[Q] Which Rom I Should Use? - Wildfire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Sorry for troubling you guys, I want use a custom rom on my wildfire.can u plz suggest which custom is more stable?

Its personal taste. I use CM7 stable which is (as the name suggests) stable. It depends if you want AOSP on sense

Just so you know - FM and Video Recording do not work in CM6.

cm 7.0.3 seems fine for me and everything works

I'm finding CM7 buggy in the long run also. Have this regular problem where opening messages leaves me with a blank screen which sometimes appears if I rub the screen up and down.

[Q] Best rom? Revolution 2.0.8 vs CM6 vs CM7

As title says..what do you think is the best ROM? and why? I have finally rooted the DHD and I want to try something new
Pls suggests me
thanks in advance for the answers
Can't really comment on Android revolution as I have never used it, don't like sense and hadn't realised there was a no sense option.
Cm 6 is great and the latest release is very stable, but...
Cm 7 brings gingerbread I have had no stability issues, and have been running it since the builds where unofficially compiled from source, current nightly builds are great.
But everyone has different needs / likes, I have been a CM fan since I first installed it on my HTC Magic and it suits me, give Android revolution a go and see what you think you've nothing to lose except your time
yea you can't compare those roms
sense vs. clean 2.2 vs. clean 2.3
depending on what u prefer
some like sense, some like a full stable 2.2, some like to play test person and use 2.3 nightly
I used PNK22 for my day to day rom. For a time had no real problems with it other then no camara yet, this was and still is the only reason i am not using it today..

good
just a question..there's update manager or something like this in the CM7?
I mean, if I install build 18 then build 19 is released how can I upgrade?
download it from thread and flash or use rom manager (the paid version) to get notified and download it on your mobile + update

by simply installing the zip, you dont need to wipe anything as long as only a small amount has changed. Using rom manager or rebooting into recovery and installing zip with that will work.
but, if there is a large change you will need to wipe data etc. Just make sure you dont wipe your sd card
can someone give me a link to the "stable" version of cm7? the development forum is a bit confusing cause there are too many links of CM7 and I can't understand the one you are talking about
h t t p ://mirror.teamdouche.net/?device=ace
There is not yet a stable ROM of CM7 for Desire HD.
I'm running Nightly Build #14 smoothly.
Greetz
i loved CM7, but i also liked the integration with sense so i went with revolution, but i prefer the gingerbread keyboard
I'm currently running Android Revolution 2.0.8 with a few customisations of my own and I love it. That said I can't use a ROM which doesn't have Sense UI.
If I could put up with not having the additions that Sense UI adds to a ROM, I'd probably be using a CM7 nightly.
It's Revolution 2.0.9 now (fast developer ), but I find this best for my needs personally. It's all about individuality, so try each one you like the look of and stick with the one that works best for you.

[Q] Gingerbread roms question ???

Hello, noob here, so be gentle. I want to install gingerbread on my desire but not sure which one to go for. What's the best one Oxygen 2.0 RC7, cyanogenmod cm7, etc.
Also one thing I'm not sure, when I go to the page of roms for the desire and click on the Gingerbread roms I'm given a list of different rom so I though I think Oxygen 2.0 might be the best so I might try this one but then I go to another page and it's about the rom and the download link is there but I have two options and not sure if I need to download only the first one (Oxygen 2.0 - RC7) cause below I also have this link to download Oxygen v1.0.4 (Froyo stable).
So do I download the first only, or both or oxygen v.1.0.4 only ?
And do i need to bother with any other files like radio, gapps...
I'm running 2.2 vodafone
Thank a lot for any advice.
What you like best is up to you.
Oxygen comes with Gapps, on Cyanogenmod you have to flash them yourself. If you go for Oxygen just download RC7, not the old froyo one, and flash it. No real need to change the radio but if you want you can change to the recommended one.
oh, i get it now. Yeah, will try oxygen as i want gapps. Exciting... Thanks a lot
Try Cm7 Its really getting stable by the day.. and it does not stop at rc7
I've had GingerVillain for a couple of weeks and I'd recommend looking at this too. Video camera working (although not yet at 720p), everything else works fine (wifi, gps, bluetooth). Included are lots of the cyanogenmod tweaks as well.
Very stable and runs well with eViollets 'battery efficient' kernel for longer battery life.
Personally I'd do some more reading up first on these.
Anything AOSP based is going to have boot-loop issues, video cameras are hacks at best etc.
I'm still running oxygen (latest test build) but it doesn't come without it's warnings.
Next couple of weeks should see the N1 OTA update and some fairly significant progress in GB for desire.
Excuse my ignorance but what is asop based ?
I also read somewhere that froyo is the last update for the desire. No more...
AOSP = Android Open Source Project...that's what all of these custom ROMs (CM7, Oxygen, etc.) are built on.
FroYo may be the last official update but, as you can see, the AOSP devs have Gingerbread running on it so you will see support for the Desire as long as the hardware supports it.

First time using custom rom

Using oxygen atm. LOVING it lol. A few things I'm sure will be fixed next update but its so much better than stock. Any other roms recommended to try? I got the custom rom f
ever! =]

I guess it's just as stabe as Oxygen.
And as far as I have read there will be no more updates for Oxygen before the OTA is out.
I have to say I haven't tried Oxygen, but I think they use the same source ?
Anyway rooting my Desire and putting on a custom rom is the best decision I have done for my phone. I have topped it off by putting on the CM7 Hboot, giving me lots of space for apps on the phone.

AFAIK Oxygen is maintened by AdamG.
Adam worked on OpenDesire earlier.

Yes maintained by AdamG, but the source is still the AOSP from Google.
And CM 7 uses that also.
They each have their own additions to the code, but I guess the core is the same.
I've also flashed Oxygen ROM first and than after sometime later MIUI-Au.
In terms of customization (UI, themes, options, etc.) and details, I can say that MIUI wins..
I'm glad I rooted my Desire since I don't have internal memory space issues anymore, only thing that maybe bothers me since I rooted my phone is that battery drains up quicker than with Sense.. maybe I'm wrong..
Redux RC6 - stable and fast. Im running it with the coutts .38 kernel and it's smooth....
There's always a bug somewhere for me and it is very annoying (no matter what ROM I use). So, I'm back to a stock Froyo (even though it is not my favourite!)

I did the same. i mean why to use a custom rom if you can't use your phone at 100% ( for example use camera or radio). ok you get more space, so what?
i have to confess i liked seeing my desire on gingerbread and if i find a close to custom full working rom i ll flash it again.

Which ROM do you recommend?

I'm thinking about changeing ROM in my Desire, Right now I'm using MildWild 5 (from here) but it's missing few small things I need.
Which of GB ROMs do you recommend? Why GB? Because I would like to have Camera fully working (only one 4.0 ROM has it running, but that ROM is only in English and Chinese).
Looking for something stable, this is the most important for me, someting that doesn't have problems with battery and of course has camera fully working. Also it need to have more then just english and chinese language
Would be nice if it was something based on Sense ROM's with few adjustments. Have tried already LeeDroid and I'm thinking about using it once again, but wanted to know if there is something else worth to try.
Thank you

PS: to have a sense feel, use supernova rom
there is cool ex sense ics themed rom or you could try mildwild for a stock ,dont go for any sense rom base on 3.5 or higher found they lag like hell
any rom based on sense 3.0 and below works well .

If u want stable , u should go to stock rom
Mildwild is still my favourite since its fast and stable.
I tried ChromiumRom for its look but found it to be a little laggy for my daily usage http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2205516
MIUI-XJ was my first rom and really liked for its ability to switch up themes easily in 2.3.7 and its "iPhone-esque" feel but soon realised it was a bit heavy on resources and thus battery suffered.
Desire is getting old now so i would say go for the latest 'stable and fast' blend of ROM.
Presumably you are needing video camera to work fully, not just the still camera?
CarbonRom KitKat 4.4.3 and AOSB KitKat 4.4.4 - these are my favorites.
4.4.4 Beanstalk RC6
It's faster than GB!
Do you want stability and absolutely everything working? Then go for any (aosp preferably) gingerbread rom.
Do you want bleeding edge of development? Then go for the latest evervolv nightly based on 4.4.4 android. But you should forget video recording and expect some rough edges and no guarantees on stability.
It is a matter of choice after all.

There are quite a few Stable, GB Roms with a working camera, I am using Nlooooo's stock sense GB Rom with everything fully working (inc 720p Video Recording), its rooted, and has a2sd support.
Here is the link if youre interested, in my opinion its the best ROM ive ever had on the Desire. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1523325

[Q] Most stable KitKat ROM for Desire Z?

Im wondering right now what is the most stable KitKat ROM for the Desire Z? I know it cant be stable AND no lag so lets just go with stable....Right now, I have a 4.2.2 ROM that is OK but sometimes it reboots ALL day and suddenly stops and is stable (and no lag).
Which 4.2.2 rom do you have?
For now, nothing on KK is better than the AlterNdromadus 4.2.2

Its guhl's permissions ROM.
I am not looking for a 4.2.2 ROM. I asked for a 4.4.x ROM.
Thank you for your reply but that is not what I am asking
so try purekat, it's not stable but for me the most stable

To be clear, I wanted to tell you that KK Roms are far away from being as stable as this 4.2.2 rom.
So, I went back on 4.2.2.
The only thing that are better on KK : the clock, dialer and contact apps (aesthetically)
I'm waiting for PureKat beta3 (after Marco's exams !).

No, your preconceptions are incorrect. Firstly, CM is based on AOSP and does not diverge away enough (ala MIUI) to ruin performance. Secondly, CM is actually better performing because with CM we have more up to date libs etc. especially for qcom stuff like libhardware. Due to there never being AOSP support for this device and HTC stopping official support at 2.3, then clearly CM stuff is gonna work better for our device. Why do you think the Andromadus team stopped AOSP 4.2.2 after beta8?
Now the one case where AOSP is faster (for me) is Fyodor's 4.2.2 ROM, because he put in the effort to get all the libhardware stuff and qcom display stuff working nicely.
If you don't believe me then sync the latest Andromadus AOSP 4.2.2 source (as of around the end of 2012 I think), build it, and tell me you prefer it to their most recent CM build.

This is true, and the only advice I can give also. Besides, there are only 2 KitKat ROMs to choose from: Andromadus test builds or Marco's PureKat (CyanKat, AOSB are out of date so won't be stable).
I might like to add that this thread is against the rules anyway so you should be grateful it hasn't been reported yet and accept the advice you've recieved (which has been good).
Essentially, for stability go with 4.2.2, for most stable KitKat it will take you a total of 2 whole flashes to find out which one you prefer.

Every 4.2.2 ROM Ive tried that is based on CM vs AOSP is slower. On AOSP you lose some nice features, but Its always seemed slower and more of a memory hogger.
Seems to me that way anyways.

Newer isnt always better.
Also:
I was thinking of updating this, but I've lost my G2. I can't blind dev and I ran into enough difficulties as it was when I could test it. Java is just too confusing for me right now, so much more confusing than C which I'm only just starting to get comfy with. Unfortunately the lag is just a problem you'll have to get used to, backup and clean flash and wait a while. I couldn't do anything tobhelp you anyway, I just don't know how. I can give you the age ole tips: no task killers, no placebo scripts, minimal apps, minimal gapps, no hangouts, no Facebook, no heavy browsers (opera mini is great) but yeah I'm really sorry but there won't be any updates. As it is I think the ROM works well anyway. I'm no dev so if you want someone to support then turn to Flinny, Marco, NeverGone, etc. It sucks that my goal to have a stable sorta up to date ROam was dashed but that's life. Thanks to the people who liked the ROM anyway

1: Java is more confusing than C? Wow....
2: Saying "lag is just a problem youll have to get used to" is a no no. Like I mentioned, the ROM Im currently on is almost lagless but just has the problem of suddenly becoming stupid and rebooting all the time. Other than that, it is great.
3: Saying that the ROM works well anyways when you are mentioning that it lags and also recommending several comprimises like no heavy browsers and no minimal apps is just a no-no. Im sure this ROM had its time and its moment but its been out matched.
I guess Ill stay on this ROM for now and hope that KK development gets better. That or Phonebloks...
Im using a lower end phone these days because of a nonrelated issue and it already has 4.4.2! Im just surprised.
It also works pretty damn good considering the speed and RAM it has.
For me AOSB 1.2.9 is faster but Flinny's alpha3 is most stable because using AOSB it some times gets reboot especially when open es file explorer .quick pic etc.But AOSB consumes a lot of customizations its really good.
