I listen almost 3-6 hours music on my phone per day. But everytime I start another app, e.g. navigation/dolphin HD music stops even using alternatives(poweramp,mixzing). When using stock browser and listening to music the browser is killed. I've heard that this it because of gingebread killing apps intensively, when starting my device i've around 130MB free ram. My rom is InsertCoin nightly v51. I don't want to change rom because is like rosie 3.0 a lot and it's very smooth as well, any app to lock apps into memory or like that?
or any other solution?
Do you use Advanced Task killer or any such task management software? If yes, add the music or browser apps to "ignore list". Then the apps will not be killed.
Did that, same problem, after that I uninstalled every taskmanaging app. Still same problem? Isn't there an app which locks apps into the memory?

I keep getting notifications that my internal storage is low, so I've been having to uninstall apps that I really don't want to get rid of.
I was also quite suprised that I'd managed to fill up the 120(?) or so MB of space, so I thought I would total the space taken up by the apps I have installed.
The total space taken up by my apps ~66.61MB
Available space - 15.35MB
Which makes a not so grand total of 81.96MB
What else is stored on the internal memory that is taking up around 40MB of space? Is 82ish MB in line with everyone else?
Oh and here's a list of my apps:
Mystique Chapter 3
Asphalt
ProjectInf
Replica Island
HTC_IME mod
Guitar Hero World Tour
Maps
Voice Search
Papaya Farm
ASTRO
WebSharing
Defnd Homeland
Robo Defense
Raging Thunder 2
Shoot U!
SpacePhysics
Facebook
ShopSavvy
Movies
Flikie Wallpapers
FotMob 2009
TubeDroid
Gallery
Last.fm
Exzeus
Gentle Alarm
Foursquare
Remote Desktop
Gmote
beebPlayer
Shazam
Advanced Task Manager
Music Junk
Record It
AppBrain Market Sync
Seeds of Life 2
MusicSleep
Uninstaller
Album Art Grabber
try deleting al your caches and emails (esp) with attachments.
Then reboot phone
Oh and you don't need task managers / killers.
Your games will take up space also.
I'll try that and see what difference it makes.
Whoops! Yeh task killers still there from my G1. Takes up very little space anyway.
What extra space yould the games take? Saved games can't be much at all surely
I deleted the cache etc and it's gone up to 16.04mb available :/
Do a reboot, should help
Finally installed cm7 but I have a few questions...
Q1. Is the adw launcher the normal version or the ex version?
Q2. Can I uninstall adw if I have another launcher installed?
Q3. I don't see the system recovery(bootstrap) or 2ndinit apps in the app drawer and even titanium backup shows that they are not installed...so should I reinstall them or is it already built into cm7( since I am able to see the option of boot into recovery when I try to reboot)
Q4. Is it safe to replace the cm7 music player with the stock connected music player? ( I want to replace it as the cm7 music player does not show lyrics of the songs I'm playing...
Thanks in advance....other than the music player I'm loving cm7...I got an 80% increase in quadrant score

Q1 - It's not the EX version but I believe it's a tweaked normal version for CM.
Q2 - Yes I believe you can but make sure you have another launcher installed first.
Q3 - No do not reinstall 2nd init or custom recovery - you won't have an app icon for them as they are accessed via the bootmenu blue led.
Q4 - Sorry don't know as I don't use music apps.
1.what's the difference?
2.yes
3.No 2nd unit doesn't require the app in the menu to work since its installed into the system.
4.You can try, I don't see a reason why it wont make sure to set the permissions correctly after replacing.

I have both apps installed, reason I'm keeping stock CM music app is because in my opinion the sound quality is a bit better than in CMP. But I want lyrics sometimes so I've kept both apps. You can remove the default CM7 player or just make CMP the default app to open musiic.
The FM Radio also works well in CMP, it i s a pretty good music player, even POwerAMP isn't needed (or worth it) in comparison.
I froze the cm 7 music app as I didn't notice any difference in sound quality and everything is working fine

Just curious since I Keep flashing Roms what is useful to install that most people use on a daily Basis.
All start it off with what I use often.
* Dolphin Browser
* Titanium Backup
* XDA app.
* Astro File Manager
* Quickoffice
* Shazam
* DiskUsage
* MX Player, Codecs
* Beautiful Widgets
* Google Maps, Streetview
* Google Search
* Google+
* My Account (from Rogers to track Usage Data texts etc.)
* BattleNet Authenticator (For D3)
That's Just about everything I install after I do a fresh Rom Install. Used to install the Facebook app but I find that always runs in the background sucking battery and now I use Facebook via Dolphin. I also install Dropbox but have not yet. It also sucks alot of juice constantly updating my pics with online which is something I like but don't like the battery drain.
I use
No frill CPU (its for rooted uses)
Titanium backup
Root explorer
minecraft mobile admin (I have a server very useful)
I use advanced task killer but I heard its not good to have
Droid vpn (root)

Daily use apps include:
1. Audio: Cycle between Audible, Poweramp, Winamp, doubleTwist and jetAudio.
2. Evernote
3. WhatsApp
4. IM+ Pro
5. Gmail
6. TwitPlay
7. TuneIn Radio Pro
On daily basis, I use:
Gmail... K9 Mail would be cooler if it only allowed searches over the server. To my knowledge, only Gmail offers that.
Note Everything: by far the best note taking app I have found on Android. Its only shortcoming is syncing, it uses a separate app which imports/exports documents with Google Docs. Not as good as Evernote in this regard, but much better in every other way.
Widgetlocker: proud to have paid to this app.
Canabalt HD: finally ported from the iPhone, the game really deserves to be played, it's lot of fun for the go.
Swiftkey X: I keep it on even when using the hardware keyboard (ie, most of the time): it improves typing precision and I like suggestions to show up, especially when I type in English. I have obviously disabled auto-completion.
Neutron MP: wonderful music player. It was very heavy on my single core Droid 2 Global, now it's just perfect and smooth. The interface is 10 times better than Poweramp in my opinion. The audio algorhytm does something, during resampling music to 32 bit, to make music sound its best on our devices. To me the Samsung Captivate Glide sounds very good and it's much much better than the Motorola, which sounded so-so even with Neutron.... The Captivate Glide + Neutron convinced me to buy a 64 GB sdxc card today: it will be my portable music player, no need for a separate device. Using it with Audio Technica AD2000 headphones in a park, right now.
Opera Mobile: I have frozen the stock browser to keep this one only.
Titanium Backup: to freeze apps.
Osi rom: I like it very much and it's not strongly themed.
Sony Xperia S launcher: very elegant, clean and quick. Its Icon pack is also a bit better than the stock one.
The file browser coming with Osimod is really wonderful, it won me over my former favourite, Root Browser.
This is not a daily, but:
Tiger Arcade emulator: I will have to try to play Street Fighter III Third Strike with it.
Hey guys, I wanted to suggest a launcher that's really wonderful: "ssLauncher the original". It makes Android something else. I am using it on daily basis. I will probably try TSF Shell at some point (as soon as their long awaited 1.5 release comes out), to see which one I like more.
I have a problem with Google Play Music app. When I'm listening music and go to home or any other app and I come back to the music app it doesn't show the album picture nor the minute of the playing song.
Also sometimes it also stops playing music and the lockscreen widget starts blinking
I have this issue too but it doesn't bother me as much. For the alb um cover simply hit the back button and you're good to go. For the lockscreen flashing, turn off the display and turn it back on.
Yes, these issues are easily solved unlocking the device and that's all. But I think is something related with 4.2.1, I don't remember these issues with 4.1.2..
Am I the only one that sees glitches EVERYWHERE in the Google Play Music app? For an example, clicking on the Search button, the search icon stays at he same place, when the second search icon reaches the left side of the search area, the right search icon then disappears. did I mention how laggy the animation is?
Clicking on the Thumbs up button has like 2 FPS animation.
Navigating the lists, for an example from albums to playlists is glitchy.
Browsing somewhere then clicking on a song to play it basically is so glitchy and slow that it hurts my eyes.
I didn't notice the issue with the search icon before, but now I've seen it lol. The app in general is extremely laggy even here on Gnex. I don't have to mention how it was in my previous Xperia Neo...
I'm experiencing the same since 4.2.1, music stops randomly (not only on google music, poweramp and musicxmatch also) and the lockscreen widgets blinks
There are so many small things in the Google Play music, that it makes me believe that Google doesn't even use it themselves. Like Mark Zuckerberg forced his employees to use their Android app to realize how bad it was.
How the heck can a music player (which isn't a rocket science like simulation or an emulator or a game like Shadowgun) to lag in the UI? Every single animation in the app is laggy. Literally. Please, i dare you to find somewhere in the app that isn't glitchy. If I worked at Google, I couldn't sleep at night because I have shipped this app in this state to the Play store.
Did I mention the UI and the background? What's up with that blueish thingy that is the wallpaper. Looks so amateurish.
Also did I mention the fade in animation when you scroll down or up in lists like Recent or albums? Why put this transition effect even if it severely downgrades the performance? Just try to scroll when you have a lot of music. A nightmare.
I have started to realize that Google is treating us Nexus owners like labrats. Sad truth.
Just look at the Android 4.2 update. Not a word from Google about all these problems, that probably affected all the Galaxy nexus owners. Not a single word to Google's most loyal customers.
The truth is that 4.2 came with several new things but is not optimized and is very laggy. I had to flash CM10.1 because the stock rom wich always worked smoothly started freezing suddenly. It came to the point when something so simple like writting with the keyboard froze the phone for a while.
The best version i've seen on our phones is the 4.1.2 and i doubt Google will make it better.

It happens to me too. Have you installed custom music player like cm9 music player or apollo music player?
It happened to me on stock 4.2.1 and now also on CM 10.1 (wich includes Apollo)

I get those same issues when I use CM9 Music player and I don't mean the apollo.
So that's why I use all the time CM9 music player..
If you delete every custom music player including apollo player and then wipe cache and dalvik cache. Then Google play music player will work without any issues..

I am not seeing any issues with the google Music app other than what the OP is describing. mine doesn't lag when scrolling long lists or loading album art. i was scrolling as fast as possible and the album art was keeping right up with me. also no slow/buggy animations anywhere. maybe your app needs the data cleared or something?
as for the blue background.....yes, this needs to be updated for sure. the music app needs to be re-done ASAP to the more holo style....google themselves provided guidelines for designing apps, why not use them on their own apps?

Could you please record your phone and showing off Google Music? I want to know how your animations are.
Do we know if this is a problem with CM specifically or simply the GMusic app being buggy? I have significant issues on my Gnex with Google Play Music, lots of freezing, problems with widgets not responding, and even flickering on the lock screen.
Whenever I'm listening to music, my Viper 4 AndroidFX app closes automatically even though around 250mb free RAM is always available on my device. I use CM 11 and N7 player. But I'm facing the same problem with other ROM's and music players aa well.
Isn't there a way to keep Viper 4 AndroidFX always in memory?
Kindly help. Thanks.
You can,however use Greenify to end more unnecessary apps running in background.Mine free RAM is about 390 MB on CM11 R22.
