until there's something that feels and works as good or better than my Epic, I'll be hanging on to it for dear life..
No offense but hopefully sucks.....especially if u upgrade yearly.....the good thing I learned my lesson and not going through that again.
But again that's just me.

So I ordered this phone, it's sitting here in the box...I am coming from the Vibrant...**** gps and now no 911 calls on 2.3/cm7/miui...
Was on monthly contract expired...signed 2yr to get this phone at 333 overnighted+tax...haven't opened it yet..I guess as soon as I do, I actually sign the contract?
Only thing is I'm not too happy about spending money on a phone that has basically only 2 roms available both stock looking GB...I am so used to the beautiful look of miui, not to mention the built in backup that has failed 0 times...its so flawless, anytime I flashed a new miui variant, it took 5 minutes to get all my apps/settings/alarm back to what it was...lockscreen music controls...custom boot animations, status bars...well everything...
Reason I am debating is, when I got the vibrant home a few weeks after it came out there was like a hundred roms available...here..not the case...and I am not writing this as any kind of a knock against the devs that ARE actually working on this phone, so please don't take it that way. I just want to be sure that there are things to come for this phone. The vibrant was a horrible experience as far as updates and Sources from samsung...already I see the ATT ver of this has ICS...again ALREADY t-mo's phone is behind...will this trend continue?
Thoughts?
You don't deserve this phone. Send it back. Now!

Did u read the whole post...I specifically said this is no way a knock on the devs that ARE actually dev. for the device...sorry If i came across bad, but I was looking for feedback from someone who has something constructive to say to my specific situation...
Send it back and put the 333 and your time into learning some of this and then you won't have to wait...you could contribute.

Is this phone going to have all the devs and rom's the vibrant had? Maybe not. A lot of people supported the vibrant and there were not as many phone choices. Android phones have expanded with more choices so the devs are more spread out. Does this phone have good roms? Yes, yes it does. And I bet more to come. Should you open your phone? Probably not since usually every time someone post something like this they turn out to be rom and dev bashers and trolls. Trade it for an amaze if your in doubt. Or appreciate what is here and have fun.

First of all guyz, lay off.. He's not being a mcdouche he's just really worried!
I was too bro.. I came to this phone from the nexus s and at first I was like.. Wtf?? 4 roms? No ics? This was about 2 weeks ago. After spending some time with beastmod though, there is no more looking back.. It's beautiful, blazing fast.. Battery will rape the galaxy s battery.
Keep in mind that this phone is only a few months old so things will pick up. There is a cm9 in the works and an miui rom as well... Unless you have way to get a galaxy nexus, this is the phone to have.. Do yourself a favor and open that box!
Your contract and buyers remorse period starts when fedex/ups drops it at your door not when you open your phone.

Actually on tmobile USA you can return the phone within 14 days of getting it
Edit: even if you open it up believe
Coming from the Evo 3D forums to here all I see are POS's and rude people.
But to be honest I would wait until you can get it for cheaper if you really really want it.
$333 is A LOT, they had the whiter version for $99 on contract a day or two ago.
As for the dev for the phone it gets better, when I got the GSM e3d it had nothing....after a month it had a great amount of tweaks and roms
look, if you are on t-mobile you basically have two options unless you want to buy a gsm unlocked phone such as the nexus. Amaze or GSII neither have ICS. We have a cm dev with an alpha cm7 and is working on cm9. Does amaze have that? I prefer sense over touchwiz but use go launcher and don't see much touchwiz anyway. How many roms do you need? I had an evo 4g before this which has a crapload of roms but really you had sense, aosp cm based, miui.
You can wait for the next phone but when will that be? next month? spring? summer?

There's actually 4.5 roms here, you have stock(and the updated stock), cm7, juggernaut, beastmod, and a half working miui build.
On the nexus s you have vanilla android, cm7(vanilla android though it's definitely the best vanilla android), ICS(vanilla android) and miui.
Looks fairly even to me...any touchwiz roms on the Nexus S? Where's the real variety?

Well, I think you should return it, i wish i could return mine ( bought a month ago, $570)
for monthly4g $30 plan. First because the screen and lines really piss me off, and i think me buying a vibrant would of have been a better choice and upgrading my pc with the rest of the money. I'm 15 so $570 was alot of savings. If you work i guess buying it off contract and getting monthly4g wouldnt be much a loss as you would have no contract.
Also, the roms here piss me off to, and accessories available and how the colors, build quality is higher on my old $200 prepaid phone.
Edit: Also, coming from the Optimus V roms, I had alot more roms and even miui on there, just stock upgraded here.
Hey, guys. He was looking for opinions, not a lynch mob. Stop going on the offensive because some people have the gall to give a little criticism toward the phone you have - it makes the community seem worse in everyone else's eye. This isn't 4chan, and there's no need for such rude behavior.
Getting my White SG2 tomorrow - stoked! I know this will probably get balked at as a dumb ass thread, but gimme me a break, it's the general section. I'm new to the SG2 forums, been looking around the last couple days, but want to know if some users could offer some starting off tips. I understand there are no stable cm roms at the moment, so is what's available mostly just tweaks of the stock tw 4.0? What are the current benefits of rooting, removal of bloatware and tw theming?
For the record, I've rooted and run circles around my last two phones, but they were both HTC so this is my first dance with a Samsung Android, and I hear it's a little different.
Anyway, thanks and I'm excited to jump into this baby!
welcome to the sgs2 ,i love my phone but development sucks over here ,seems like there are a bunch of immature teenagers in this forum cursing each other out and seems like a dev gets banned every week .very dissapointing if your coming from an HTC phone where the dev support is mostly pretty good and civil. But any how the sgs2 is a great phone ...enjoy and welcome
i use beastmod rom.... Phone is sweet but i just got a nexus today and damn... that phone even though it's pentile it looks sweet at 720p.
Only tip from me is beware of static images.. super amoled burns in faster than plasma.... I always keep screen moving... my old galaxy s had notification bar burn in and even icons and i was good with it. Use a rom of theme with blue clock or easy color... image retention with white clock is almost instant.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using XDA App
best stable rom around here would probably be juggernaut rom paired with faux's kernel(very very smooth) use that with touchwiz 4.5 and you'll customize the theme however you want.

It's my understanding from the reading I've done so far that cm9 is in the works...supposedly maybe an ics rom??
To all the others, thanks for the suggestions. Even though the SG2 has been around awhile, the TMO version is still pretty new, and I think most people who have upgraded to a 'new' TMO phone will either be on this or the Amaze, so hopefully the pumped up devving is coming. And with ICS on the horizon, who know's what's to come...? At the TMO store the other day and a rep (who uses the SG2 as his phone) told me he's pretty sure the SG2 will be getting ICS within 1-2 months. For those interested, he also told me he was sure that when the next iphone hits (iphone 5?) TMO will carry it...but who knows on that front lol.
Thats probably good news for Tmobile if they get the iPhone but that does nothing for me as I don't like them, my hopes are T-Mobile switches to LTE and carries the GS3 but that's a long shot on the LTE thing for this year but more than likely they will have it in the future

You're talking about the 'streaks' that show up on the screen? I've read about this elsewhere on XDA, anxious to see for myself when the phone gets here sometime today. Im fairly certain Tmobile is going to start switching over to LTE Read This, there is some really interesting info in it about tmobile and LTE.
I would suggest you spend 1 or 2 weeks to use it first, once you get a hang of it you can upgrade android version or root the phone using Odin.

Agree! I came here from HTC G2 (Vision). The support over there is Amazing! So many roms that I couldn't decide. The devs are very nice and professional unlike here. Call me troll/hater but I'm telling the truth. I am a bit disappointed by the support for this phone. I wish the CM team has more love for this device.
Anyway, welcome to the GS2 family!

Me too i miss mexdroid team lot drama on here
I've been given the opportunity to trade my incredible + $20 for a fascinate. Should I do it?
I am kinda really attached to my phone and I can get an upgrade as early as April anyway. I know the fascinate has a pretty darn good build of ICS working on it which is the only reason I'm considering it.
Like I said, I love this phone and am apprehensive to trade it for something else. ICS would be nice, but I'm not sure how many quirks the build has.
Any thoughts? The deal would take place on Friday so I dont have much time to sit and think.

Bigger screen... HELL YEAH
Less ram hell no.
-My life is a shooting range, people never change-
After Samsung's antennagate debacle with the first line of Galaxy S phones, you shouldn't waste your time with the Fascinate. I know it's been "fixed" but that was piss poor handling by Samsung.
No..........
I wouldn't take a fascinate for free. I know to many people with Samsung phones that just have problem after problem. No network connection. My mothers Infuse just turns off randomly. A woman I work next to hers drops 4G to no connection I've pulled her simcard/battery at least 3 times recently. My brother has a NS4g he was telling my yesterday he had no network connection or was dropped to 1x. Battery pull once again. A kid a used to work with had a galaxy S 1 random reboots and just stop charging. Another girl I work with also has a galaxy S 1 ive never seen a phone go into safe mode before. Battery pull. The main reason I passed on the GNexus is because it was made by Samsung.
Long story short NO

I now remember reading about the fascinate having less ram, but forget the exact reason why.
Thanks everyone for your feedback. I will be keeping my Incredible and will continue working on my Sense 1.0 theme that I cannot wait to share

In case you still on the fence, no. Don't do it. The ICS ROMs for Inc are making good progress.

Another no from me.
Of course you are asking a bunch of dINC owners
still I think the dINC is more future proof (even considering how old it is) than the Fascinate.
Yeah I've decided I'm not going to do it. The GPU is worlds better on the fascinate, but with an upgrade right around the corner and me being completely satisfied with this phone (heck I may wait even longer) I'm just gonna stick around. If the fascinate had 4G then it might have been a done deal.
Again thanks all for the feedback!

You're welcome!
I went from the Dinc to the Fascinate. Keep the Dinc. The only thing that the Fascinate has on the Dinc is the bigger screen and a better DAC.
I personally bought the DINC because it was the smallest smartphone available. Sadly, it still is one of a kind in that department. I would try out the ICS build. I am using it now. It's quite stable and will make you feel like you have a new phone even though you have a two year old one.

I have tried out the ICS build and I'm not very satisfied with it. I am hugely picky about the smoothness and responsiveness of my phone rom and ICS on the inc isn't quite there yet due to the graphics drivers not supporting the GPU acceleration properly. I'll give it another shot if that ever gets fixed. That was the main draw of the fascinate to me, same gpu as the gnexus, same smoothness of the gnexus.

Just my opinion, I would never trade a phone you are happy with for anyone's phone unless it was a large upgrade and you were sure you could return it. Many phones have minor annoyances which would make you regret it even if the phone was a minor upgrade. I run miui v4 and despite the things not yet worked out, it is still excellent.

Without a doubt go for it...Just saw your first post maybe you decided already...I've had my fascinate for a year now and the last three months of ics builds have been great. I've used both the teamhacksung and the gummy builds (which I'm running now).
Both builds have been for the most part stable from what I've experienced.
My buddy has two DINC's at the moment with one running MIUI, I wouldn't trade my shattered LCD stylin' fascinate for it...I soft bricked my fassy for two weeks before I got the time to read up enough and restore it, then I dropped it flush, face down on concrete that same exact day...
so yeah take the i500 or sure...save your upgrade if you want
I have a special place in my heart for the Fascinate, but the GPS problem was painful to deal with, no matter how many gpsfix.zip's people put out.
