Q. Setting what an app is allowed to hook into (more info inside) - Verizon Droid Incredible 2

I downloaded ES File Explorer, and now when I want to send an MMS and go to add an attachment, my phone asks me if I want to add it via File Explorer or Gallery. I will never send an MMS using File Explorer. How do I make it so File Explorer can't hook into that? I always want to open Gallery when I want to send an MMS.

Get file expert and unistall es way better

I know for most times that happens, there is a check box at the bottom for "use this by default" so if it has that, check it. If it doesn't, you'll just have to deal with it.

When it prompts, check the checkbox before selecting Gallery. This will make it always use the Gallery.

No checkbox is available to check unfortunately.

or get BUMP from the market
Depending on what file manager you use some have options to send via bluetooth and some don't. I use "Root Explorer" and it has an option to send via bluetooth. Once the phones paired I can send just about anything including apk files.
Thanks imma try all those options

You can upload to dropbox from the pc via their upload tool (select upload and navigate to file).
Via Android app on your phone: Menu / Upload / select file type and proceed accordingly....

I understand from the pc. From the phone, when I do Menu / upload/ I don't have an option for selecting an .apk. I don't have a file browser/search option.
That's my question.
you can transfer apps between phones using bump. Bump doesn't have this feature on iPhone, but it does on Android. I transfered a few games and Swype to my wifes phone using bump.

[Q] Apps/widgets installed on phone

Just want to know where the .apk files are kept on the phone because I want to manually back up so I don't need to download everytime I do a reset. I also want to keep them on my PC.
I've searched all the folders but could not find them. Are they hidden?
Try using a file manager such as Astro or ES file explorer. They have the ability to save an app to an apk.

How to download .zip files from gmail?

I've received a couple of emails from a friend that has a .zip file attached. However, when viewing the email, the .zip file has "info" next to it......when I tap that, it says "Unfortunately, you can't save or open this type of attachment." I've have AndroZip app installed.....so what else do I need to do to be able to download this file type? Other files, such as pdf's and doc's give me the option to save, preview, view.
From the Play Store download
Download all files app by MDJ Software.
Already have that installed.

Dang, I have always used that app for that but you're right, I just tried it and got the same thing as you.
I bet gmail does that because it thinks all zip files are malicious.
There are a few different apps on the market (Play Store) for doing this but I can't find one that has been updated to work with ICS.
Google really needs to build this into the Gmail.apk
Boat Browser or any Browser that you can change your UA to desktop, then go to gmail.com

You need to run a file explorer app such as ES File Explorer that gives you the option to show hidden files. Then they can be located in /sdcard/.samsungvideohub/contents/
They are encrypted and unplayable by any software other than the Samsung video app to my knowledge.

Also the stock browser can do this: menu - settings - show hidden file.

[Q] Permanently change a file type for an extension so it can be set to Open As txt

I have some Windows WordPad text files that cannot be opened by an OfficeSuite app on my phone unless I tap and hold on a .wri file > check one .wri file > More > Open As > Text > OfficeSuite and CHECK Set as the default app.
Then it works but only once.
Next time I try, OfficeSuite launches but is unable to read it.
How can I permanently set an extension to Open As > Text
That depends on the file manager. You could try opening it with a text editor and then save it as a .txt file maybe...?

Thank you for posting.
I obviously can open the file by simply doing Open As > txt > and opening it with OfficeSuite.
So saving it as txt is unnecessary.
The question is about setting Android to open *every* file with .wri extension as a text.
When I tap on a .wri file it _does_ open by OfficeSuite but it says that it is corrupted. I am assuming that somehow the program is not opening it AS A TEXT FILE, I think it is opening it as something else - resulting in error.
So IF the Open As > Text works... how can I set that file extension to ALWAYS be opened as txt by OfficeSuite (a specific program which opens Microsoft Word files). This really is a Microsoft Word file created in Wordpad, not a simple text file.

If it is not a text file then upping it as text will not work.

All right. Let's rephrase the question.
1. File created in WordPad with a .wri extension. (Old versions of Windows had WordPad save files in .wri extension.)
2. I tap on a .wri file, OfficeSuite (app made by mobisystems) says it is a Corrupt File.
OfficeSuite routinely opens modern .doc and .docx Microsoft Word files so that was strange.
So I try Open As > Text and IT WORKS! OfficeSuite opens it just fine.
So how do I make it always open .wri files by just taping on a .wri file and not going through the Open As Text process? That is the thread question.

Ok, that names more sense. Sorry if I misinterpreted your question [emoji6] . Are you opening the file through OfficeSuite or through a file manager?

Once again, thanks for your time.
I prefer using ES File xplorer.
You gave me an idea so I tried opening it through Galaxy S2 default OS drawer My Files.
It says "Unable to find application to perform this action.
So I'd like to assign it for default opening and also preferably for ES File Explorer - the problem as described above was through ES File Explorer.
That is something the dev of es file explorer would have to add.

OK. How then would the native file explorer be made to open a file with a specific program after it says that it can't open a file but offering no options to choose a program to open it with?
Different file managers have different features.

Since this is a T-Mobile Galaxy S2 forum, how about the native file manager?
How would you assign an extension to a program on default Galaxy S2?
How about posting the answer for *any* file manager?

The application Root Browser will always open as what you select if you click always use this app. This should then open any file with that extension with office suite.
