what is this? I am assuming you are rooted, because you said you have CWM 3. First you need to get to CWM with purple writing. To get that you download it and flash from your CWM. Then pick a ROM you want to try (there are many in the dev section) and download it. Then boot to CWM purple, wipe, flash.
If you did the 1 click to root, then you dont have to do 1 click anymore.

actually you can have cwm and not be rooted.
anyhow, best rom in stabability speed battery and looks is regeneration 1.1.1 with the pastel blue theme.. follow the instructions on regneration clearly and make sure your sd card is ext 4 partitoned..
first partition your sd card, then go onto the regeneration page and follow the instructions clearly about odining, wiping 3x, then flashing the rom, then once your rom is booted, go to recovery and flash the pastel theme.
you may wanna google TallMin pastel blue launcher pro icons and use them with launcher pro. goes along well

I have Midnight ROM v4.0 on my sd card and was wondering if all I have to do now is boot into CW3 and flash the rom. I've tried installing roms before and failing so I'm asking for help now.
Thanks in advance.
You got the hard part done.
Turn off device
3finger into CM3...toggle down to install zip from sd.. push camera button for yes then choose zip from sd...push camera button for yes select midnight rom push camera button for yes and install. Takes along time to install and boot the first time dont freak and make sure you read midnights install instructions
If you want the full rom, be sure to install the second .zip in the midNIGHT extras folder on your sd card.

Oh really. good to know. I also sere there is a v4.1. Do I have to install that as well?
yes you need to flash 4.1 after 4.0 and also flash files you want from midnight extras folder. Maybe you can try the syndicate rom frozen loaded edition for your first rom its a one shot flash, very simple.
I will have to check out out. From what I've read and seen midnight rom is the one I want to use though.
Thanks for all the help !

midNight is totally worth an extra few zip flashes!!
So I flashed both 4.0 and 4.1 and now I'm getting an error that is force closing everything. What now?
Edit:
I believe this is the part where I go and flash in the extras to get stuff working. am I right?

Hmmm. So I got a phone call today from my step grandparents today and ignored it. Then for some reason my phone restarted itself 2 or 3 times. Did I forget to install something?
Possibly, what did you install from the extras folder? I just do the standard edition update and delete what I don't want. That will give you everything but sprint bloat.

I didn't install much. I ended up Flashing the new Syndicate ROM and am loving it as well. Midnight ROM looks way better but Syndicate's Frozen ROM makes my phone feel way quicker. I'm torn as to which one I want to use.
Use what you feel is best. I have been using the midnight roms for a while and haven't had any issues.

Rooted Epic 4g EC05 Stock rom
You have to provide more information so we can help you out. What ROM are you installing? What is your current recovery? Are you using the purp 3.1.0.1? Did you wipe System/data, cache partition, and Dalvik Cache 3x? We can get you straightened out. Just give some more details.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA Premium App
all ROM's do it but im trying to convert over to ext4 and run syndicate ROM . Yes i have wiped data/factory restore and flushed dalvik 3x every time... cwm recovery v2.5.1.0
you cant install srf 1.2 on that recovery.. you need to upgrade to 3.1.0.1, cwm2x does not support ext4
You need to update clockwork to 3.1.0.1. You're using an outdated recovery.

Rom manager doesn't really work for epic. You have to turn off your phone and then hold camera, vol down and power to get into your recovery. Check qbking's videos. They will make a lot of sense. You may want to odin your phone and restart. I'm not sure how much craziness you may have started. Backup major stuff with Titanium and everything will pretty much be normal without major loss.
Wow, its been a while since I was that far back on recovery. Let me check TheRoot's link...EDIT..yup TheRoot's link has a flashable version of the 3.1.0.1 recovery that will get you right where you want to be to flash all of the current batch of ROMs. PM me if you get stuck and I will go step by step

After you finish, download ACS updater and it'll give you the goodness you were looking for in Rom Manager. There's also a support thread in Apps.

[Q] new rom/kernel

Hey guys, I just rooted my phone a few hours ago from the tutorial here on this site for my android 2.3.3 hboot 2.16....well i finally got to root it and got really excited. THe main 2 reasons i rooted were for wifi tethering and terrible battery life. Bought an extended battery before but didnt help much.
Anyway i think i flashed it lol with superuser? ( i backed up files with rom manager and myrombackup) I just downloaded set cpu with the following settings
enabled check notifications check
screen off priority 100 245 max 245 min performance
charging full priority 50 998 max 245 min ondemand
battery<75 priority 50 806 max 245 min ondemand
So my question is, are these good settings? how much better do you think my battery life will be with these settings?
oh and do roms and kernels come in like the same zip file? where i flash them together? and which do you guys think is best for battery life, but similar to the evo stock rom? i dont wanna change my phone too much, i like it, just didnt like the battery life...sorry if this question is redundant, but most of the threads i found were really old so i didnt wanna put in an old rom or kernel if i dont have to.... THANK u guys so much before hand.
If you want to stay stock there are a few roms in the development forum that are stock with bloat removed and minimal mods. You might check some of those out.
One example is: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1249615
The next step would be a ROM that is ported to the Evo but with a stock look. I am running MikG which I think is one of the best.
A ROM will always come with a kernel that will be flashed with it. You can always flash a different kernel over it later. Freedom is a good kernel (see my sig for a link).
Sent from my PC36100
If your looking for a stock rooted ROM with good battery life you might want to try a froyo ROM with an sbc kernel you will get almost 2 times more out of your battery and its the same old sense 1.0 so you won't even notice a difference.

Battery is OK like any gb ROM and bloat is what we call any apps that come from our carrier that you don't want or need on the ROM like stocks ,nova , sprint TV etc..
Edit: you can remove apps "bloat" with any app that will let you like titanium backup I use antek app its free on the market.

Yeah the evo got stuck with sense 1.0 even with the gb update .
If what ever ROM you flash works for you you can keep it forever if you like you will need to try out a few ROMs they all work different on each evo there are a few different types if evos .
What might work good for me might not for you.

What recovery are you using ?
I recommend amon ra 2.3 if your not already .
If you already backed up your ROM from recovery "nandroid backup" then you don't need to do it again its just in case something goes wrong so you can go back to it.
Yes download the ROM from here and the kernel then wipe everything except your sd card and battery stats "you can wipe your battery stats if your battery is at a 100%" then flash the ROM and then the kernel.
If you get any fc's after first boot fix permissions if that doesn't work go back into recovery and wipe cache and dalvik cache and reboot that will fix most problems.
Hope that helps you out.

wow, you're super helpful
i actually used the superuser backup- from this thread- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1218386
what's the difference between that and amon ra 2.3?
also i did a backup from the recovery and also from rommanager.
and finally, lets say i get the rom you told me about, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=793471 - (warm twopoint) it says on that thread,
As this ROM now uses the latest official HTC Kernel (#15) you MUST update your Radio/Wimax. I recommend Calkulin's combo update which is available here or via direct download here.
Installation Instructions:
Download Rom and Radio/Wimax updates and place in the root of SDCard.[/B]
umm does the kernel come in the same file as the rom that i download? and where do I get the radio/wimax updates and what do I do with them? do i flash them too and when?
(should I get a separate kernel for better battery life? some people commented that the battery life wasn't great with this rom, so should i use a different kernel?)

Superuser is an app the let you allow root to apps that need it.
You want to make a backup from recovery its called a nandroid backup I think you have clock work mod recovery you might want to switch to amon ra 2.3 you can get the link from my sig.
When you make a backup make sure to backup your wimax keys I think cwm does it on its own in ra2.3 you can pick and choose what you want to backup.
I'm not sure what radios your on but you should be good if you had 2.3 on your phone when you rooted it.
The ROM comes with a kernel but its the stock kernel give me a minute and I'll post a link to the ones that work with it.

For the recovery zip make sure its on the root of your sd not in any folder then boot to your bootloader not recovery you can download an app called quick boot to do that or just turn your phone off then hold down volume and power when it comes to the bootloader it will automatically scan for the update just hit volume up to except it then you can reboot the phone or go to recovery.

No you don't have to flash it then I just forgot about rm and flashing it that way I don't use rm anymore only to fix permission.
Now when you go to recovery to make a backup go under backup/restore/ nand backup and select what you want to backup leave the ones that are checked then check android secure ,sdext if your sd is partitioned , and wimax I believe thats all I backup .
You don't need to backup recovery or cache .
You should also make a backup of just your wimax keys that way if you lose them in a flash you can restore just that and not have to restore a whole backup.

Thank you so much! I did it both ways anyway lol, I'm currently doing a nandroid backup for everything, then doing it juts for wimax. THen ill copy them to my computer and flash drive just incase.
Ok, so i think i decided, I'm gonna get the [ROM] Myn’s Warm TwoPointTwo - [RLS 5 - 01/07/2011] - and for the kernel im gonna flash, 4.3.4-cfs-havs-more-sbc (More Aggressive HAVS) (can u make sure that's the one you have? and does it have at least 12 hours of moderate use? i text a lot, thats about it..)
ok now can you tell me if I have the steps right please?
- I'm going to download the rom Download Warm TwoPointTwo RLS 5 (Mirror 1) and paste it onto the root of my sd card.
- Then I'm going to download the kernel 4.3.4-cfs-havs-more-sbc (More Aggressive HAVS)- and paste it to the root of my sd card.
- Then, I use quick boot to go into recovery, then I wipe what I have to wipe/factory reset, then I flash the rom....
- THen I dont have to wipe again, and i just flash the kernel...THen, I can use myrombackup to get all my apps and the information in the apps back...
Should i use set cpu with this rom and kernel? and is thiss correct? lol- I'm really excited btw thank u sooo much---and oh the kernel i have on my phone right now is kernel version- 2.6.35.10...

Use mybackup root to backup apps and data then use it to restore them.
Yes it sounds like you got it wipe everything except your sd card, battery stats and screen rotation I'll post a like to a super wipe I use that you can flash to make sure you wipe everything as well.
Then flash the ROM then the kernel then reboot.
If you get any force closes go back into recovery and wipe cache and dalvik cache then under other run fix uid package mismatch or what ever its called that will fix permissions from recovery.
http://www.4shared.com/file/p6mi6ogM/VR_SUPERWIPE.html
Flash this before you flash the ROM it will wipe everything for you do the wipes on your own as well.
After your all done you should download the app battery calibration and calibrate your battery to get more battery life it wipes you battery stats you can do it from recovery but you should just use the app it will tell you what to do.

ACS recovery vs: CWM 3.1.0.1 purple

which is better? I know that ACS is a beta, and that CWM is the 'industry standard'. I just want to know if I should switch to the new ACS or not. And why? Thanks.
There's just a couple of perks with acs. Use acs for a few days, if you like the shortcuts, keep it. If you don't, then go back to cwm. I personally use either, whichever's odin tar is nearest
sent from my cm7-ified epic
I've had ACS's 1.0.0.5 on my phone for about a week now, and I could go either way. The quick rom/kernel install wipe shortcuts are nice, but not essential for me, the rest is pretty much the same so far.

Switch to ACS. One button Wiping (No more 3x each of dalvik, data, and cache wiping)
Also, it's based off a newer clockwork mod. It is faster for me. Also, no more having to scroll thru a bunch of no buttons to get to everything (in cwm, it has like 6 no buttons and 1 yes button for everything).
Finally, there's also
Power off from menu
Download Mode from menu
Toggle Confirmations from menu
No more Update.zip in the menu
Cleaned up all the menus
Pre-Theme Wipe in the Flash menu (Wipes Cache and Dalvik)
Pre-Rom Wipe in the Flash menu(Wipes System,Data, and Cache)
Cleaned up all the menus
New color scheme (ACS Colors)
Various under the hood speed and stability enhancements
Ability to use Tar format for Nandroid backups by adding a line to the build.prop
acs is easier to use, but if you want to use the rom manger, to manage your roms, then you have to use cwm, cuz the acs one dont work with rom manger.

which is better? I know that ACS is a beta, and that CWM is the 'industry standard'. I just want to know if I should switch to the new ACS or not. And why? Thanks.

Acs is cwm4... or at least based off it. IMHO, go to acs and don't go back. It does more, and does it better, and faster.

The biggest perk to acs is the wipe options for me. I cant seem to stay with one rom for to long as I keep looking for the next best thing.

How do you install? Can I flash it right over CWM? Don't I clear caches? Or do I Odin?

Yeah just flash the zip. No odin reqd.

Done and done. Just in time for a GB flash!

Also, no more having to scroll thru a bunch of no buttons to get to everything (in cwm, it has like 6 no buttons and 1 yes button for everything).

In 3.1.0.1 or purple there is only one no and one yes not 6? I think the six was 2.5 or orange.
I have used CWM since I started rooting android, I think I will give ACS a shot. Seems so much more useful, especially with EI22 roms coming down the chute soon.
Will ACSRecovery1.0.0.5.zip flash from stock recovery? If not how do you install it on a stock EI22? Thanks!

I'd almost say it's bad flash/download and use of wifi hotspot hack.

Can you give a little more information about your situation please? Did you update from an earlier version recently? Did you flash the full ROM over another ROM? Did you make sure to wipe the phone before flashing?
The more we know can possibly help lead to a quicker resolution.
dont really know to much about this stuff im a newbie by i follow directions to the T.. I installed to sd card rebooted in custom recovery and did a calks wipe and installed... Also i made sure it was on a gb rom before anything... 3.2.6 to be exact.. So did i do something wrong or am i missing something...? Open to any opinions... I really wanna learn how to navigate through these processes..

You don't have to be on a GB ROM to flash it, just need GB recovery or one of the format files (Calkulin or Rujelus) to flash for wipe before installing the ROM.
Did you have custom recovery installed?
Did you make sure to grab the full ROM and not just the update?
Did you download directly to your phone or to the computer? If you downloaded to phone then I'd suggest download again but to the computer and then copy to your sd card. Don't re-use the download you already tried to flash, it may have been borked in the downloading process.
(also, GB is 2.3.6, Honeycomb is 3.x)

I would make a backup with CWM and then do a full clean install and see if that helps. If it doesn't help you can always revert back to your backup.
freeze
ive experienced same issue every now and then primarily after reboot it will hang / freeze ect so i just go into adw settings and restart ADW works everytime if your on another launcher try to restart that launcher...

Very strange, try flashing the 1.7 kernel and flashing a different modem and see If that helps

Go into recovery and clear all caches and fix permissions, and go From there.

I have experience some of the same issues on 2 different E4GT. I like the the rom but random boots force me back to stock. The most recent phone does not have the EMMC bug in it so I triedd a complete wipe, but the rom would work great for about a day then have random reboots again and sometime blank screens.
