Hi everyone
I'm a new DHD user and not a native English speaker, so i really want to know how i can watch my favorite movies (most in English) with my mother language subtitles and still has Dolby enhancement effect? If i am not wrong, the stock video player comes with the DHD has the effect, but it cannot read subtitle files, and in opposite other 3rd video player apps has the power to show subtitles but sound quality is worse without Dolby.
Any help would be appreciated
Is that the problem of your video? Because i using the dhd player to watch it got subtitle, it is ok and without any problems~

Really? Which type (extension) of subtitle did you have? I have .srt files and the stock player does not show anything =.=

I'm pretty sure the stock video player doesn't support subtitles. Try MoboPlayer from the market
Try RockPlayer .

+1 totally agreed
I tried Moboplayer, it's one of the best video player out there with intuitive UI and flexible option. But it does not support sound effect like the stock, such a pain
So how on earth can i get both those amazing effect and subtitles for films?
I think the only way out your dilemma is to encode your video and use bitmap subtitles that are blended iinto video file.

like the post before this said, the only way would be to hardcode the subs into the movie files and then watch them with the stock player
Ok then btw, dont know why the htc video player is that s__u__c___k! Not even had a setting menu, and does not show video's name neither. Kind of useless!

Can anyone advise me on some of the best music & video player app one can use instead of the stock versions? If you consider design of the player apps and it's functions. Thank you. BTW, the stock player does not have a STOP button. Now that is lame.

Best video player I've used by far is Act 1 - my review here: http://www.theandroidappreviewer.com/app-reviews/act-1-video-player-app-review/
It's only recent, but Lithium is by far the best player I've used.
The interface is very professional with great gestural control, 4 widget sizes, automatic album art downloader, custom playlists, replacement lockscreen when music is playing, etc.
But I like it best for the interface. =)

Yeah I had a word with the dev and he said that he may come up with a paypal version but he does not want to right now 'coz of licensing issues.
He said and I quote.
Regarding Paypal, I didn't yet create an account. But then you need to manage the release of updates (need a license key etc). Which might require quite some DEV.
But will think about it in the long term.
Thks again for the support.

mVideoPlayer for movies/videos
Music Player Pro for Music
Music Mod for Music widget
There is no player that does PROPER gapless playback for mp3...
Even .ogg and .flac files all produce a statick click when the next track begins. Is this a 'feature' of the Galaxy in general?

I totally agree!! I love Lithium. I'm trying this new one now called "ttpod" which downloads lyrics and lets you display them over top of all apps. Get a copy and turn off karoke mode if the lyrics over top annoy you . Best movie player I would say is mVideoplayer . I just havn't found anything else like it (paid or otherwise)

Have you tried Lithium ? settings for it but I really couldn't care about gapless play
I've just tried mvideoplayer without success, but I still can't seem to find a (free) video player that will play (or even acknowledge) my .mpg videos!
I'm not interested in subtitles or any other format apart from .mpg
Any suggestions?
Maybe winamp or realplayer?

For audio either winamp or power amp for video its either the stock player from SGS or mVideo player, I didnt include rockplayer on the list as it has issues with a lo of my HD anime files.

Did you actually read my question EarlZ ?
The best music player has to be powerAMP. And the best video player is in my opinion the stock player, it's slick and clean and plays many kind of videofiles flawlessly like MKV.
Personally I think the stock music player is great. Equaliser, effects, and the disc view is pretty cool. As well as controls on the lockscreen (only when using glass lock) and app drawer.
Have yet to see a 3rd party one that makes me want to switch.
For video mVideoPlayer is my favourite. It lacks the 5.1 sound option from the stock player though.
I have yet to find a music player that can sort by album artist (not artist) and provides an output selection of bluetooth or phone.
Really frustrating that such basic features don't exist.
Is there any video player which also supports subtitles.
earlier i used an app which only supports Galaxy S.
It even has support for subtitles.
But i don't remember that now.
Can anyone please help

+1 but i think you mean mVideoPlayer, it's probably the best video player out there for Android, i'd recommend it over anything!
Try it, it's awesome.
If you upgrade to 2.2.1, the samsung default video player support subtitles.
RockPlayer supports SRT subtitles
Well there are 2 famous vplayers for that:
1) RockPlayer - supports .srt subtitles, but plays almost everything
2) mVideoPlayer - supports almost all types of subtitles, but it uses only hardware video codecs
So it's some kind of dilemma, in any case i have them both

Open your subs file in Notepad++ (for PC) then choose Format(Coding/Code Page?) => Convert to UTF-8 without BOM, and save it. Now it should display greek letters fine

Is there any way to add additional codecs on to the stock video player?
If not, is there another video player that would work like the stock video player that could shrink the video player on to home screen for multitasking purposes?
The reason is that I have a lot of mkv and rmvb videos, and don't really want to go through the hassle of coding all of them.

The best one at the playstore is MX Player Pro, I think it even plays more formats than
the stock video player and it looks almost the same but it has a lot more features on options.
The MX Player Pro does have a different codec for different phones,
if I recall it automatically downloads/install the correct one.
It plays mkv, rmvb and just about any and all other formats.
I never found a video which it cannot play.
Here is the playstore link so you can check it out: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mxtech.videoplayer.ad&hl=en
Its really excellent.

I've been using MX Player Pro too, just that I want to be able to really utilize Note 3's multi tasking features more. The Note 3's video player has a pop out feature when it'll shrink and continue playing on your home screen while you do other stuff. Just wondering if there's any other video player that could do that too.
So, I have my N72013, and my 1080p MKV files play, but the audio doesn't. I was wondering if anyone has played with Handbrake / h.264 settings / whatever to get some good quality video on here. I'm more concerned with quality than size.
I'm not super familiar with video encoding, but I'm using handbrake on OSX. Thanks in advance!
I regularly use Handbrake. What is the original source (Blu-ray?) and what are your settings under the Audio tab?

Well, the original source is a downloaded MKV. I swear it's all legit. the file has .1080p.WEB-DL.DD5.1.H.264 appended to it. so it's already an h.264 mkv. I'd prefer to play it in the stock media player on android if possible, with audio. I'm not big on having more apps... kinda freaks me out. I'd rather transcode all the audio in these videos to make it work lol. Yes, I'm that guy.
My audio settings that I'm going to use are whatever you tell me. I haven't transcoded anything yet, because I figured I'd ask here before I made a mistake. Couldn't find much in the way of google besides forum.doom9.org/archive/index.php/t-168407.html - but it wasn't clear to me since I'm not familiar with this stuff, and I think it's more an audio format issue than a video.
If audio was encoded with something that MX Player doesn't handle natively, then as NeXuS7_uSeR said, you'll need a custom codec. It would be faster than re-encoding, unless you wanted to reduce file size in exchange for video quality loss.
Handbrake can change the audio codec, if you've never experimented with that. You can mix down an audio track to regular stereo tracks encoded in MP3, which then any player should handle.

It's been my favorite. I've tried others but don't care for the interfaces. When Android 4.3 broke most video players, I found one that was pretty good (name escapes me right now) except that it didn't handle subtitles well. I keep coming back to MX.

Just as a follow up, I did find this commit in CM11
http://review.cyanogenmod.org/#/c/56453/
from two days ago. maybe I need an update
I have always used MX Player on all of my Samsung phones and tablets for at leas the last 3 years.
I've never used the stock Samsung video player to play anything until today. I noticed the stock video player
produced a MUCH sharper picture than MX Player. I tried this comparison on my phones as well and got
the same results.... the Samsung stock video player always had the sharper pictures. (Note 3, Note 2 and
S4)
I tried to adjust everything setting in MX Player that I can think of, including codec, and changing from HW to
HW+ to SW decoding.... made no difference. The picture was always softer than the stock video players.
All of the videos were either 720p or 1080p MKV/MP4s.(recorded from 1080i output from my HD DVR
or converted from Blu-ray discs)
Is there something else that I can do to make pictures sharper? (or at least as sharp as stock video player?)
Thanks!
stock video player is optimized for the display. may be thats y
Yeah stock is optimized for your device which is why while MX player is compatible for most versions of android of devices which is a lot to optimize for each device.

I guess it's the AC3 codec you have problem with, it's been mentioned before if you take a look here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-s/general/codecs-samsung-video-player-t2812549
but it's a easy fix, if you read the post I made in the thread it will let you play AC3 audio too, so now I'm using the stock video player instead of MX Player.

no, not what I heard of as they removed support for AC3, you can use MX Player if you don't want to root it, but it's really simple to root. what version of Tab S do you have?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-s/general/cf-auto-root-chainfire-t2881826
Is it psychological or is it possible there is no difference playing a 2560x1600 video between MX player and stock player? I mean, I don't see this difference you speak of, but I want to make sure.
Any way to stream to the samsung video app from my pc via smb. Right now I'm going through es explorer and it's ok on 720p but on 1080p m2ts or mkv I get loading circle every few seconds.
I get the same from mx player too. Bsplayer can stream from smb directly but I think picture quality isn't as good or may be just my imagination.

You can guys articulate what exactly "optimized" means with regards to that?
Also wanted to point out about the audio with the stock player Is that it has 7.1 surround sound which makes it incredibly better than the MX Player decoded with a double volume amp
Sent from my SM-T805
Can anyone else verify that the stock player looks better than mx or bsplayer. I tried playing the nature video that comes on the tab S and a few others and they look about the same to me. Hard to tell. Maybe it's a little better, but that could be placebo effect.
On the other hand, there are lots of video the stock player just can't play.

The crap about stock being "optimized" is pure bull****. The standard and decoding algorithms are well defined and the only possibility is if stock adds artificial sharpening which would actually reduce quality compared to the intended picture. This is pure placebo and a lively imagination talking. Just use mx and enjoy a much better codec support.

Hey there!
My question is not exactly about the stock and mx player video player but about videos. The question is I know that the resolution of the tab's display is very very high and with this high resolution watching movies with their lower resolution the movies on this tablet won't be as sharp as the display itself, so the question is which resolution is ok for watching on this tablet? I mean if I download a 720p movie or series and try to watch it on the tab s 8.4 will it be sharp enough not to realize the pixels during the film or for example a DVD quality film is also ok with this tablet to watch on? Hope you could understand me, i'm hungarian and hard to describe my problem. )
