So I just installed the new Synergy ROM from Myn's Warm RLS4. I love it, but in addition, I was hoping that the new ROM would get rid of my slow home screen refresh. It doesn't happen all the time, but when it does, it is super annoying. Even if I go into the app drawer while the home screen is loading, the apps in the app drawer are loading as well.
After i flashed Synergy, the phone was incredibly snappy, due to its fresh wipe. After I used Titanium Backup to reload my apps + data and Launcher Pro to restore my homescreen the slow refresh came back.
I've hypothesized that it could be due to the amount of widgets on my home screen. However, this does not explain why the app drawer is also slow to load. Which leads me to believe that my 16gb class 2 MicroSD is the culprit since I've moved a majority of my apps to my SD card.
Will bumping up to a class 6+ help with my issue?
TIA
I've had the exact same problem from time to time. Also slow sometimes changing to landscape. I've got a Class 10 SD Card so don't waste your money on a new card. I'm hoping that it'll be fixed with the next release. Otherwise, the ROM has worked perfectly for me.

I have the Sprint HTC Arrive. Got it and the phone worked perfectly. Then after installing some apps, the home screen and apps menus would stutter when scrolling. So I hard reset the phone and it didn't go away. I went to Sprint and they agreed it was an issue so they replaced the phone.
With the new phone (which worked perfectly), I checked every menu after installing any new app. Everything was great until I installed POCKET RECORDER. As soon as I did that, the stutter came back. This time it's in my PEOPLE menu, pictures and web. Of course, I immediately uninstalled and hard reset. Well, the stutter is still there after that.
Anyone have any ideas on how to resolve or what it could be. It's a very annoying stutter. I am hoping I can resolve without an exchange again. Any help/comments would be appreciated.
Thanks.
I have the same problem,I own two HTC 7 PRO and one of them has the same problem - stutter when scrolling.
Either HR or Reflash do not help.
stuttering? how bad is it? and how are you scrolling?
i have an HTC HD7 and i do experience slight stutters when scrolling up and down the tiles(only noticed stutters when scrolling up and down the tiles). sometimes its scrolls smoothly and most of the time it stutters. i suspected as well that some apps make scrolling stutter yet im not that sure if there are apps that make scrolling a little laggy.
if compared with the page that shows all the apps, scrolling is much smoother than that of the start screen.
btw, i only have 24 tiles pinned on my start screen (just a run down of tiles. maybe somebody will be able to pinpoint which one is the culprit. i have settings, people, phone, messaging,xbox,zune,bible7, fs calculator, the weather channel, camera, me tile and 4 fave contacts tile, 2 email tiles, htc notes and notepad free, ie, marketplace, pictures and HTC hub)
Don't have any stutter and have pocket recorder installed. Never actually used the program though so just uninstalled as a precaution.

My guess is that this is due to the use of SD memory rather than NAND. The more you write to the SD the more you will notice "lag" when the OS has to re-read certain information.
Of course, this does not explain why it still lag's after a hard-reset, so I could be all wrong. I haven't come across it on my Omnia7 though, but did notice it on an early HD7 (this was part of why it went back to the store).
it's pretty noticeable. in some areas, it almost skips.

I dont have any of these programs installed. You may have to get it exchanged - that seems like the only fix.

I thought this too, however, when I got the second phone, I had the following loaded with NO Lag:
Attentive Phone
Birdsong
Compass
Directv
Facebook
Favorites Hub
Flashlight
Flixster
Forward Contacts
Homes
HTC Youtube
Last FM
Light Sword
Netflix
Notesly free
Seymour
Shazam
Shop Savvy
Star Comm
TA Maps
Yelp
GAMES
Avatar Gadgets
Fruit Ninja
Parachute Panic
Revolution
Rise of Glory
Extras
Chicks n Vixens
Moonlander
Simon Says
Spybot
Unite
Max and the Magic
ilomilo
BUT as soon as I loaded POCKET RECORDER, it started the stutter. My guess is the Pocket Recorder writes the the SD card in such a way that it causes some read issues. So even after an uninstall, the problem is still there.

Good plan. I would highly recommend not using that app! The stutter didn't happen until after I used the program once.
I have that problem on my HTC htd7. Makes sense if you have lotsof you sd card, but doesn't after a hard reset. I dunno do sd cards needs to be defrgmented? Could it be a hardware or software issue? Its starting to feel lke ms released wp7 way before it was ready.

Which phone do you have?
I have pocket recorder on my Omnia 7.
I'm pretty sure at some point in the past I have used the program.. I don't notice stuttering.
Any one else opened this program and not received lag / stuttering?
Let me address the stutter and NAND/SD Card issue.
The Lag in List Scrolling likely has absolutely nothing to do with the SD Card.
Lots of apps do not cache their data on the phone, so the issue is rarely from loading since the phone is downloading and loading that data into RAM, not to the storage. In some cases it may cache the data, but keep in mind that there are applications that actually store lots of data on the disk which do not lag when scrolling (horizontally or vertically). Stock apps do not display this, and most of them scroll (Calendar, for example, and I have a lot of stuff in mine) without any issues.
The issue I think is with the list control and how it functions.
Some people's phone may stutter, but the stuttering may be within their own personal "tolerance" limit so they don't think about it or notice. Some applications stutter a lot more than others, which leads me to believe it's a code issue.
NAND and SD Card are non-factor when an app downloads data from the internet to RAM and puts it in a list control to display on the screen. In many instances, the data those apps are loading into those lists aren't even touching the storage, nor is it even cached to storage.
Also, Windows Mobile Applications could be installed to SD Card, and even witih large lists most of those apps did not display this low level of performance... And that's running from a Class 2 SD Card on an HD2 (WM 6.5 Latest Stock ROM) with the entire application and all of its data cache installed to the SD Card.
If you can play Videos and Music off an SD Card, do you really think loading some data to display in a list control will make the phone lag? Really... Get serious about this, people...
The Storage Type is not the issue. The entire OS runs pretty good off of that SD card. There is something wrong with the list control, IMO... The Silverlight control, specifically (because I am starting to think Microsoft used more than enough Native Code in its stock applications).
A Web Browser with a large cache and caching almost every page you view scrolls flawlessly but a list in a twitter app that doesn't even cache data stutters? Seriously? It's the Storage Type's problem? Lol... No, it's not. And I've never seen any conclusive test to prove that (nor am I willing to perform my own, so take it with a grain of salt... it just makes absolutely no sense.. it's almost laughable...).
I've never experience any system-wide stuttering (I wonder if some of the SD cards are rubbish, in that case), but the list scrolling in WP7 is just unbearable. It causes ghosting and all kinds of effects on the screen that are neither bearable or ergonomic (leads to eye strain, headaches after prolonged use, etc. among other things).
I have to say I'm confused as to how an app could cause permanent problems to the phone. On a hard reset I think I am right in saying the internal storage will be completely wiped and re-written with the core OS data from the ROM?
And being ROM there is no way this can be affected without a flashing process... Unless you have some dodgy hardware/SD card and it is just a coincidence that this particular program was run when the problem appeared?
When my phone first boots up LP is non responsive until after a couple minutes, quickest work around is to go to task manager force close LP then it loads up fine. I'm on SRF 1.1.1 though it was happening on 1.1.0 as well. I do recall this not being an issue initially when i first went to SRF 1.1.0 (don't think its a rom issue). Wondering if there's a resolution out there, not the biggest problem but can get annoying. Also notice that my beautiful widget clock skin doesn't load until after LP becomes responsive (the widget loads fine but its the default skin at first).
i have same issue, just let the phone sit there for about a minute after it boots up. also try re-installing launcher pro. the new version of beautiful widgets takes a while to load the skin sometimes.
I have both of these (BW and Laun Pro) and it lags for me also.. I have noticed if I just keep pushing the home button.. it kind of kicks it in the butt and loads quicker.. or i'm very impatient.. leaning to the latter..
I've have just recently noticed some really bad lag and delays when taking photos and moving into the gallery from the camera to preview the photos. Is anyone else experiencing the same thing?
Let me know.
I have noticed this too. I just brushed it off as being touchwiz lag
I also have noticed this.
Yup. It's really annoying too since I don't think there's a way to set a time duration to see the photo you just took. It's either on permanently or not, so you have to exit the gallery to take a photo if you have preview on.

no lag to phone memory
I set all my camera and video to the phone memory and save everything else to the card
by chance is your settings to save to sd card? If it really annoys you, try saving to phone memory and move from camera to that, it is like a .2 second transition for me.

Mine was doing it before I even put in a memory card. Great thought though since phone memory should be faster.

I'm having the problem. I have also found other transitions are also slow, but that one is pretty regular.
I wonder if EVERYONE has this problem. I was going to claim a defect on this and get another one. If everyone sees this problem, then its obviously not a defect.

Yea I do have an SD card so maybe the photos are saving there. And when I press the preview button it is taking a while because it needs to access the SD card. Good thought.
It's the only lag that I've noticed on this phone, so far. Hopefully it'll be a software fix. It is kind of annoying.
This lag is driving me crazy...does anyone NOT have it?
Lag here as well...
It is pretty bad on my phone. Appears less like lag, and more like just freezing up. It eventually starts working again, but it just sits there for a while. Annoying.
Same here. Wonder if the new update fixes it.

Nope. For me anyway...
I experience lag going to the gallery from the camera app as well.
Sometimes it's lag. Other times it freezes the phone.
This happens with and without an SDcard installed.
This, the Recent Apps lag, along with other hiccups is making me not want to purchase another Samsung phone.
same lag here
glad to see it's not just me but also more disappointed that this is an issue I am sure they already knew about, before the update to 5.0, using unlocked att version so an ota will not work for me, it will have to manually installed. hoping to see something soon, since the camera is one of the biggest reasons I chose this device. my estimate is that we will not see anything to fix this, from either samsung or att.
On mine it takes about a second to switch. I don't call it lag. How long does it take on yall's.
It might be because I have a Developer Edition and had to flash the Lollipop update and kernel myself instead of taking the OTA.
My phone is now good two years old. It doesn't show its age externally which is why I'm not exactly jumping to replace it, but it does have some "internal" issues.
Recently it became quite jerky & unresponsive. This shows in apps just not snapping in, animations tear & crack all over the place and, well, it's just not smooth. Actually, this is so bad that it's even hard to answer the phone because it just doesn't detect the swipe, so sometimes it takes a second or even third try.
So I decided to go from CM based ROM to a stock based ROM. Made a flash, a factory reset and rebooted the thing. My next step is to restore my apps with titanium backup, so I install it from Play Store, install the Pro key and then restore all the apps (some 40 of them). I'm not sure if this plays much of a role because even if I don't use TiBu to restore, the same thing happens anyway.
At first, everything was smooth again. But in a matter of hours, the phone was jerky again. This came as a bit of surprise as normally it takes around a week (but it always becomes jerky). I swear I'm not doing anything taxing with the phone. I uninstalled all the apps that I thought might be causing this, but nothing had any effect. I'll now go back to the CM based ROM because it suits me better in some aspects, but I've just about had it with all this unresponsiveness.
Is there any way for me to detect what it is that's causing these hiccups? Is there a rational explanation for my woes?
Try to reboot in safe mode and see if it becomes jerky again after one or two days...or hours.
If it becomes then is a hardware problem.
If not try a full wipe install your fav apps but don't restore any data.
Do you have an SD card in your phone by any chance? This phone suffers from slow SD cards. I have a Kingston SD Class 4 card and the Gallery, Messenger, and some apps just start freezing and being unresponsive. Ordered a Class 10 UHS-I Samsung SD Card......lets hope it works better. The phone is super quick when not using an SD card on stock 6.0
Thanks for the suggestions. Since I don't have an SD card in, I'll attempt a safe mode probe to see if it helps.
after using this phone for 3 months, here are the problems I have found.
After every reboot, sorting of images in my gallery change. Most recent pictures and on top. they just get mixed and match. I use a SanDisk SD card. nothing is in order, I mean nothing. This is the thing I hate the most.
Gallery app updates itself pretty slowly, after taking a photo, it takes about 4 minutes to find that pic. in twitter app.

GPS is not a mess, it is mostly a punishment by a higher being. cursor flips other sides, it requires calibration all the time, when I turn right, it turns to left or doesn't even move. Sometimes it works, sometimes it works backward. This GPS losing me time every single day. Shame on you Xiaomi

it takes I'm not kidding, 10 minutes for my phone to load 200GB SanDisk card with 60gb data in it.
To boot the phone back from a reboot, I need to take the sim tray off, otherwise, the home-screen doesn't show up, I just see my wallpaper for 5 minutes. Even though the app I'm going to lunch is stored internally (let's say twitter) I cannot launch it before the sd card loads completely.

video recording option on the main camera app makes the phone freeze and brick. Yeah, just wanting to record a video bricked my one once. it was awesome. Had to format everything and start over.

Backspace key lags, sometimes doesn't recognize when typing fast. Not sure why, it is very odd.
