Hello,
Ive been trying to reset my mytough 3g slide back to complete stock. The screen and hard keys are non-responsive most of the time so its time to send it in for warranty. Now here's the problem,
Ive spent abo
ut 5 hours now and nothing works. whenever I hold power and volume down it still sends me to the bootloader with the skateboaring android. I have followed this method:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=946435
Which in short is putting the ESPRIMG.zip file and the process finishes off completely.
I don't remember how its supposed to look when you hold the power and volume down.
Thank you,

Hey all, need some help here.
short story - can't power up my device, since power botton stopped working.
anyonw knows a way to turn on the device otherwise?
(tried reset by reset button, plug to pc, to charger..)
longer story- yesterday i realized i can hear only on speaker phone, so i thought it is a bug and tried to reset the device (soft) and realized the power button isn't working as well, which increased my suspicion of a bug, and smart enough i just unplugged the battery and since then can't turn it back on..
thanks
I have same problem several times, and I have no idea why these happen, any ideas?
When its happen, I try call from another phone to my, and nothing happen phone not ring, but I heard normal sound from calling phone.
I would see if I could get the phone to hard reset. I know you need to push the power button but it may work for this purpose just not tell the software to turn back on.
Hard Reset:
With phone off push and hold the send and end buttons while pushing the power button. Follow screen instructions.
If you cant then you will have to return it I am guessing.
Nothing
nope, i tried also to hard reset but nothing works, as time goes i get the feeling that the phone is ok but the power button is the one breaked.
i guess i have to take it to a lab sometime this week.
thanks anyways
Any problems with the Desire anyone?
Got mine last night, put my SIM in and charged it for four hours, turned it on and can't get to do anything with it.
I'm on T-Mobile and get a pink circle solid pink trailing off (I,m guessing this maybe chases itself around like the busy cursor in Vista) then it shows the htc splash screen, white background with htc in the middle in green letters, this stays a second then goes off for then the splash screen again for a second then off for two etc., you get the picture. That's all it does, will not turn off you have to take the back off and remove the battery, tried rebooting several times and always the same. I put it back on charge overnight and tried it again this morning and the same, left it on for about twenty minutes to see if it should do this for a while and the phone and screen get quite warm.
Well hacked off!! Can't even take it back 'cos it's Easter Sunday and everywhere is shut!!!
Anyone had similar experiences?
As I can't reset via the phone software I did the phone button one, see below, still with no improvement. Mine is going back tomorrow.
Performing a factory reset using phone buttons
If you cannot turn on your phone or access the phone settings, you can still perform a factory reset by using the buttons on the phone.
With the phone turned off, press and hold the VOLUME DOWN button, and then briefly press the POWER button.
Wait for the screen with the three Android images to appear, and then release the VOLUME DOWN button..
Press VOLUME DOWN to select CLEAR STORAGE, and then press POWER.
Press VOLUME UP to start the factory reset.
Cheers.
wow seems odd, usually if ts defective it wouldn't show you the boot screen even. but this looks like a software glitch, somehow, .. but again, if its software than you shouldnt be the only one experiencing that
thanx for sharing, .. , hope you can get a replacement ASAP
Other users seem to be experiencing the same problem, I've had a look on the T-Mobile forums and it's reported there.
Sorted, swiftly replaced this morning, this phone is awesome!
After devunlocking last night, now my phone is messed up
The problem is the back, windows and search button no longer work, the portion of the screen that they take up is now like an extension of thescreen it just selects stuff as if it were at the bottom of the screen. Any help to reset all the files in root to factory, I tried to hard reset and soft reset.
Maybe I screwed up the registry or some files. Thanks for any help
try factory reset. hold camera + volume down + power. when phone vibrate release power button while holding the other 2 buttons. should prompt you to reset your phone. hope that works
Thx
I tried that but it enters USB Host mode, I also tried holding down up and down volume and power button to reset which resets it but doesn'tfixmy problem. it's acting like the part of the screen where the windows, search and back button are are now part of the regular screen and those 3 buttons no longer do anything.
This sounds rather like a hardware error. Your calibration of the touchscreen is messed up. I suggest you send it in. You still should have warranty?!
Btw. I don't think this has a connection to unlocking the phone!
If the phone hasn't been tampered with physically, it should be enough to just sync it without re-unlocking it, and it should be locked again.
Thx
I got a new one on the way. I didn't delete any files or regedit a bunch of stuff just a standard dev unlock and it started acting squirrly.
The power button on my S3 (SGH-i747) is pretty messed up. When i'm not touching it, it decides to register a press and completely messes up everything im doing on the phone. It has such frequent reboots that i can barely boot into recovery. The only way i can actually boot is by holding the phone horizontally with the power button facing down. Is there any fix to this? I'm on CM10.1.0 so would flashing back to stock decrease the sensitivity of this button? Or is it necessary to fix at the shop?
Also i have a cracked screen, so im not sure it would be accepted under the warranty even if it's unrooted.

Hardware failure, repair it or get a new phone
nothing you can do, the flex cable that connect's the button to the board is either busted or shorted

I'm having the same issue.
There's absolutely nothing I can do? I thought maybe if I'd open up the device and tinker with it... maybe I can get it working.

Yes this is quite an annoying problem. If you're having the same problem, are you able to boot into download mode? I can't for some reason.

Something like this you don't want to boot into download mode. What if it resets while you're pushing a file? then your whole phone will be messed up.
I got mine to boot. My method is a bit unorthodox though.... i kept pressing the power button throughout the boot process up until the lock screen. Once it finally loads... i flicked the power button a few times really hard.... it seems to stay in the position but remains extremely sensitive.. as in, i dont even have to press it to turn off the screen.
sucks man... i think this is happening to a lot of power users. I'm literally one week past my warranty.

Yeah i didnt want anything to happen while anything is installing etc. I somehow got into recovery, but it shut down within a second. (thankfully the first option in cwm is reboot, so that saved me). I can't return for warranty because I'm rooted on CM10.1.0, which was why i wanted to attempt unrooting (but that seems impossible at the moment).

That thread seems to be the solution to our problem, but i feel that if i open it up, something worse will happen. Right now, the phone boots up fine when held horizontally (but shuts down ~2min later) and i can easily backup my data.
One strange thing that i've noticed with this problem that maybe isn't right. Normally , do you have to hold down the power button to shut it off? I always used to think that a power menu would show, THEN you could select shut down, but here, it just shuts down. The power menu flashes sometimes, but shuts down anyway. This may also have me believe that something other than the power button is the problem.

if you hold the power button for 5 seconds or more , it will skip that power menu and reboot. So this still sounds like power button to me.
thanks for the link, been searching everywhere... so fckin hard to search all the S3 threads on XDA. They need to consolidate

Were you able to fix your problem with the fix in that link? I seem to be having the same problem as you.
No, I ended up buying a new phone (I was going to upgrade anyway). I took out the power button, but that wasn't the problem. In a way, it was the button under the button that was sensitive. I would have to take out the motherboard to see the exact problem.

Hello there, I was installing Recovery using this, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1746682, I only went up to the first part of unrooting the phone where it asks me to connect my and install te recovery, my phone after the root did not want to turn on. I tried using the Volume +/- along with the home key, nothing, it just vibrates and nothing. I tried pulling out the battery and the same thing happened, no matter what I did, it vibrates and won't turn on. Also when I hook it up to the charger and try turning on it vibrates and it keeps vibrating in loops, around 2-3 sec apart. What is wrong with my phone? Please don't tell me it's a brick, I just got it yesterday ;p

I think this kit is honestly the easiest way to brick your phone. There are simply too many options, most of them have no real use for this phone, and the free version never gets updated. Honestly think it's a bad move for people who are new to the game.
To get in download mode:
Start with the phone off.
Press and hold the home button and volume down button.
Press the power button until the phone vibrates.
Release the power button.
To get in recovery mode.
Start with the phone off.
Press and hold the home button and volume up button.
Press the power button until the phone vibrates.
Release the power button.
Release the volume up and home button when the blue text appears in the top left corner of the screen.
If these won't work, you are bricked. Time for JTAG.
I agree 100%. That kit seemed pretty helpful for some when this was still pretty new, but recently it seems there are more reports of failures (or worse) than successes. When you get this fixed I suggest reading all the stickies and then take it from there.
Good luck
