will green lense work with hd ? atleas in time - Defy General

Hy i wans wondering are we the green lense defy owners going to have a hd recording? or its a hardware limitation thx for all following answers

Hello,
as far as I know, the green lens cannot, recording Videos in HD. (at least the green 'SOC' lenses)

afaik the green lens is a ov5630 lens, which CAN record hd @60fps (according to the datasheet). and this is the same lens the iphone 4 has, which is also capable of hd recording. so i dont know, maybe its because of the processor or something...

There are green 'SOC' and green 'Bayer' lenses.
The SOC lenses cannot recording in HD!?

i cant say it is impossible..but as of now it is nearly impossible..many devs are trying their best to get HD recording in green lens..moto GB kernels recognizes only bayer lenses..

thx for the answers so it is still hope maybe wen we will receive the unlocked bootloadder someone will cook a kernel thx for al the answers

Who knows if backlight can work as flashlight?

Hi all,
The light at the back that works like, when you flip the phone upside down while having a caller, the phone mutes, and the light flashes so you are aware you still have someone on the phone. (which i think is a useless issue of having a light for, for just that reason only)
I like my flashlight on the first Touch Pro. Specially with some good software where it can also work as a Torch!
Does anyone know if the light on the back of the TPII can work as a camera-flashlight or as a torch?
Extra comments:
TPII blows, it doesn't have much better hardware then TP. Just a bit better software upgrade. To bad.
Look at samsung, LG etc. all already with 8MP camera's! Here comes HTC's latest: with a 3.2MP, and NO flash!
I hope the leaked out details for HTC 2009 line-up will come true.
One (SuperStar) supposedly will have nVidia chipset , I hope so, finally to watch DivX/XviD videos!!!
And one (Thoth) will have a chipset of a 1000Mhz processor!
Hopefully HTC will combine the 2 forces together!
A phone with lots of internal mem, fast processor, fast HD video chipset (incl. tv-out), good quality speakers and mics, a 8MP camera! WITH FLASHLIGHT for f*ck sake! at least 1800Mah battery! Qwerty Keyboard Slider. Side-Keys for easy mobile gaming. And maybe even the latest MicroVision PicoP micro-projector!
Come-on HTC, you want to make profit again? Make the best available phone out today!
Greetings
P.
i assume that if someone makes and app (similar to the iphones) that makes the screen completely white and maxes out the backlight then yes! but it wont work as well as an LED flash like with the TP
There is no LED for the camera that could be used as a flashlight.
An indicator LED is nowhere near powerful enough to act as a flashlight usually, so I don't think you'll be in luck.
Regarding your comments saying how the TP2 'blows', I'd say it's a big step forward from the TP2 - a proper replacement for the Kaiser (big WVGA tilting screen!). Not perfect, but it is probably the best hardware Qwerty phone on the market (or will be!).
I always hear ppl complaining about the camera...
Cameras in Phones don't have as much room, as such they're limited in size, making the Mpixels harder to achieve, making the threshold for the oh so fun whitenoise lower.
I'd be happier with a 3.2 that gives me perfect pics, as opposed to a 8.0 that gives me noise.
Also if I KNOW I'm going to take pictures... I have a camera for that. The camera on the phone is just for "geez lemme get a pic to remember that" for anything more a phonecam just won't cut it without all the "gimmicks" a real camera has (like a real focus)
A flash? on a Phone targetted at businessmen... well yeah why?
A flashlight? Seriously?
The white led's that lay under the Call and End buttons are well enough to come with a warning label on their own.
People are seriously concerned whether a hi-tech piece of mobile communication and data access device can double as a f'n flashlight? wow.
There is an app called flashlite in dev and hack section
This can be helpfull your question

HTC's site lists the following for camera in their specs for the TP:
CameraMain camera: 3.2 megapixel color camera with auto focus and flash light
Second camera: VGA CMOS color camera
Here is the listing for the TP2:
CameraMain camera: 3.2 megapixel color camera with auto focus
Second camera: VGA CMOS color camera
I think that pretty much sums it up for you. I like the flashlight on my TP, but this is definitely not a deal breaker for me. I think the screen size is a significant upgrade over the TP, otherwise the internal hardware is more or less the same. I could care less about 8MP. My 3.2MP Olympus camera is still the best one I have owned. Why do you need more than that especially in a phone?

Low quality on photos?

Hi all, my friend does have a new HTC Desire HD and wanted me to ask you why does this phone record wonderful videos, even if not in HD, but photos are really poor?
He set resolution to 8mpx, what's wrong with it?
In what way are the photos low quality?
More info would be good.
I find the camera works best with lots of natural light. Outside sunny days etc. But its still a phone camera so its going to have all the usual limitations, like a small sensor and shutter lag.

Well, short but complete answer : maybe you've missed this thread...

How good is the camera

How would you rate the camera of DHD? Lets say 10 is TOO DAMN GOOD and 1 is VERY BAD.
and how about it if you compare it with Dell streaks camera?
Not good at all. Anything at night will be blurd. Even standing still allowing the camera to fully focus gets you a blurred photo. May have 8mpg but the lens is rubbish therefore you will never have that good of a photo. Video is ok all in all as its 720p.
Camera : 3/10
Video : 8/10

what about the shots in day light? are they good? i don't take much shots at night but in day and some indoors, so how about them?
Daylight shots are, in my view, superb. Low-light shots are pretty bad, as the other guy said earlier. That's true of all camera phones I've owned though...

I use the camera not very often. The quality and easy to use are not very good
Camera: 2/10 (My HD2 take better pictures for sure)
Video: 5/10
I allready send back two DHD for replace.
(with blur problems).
HTC really disappoint me...
Now i will whating for the Galaxy S2 release.
Camera: 6/10
Video (daylight): 9/10
Video (low light): 4/10
The quality highly depends on how much light is available, I've taken some awesome camera shots and some which were really poor. If your buying the phone only for 8mpx camera, don't bother. It's not all about the pixels.

completely agree +1
For me the camera is not that good considering 8mp
I see areas of quality in certain parts of the shot with the rest appearing blurred, and yes the lens has been cleaned with the correct type cloth.
My first pictures made me think about the issue of round lens, square picture, the edges all looked blurred and only the centre was focused.
I have read that altering the default settings from auto make a difference, but not for me, it is only used as an emergency camera.
Video is OK, even 720p, but again, not a perfect device.
But when you remember this is primarily a phone saves having multiple devices
I think is great. There is a guide somewhere here you can use for better results

If your recording in bad light conditions (eg. inside your house) then yep, that's normal...
So has anyone of you compared the pics with those of a streak? It is my 2nd choice after DHD and since DHD's camera is not that good i am cosidering Dell Streak, so anyone who has compared them?

[Q] DHD 720p - 1080p

Hey Everyone
Just woundering with the new HTC's that are coming out, They all have 1080p recording with a 8 megapixel camera, would this mean that our DHD camera should be able to record at 1080p as cant the desire record in 720p yet it didnt come with the feture when released.
Sorry if this has already been asked I searched but couldn't find anything in the DHD forum
Thanks
Well the 1080p capture is supported by the new chipset. The one in the DHD is slightly older and can only encode 720p max. So no i don't think it's possible for the DHD to record 1080p.
The latest HTC Sensation got Dualcore processor 1.2ghz for each core. Which was comparatively more powerful than our DHD. So it can capture 1080p. I don't think its possible for our DHD.
Sent from my Desire HD
I don't get why people want higher resolution video recording, it doesn't really improve picture quality. What I think needs improvement is colors, lowlight recording and less image noise.
Jap, 1080p is just not possible because chipsets can't encode it, and DHD camera lens are not for that, and anyway do you need that 1080p? 800x480 are good enaught for a PC and TV,
The camera chip itself supports 1080p video recording. the problem is the processor which can't handle the high resolution.

It was more curiosity than anything as just woundering if our phone was just held back or it was software.
on a diferent note I was reading about the new htc phone and they said its the new flagship phone which does that mean ours has been dropped as the flagship model as does that really matter?
Thanks

[Q] defy green or red lens?

is there a command that will tell me which lens i have? i'm color blind and cant tell or is there a app or some other way of telling thanks.
just take a picture (5MP), and if its less than 1MB you have green lens, if its around 1.5-2MB, you have red lens (of course this only works if you havent applied any camera patches!)

1.7 mb MOST of the time i have red 1 wat is better red or green?
not quite sure, but green is better, but motorola couldnt figure out a way to make it work properly with this cpu, so defy-wise the red is better

Just picked up this thread - my images are around 500KB each, so I'd be on a green lens (in fact looking at the lens does prove this, just in case I preferred to do a simpler test). I've not had any issues with my camera though - what problems are there with the green lens?
There is no problem with the green lenses. The only issue is that for the moment (or maybe forever) you cannot apply a patch to record HD video (720p) which works only on red lenses. However 720p is not officially supported by this device so ...
Most of my pics are around 1.5mb but I have a few close to 1mb and none 2mb or higher. I think I must have the red lens

[email protected] video is supported by the green lens (ov5642), just look at the datasheet (or the iphone 4, which has the same sensor)! i dont know about the red sensor, havent figured out the exact type. btw, if you have green lens, you can improve camera quality (decrease compression, hence clearer images), and get about 1.5MB pictures too! Just read this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=966800
My lens is clear plastic, and the visible bit underneath the circle is black.
there is nothing coloured either red, green, yellow, or anything else.
I'm familiar with that thread but I'm not interested in patching the camera as I didn't buy Defy for his camera. For best results you should/could use a camera; even the cheapest will have better results than Defy. Now related to HD video mode maybe I should have mentioned that it is not supported officially by Motorola.
But most of the time we don't just carrying around digital camera. So with the Defy's 5mp camera is a good thing to have if there's sudden need to take beautiful naked lady on the run... So having it tuned (decreased compression to improve picture quality or some patching) should taking into consideration.
Throw in faster shutter and iso control and you can get a perfect naked lady on the run pic without motion blur

Yea, it would be awesome to have it. But I wouldn't ask more as my Defy already working the way I wanted it to..
* And I wouldn't be surprised if Motorola decided to push the next Defy2 or DefyHD with some kick-ass features.
Can someone explain... why are there two types of lens on the same defy..?? Is it a region specific thing..??

There is another thread which gathers statistics about green/red lenses:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103993
In general it looks as if the newer ones (bought since march ?) are mostly equipped with red lenses. But i would think that it depends on the distribution channel (country / provider ...).
does the red lens have the capability to record in 720p in RC0? If so, what is needed to do this?
I have HD setting on video mode but the record button does not work, any ideas?
Sent from my MB525 using XDA Premium App
CM7 here... On HD mode the screen goes black, and when i try to record, it crashs...
I think that i have a red lens...
I have done the update to 2.2 from Motorola. And now i must have the 720p option, but i don´t can change to that. The best record that i can do is in VGA. And i have red lens.
Probably its an improvement move from motorola to change from green lenses to red lenses, otherwise it would be the same.
As we know, red lenses supported 720p recording via flashing update patch and red lenses currently supported leak gingerbread 2.3.3. Red lenses also having higher picture captured size. Older Defy uses green lenses obviously having compatibility issues that pushes motorola to made the changes.
But I know our XDA Masters usually can sort out issues, so not worries...
