New SD card after root?
bump for an answer...
I have a 8gb sd card in my Inspire and was wondering if i get a 32gb sd card, can i just transfer my stuff over to the new card and pop it in the phone with no ill effect?
Will it unroot my phone?
I would think it wouldnt cause that should be internal memory, right?
I just want to make sure, Thanks.

No, it will not unroot your phone. Here's how I know:
I originally had a 2 GB memory card that came with my Infuse. I used it for a few days until my 16 GB memory card came in the mail. When I get my brand new 16GB, I formatted it (in the phone) then clicked and dragged all my files to that card. The phone functioned the same way as it did when it had the 2 GB card.
I'm running Infused v2 on my rooted Infuse 2.2.
Hope this helps!

Swapping Micro SD on Evo

Hey guys i just received my 32gb micro sd memory card for my evo i have it fully rooted with nand unlocked.. Seeing how i have all the things on my stock sd card what steps do i have to take to make sure when i put in my new memory card that everything is running the same and i just have more memory for storage. In other words should i just copy all the content from the old micro to the new one and just put it in?
Thanks in advanced if someone can help please.
Just back up everything from the old one onto your computer and drag and drop everything onto the new one. If your old one is partitioned make sure you do that to the new one first and do an NAND+ext backup with the old sd card.
yep just copy everything over and all will be well, I copied the sd card contents to my computer then removed 8g and put 32g in the evo, connected the evo and dragged and dropped everything but the lost file from the computer backup on to the evo that way i had 2 backups.
It wouldn't hurt to do the paper trick too. It would certainly ruin your day if 32gb got corrupted somehow. I'm not saying anything, I'm just sayin.

I was new once also and have asked some DUMB questions so ill follow his comment wish a reason. Root does not store on your SD card its all internal memory files. Only hand SD had in the root was flashing zip files from the card in the internal memory
I appreciate you being helpful and nice about it I no I'm a noob just didn't want to mess my phone up and after thinking about it I just pulled it and everything was fine.

I actually have a question regarding this.
I want to upgrade to a 16gb sd card and was wondering if there is a thread showing step by step instructions to do so.
I'm rooted and have a couple roms backed up along with titanium backing up my apps.
Do I really have to format the new sd card to fat 32? the 2gb sd card that came with it seems to work fine which I believe isn't formatted fat 32.
Is it really as easy as copying and pasting over??? I did not partition the sd card.
Also, after searching the forums I ran into a concerning thread regarding sd cards that DON'T work.... should I be worried?

If you want to transfer your files from the 2gb sd card to the 32 gb sd card just copy all files to the 32 gb sd card. Be sure to format the 32 gb sd to FAT32. I dont know how you didnt have to format your other card to fat32 unless you havent turned s-off. But anyways to format it to fat32 just plug in phone to computer( make sure you put phone on disk drive not charge only) and open "My computer"(shows all your drives ex. C:, D:, ect.) Right click on the drive that is your sd card and choose format. Make sure its in FAT32 and click format. You can do quick format too. Hope this helps

Thanks for the clarification. I was thinking it was a lot harder than just copying over the files.
I have S-Off and I am pretty sure it's not formatted FAT32. I just checked the properties and it just says "FAT" and if I go to format it the selection at default shows "FAT" as well. But if standard procedure is to format to FAT32 I will on my next sd card.

[Q] 16 gig SD card not mounting on DINC running KANG Pons CM7.2

First of all, this ROM is pretty good overall and is very fast (even though it is a nightly)
Does anyone have a suggestion to get a 16 gig card mounted? My 8 gig has been fine, and I have read elsewhere that the 16 gb card should work on my droid incredible phone.
any assistance is appreciated.
John
Try formating it fat32 with a pc before trying it in the phone. A 16gig should work fine, as the specs for our phone state that it can handle up to a 32gig.
I have a 32gb card runs fine. I would agree format the card on the computer.

thanks for the advice. i have already formatted on my macbook pro. I'll try to find another method, maybe that will work.
I got it. all I needed to do was reboot with the sd card in the slot. thanks

Just an fyi you should never remove or insert the sdcard while the phone is on. It can cause data corruption and bad unrecoverable sectors on your sdcard.

[Q] Replacing Current 8GB SD Card

Hi guys!
I have a question about using SD Cards.
I'm currently using the 8GB SD Card that came with the phone, but after awhile, the space just seems insufficient.
If i buy a new 16GB or 32GB SD Card, can i just copy everything over to the new SD Card and use it as per normal? Will it affect any of my rooting capabilities or activities (e.g. Making nandroids, restoring nandroids)
Use it as normal. I backup SD card to PC. Transfer what I want to new card.

The Guys Are Right
And if you gonna buy a new card try to get a higher class card like 10 witch is the fastest one ....
The transfer will be alot faster ...

Root/SD Question

Hey guys I ordered a 64gb microsd card for my tab s and when I opened it last night, I accidently crack the sd card in half :crying: Long story short I want to root my tab s asap but my sd card replacement wont come for another 2 weeks so should I wait for it to arrive then root? Or should I just go ahead then when my card comes just transfer everything to the sd card. If someone could give me some insight that would be great.
Doesn't really matter, root gives you a bunch of privileges like running titanium backup but using an SD card or not is a non issue.

What are you trying to do?
Root doesn't need an SD card. (I assume you are using cf-autoroot). You run that using ODIN. (I just ran it tonight but my SD card is installed, and I'm also still running NF9 firmware)
When you get your SD card, mount/format it if it needs it. Copy anything you want to your SD Card. An SD card is just storage.
Is there something I'm am missing that would make it more complicated than that?
