Warranty Replacement Woes... - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I called Verizon about a week ago seeking to get my Droid Incredible replaced. They said that my warranty was still good and that I should call HTC and tell them about my problem. So they gave me this number (866) - 963 - 0953.... I than called that number and told them my problem. That the Power Button no longer worked and I wanted my Phone replaced. And like all CS representatives love doing, they gave me another number to call which they refered to as HTC Repair. I finally got around to calling them today, and they said that their department was only responsible for repairs, not replacements. So can someone with previous experience getting their Inc replaced tell me exactly how they got a replacement? I don't exactly care if its refurbished. I just want a working phone that I can Root and Flash Custom ROMS too! Here is the Number that they gave me that always say they don't give replacements. (800) 229 1235

If your warranty is still good, then Verizon shouldn't be referring you to HTC. You should be able to show them the problem, and they should order you a certified like new replacement. I'd go into a Verizon store or call them again.

Do you think they would replace it for me if its no longer activated or used as a phone?

I got mine replace like 2 months ago... I went to a Verizon store and ask about getting my phone replace because my screen wasn't working fine (although my phone was working fine.. it had a lot scratches so I wanted a new one.) they gave me a number to call and I did but like always they try to get me to do a hard reset and all of that... I told the Rep that I had already done that and without question they ask my information and send me a replacement...
If you are paying for warranty don't let them get to you.... Remember you are paying for it... is your money....

question about exchanging evo

I'm new to sprint so i'm not sure how all of their exchanges and returns work.
I purchased my EVO from a corp store, and if I want to exchange it because the screen is sunken in on the bottom left and the battery cover doesn't seem to fit properly, will I be given a new one or a refurbished one? and will it have the new update on it that prevents rooting? I am still on my 30 day trial so Im assuming that since I paid for a BRAND NEW EVO that that's what I should get since they sold me a defected one.
Also, if I just want to return my phone and save my contract upgrade, will I be charged a restocking fee even though the phone is "defected"
Brand new one within 30 days (assuming it's not damaged and is a phone defect, otherwise go insurance). Go to the store, if they tell you no or try to give you a refurbished one - dial #2 on your phone and get connected to sprint tech support and explain your situation. They'll transfer you to someone else who will probably be able to get in contact with the store.
Happened to me ^^ , but i got a brand new one same day i called sprint support and said they tried to give me a refurb.

hahaha! perfect. Thank you so much
regardless of how long it's been, if it's something wrong with a phone, you CAN get a new, not refurb'd, one.
during my first year with sprint, i went through 8 bb curves. i asked for a replacement and they sent me a refurb. called and asked for a brand new one since the refurb had the same problem as my new one. this kept happening for 8 units. new or refurb'd.
however, after your 3rd replacement within 3 months will require you to get it approved by a tech store to get a replacement.

BRICKED gs2 warranty repair?

Just recently purchased a galaxy s2 and rooted it. Went through process of flashing a rom ([email protected]!!%[email protected]%@) was actually in the i900 forums. So now that I have a brick first one ever, who has done what with theirs?
Sent my brick in to for warranty repair to samsung, received on thursday 1/19. Currently in the "repair status". Will it be repaired without charge? From reading other forums with same sitatuation I have read that it will most likely be repaired under warranty. Any input is helpful! thanks

was it exchanged through tmobile or samsung?
Tmobile does the exchange for you as a service to their customers. The actual warranty is through Samsung. To answer your question should you have it exchanged No because flashing the ROM voids the warranty however will they? Probably.
well, only send it in if the phone doesn't turn on at all, if it turns on to even a boot screen or anything I wouldn't recommend warranty exchange. it was done through Tmobile over the phone .

Bought it off Craigslist , plus I'm not with tmobile. It doesn't power up or anything , not to worried about it just curious to as what others have done
okay, called samsung customer service today to get an update on the phone!
It has been repaired !!UNDER WARRANTY!! current status is its waiting for a shipping label to be printed. Should receive the phone by thursday or friday most likely. Not 100% sure as to what they "repaired" customer service rep somewhat vague on what was done. So hopefully more info once it arrives in the next few days!
my IMEI is under warranty but i bought it off craigslist. do they require proof of purchase?
how did you initiate a warranty repair? i would like to send mine in.
are the numbers below what i should use? or is there a better way to do this.
SAMSUNG
Phone Number: (201) 229-4000
Technical Support: (800) 726-7864 [1-800-SAMSUNG] [PRESS 2]
Heeeeeeey same thing happened to me. Trust me on this. I did the same thing: flashed a MIUI Rom for an i900. Bricked it and I was like "say whaaaaaaaaa?". So I called Samsung, told them I had turned the phone off, pulled out the battery, inserted my SD Card/SIM Card (whichever you prefer), and turned it back on but nothing. Ten they'll ask you to plug it in with and without the battery and just go along with it. Tell them nothing is responsive and blah blah blah. IF THEY ASK IF ITS ROOTED SAY NO!!!! They can't check it because the ROM counter got reset. They replaced my motherboard. Sure it'll take about two weeks but it'll be back.
Here is a screenie with proof. http://i44.tinypic.com/2rpw40x.png
So yeah just call em. If you need anything, feel free to PM me .
Think mine was same as yours, should arrive thursday or friday.

ATT rep said my recent warranty claim was the 1st one made?

Certainly that can't be right.
Nevertheless, I have to say my experience getting my bricked phone (my fault entirely) replaced throught the ATT warranty dept went very well.
They even included overnight shipping, didn't require me to ship mine back 1st and included a return shipping label for my crapped out phone. I made the claim Friday and received my new phone Monday 11 am.
Well done ATT.
Congratulations!
What can you advise me to do with my bricked phone? I bought my phone from eBay and I live in Israel. I think that will not be able to replace my phone for a new one. Only if I'll send it directly to LG. But will there be something to do?

Maybe LG but ATT won't do anything for you unless your a customer. And usually warrenty is not outside of the country you got it from.

I think this particular ATT Rep was smoking salmon...I have returned 2 already due to warranty stuff and will probably be selling the next replacement I get...the rep at my local store wasn't overly enthused with the phone and said that was the consensus.
On a lighter note they were very helpful with getting this taken care of and doing so very quickly...

I don't have AT&T so despite living in the USA, I sent my phone directly to LG. (I use an AT&T MVNO, so I don't get support from AT&T) LG repaired it free of charge and mailed it back. So I guess LG does something right.

what's been the issue(s) with your phones?
Generally, I tend to find local store rep's opinions to be, well, less than they should be. After using this phone for 2+ months I'm unsure why a local store rep would not communicate the benefits of this device as opposed to their lack of enthusiasm for it.
I don't think the phone is so bad...I think there are lots of great things about it. I love the screen, it has the potential to be so quick and snappy and really could be an all around awesome phone...I just realized the fact that updates were going to be a little slower towards this phone and it seemed like making any slight mod (firmware/rom wise) would work but had a much higher failure rate than I think anyone was looking for-hence my looking to move on...
The specific issues with my phone were a short or something that just hard bricked the phone without warning and without any mods...at all. It just turned off one day and nothing could ever, every be done to get it back on. Strange.... the second phone has never been quite right after installing a rom and the boot loops and not being able to reboot was kind of a turn off. Plus the speaker in the earpiece has been a bit wonky so I decided to do a warranty return and then move on from there.
And you're right...some of the reps seem to be way off from what's realistic...you can tell they definitely play favorites and seem to be very partial and unsupportive. But at least they were helpful!

I called LG Customer Service and told them the device wouldn't power up. (I had done a battery pull and it totally hardware bricked the device.) They had me send it to Stellar Wireless with the Repair Authorization # they gave me. I got it back within 7 business days.

Exchanging in a store during your 30 day buyers remorse period is different than exchanging through warranty. You might have exchanged it several times in store, but to AT&T's warranty department, this is the first time. They keep track of how many warranty claims you make, once you get to a certain point they usually allow you to try something different.
As for AT&T store reps, many of them base their opinions on phones on popularity, return rate, etc. The Nitro/Optimus LTE is an awesome phone, but it isn't very popular saleswise.

One problem - I live in Israel, and in my country this device is officially not for sale. So I do not know how and where to call and send the device. I have no idea what to do.
AT&T reps were trained to lie to customers. I had to turn in my SGS2 twice for exchange, and both times I was told I was the first to exchange the SGS2.

HTC One - Manufacturer warranty?

A friend gave me an HTC One thats useless to him since the battery wont accept a charge whatsoever.
It powers on and everything when its plugged in, but it dies immediately if its unplugged.
The phone still has a year left on the manufacturer warranty, but im clueless to HTCs rules/policy/procedure. I am not the original owner and have no papers or proof of purchase. Would I still be able to send it in as is? Or do I need some paperwork etc?
Thanks for any help.
I wasn't the original owner on my phone when I sent it in, and I didn't have to provide any proof of purchase or anything. I just had to pay for shipping to them.
They asked if I could take it to my service provider (VZW), and I said no I couldn't because I wasn't the original owner and they just said Ok, and started on my claim. I did it through online chat - not sure if phone service would be the same or not.

Yep, the devices is the one that gets the warranty regardless of who bought it. they track it with the IMIE that is on the phone.
OP i would suggest you talk to HTC, they are normally good about helping with HW failures like you stated. Couldn't hurt to ask.
Ahh ok, good to know, thanks Synister
I had similar experince, not orginal owner and they will accept RMA if phone is under warrenty.
You pay shipping to them, they cover shipping it back to you..
You don't even need proof of purchase. My wife had to use the advantage screen replacement and the Rep said when the phone first gets programmed, it sends the info to HTC, so they know when the phone was bought.

So I went ahead and did the live chat. I got disconnected twice (who knows why) but they had a record of the convo etc.
Anyway, went through the process to confirm it wouldnt take charge and am sending it in. Pretty cool.
Initially I opted in for the refurbished replacement and then mentioned it had a cracked screen. I got excited for a moment thinking the warranty coverage may actually accept it and they would send a non-cracked refurb . As expected though, no go there so im just gonna get the battery fixed.
Thanks for the help everyone.

Did you ask about the free screen replacement for the phone? maybe while they are fixing the screen they will do the battery too? I know some people are saying its only 6 months for the screen but i did convince a friend to try and they are going to fix his One Max screen and he's owned it for 8 months. worth a try.

Can't get the phone into fastboot at all

Hello. trying to relock bootloader to return to bestbuy and for the life of me I cannot get the phone into fastboot with adb. I have USB Debugging on, the computer authorized through the phone, but fastboot devices doesn't do anything. I can't even flash a factory image. I can even get it to show up with adb devices but that's all I can do. I have all the drivers installed and am plugging into the back of the windows 10 computer and also tried two different cables. I'm not sure what to try next. I also cannot get it to go into fastboot with power and vol+. Phone works great otherwise. Nothing wrong with it.
You're typing adb reboot-bootloader? And that doesn't do anything?
Okay I'm an idiot. That was the problem. I was typing in fastboot devices. Still weird how the factory image wouldn't send it to bootloader.

Are you getting a replacement or simply returning? Curious because I think I might be taking mine back. To many issues. Part of me wants to get another one but if it comes with 7.1.1 and I can't unlock bootloader I'd return for good anyways and skip this phone.

I'm going to try to return because I don't like the locked bootloader and I also think the Pixel XL is too big. It's hard to use with one hand and I'm afraid I'm going to drop it. I'm on my Note 3 until my Pixel comes in from google, but I actually don't mind the Note 3 since the bootloader is now unlocked for Verizon. There's a lot of good roms out now. I don't know if I can step back to the Note 3 camera from the Pixel and 6P before....

Haven't returned anything to best but before what did you tell them? Did you have to show them the issue? Reason I ask is because I was in there black Friday and the 2 people in the mobile department were very rude to the point where I got in an argument with them and had to talk to the manager. I just wanna at least try getting a new one before returning for good. Was there a restocking fee or anything

Hers was a new one that I ordered. But I've returned phones to them a bunch of times with no issues. I replaced my wife's old 6p twice at best buy. They just gave me a new one off the shelf both times.
They would not return it because it was outside of the 14 day return policy. Their return policy with the holiday season is ambiguous but I'm stuck with it now. Maybe I'll try to sell on swappa and get a Pixel or go back to my Note 3.

So I managed to return it today. I brought in the return policy from online which shows off contract phones are under the holiday return policy. There might be a $35 restocking fee though. I had someone more competent today than last night.

I actually got really lucky yesterday. I looked online and the only best buy that had them in stock was an hour and 10 minutes away from me. I called customer service to confirm. So then I wanted to talk to someone IN the actual store before driving there and confirm the return process and also make sure it was there. Figured out that if you call your local best buys number it's nearly impossible to get someone from that actual store and not customer service. I pretended to have a question for the Geek squad and once I got them on the line asked for the mobile department.
So I talked with them and confirmed they had it..told him what was happening with mine and he said it was no problem and he will set one aside for me. He mentioned something about "processing the return" so I wanted to clarify with him what was gonna happen. Best buys $10 a month deal is different than Verizon's. I was worried that if he processed my return and did the purchase from scratch that it might somehow mess this loop hole up and I'd be stuck with Verizon's 2 year bill credits. Thankfully this guy was familiar with EXACTLY what I was talking about. He said they don't know how it is different than Verizon's deal but said he is totally aware of it. So he said he would talk with someone about the exchange process and call me back. Over an hour later I had to call them again. He told me I had two options and he said the first option is something they aren't really supposed to do. He told me they would literally just swap them out and not process any kind of return/exchange with Verizon. He said the only downside to this would be if I ever wanted to trade the phone into Verizon I wouldn't be able to because the one on my DPP would be the original IMEI not the replacements' IMEI. Second option was to process a return and set it all up from scratch. He said we would then have to call Verizon to fix the pricing and get me the $10 deal and that it most likely would be with Verizon's bill credits though.
Naturally I jumped on the first option and told him I'd be right there. Then I asked if I HAD to activate the replacement there and he said "yea that's normally how they have to do it". I then explaied to him how I can't unlock the bootloader if it installs the software update during setup so I need to take the SIM out and skip the setup so I could unlock with my computer at home. Again he knew exactly what I was taking about and said he would ask the other guy again and call me back. 10 minutes later he called back and said "yea we can do that it won't be a problem" so I told him I'd head up there right then.
So I get there and it was as simple as handing him my box (they didn't even look it in).. he did some kind of magic on his computer.. as he was doing this I opened the new one..took out the SIM and skipped through the setup..enabled developer options and turned off automatic updates.. then he gave me a receipt and that was it!
What started out as a confusing nightmare because no stores had them in stock so I was worried about a replacement shipping with the new software.. ended up working out easier and better than I could have imagined.
I got so LUCKY that I dealt with the person I did at that Best Buy becasue the people at my best buy would have been clueless and not done anything like this for me.
