[Q] I buggered my Desire - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Guys.
Basically, I was running Leedroid 3.0.8.2 and fancied checking out his new HD Rom (LeeDrOiD HD V3.3.1-Port-R2). I did a Nandroid backup and copied everything over to my computer.
I then formatted my SD as I needed a 1gb ext 3 partition and I only had a 512mb. I tried doing this is Mini Tool Partition Wizard. It seemed successful but whenever I try to flash the rom it doesn't work, and in Recovery it won't mount sd ext.
I've currently just got my 8GB SD Card formatted and ready to go, but without partition as I don't know what else to do.
All my phone does now is start up, and get stuck at a screen flashing an Android logo. I CAN get into recovery.
I've tried flashing an RUU from Fastboot but it always says either wrong RUU or no usb connection.
I've tried unrooting but it does not find the phone over usb as I cannot boot it up properly.
My info is:

Don't know what else to do!
Thanks for any help

You've USB bricked your phone.
Start your phone in fastboot (back button + power) and issue fastboot enableqxdm 0 command.
When you partition your SD make sure that Fat partition is first and that both FAT and ext partitions are primary.

Thanks for your reply.
Not sure what you mean though. It's in fastboot and I type in that command, but it does not give me access to the sd card, and what do I do after?

I've tried partitioning with Mini Tool again, and it again says "e can't mount dev block mmcblk0p2"

One important thing you have to note during partition via MINI TOOL. .. is that.. when you create partition.. please make sure your both partitions are PRIMARY .. try this and flash the ROM again.

Thanks for your reply.
Just managed to Partition with Gparted. I had been selecting primary partitions with Mini Tool, but the phone could never find the partition for whatever reason.
Just tried intalling the Leedroid HD rom again, and have got to setup. FIngers Crossed

Isn't the HD ROM solely for the Desire HD and not the Desire Bravo though?

What version of AlphaRev are you running. Some of them have a partition size too small for some of the larger roms so when you try to install them only have gets installed and the phone won't boot.
Either use a partition table with a larger system partition or a smaller rom or open the rom and delete some of the apps you don't want.

They did not flash a different hboot, only the s-off procedure. And this does not change the partition sizes.
I went to alpharev.nl and did the standard burn to disc and boot from CD procedure, so 1.8 I think?
Would going to Clockwork Mod and creating a 1GB partition w/ 0 swap memory resolve this?

From reading the first post of the ROM you're trying to install your SDcard should be all FAT32 with no EXT partition.
I formatted the microsd card to FAT32 using Windows, didn't create any partitions (seeing as the rom author said it's not needed) flashed the ROM via CWM but it still hangs at the screen. Even after removing some system apps manually, I cut the size down by 10meg near enough.
I simply don't understand what could be wrong here...

I've sorted it now - wipe data/factory reset, wipe dalv cache, create a ext3 partition of 1gb (all done through CWM) and then flashed. It works great, only pickle I have with it is I can't hear anything, but the call connects perfectly. It's the radio so I'm gonna go search around for it, god I hate being a noob

Was in the same situation, will pass very fast.
I had the same problem.
This is what I did:
1) Boot in ubuntu (u can burn a CD, boot from the CD and try it out - not necessary to install) or you can burn GParted Live CD
2) partition your SD card whit GParted
3) mount your partitions
4) boot in windows and format again your SD card
5) copy the ROM that you want to install on the SD card
6) boot your device in recovery, install the ROM, reboot and your done
Hope this help you out.

[Q] Problem with sdcard and partion

Hi!
Im not really a new to these things but really need your advise.
I rerooted my phone yesterday and everything went ok. Then S-OFF still ok.
Problem started when I made partion to my sdcard with Gparted. 1 gig partion to EXT4 and rest to FAT32. Tried to install Insertcoin and got infinite bootloop after few minutes of use. Went back to Gparted and saw that partion was not succesful. I repartioned it EXT3 and after that phone won't see my sdcard anymore.
Solutions? Thanks!
are you following correct order for partition??
1st fat 32
2nd ext 3/4
if you have windows then try partitioning with some software like easus partition manager..also order is very important
also see to it tht you are downloading the rom for stock hboot..the rom is available for stock hboot and cm7 hboot
Sent from my HTC Desire using Tapatalk
1.) Install Android SDK
2.) Connect phone to pc when in "fastboot"-mode
3.) Go with cmd to the "tools"-folder of the sdk
3.) Enter 'fastboot oem enableqxdm 0' and then 'fastboot reboot'

[Q] Can anyone please suggest or help on what to do in my situation?

I recently followed the video noob guide on rooting my desire and installed the Leedroid 3.0.7 rom.
Everything was working perfectly until recently my phone started to freeze and the only option was to remove the battery to switch it off. This kept on occurring more and more often and now it refuses to go past the splash screen. It is just stuck there until the battery dies.
The bios works so i went there wiped data/factory settings, wiped cache and dalvik cache and installed the newer leedroid 3.0.8 rom. It installed without errors but still after reboot doesn't go past the splash screen.
Does this mean it's bricked? and what can i do make it work again?
More info:
It's the amoled unbranded htc desire.
I did all the steps in the noob proof guide here on xda including the custom splash screen.

Did you follow the steps and create an EXT3 partition on your SD card and align it before flashing the ROM?
I have a 4gb card, i created a 3gb fat32 partition and a EXT4 1gb partition
basicly everything was done 100% same as in that guide
The first page of the 3.0.8.2 LeeDroid ROM says to use and EXT3. It probably doesn't recognize EXT4 partitions. I'd start with re-formatting your card, aligning the partition then flashing the ROM again.
thnx i will try that
I need a working phone to use gparted, don't I? I can't enable usb mode from bios or anything
P.S. If i use my friends xperia with my sd card in gparted will the partition work later on my desire? thnks

no you dont need a working phone to use gparted. if u can or want to, connect your sdcard via usb or some sort and use gparted to partition it.
if i were you, i'd flash AmonRA recovery. you'll be able to partition your sdcard and format it to ext2/3/4. no need to connect to pc to partition it. hassle free.
well i got a card reader made an ext3 1gb partition, still same problem when it doesn't go past the splash screen. tried leedroid and reflex s roms.
any suggestions?
how do i go back to stock from this point?
If I were you I'd try a different ROM. THE absolute most stable, most worked at, and most widely used is Cyanogenmod, and personally I have never had any issues with that. It is an AOSP (Android Open Source Project) ROM, so you don't get HTC Sense, but you do get a lot more in speed etc.
If you're looking for a good sense ROM, I'd recommend RCMixS, or Cool Sensation V6 (If you don't mind your phone being a little slow for looks etc.)

[Q] Partition SD

Hi!
I got some question related to Partition SD card.
Running RCMix S v2.0 CM7
Right now i have 6.42 Gb fat32 and 1Gb Ext 3.
I partition this using CWM-Alpharev recovery 2.5.1.8
When i try to use Gparted to partition to Ext 4 while am on Rcmi. The rom wont able to read the sd and it restart. After it got stuck at "why so serious" screen so i pulled battery out and get into recovery to flash the rom again. Thats when i ran you another problem i get cant mount error. "E:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1 (or /dev/block/mmcblk0) (No such file or directory) E: Can't mount SDCARD:" I has tried all the usb fix thing but no luck. The only way i fixed it turn it back to 1 Gb Ext 3 partition.
My question is!
Is there a a way to partition to Ext 4? and is Ext 4 better than Ext 3. Can i stay with Ext 3 since the ROM am using a2sd doesn't work since i keep getting Low on internal storage.
Also, I cant make gold card since i cant put new sd card in phone. The phone wont boot up after it get stuck at "why so serious."
hi try to flash different recovery and format (not wipe) all partitions and flash it again... at the moment im using 4ext recovery:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1154221
or RMD recovery:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1137763
what hboot you using?
Does RcMixS boots if you are using ext3? If yes, stick with it. Ext4 is just faster than ext3, but you should not get any problems. RcMixS requires only an ext partition, not a special type.
Hboot-0.93.0001
Bravo PVT3 SHIP S-OFF

and yes RcMixs work fine with ext3 and that only ext that work with the recovery.
It is safe to flash new recovery?
It depdends. Are you S-OFF? If, then yes. If not, then no.
Bravo PVT3 SHIP S-OFF
It said it off so that mean it safe?
And if it is. How can i flash new recovery?
If you how what you do when using fastboot and check the md5 after downloading the recovery.img, I would say: Yes, it's save.
Flashing new recovery via fastboot is very easy:
1.) Download the recovery you want. In my opinion 4EXTRecovery and RMD Recovery are currently the best ones.
2.) After downloading, check the md5!
3.) Install adb on your computer. An installation can be found in my signature.
4.) Boot your phone into fastboot mode (Turn it off, press and hold back and power button a few seconds until a white screen with FASTBOOT in red highlighted letters appears).
5.) Connect your phone to your computer via USB (FASTBOOT should change to FASTBOOT USB).
6.) Open cmd in computer (I assume you are using windows) and enter
Code:
fastboot devices
The output should say
HT********** fastboot devices. The **** are placeholders for numbers. If you get this output, fastboot sees your phone.
7.) Now type
Code:
fastboot erase recovery
to delete the recovery.
8.) When finished, type
Code:
fastboot flash recovery C:\recovery.img
I assume the recovery image you want to flash is stored on partition C: and named recovery.img.
9.) You are done.
Thanks you so much. It worked. I got a another questions. It regard of updating radio. My current radio version is 4.08.00.09. It is important to update to latest version or am fine at current radio?
You only really need to update your radio if there are problems. So if you really need to update your radio, make sure your hboot has >40 mb on cache partition. Otherwise, it will fail and can cause big problems. But mostly nothings happens. So if you have a /cache partition with <40 mb, you have to flash radio via fastboot. A guide can be found here on xda.
Do you know how to check if hboot have more than 40 mb or less on cache partition?
There no problem right now. I just want to know just in case later in future something wrong, and i know what to do.
And thank you very much for helping out.
Download quick system info pro from market.
SwiftKeyed from dGB using Transparent XDA App
One last question. Sorry for so many questions.
Do you know how make goldcard? I tried to make one following instructions on web but it said i need put spare SD card in phone and boot up but the thing is the current rom am using. Which is RCmix 2.0 it need sd ext to boot up or phone will get stuck at S-OFF screen.
Creating a goldcard is very easy:
http://android.modaco.com/topic/308798-pc-application-goldcardtool/
Put the microSD card in your device and boot it.
That part i got stuck at. The thing is went i put a new sd card in phone and boot up. It wont boot into the phone just get stuck at the splash screen. Like i said before. I believe the rom am currently using (RCmix 2.0) need sd-ext to run.
Overread that, my bad. You are right, RcMixS needs ext partition to boot up. Configure your sd card appropriate.
What do you mean configure my sd card? You mean to make my spare sd fat 32 and ext 3 but dont i need copy the content from ext 3 on my other sd card to the spare one?
Configure=partition. I thought you were not be able to start the rom? So there won't be any data on sd-ext because this partition is only for apps. All other content have to be copied to FAT32 partition.
Ok ill try that then. Does it matter if there contents and ext 3 partition in sd card while make a goldcard?
Partitioning a card will break gold as it rewrites the boot of the card, where the goldcard.img is. Although I haven't tried it myself, I believe creating a gold card after partitioning should be fine.
Well that what i mean partition so phone boot up and create the phone. Can i also make one using Sd card reader to make goldcard rather than put sd card in phone and make it there?

HTC Desire Reboot Loop

Currently Using Miui xj 2.3.2
Phone reboot loop.
Phone was working fine for 4-5 months. The reboot start to occurs yesterday when battery die. When turn on after its goes to reboot loop.
Try To Fix the Problem:
Wipes and reinstall.
Try Different Roms.
Took Sim,SD, and Battery out.
How is SD card partitionend and which version do you use? Please also provide the information from hboot.
HBoot - 0.93.001
Bravo PVT3 S-off
Radio= 5.17.05.08
Partition= 1Gb of EXT4, Rest Fat32 (8Gb)
Work fine before.
Started to reboot loop so decided to re wiped and flash again and also tried different rom. No luck.
Could be a corrupted sd card or at least the EXT part of it. What roms did you try? Did you try cyanogenmod? It doesn't need EXT partition to boot so you can try to flash that if you haven't.

Wich software did you use to partition SD card? What's your current recovery?
Can you access recovery?
This sounds like a corrupt filesystem/partition on sdcard.
- Just try to watch the logs via "adb logcat".
- re-partition your sdcard, or try rebuilding filesystem.
I tried "cyanogenmod" it's working fine. Lasted over 24 hours without reboot. I guess it something do with SD Card.
Guess i will try to re-partition the SD card or use new SD card i have at home.
BTW, what you mean by "try rebuilding filesystem."
I currently using 4EXT Recovery R5.
Edit:
Partition New SD Card (8GB)using G parted.
Fat32 - Rest
Ext4 -1GB
Then flashed Miui xJ a2sd 2.3.2. Still giving me boot loop. Boot to the lockscreen but it reboot after.
I recommend to re-partition your SD card. BUT ONLY WITH 4EXT Recvovery or GParted. Otherwise your partitons might not get correctly aligned.

Next question would be is if you gparted it properly.
via xda app
Pretty Sure I did.
First:
Primary
Fat32
Free Space: 1024MB
Second:
Primary
EXT4
1024MB
Applied at the end.
I also check the partition alignment using the 4ext recovery and it said it was fine.
Anyone know the problem or solution?
Tried if re-download of the rom helps? Otherwise, I would say it's a faulty SD card (but not sure about it).
then that would mean he has 2 faulty sd cards? the 8gb was a new one right?
