its a kernel issue verizon and htc are probably aware of it same thing happened to evo 4g

Strange. Mine was not accurate on froyo and cm7, but after installing gingersense it is accurate.

Who actually uses the compass? Are you a modern Bear Grylls? lol

I know you're just making a joke, but this bass-ackwards compass annoys me (rooted Froyo) when using Google Street View. You hold up your phone and you're walking backwards.

The OTA 2.3.3 fixes the compass.

It's assuming you're moonwalking. lol

This was very frustrating with the stock Rom using navigation. But its fixed only on the ginger sense Rom cm7 and miui its still borked.

Because my compass is still not working and I also don't have the NY Times bookmark showing up, I wonder if I should re-install Gingersense and this time wipe the data and cache since last time I did not. Do you think I should? If I do should I reinstall the baseband update?

The biggest difference is that CM6 runs Froyo and CM7 runs Gingerbread.
http://www.androidtapp.com/whats-new-in-gingerbread-android-2-3/
Pretty much all of this applies, except for the NFC thing. That is a hardware thing specific to the Nexus S. I'm not sure if the internet calling thing works, but the option is there in CM7.
As for differences in terms of bugs, CM7 seems a bit more stable in terms of battery consumption and "Android System" wake locks (though I might jinks myself for saying that). Also, there's a bit of a GPS bug in CM7. For GPS to work properly you might need to punch ##GPSCLRX# into the phone on a Sense-based rom. Doing that will clear the data on the GPS chip and somehow make the GPS work in CM7.
Other than that, it's pretty much the same. Most apps work just fine in gingerbread. CM7 has added a few features. There's support for themes, for one. Also, you can have an unlimited number of notification bar widgets now, since you can now scroll the widgets.
Just from personal experience, CM7 was much buggier than CM6... I had all sorts of FC'S and stuff, plus there's no GPS on CM7 and I use that a lot....
But there's also the possibility that my problems were a combination of the kernel/ROM/whatever since I didn't try different configs on CM7...
they're definitely both worth tryin... And CM7 had some really cool features.. It just wasn't worth it to me to stick with it

The biggest thing is that CM6 is Froyo [2.2] and CM7 is Gingerbread [2.3]. CM7 has a lot of new features [one people like is the tv off screen off animation] The keyboard is a lot nicer. Though CM7 is still in the nightly phase, without WiMax [4G] though you can install the rom for CM7 with WiMax [found in the development section], while CM6 is stable.

There is a fix for the gps issue. You flash a sense rom open dialer run ##gpsclrx# it resets your phone after resetting restore your cm7 rom and you have fully functioning gps. As for the FC's I've had no more problems there. Sure some apps may not have been updated with Gingerbread in mind but that's the apps problem usually not the rom.

Yes, I did the GPS fix and mine is working fine. Also, I haven't had a single FC yet on CM7 w/wimax.

You realize that CM7 is in Nightly-only stage, right? There's not even a release candidate? It doesn't even qualify as Beta software (though is a bit past Alpha). If you're getting FCs in an RC or Stable, then you have just cause to complain.

Your welcome..Im sure you had these APN's already in your billfold. *walks off into the sunset*
I love this rom...however, is there any way to make the gps more accurate? I have tried gps status, aid, etc. but they dont address my problem. I get a lock within about 5-6 seconds, but the accuracy never goes below ~26 feet. On cm7, stock, gorilla hd, and other roms, I always got 6 foot accuracy sometimes even 3.3. So is there any fix?

Agile Lock Your free cure for the Sense 3.0 lockscreen blues

There is a really nice fully working Sense 3.0 lockscreen app. There is a free version and a paid version ~1$ which is fully customizable (app shortcuts ecet).
http://www.appbrain.com/app/agile-lock-free/com.nanoha.SenseScreen
Try the free version it is same as paid except for the customization. Occasionally does take time for the lockscreen to show up. Not just the first time you load it as the author says but occasionally. Unless you are running MIUI it is the only real game in town. Hopefully if enough people support the author he will fix the lag on opening.
Just in case you haven't seen it yet in the market.

I wouldn't run this on my OG Droid. That phone seriously doesn't have any memory to spare for a lockscreen.
I never had any problems with my Inc 2 actually turning on with this running. I did have problems with the Agile Lock lockscreen itself showing up after turning on my phone. The Agile lockscreen would wait 2 seconds or so until I touched the screen then it would show up.
I decided to live a little and blew $1.32 on the paid version. There was an update yesterday on that version and it doesn't seem to have that delay to show up that I was talking about. I am not sure if it is completely gone but then again I didn't really any memory intensive programs like games today.
I am running a rooted debloated HTC Gingerbread rom and boy am I in heaven. This lockscreen is the only thing about the new 3.0 Sense I wanted. This app is really surprisingly well made.

Tired of cm7. What's next?

I love cm7 but it's GPS woes have brought me to the point where I need to switch roms. Can I get some recommendations?
World peace with no regard for human life.
You can try deck's which is a stripped version of CM7, that apparently has good gps. If you want sense, you can try the kinged shooter 3.0 rom, or you can locate a bliss 3.5 port.
MIUI give it a whirl!

I'm torn between MIUI and Decks. I hear MIUI is like iOS theme wise. And Decks has more RAM or what? Sense drives me nuts when everything has to reload when I open it back up due to low memory.

I'm not on my computer, but I have the GPS driver that will fix your gps issues immediately. No need to flash to a sense rom and clear your gps. PM if you want it. It's not the gps driver found in the CM7 thread post #2.

MIUI isn't like any theme, because there are an almost infinite way that you can mod and theme it with the built in theme manager.
Also, form something as simple as a built in scree nshot function, to the backup/restore utility, while other ROMs may LOOK nice, none are as functionally sound as MIUI.
It's AOSP, so you still have to do the GPS Fix. but the Sense GPS fix works 100% of the time

Just download the file above and flash. No need to clear the cache. Then boot and launch Navigation. It should pick up your location within seconds...You can also use this file (attached) if the one above doesn't work out. The one below I know for sure works.

If the fix does not work and I cant see it not working fyi - There is a thread in Development strictly related to GPS fixes as a matter of fact its called GPS fixes
The only way I was able to fix my gps was to flash a sense rom so I could use the ##CLRXGPS# code... it rebooted the device and then restored CM7 and got gps working again.

CyanogenMod 7 GPS Issues.

I'be been running cyanogenmod 7 on my Evo and have been experiencing GPS issues from the start. I turn on GPS and open Google maps and it rarely tracks my position correctly. So of course I can't really use the navigation app because of this. When I revert back to my stock rooted rom I don't have this issue. Is anyone else experiencing this problem? Is there a way to fix this?

Have you read any of the information about the rom? There are a few things, including the flashing sense rom ##gpsclrx# trick, but most of the time that only helps temporarily. If you want fully working gps, flash a rom other than cm7.
Wow I guess I really missed that point. And I guess videos I have seen incorrectly stated everything works.
