Xperia Arc impressions - Xperia Arc Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys! I would like to known from you some impressions about the arc..i'm an x10 user and i love the arc but i know that its hardware is just a little bit outdated compared to new dualcore phone..anyway i saw that are available some kernel to overclock cpu up to 1.86 and many other features! So i would like to know if you think that is a good idea to switch to the arc or wait to buy another new phone??from x10 to arc is a big step or not?
Thanks a lot guys
Best regards
Francesco

I'd say just get one of the dual cores out there. Plus their RAM and internal memory are bigger than Arc. I myself is leaning towards htc sensation as my next fone and handover my Arc to my mrs. Although Arc is not so bad in normal usage like surf, chat, music n movie. It's just that it's becoming boring at least for me as there's no other ROM to try out at the moment considering most of the users are bootloader-unlocked. Cyanogen is under development though.

For day to day use it's great, but if you want to play the latest games in a few months and want the highest benchmark scores go and get something else.
Atm everything works smooth on it.

As I've said many a time, the Arc is the best single-core handset on the planet.
Whether that's enough for you is something you and only you can decide.

Thanks guys for your opinions..

I'm not sure about that, but I don't think so.
Otherwise there are lot of alternatives like MW600, LiveSound, etc.

it's really an upgrade from x10 to Arc S.
but you can't compare Arc S to device with dual core.
so far, my Arc S is smooth and no laggy.

Thank for reporting that!
I Thought That 1.4 Ghz had enough power to run a 1080P movie!

arc s laggy compare to galaxy i9000

hello :cyclops:
i have the arc s lt18i.
in the beginning i flash the official sony ics release and i compare it to the samsung galaxy s1 - i9000 with custom rom (run ics).
the result is that the galaxy s1 much faster and smoother then the arc s. all the menus are much faster and the youtube app much much smoother. - the arc s is laggy and dont smooth in youtube app when i move from comments section to "other videos" section, when i scrolling in the "comment" section or "other videios" section.
i think thatthe official rom is the problem so i flashed ics jj hybrid rom.
now the phone is fast but not like the samsung galaxy s1 :crying:
the ypuyube app is very lag when i play a clip and navigate in the "comments" section, which in galaxy s1 is smooth!
as much as i know the arc s have a 1.4ghz and better specs
so what is the problem? is the samsung galaxy s1 is really better then the arc s?
thanks! :good:

Did you flash any custom kernel ? Its pretty fast for me ..

i flashed 431 kernel with cwm.
a custom kernel really Influencing the speed?
when you scrolling in the the comments of a music video on youtube the scroll is not smooth? (while the music video is playing)
p.s can ypu give me a good kernel that support jj hybrid rom?
thanks man

ArcKnight Kernel
I tried the arcknight kernel but my phone was even slower and had problems with its signal, now I'm using the stock kernel with cwm and xperia ice bean ROM.

Usually the purpose of a kernel is to over/under clock so go ahead and try doing that

hmm.. so the galaxy s1 with the 1ghz is better then the arc s with 1.4ghz?
because i did not overclocked both of them and the galaxy s1 is much faster.
do you guys have the same lags in the youtube with the scrolling? (while the video playing)
thank you guys for your comment!
Dont Forget
Dont forget that your galaxy S is using a custom rom. Considering if it were on a stock ROM performance would be better on the arc S considering that it is on 4.0.4

what is the matter?
ok but i dont see differences at all in the arc s or the galaxy s1.. i mean the ics look and everything is exactly like the arc s jj hybrid ics.
everything is the same!!! like they both based on ics!!!
but the old galaxy s1 wins for sure

I'm not really sure what your getting at and also the way of using your device could matter. Considering benchmarks the arc S would win for sure whereas in day to day use like you say the galaxy s could be better

Same problem with my Xperia Arc (ICS) ..
I think Sony mess up with ICS firmware. The phone was great and game friendly with GB, with official ICS it's laggy and don't play many games. I'm with a locked bl based on the 431 firmware. I've tried some roms and finally stick with pureness 10 V6 supercharged. Games won't play, but the phone is more reponsive, with less launcher restart. But overall the phone is slower than my old Desire with CM7

Unlock your bootloader , flash a custom kernel , flash a custom ROM ... Then you will see how fast it can perform...
BTW the galaxy s is probably on a custom kernel which is overclocked , running a custom supercharged ROM...

I don't want to unlocked bootloader and lost warranty and drm right And i don't think that putting a custom kernel made such a difference. But why Sony can't simply release a good rom is beyond my understanding. Why with GB i have no problem to play Angry birds and Asphalt 6 and when i upgrade to ICS, i must sometime reboot to play Angry bird because of touchscreen problem and can't play Asphalt 6 because of lack of usable memory. Maybe it's Google fault too, with ICS to big for 2011 smartphone, or bad Sony rom, but the result is here, unhappy customer, who are think twice before buying a sony phone in the future

Yep ! Back to the future is probably the best solution, maybe i'm asking too much to Sony to hope a ICS as good as a GB They now concentrate on lauching too many new phones

How's it running?

Ok people I am thinking of getting the xperia arc S, and I just wanna know how good does it run cm10 or any other 4.1 build be it aokp or whatever else. Now I want your honest opinions please along with if the phone overheats with it or camera or whatever. Please.
Current phone: xperia x10.

Well it's pretty definite that arc s is a step up from x10. I can't say about custom roms (although I have Jelly sandwich and it's fast) but I can say that the camera is top notch and the phone does overheat if it's been used heavily on stock rom. To be honest, if you root it, run a custom rom, the 270 dollars you get the phone for will run just as well as a dual core

Thanks for the reply, and what of this "Jelly sandwish" does it over heat with it like it does with the stock rom with alot of use?
Sent from my X10i using xda app-developers app
it's a custom rom among many many others in the Android Development section of Xperia Arc. Depending on which rom you use, overheating would either be a problem or not, in my case with jelly sandwhich, it doesn't exist

I think Ultimate ROM is faster than JS
The phone doesnt overheat with normal usage, it gets heat because of gaming, calls, or web browsing, but you can watch movies, play music, read docs and other normal stuff without overheat
I think I can fry an egg with my GS2, but the arc s only get overheat with games like dead space...
My brother have a X10 with CM7 and the arc s is smoother even with stock rom

[Q] Is 4.1.B.0.587 latest update for Arc lt15i?

Hi all!
I'm not sure if this is the write section for this kind of a question,but...
So i'd like to know if Xperia Arc is getting a new update or latest update 4.1.B.0.587 is the last one.I like ICS UI it's nice, but it sucks with most games, cam recorder doesn't work very well and battery,in other words ICS on xperia arc just sucks,so i would like to know if is sony going to do anything better for arc ICS.If not i just don't want to waste my time on looking for how to make ICS better on my arc.I know there are lots of ROM with tweeks, but even with them i can't get my games to work as they work on GB,about camera it's not a big deal, there is cyber-shot mod for ICS so that should solve it,but i need games,to get my time pass.Thanks.
Hi this is the right place.
Yes theres a new update coming to our arc/s, but we dont know when.
Actually imo the ICS is waaay better than GB. im all stock with bloatware removed/deactivated and the most important im usig the new gpu libs. This gave me avg. 5-10 more FPS. Thats a big deal. Im having the same battery performance on ICS as on GB

ICS is better when stripped of bloatware and tweaked, otherwise it's much more useless than GB

HTC Sensation swap for Xperia S?

I'm considering selling my HTC Sensation XE for a Sony Xperia S. I just want a change and quite like the look of the XS. I'm bored of HTC Sense! Anyone think it's a good idea? Bad idea? Maybe someone in the UK wants to make a swap (outside of XDA of course).

Yes, it's worth. It's a good idea.
Sent from my LT26i using xda developers-app
Trade in at CeX perhaps? (If there's one near you) Might cost you a few quid but shouldn't be more than £20-30 from my experience with them. XS is a lot nicer than Sensation imo.

Not sure I'd get much from cex plus don't trust buying from them!

No! Don't do it until you want a phone with incredible amount of bugs which lags all the time.
Try Samsung or Nexus brand. But never, never buy Xperia S.

Even I am confused between xs and s2 or some other better in range
Seems most are quite happy with Xs as nobody offering to swap ha ha.

SXS has the same outdated SoC than the Sensation. I would not buy.
If you're just bored with Sense you should try aosp custom roms or chance launcher. Nova launcher is my choice.

I have aosp on now and a custom launcher. However no JB update for Sensation means aosp has bugs too difficult to fix. The reason to swap to Xs would be for official JB update I'd still use an aosp rom though.
Sent from my HTC Sensation XE.
Err... i wouldn't go with Sony for the offcial updates... They really suck with it (or Qualcomm, blame whoever you want), the only thing why i love my XS is for the looks of it, and the UI... Yes, i'm a shallow person xD
I would suggest to wait for the sp... Nearly same price range with a newer chipset
Sent from my Xperia ion
I actually had HTC sensation before buying my new Xperia S. The only better thing I can say about XS is battery life. Htc with sense drains battery badly. There are some aosp roms and some kernels which gives really good performance and battery life. But not close to XS with cm10 based roms. I get More then a day's usage on my XS with cm10 and nova kernel.
But I personally loved my sensation. Way better build quality, expandable storage & amazing roms.
I feel XS 12mp camera is average. My pics captured with sensation were as good as XS with cyber shot mod. Doesn't really makes a big difference. I actually love the sense camera. Again way better then Sony cyber shot or stock camera app. But again it's a personal choice.

I would gladly trade my Xperia Acro S for anything HTC. Well, not really anything but sensation is OK. God I hate my Xperia. I hate flashing it, roms separate from kernels, small smount of roms, no miui 5 etc... God why did I buy this stupid phone!

just waiting for official JB, and then, finding a custom rom with sense 5 may be good choice
I had a Sensation and was actually very happy with it with CM10.1. I thought I couldn't live without Sense, but then I rooted and tried CM and didn't miss it at all. Sensation owners are really spoiled by the excellent dev support and the number of ROMs.
I was also considering getting an Acro S, partly due to the low prices, and because I had a huge itch to get something new and better. In the end I didn't because I decided that it wouldn't have been enough of an upgrade and I would have missed all of the ROMs.
My itch to get a new phone didn't go away so I bought a Nexus 4. I've had it for a few days now, but I still miss my Sensation, which goes to show just how good the Sensation is with a custom ROM - Excellent build quality, Android 4.2.2, excellent battery life (with Anker battery), good camera, pretty fast... I would keep the Sensation
-Mark.
