change to gingervillain - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, at the moment i'm running miui 1.7.8 on my desire, and the battery life is quite decent with manu kernel, but i wonder if gingervillain (i've heard of) would give me even more performance and battery life boosts. i have dozens of apps on my phone and can't decide whether change to gingervillain (2.7) or not.
Can you guys tell me your expirience?

The battery life with gingervillain is very good. As it is a AOSP rom you can also use this mod http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1081393
The best way to know which rom is the best (for you) is just to try it

I was using the stock kernel on the latest XJ miui mod last week and was getting around 2 days battery on average use.
Haven't really found anything at the moment that matches except for CM7 nightlies as they use the same kernel.

Just try it. If you not happy, go back to miui.

[Q] Good non-Sense Froyo ROM?

I got me a Desire from Telus a few days ago and i'm looking into rooting and installing ROMs, but i'm not really sure where to start (there seem to be a LOT of choices). I'm not a fan of Sense at all so anything that doesn't include HTC's fluff will probably get my attention.
Thanks!
im currently running opendesire...
pretty much stock 2.2 with a few tweaks, really quick, and no crap.
either that or defrost which is more tweaked and modded.
these are the only 2 active aosp roms that i have seen lately..
the crappy sense ones have kind of taken over

I'd strongly recommend OpenDesire . It's basically vanilla froyo, with a few minor modifications/optimisations. It's compiled from source (it isn't a mod of a nexus one or HTC rom), and so is fast and clean. It's also being updated regularly in response to bug reports.
How's OpenDesire with battery life? Would I see an improvement or would it be pretty much the same thing?
I'm having the same "problem" really. I now run some near to HTC's stock Froyo rom. I'm sure I found it on XDA somewhere but it wasn't from a well-known dev.
I only installed a rom with Sense because of the black bar, since I purchased LauncherPro. But now that the black bar is ripped perfectly I don't see a reason not to run OpenDesire.
All I want is speed and good battery life.
I think that if i didnt care for the sense UI id first try Cyanogens rom...
I'm running CyanogenMod's nightly build on Desire and I really love it.

With OpenDesire 3.1.0 and lates radio X.X.20 I got 2-3 days of battery life depending on the use of the phone. Normally I have 3G enabled almost 80-90% of the time.
Which is better : OpenDesire or DeFrost ???
Yes too bad so few NON SENSE ROM....

Hmmmm, good one, not sure to be honest, the 1st ROM I tried was DeFroST, and loved it, a few days ago I tried Opendesire 3.10, and now I bounce between the 2, as I can't decide.
No help I know, but had to give my thoughts.

Was using OD from version 2.xxx up to 3.1.0 but switched to Defrost 2.6a for two reasons:
1. Auto brightness is working (like in Sense ROMs) i.e. not too dimmed and that's out of the box.
2. My photos/videos taken with the camera app are recognised by my PCs and so can be transferred. In OD unfortunately cannot be seen.
Both ROMs are great vanilla stock like froyo an in my opinion the best ones. Try them both and stick to the one you like more.

Yep I have the same experience with OD3.1.0 and radio .20, I did download a weather widget from the market and it sucked the life from the battery, so got rid of the widget, all good now. Had no probs with the OJ dying yet, so cant comment on the power usage once the OJ dies.
Running OD 3.1 too
Love it and really see no use for the Sense UI on Android due to the availability of widgets.
Just question: why isn't MODACO present on XDA?
there's also one more ROM...
[FROYO-OTA] Psychosis 3.0 No Sense Deodexed A2SD+ AdBlock VERY FAST 720p
Are there any ROMs that offer undervolting or a specific focus on battery life?

Undervolting made my desire go wobbly, but not everyones. Defrost was and is doing lots of uv, uvoc, and oc ing.
Hope it helps

Not that i know of.
Having tried leedroid, defrost, shadowfrost, opendesire, nextsense and neophyte id have to say opendesire has very good battery life compared to the others. Defrost is the most snappy, but it drains the battery like a mofo.

I found the opposite, DeFroST seems to last longer than OD on my phone.

[Q] Worse Battery life on GingerVillain since 0.8

Hi,
I can't post in the GingerVillain thread that's why I'm asking here.
I'm using GingerVillain since 0.3 and until version 0.6 or 0.7 (don't remember exactly) I had great battery life with this ROM. Normally more than 48 hours without a recharge. Now since GingerVillain 0.7 or 0.8 the battery life has gotten way worse though I changed nothing. I did several full wipes with reinstalls but the battery life with GingerVillain standard installation is definitely worse than in the previous versions...
can I tweak GingerVillain maybe with another Kernel from the VillainSetup to get better battery life?
Thanks in advance
I'm on gingervillain rom for quite a while now.
Wish i could have battery life of 48 hours.
This is my first custom rom i installed on my phone.
And my experience with this rom is that battery life is not like the original rom.
But i like this rom a lot. So i stick with this for a while. Charging everyday
I also have this problem, charging everyday at the same time. Not bad as before I would get appx. 1.5 days. Only issue is I don't actually use it that much?
Not really got anything constructive to add. Ginger Villain is the first customer rom I have tried and the battery life is pretty much exactly the same as it was under sense. Namely utterly lousy, need to charge twice a day! Do use it relentlessly mind so it is probably me ;-)
Well I definitely had better battery life with the first GingerVillain versions...that's why I started this thread.....but thanks for your answers so far....

Looking for a Change, Maybe Sense

I have been with DeFrost and Gingavillan for some time now,
And feeling i need a change in my phone as am bored lol!!!
I was thinking of a Sense ROM.
But i have not kept upto date on the forum for some Time,
So Sense users, what are you finding your Best ROM is, Speed, Space and Battery life.
I really like the look of: InsertCoin CM7/A2SD+ STABLE
But not sure on battery life or anything.
What you using guys and girls and your pros and cons
I am loving MIUI at the moment but the battery life isn't good, I can't recommend if that will be an issue, I was using Oxygen before and made it home at the end of the day with ~70%+ battery, I am getting home with ~50% now.
The last sense rom I tried was AceSMod because IC and RCMix had really crap battery life. No idea what it's like now. Just try some sense roms out.
Yer i tried InsertCoin CM7/A2SD+ STABLE
Its a good little ROM, i kinda like it, But the speed is just too slow for me.
So i might give some of LeeDroid's Roms a go later on
im currently using Reflex S
great little rom
I have actually had really good experiences with SGBS. Fast, decently smooth, and battery efficient after a radio upgrade (i was running shipped stock radio before then).
After finding that switch pro had some issues with Gingerbread, I decided to try a couple Froyo roms out... I have NOT had a good experience with Starburst.. but I really like the D2EXT it uses so I might try his Gingerburst today.
And before I had all that I was running a stock Froyo with several init.d mods I've collected, and I really had no reason to switch from that other than curiosity.

[Q] Best Sense ROM with longest battery life

Which Sense 3.0/3.5 ROM will give me the best battery life on my phone ?
They are all much of a muchness really. However in my experience, LeeDroid has always been good as has ARHD, however LeeDroid appears to no longer be supported but ARHD is, hence it's what I run.
With minimal usage I can get about 35-40 hours use.

Another vote for ARHD
I'd say RCdmix Runny 4.0 which is quite good

I get pretty much the same on all of them
but using CM7 with Lordmods undervolting gave me good results
As with any rom what works good for me may not work for you. Some people like CM7, i use ARHD 6.2.0 and get great life etc.
Try each and see which u have better luck with..
Sent from my HTC Inspire 4G using xda premium
Sense ROM's really use much power compared to AOSP ROM's, with ARHD I achieved a max battery life of 24 hours, and now I can easily achieve around 36 hours and sometimes even 48 hours or more.
But if you really really want Sense, then I recommend ARHD
Virtuous Affinity 1.48 or ARHD 6.2.0 in my opinon both have great battery life. With Virtuous I easily achieve 48 hours during normal daily use.
So I flashed Virtuous Afinity 1.48
Regarding the kernel/radio... do I need to do anything or does flashing a ROM include everything ? What radio would you recommend ?
EDIT:
i am using the radio version 12.56.60.25U_26.10.04.03_M (from previous stock version)

for each rom, there are different radio recommendations since every rom is running on different version of gingerbread, you should ask this from the OP of the thread. Or just use the latest radio.
I would personally recommend you a MIUI rom since it is light, no pre installed shyza and gives you around 450mb+ free ram, decent battery life and an eye candy theme. Fully customizable from icons to lockscreen, statusbar to bootanimation e.t.c.

You know what you should do? Flash a ROM in yr DHD and never use it. I guarantee you that you ll have the best battery life then (independent of which ROM you flash!!)
Best for me Blackice rom!! Awesome battery life and damn fast....

Unless you try them and make your own assumption then there is no guarantee on what ROM has the best battery life.
Usage is extremely subjective and varies from user to user.

[Q] Best Battery + bug free rom for HTC Wildfire Buzz?

Hi Guys
Looking for best battery life and bug free rom...
As I am just pissed off by battery life by stock rom, i do not mind going on Aosp rom either on gingerbread 2.3, 2.2 or 4.0
hope some experienced people over here at XDA will help me to find out a good battery life and smooth rom for daily use.
Thanks
From my experience, the best rom (fast, bugfree, no lags) that i have came through is splash mod. Now for the battery, you can download easy battery saved. You can then configure it to stop some things when the phone is locked so that battery consumption is reduced. I personally use it and have my phone up for more than 20 hours
The best thing I've found for battery is to buy a spare battery and a wall charger that holds the spare battery, that way by the time my battery is flat my spare one is fully charged. As for the roms its personal preference in my eyes, splashmod may be fast out of the box but I could have a sense based rom running just as fast within half an hour so my advice is try them all and find one that suits you.

Best rom
IMO,I would say the joker rom, spalsh v1.8,and sunaabh. Ive had about 30-60 percent battery life on averga more than stock rom with the 3 I mentioned
I am curious what makes splash rom faster than cm7 since it is based on nightly 256. I think it might be just because of JIT enabled in CM7 (not sure if it is by default) while it is not enabled in splash rom. JIT might (is) causing some delay when executing applications. What do you think?

No there's nothing special about it, its because he's stripped out all the apps to make it a barebones Rom, thats all.
Not for me though I need apps like the clock and don't want to waste my time downloading such apps from the market, I'd rather have a full version and delete what I don't want myself.

For me best rom is RemPuzzleRom fast, stable and good battery life.
I have had the best battery using CM7. I remove unwanted apps using Barebones tutorial.
~20 hours battery life on CM7.
~17 hours on Rempuzzle
Splash mod 2.0 is the best, becouse there is no bugs and it is very friendly to battery
Sent from my Wildfire using XDA
rempuzzlerom and splashmod .... worked really well for me (about 20 hours of battery backup)
I still use stock 2.2 and trust me battery last for 1 to 1.5 days with constant use of twitter, sms, gtalk, call and browsing.
SplashMOD is very smooth, having no issues with it yet, been in use for 2 months. No FCs, all apps working fine.
CM7 was with me for 4-5 months. Towards the end it got very laggy, like seriously jumpy (probably due to neglect), but battery life on splashmod is no where near as good as CM7.
Maybe i just use it more. I think sleep as android and copilot rinse it, which i didnt have on CM7
Am switching to Rempuzzle soon so see what all the crack is about
