[Q] Restore DHD to stock for warranty? - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've got my DHD fully unlocked by following a guide in the Android Development section, and I now need to return it to claim warranty, as the vibrate function has stopped working.
Is this even possible, and if so, is there any simple way to do it?

Please use the search function next time. You'd be able to find stuff like this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1165396

[Q] Unrevoked 3 with Full nand Questions/Concerns

First off, YES I have read a ton of posts about some of this, and YES I am a complete noob when it comes to rooting, and YES I am prepared to suffer the flames I may get for asking such inane things...that being said:
I have an EVO that I want to fully root. I use a mac (even read the mac root tutorial on another site...), and am now hearing about Unrevoked 3, and how wonderful/horrible it is. Here are my questions:
If I fully root with unrevoked 3, is there a way to go BACK to the original system that came with my phone? The reason I ask is so many threads hint at a "no turning back" kind of vibe.
Two: if I were to root in the classic sense (you know, the one that appears to a noob such as myself to performing brain surgery), would that allow me to go back to the original HTC system?
I have hacked my mac for years, I used to think I was fearless, but after reading so many posts on subjects like this, I have been terrified to even begin. So any of you Gurus out there that can offer any advice, I would be eternally grateful for it.
Thanks...!
1.- Yes, you can reenable S-ON, you'll need to flash a RUU (official EVO FW) afterwards, after this your phone will be back to stock.
2.- ??? You can root the current HTC FW Sense OR switch to another one if you wish. If you need to go back refer to #1
The RUU is the generally accepted method, however, there is an infamous error of the bootloader not responding to it.
The next method, and the one I used, is over in the Android Development section, probably buried under a couple pages. The thread title is "[GUIDE] How to Unroot the EVO in 2 STEPS" and the author is djR3Z.
I guess this account is too new, and the spam control settings are still in place, so I can't, or at least don't know how, to link to it.
Edit: Also can't edit a post unless I wait 5 minutes. Fun.
Thank you both very much. I will be rooting my phone asap, now.
You should be fine, it takes a lot of effort to really brick a phone. As long as you don't flash only stuff meant for the Evo and you don't interrupt it while anything is flashing you should be good. Unless you lose your account information, which most of the time doesn't get touched, it's pretty simple to return it to stock.
Also, if you have a new phone that says it is hardware version 004 Unrevoked 3 wont work for you. You'll need to follow the instruction found here.

[Q] unroot?

Please before you ***** and complain about there already being massive amounts for threads for this please listen: I am currently on my play and it wont let me view or try to even search and yes I can go check Google but the reason for this thread topic is, correct me if I'm wrong, but "questions and answers" but I need to know either a link or a simple answer of how to unroot my xperia play 4g I used zerg and its on 2.3.3 but I am having problems "ghost" problems with it and I am going to take it back and hopefully get it replaced it did it the first week I had it and its been three weeks waiting for the update but I'm going to just take it back so please again an easy way to unroot? And it is not an unlocked bootloader either.
gingerbreak has an un-root function. I think the zergrush thread had a different way of doing it as well.
Also, rooting shouldn't void your warranty. Afaik only unlocking the bootloader does, so you may not need to unroot anyway unless the carrier has their own policy regarding rooted phones.

Well I'm taking it back to a US att and I didn't want to take the chance but I might call them and ask them if I can exchange it without having to pay for the restocking fee... see I bought it up front for 425 but I am in a contract with them I don't have insureance but I also only got it on November 8th so it hasn't been a month and my friend got one from att and it works perfect-ish
The first page of the zergrush thread has an unroot script
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1312859
Delete su from /system/xbin/ then delete superuser.apk from /system/app/ reboot and your unrooted.

By "ghosting" do mean a yellowish trail left behind? like when your swiping up and down or playing a game like the impossible game you see a hint of yellow behind the square?

[Q] Noob Rooting Questions/Help

Ok so I'm completely new to android and I'm thinking about rooting my Nitro. But I do have a few questions:
-What is the possibility of bricking my phone? (only rooting, no flashing roms etc...)
-How do I back-up my phone? (If I'm fine with factory reset, is it still recommended?)
-Do I void my warranty by doing this? (Could I "un-root" if I have problems and make a claim on my warranty (warranty is generic LG one that comes with phone)
-What advantages to I gain by rooting? (I know root access, but I mean like real world application)
*Thank you to anyone who helps me out!
I'm new to Android as well and was able to flash my Nitro fairly easily. I downloaded SuperOneClick and the LG drivers and that was about it. I wish I could link you to everything, but with a bit of reading here in the Nitro forum you should figure it out.
I've found that all the guys here are very helpful, so after searching and reading just ask what you need to and you'll get your answers.
As for benefits of rooting... I think the biggest benefit is a custom ROM. I haven't done that yet cause I haven't done enough reading on it. I do, however, thoroughly enjoy being able to move files around on my phone as opposed to my iphone limiting my every move.
SuperOneClick and the LG drivers worked for me...
You can root and unroot with SuperOneClick.
As long as you follow directions you should not be able to brick the thing during the rooting process.
After rooting you have to know what you are doing modifications so read up...

[Q] Are there any downsides to rooting ?

Hi all, I've done a fair bit of searching and reading up but not sure I can find definitive answers to whether there are any downsides to rooting my One X.
I am thinking similar to tethered jailbreaks in the iOS world, where if you run out of juice you have to cable up to get it to boot up etc.
I would like to root, so I have the freedom to use a few of the tweaks and mods on xda (such as the tweak to change the default - read too high - auto brightness levels), not sure I will actually replace my entire rom at this stage, just root so I can use some of these minor tweaks.
so, is there anything that I need to genuinely consider before making the leap, some specific questions that spring to mind are;
1. Can I always easily revert it ?
2. Read some posts where people are struggling to charge once it hits 0% ? Is this an actual problem if I just root ? I do not want to brick a phone or have to prize open the case to take batteries out etc
3. If I chose to replace ROM's in the future, are there actual apps that more or less backup all your apps and settings so you can just reload that one app after a new ROM is installed, restore a backup and I am good to go, or do you have to manually setup everything from scratch again ?
Thanks for any advice you guys can offer.

The only downside to rooting is you get hooked on flashing. It's very easy to get back to stock. As long as you have proper RUU for your region that goes with your CID and all is fine.
At present, the only rooting method involves unlocking the bootloader. It can be locked again. But it's 'relocked' rather than 'locked'. So your warranty is still void in some cases.
I'm waiting for root method which doesn't require an unlocked bootloader. Or non HTCDEV Unlocked bootloader and S-OFF before I do mine, but that's just me

HTC will only refuse your warranty if you balls up your phone as a result of flashing roms. Everything else such as hardware defects will leave the warranty in tact.

Booter Locked, 4.1.4, What are my options?

im sorry for any double threading. im just so lost on this Experia Ion and was hoping someone can point me in the right direction from where i stand with it.
1. Its locked. is there a way to unlock it even though it says Bootloader Unlocked: NO ?
2. what can i do to get any custom rom on it while the bootloader is locked or is that even possible?
3. if that isnt possible, is there a way to get a better firmware version than 4.0.4?
yes i have flashtool working with drivers i already reloaded 4.0.4 stock on it.
main reason im even wondering about any of this, is because when i make calls the MIC on it is muffled horribly. ive read the forums about the Mic rubber Gasket piece so thats my next step. but im wanting to try a newer firmware (hopefully custom) before taking the phone apart . as stated im sorry for double thread posting if there was an answer already, ive been searching for days on the threads and ahvent found much on my questions, but i did attempt my best to answer them myself before ending up here.
There is no way to unlock the bootloader if it is set to unlock = no as far as i am aware.
My only suggestion is to use a custom rom that is based on Stock and works for locked bootloaders. Any of the ROMs in the development section that are marked as LB in the title (for your phone) will work. Full instructions are there. You will need to root and install recovery to install.
Futher info on rooting is here if you haven't already done it.
thank you so much, im so used to samsungs yknow? methods are definitely different with the xperias. thanks for the direction point. i just rooted and setting up recovery i hope this thread helps others who are lost as well
