First of all, let me just say that the Dinc 1 is the best phone I have ever used. I loved everything about it. Well, to make a long story short, it fell off my lap and the screen shattered Filed a claim online through Asurion, and the inc 1 was out of stock, so they are overnighting me an incredible 2.
Did I do well in this situation???
I am kinda bummed because I have 2 extended batteries for the inc 1, and some sweet cases. None of this stuff will work with the inc 2...
And as far as root/roms go, the inc 1 is a marvelous device to hack, but hows the inc 2 coming along???
I would like to hear your opinions on this one guys. Will I love my new and improved incredible, or will I miss the original...
What do you think???
Well i just picked up a Dinc2 a few days ago, Had it rooted in about an hour and had CM7 on it by the end of the day!
Best Android device ive ever had! you will love it 10x more then your dinc1!
But it is a bummer about the cases/battery's =[

I guess Ebay is my friend in this situation
If it comes with 2.3.3 then the device can't be rooted. If it comes with Froyo it can.

I had the DInc and you will not be disappointed with the DInc2. The only problem is that if the device you get has 2.3.3 on it, you cannot root (yet). I'm sure the devs will figure out a way but for now you can only root if you're running Froyo. If it makes you feel any better, I bought mine on Friday and it came with Froyo. Rooted and running MIUI now!!! It's amazing.

Not quite true. You can root it with an XTC Clip, it just may cost you about 40 or 50 bucks on ebay, so yes, ebay is your friend in this situation
Personally, the clip is well worth the extra cash if you need it. The MIUI official ROM on this device is awesome, and we're only getting more and better ROMS, especially as more devs and hackers switch from the Inc1 to the Inc2 just like you did.
Well yeah

Well you can always root the phone, and then install CM7 for the stock Android feel, or there are a ton of Sense based ROMs out there too. So you can always flash another ROM to try things out.
Well i had HTC Hero and tried rom on droid 1 with sense ui . I like it but i dont know but i like droid incredible, because of the specs.
I just moved from the Droid 1 to the Inc a few days ago. The difference is amazing. This phone is so much more responsive. It just feels snappy. I'm using CM7 and incredikernel fwiw.
Same.. from d1 to incredible and... Well... It's incredible. So much better and pretty much just as hackable

I came from a og Droid and I could never go back. The dinc is so smooth and snappy, even compared to an overclocked Droid. There really isn't a reason to not do it unless you absolutely despise the virtual keyboard

Yeah the droid incredible has alot of rom options and the dev community is very helpful, coming from the OG Droid id definetly say go for it. Even if you didnt root or anything its still a great phone, and it *should* Be getting gingerbread soon, so thats a plus.
the only thing ths phone lacks, is 4G. other than that, i have no complaints. and when my 2 years is up, if there isn't something out there that just completely wow's me, i'll keep using it. i like it THAT much. i'd buy another..they are getting cheaper, and so are the accessories. i bought a white battery cover on amazon for 6 bucks shipped. bought another battery for 6 bucks shipped. i mean, you can't go wrong. rooting it is a cinch, and the development is as progressive as ever...
DINC FTW. I went from an Eris to the Incredible. The screen on the DINC is just beautiful, whether AMOLED or SLCD. With prices dropping on both new and used DINCs (look on CraigsList), I'd definitely pick one up!
I agree, you cant go wrong with the incredible.
The droid incredible is pretty much at the end of its product cycle, I would be looking at something newer like the charge. I wish I could upgrade before verizon implements its new teared data plans. Problem is its $220 to get out of my contract and $200 to get a new plan and phone. Looks like I'm going to have to stay with my incredible as long as possible to stay with my unlimited plan.
you can keep your unlimited data after July 7th as long you already had a smartphone on that line. In fact, if you don't downgrade, as of now anyway, Verizon said you can stay on unlimited data as long as you keep gettin smartphones. If you don't have a smartphone right now, ask around if anyone has a BB or an Android phone you can activate prior to july 7th so that unlimited data is an option

I think droid 1 is good phone I just need 1ghz phone without the overclocking.I'm not in love with 4g as read it drain to much battery on thunderbolt and charger. I dislike samsung I hack my galaxy it got bricked so I won't be going to them again unless it moto or htc.
The droid inc is still the phone to beat in my mind. I can load up 7-8 gbs of music, put it on party shuffle in the car, and I'm set for days. Also the phones indestructible. I work on cars for part of my living, and I drop it with greasy hands, get all kinds of harsh stuff all over the phone and the only wear it shows is from my old case. Lol

I am in a pickle..
On one hand, I have always loved HTC phones. I had the verizon VX6800 when it came out and love it for a long time. Then switched to some crap phone when I broke it.
When Motorola released the Droid, i paid for it out right. Loved it! treated that thing like gold. When they released the Droid 2, i was able to get it from Best Buy for free with a upgrade. I grabbed it, was able to sell my mint condition OG Droid too.
The Droid 2, I wasn't so impressed with. Yes it was just like the droid, but blur and the quality just wasn't there like the OG droid. Just a few weeks ago, I got Verizon to replace it for me with the Droid Incredible 2.
Back to HTC, I have to say im impressed. the lack of the Qwerty keyboard does put a cramp in my style that I have been used to for the past 2 years but nothing swype didn't fix.
So now, I see the droid 3 coming out in like a week. I could still return the Droid I2 for it. But I am unsure, with the DI2 getting Gingerbread soon and how well built the phone is. Also my bad run with the droid 2...
Any thoughts on what to do?

Honestly I'm willing to wait on the dual core...how much RAM does the d3 have? I mean the x2 is awesome but is bottlenecked by its RAM. This thing multi tasks awesomely because of its RAM. And the battery life can't be beat. I'm a heavy user and with the slightly larger battery I got 20 hours today with the screen on time of almost 5 hours...and I live in the middle of no where so I have cell service only half the time.

I never thought a MOTO phone would be the more open choice, but if you want to root don't go with the inc2. It is one of the most locked down phones ever released. The only known stable root method costs a costs over a 100 dollars. There are some who claim they have a software root, but in my professional opinion a stable version of it will never be released. If you want to lock yourself into a 2 year contract on what is probably an empty promise, that is your choice, but I wouldn't.
Now if you don't care about root, the inc2 is a great phone.

As it stands, a quick browse of this users posting history should reveal just how worthless his posts are. (Edit: It seems the majority of his posts have been removed by moderators. Understandable, it's just too bad most of the evidence of his stupidity has been deleted.)
As for the phones, my preference would be the Dinc2 because I don't need a QWERTY, but if that's your thing then the Droid 3 might be for you. If I were you I'd spend some time in the store playing with the D3 to determine if you prefer the "feel".
I would guess you'd be disappointed if you switched. I've rooted tons of phones, the Inc2 is by far the best android device i've touched to date. My phone turns circles around a DX2 with it's dual core.
Give swiftkey a try for a keyboard if you're coming from a physical one, it's awesome.

This. Of all the phones in my possession at the moment, the only one I truly dislike is the D2G. Its just awful. Having owned a Droid X and Droid 1, the only way Motorola could win me back is if they just ditched blur entirely and made a quality, open phone like the Droid 1 was. If people keep buying the garbage they produce, nothing will ever change.
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App
I'd urge caution for the D3. Head into the store and check it out first. It uses the same PenTile qHD display which some people (myself included) think is painfully grainy looking. I won't even pull a DX2 off the shelf unless people specifically ask for it because I'm so embarrassed to show them the display if they're coming from a OG Droid or something with a much better looking display. If I hold a DX2 up next to a Samsung Charge, it's glaringly obvious what the difference between Super AMOLED+ and qHD is. qHD does not fare well in that comparison.

well, I had the original incredible and even though it was a struggle with my big hands, it was still a great phone. I had 30 days to bring it back through best buy and in the last week the droid charge & incredible 2 were supposed to come out. originally I was thinking the charge, but then it got delayed so I just got the incredible 2. at first I was a bit bummed about the no 4G thing but other then that this has been a pretty solid phone.
Is the EVO still up to spec for current applications?
Are you happy with your EVO still?
Is rooting the device straightforward? Do I have to look out for a specific software version?
I would just renew my two year and pick up a new android phone but I want to hold out for the next wave of devices. Hoping the samsung galaxy 2 ends up on sprint. The EVO I am picking up is $180 dollars, clean ESN and in perfect condition.

Apparently he has a 2.2 also but it not in as good of a condition. Is there hope there will be a hack for 2.3.3 any time soon.
Prob within the next two weeks. Theres atleast 3 dev teams working on Evo, 3D, Sensation. Suppose to be a bootloader exploit that works on all or most gb devices.
I actually recomend finding one used, if you can. Not only for hoping to find one with 2.2 for rooting, but as there are Lots of amazing sets coming out right now, all year long, so you won't have to be locked into contract with "old tech". That being said, I love love love my EVO, and holding off on "upgrading" until something I really truly want comes along.
The EVO is still an amazing phone, no doubt about it.
You can find them for $150-$200 in great shape if you shop wisely.

I'm not sure how easy it is to replace a speaker in the back, but I'm selling one on ebay that the only thing wrong is the speaker. Everything else works great. It has Gingerbread on it, but it's 2.3.4 (CyanogenMod) with an Engineering bootloader and ClockworksMod recovery. I just don't have time to fix the speaker, but if you do, it will probably be a decent deal.

I got mine free at radio shack today. now my galaxy s 4g is on craigslist that things a slow brick compared to the evo. I should of got it sooner unrootable or not. They will find a way soon
If you buy a used phone, add the insurance for the first month or two.
My brother bought me a used evo and the power button broke...took it to the sprint store with insurance and they opened it up and tried to fix it, they couldn't so they gave me a brand new evo on the spot...came with 2.3 but oh well.
a 2.3 evo is better than a rooted hero(better specs, GB, bigger screen, angry birds XD)
+1 for getting a good used one with 2.2 on it. Can check the XDA marketplace for one maybe if Craigslist isn't producing any for you.
I ended up purchasing the one from craigslist even though its 2.3.3 . I'm hoping that there is a breakthrough sooner rather than later on 2.3.3 Evo S off. If I did not have my own projects to work on I would try my hand at it.

S-on here. Sadly.
So I shattered my screen,I assume its only the glass digitizer because aside from it being broken,it works.
What I'm wondering is,what has assurion been sending out as replacements? I'd rather not have to deal with that but it depends on the replacement status....
*edit* and if there sending out
Dincs what's the chance they have the update? Cause that would uh..be no bueno
I really love my inc and would rather not let go of it :/
That's a real bummer - I recently rooted mine and installed a custom rom - it's like having a new phone.
I called assurion and they confirmed that they are out of Dincs and offering the dinc2 as
a replacement so if I file insurance
that's what ill be getting so....
Try replacing the screen and if I screw up I get nothing or revert to stock and go for the dinc2?
Decisions decisions....
This seems like a total no-brainer to me. I'd ditch the dInc for the dInc2 without even thinking. I don't understand the odd obsession with this device.

Sadly, you're right. Functionality comes first and foremost to me though, and the dInc2 is simply better and more functional. The RUU it shipped with was also bulletproof. Now it's already got GB. Gimme a debloated ROM, a custom kernel, and Rosie settings and I'm plenty happy enough.

Well Tiny got a custom overclockable kernel without the source by using Evo parts, so he is a freaking beast and that combined with Nils sense 3.0 rom, with smartass and OC to 1. 075 it is the smoothest rock solid rom I've ever run. I wouldn't mind getting the Dinc 2 as a replacement or something, but I wouldn't use my two year upgrade on it.

eBay
eBay is flooded with the front housing with the digitizer already in it for around $26 bucks and it's a really easy fix. Send it to me and I'll do it for you for free if you think it's a little too involved. Plenty of videos out there on how to do it.
One of the main things that makes me want to keep this phone and not upgrade is the trackpad. Not a common feature on the newer phones and to me this phone still works just as well as all the newer phones.
Yep I dropped and shattered my digitalizer earlier this week, ordered parts (under $30 total) and took maybe 10 minutes to replace.
If you're going that route, get the housing. Having to scape out the glue then glue the screen on there is just a total mess. Amazon is probably your best choice for reliable parts.
The INC2 finally got root a couple weeks ago, development is still slow and lacking and the phone isn't that big of an upgrade despite what some people say.
Your choice, personally I would shoot for the INC2 to avoid hassle (and you still get custom ROM's like CM7, even though it's in a buggier phase)- but it comes down to how much you love your custom ROM and the INC.
I have a week to decide, gotta wait till next paycheck to make any kind of move anyways...
I do think that more roms will start popping up for the inc 2 though as
having s-off on it was but a dream earlier this summer(and then it got rooted GB taboot)
I would miss the general size and weight of the Inc because that was the first thing I noticed bout it. Also it would make a great backup phone....the dinc is turning into a classic basically

Not quite sure what you've been reading, but these are two completely different physical devices. You're not gonna be sticking a 4 inch SLCD into an Incredible anytime soon, nor swapping out SoC's.
If you mean swapping the ROM for something running Sense 2.1, that's easy. Just find any Sense 2.1 ROM and you'll basically be having the same experience, albeit slower, as a dInc2.

For that, your Inc would have to have a hardware failure or something and you'd have to be lucky enough for Asurion to be out of Inc 1's in your area. Then you'll probably pay a premium of like $100 or so to get an Inc 2.

Most likely, Verizon will just give you a refurbished Inc 1. Also, he was being sarcastic about putting a 4 inch screen in the Inc. Lol

Unless you bought the phone from Verizon, they have no obligation to honor the warranty that would usually cover hardware issues like a blown speaker, etc.

My friend got it through verzion... so... idk
By all means, see what they say. I just know what I've been told by Verizon, although they can choose to make an "exception" and help you out. Happened to me when I got a D2 from a friend with a faulty camera. They did end up replacing it, but made sure to let me know that since I didn't actually get the phone from them, they didn't "have" to help me.
It never hurts to try. Sometimes they'll throw you a bone and help you out, and other times they won't. It's all in the luck of the draw.

I'd love for them to be like oh yeah you don't need this or that but we will, any ways...
Good luck. Verizon is a bunch of bastards. I went through 4 Droid Eris' and they never did anything but send me another refurb, over and over. We got lucky tho, had one early upgrade and there was a Buy 1 get 1 on the Dinc. Then again I had heard of people breaking their Eris intentionally and Verizon swapped it for a Dinc on their first go....
So it all depends. If your phone is in good working condition, do you want to risk breaking it and possibly getting a phone in worse condition than your current one? Or do you just want to wait the 2 years for your contract to be up and get the latest hot phone?
A year from now the Inc 2 will be old like the Inc is now. Then you'll have the saaammeee dilemma my friend.

Referring to the blown speaker, I had one too, and replacing it is WAY easier than you'd think. Trust me, it's really easy. Please refer to my thread replacing speakers, just do a simple search, sorry, I'd link you, but I'm very tired.

Will deff check out
Yeah good luck getting that Inc replaced by VZW...unless that phone was purchase by your friend new within the past year.
I've read somewhere about people getting their Incs replaced with Inc2s if they received the OTA GB update and had issues. That's a different case though.
