Just wondering if it's the same process. I couldn't find a thread that explicitly stated this..
Yes, go into recovery and select to install a zipped file from the sdcard.
just wipe cache & dalvic before kernel
Inc
You can also do it from Rom Manager, just like a rom.
Alright, thanks guys.

Hello XDA'ers!,
[Already used search function btw].
There are a few things a need some answer for.
Some info:
After having the official gingerbread update from HTC I used Revolutionary
TO s-off and root (with some zip file) my phone. Now my phone has Cynanogenmod 7. If im correct the recovery i have is: Revolutionary CWM v4.0.1.4.
Now here are the questions:
1: I want to install MIUI, what do i have to do in recovery before installing this rom. Do I have to do something like clear cache or wipe data or something? + Where can i find the official MIUI roms? THere are different websites.
2: I have the Revolutionary Recovery and Rom Manager says i have to flash clockworkmod recovery before i can search for roms etc. Is it worth it to install it over the revo recov?
1) Before flashing ANY new rom it's always best to do a nandroid backup in case something goes wrong (you can restore to how it was when you made your backup).
Before you flash the rom you've chosen you should do the three wipes... In recovery "wipe data/factory reset", "wipe cache partition", "advanced/wipe dalvik cache".
Install your new rom... "install zip from sd card", "choose zip from sd card".
2) The (seemingly) most popular miui rom here is this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=957291.
Download the version you require and place onto your sd card. Then go to step 1 above.
3) Most people would recommend not using rom manager, but the choice is yours. Flashing the newest cwm recovery will make no difference really to when you wanna flash a rom.
Hey Zedmarcus,
thank you so much for your response!
Really helped a lot.
No problem. Helping and sharing is what it's about
If it helps, hit the thanks
What's up guys? I been flashing roms for a while now, and I have yet to flash a kernel. I wanna flash this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1421704
I'm not sure what steps I have to do to successfully flash a kernel, Can I flash it just like I would a rom in rom manager? Or do I need to flash it in fast boot???
Any help would be appreciated! Thanks.
Flash a kernel by going into CWM recovery, wipe dalvik cache and regular cache , install, done or I think you can do it from rom manager, been awhile, but I believe you can install while wiping dalvik
Edit: oops said rom instead of kernel XD
I have a AT&T Samsung Galaxy S3 (SGH-1747) that is running stock with root.
I have rooted my phone using the samsung toolkit located here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1746665
Since that toolkit flashed a CWM Based recovery I have installed ROM Manager and flashed CWM Recovery version 6.0.1.2
My questions are..
- with my current setup.. am I technically running the "Stock" samsung kernel?
- why would you want to flash a different kernel to your phone?
- and is it necessary to flash a different kernel in order to use certain custom roms?
- At first I was leaning towards flashing CM10 nightly but the more I look at it.. I want to flash PARANOIDANDROID 2.22 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1818199
Is this rom fully compatible with my AT&T phone? and since i'm running stock with root, do I need to do anything special before flashing this rom? Factory reset? Wipe Data? I've already made a full nandroid backup.
Thank you!

- why would you want to flash a different kernel to your phone? Different kernels do different things.. some have better batter life.. some let you OC and UC..
- and is it necessary to flash a different kernel in order to use certain custom roms?Well sometimes.. Well technically.. most kernels will work with most of the ROMS out there.. as long as you stay withing your phones threads.. But some ROMs have a kernal with them.. and some ROMS you need to flash your own kernel..

Thank you for the reply.
On the rom i'm wanting to flash for my SGH-i747 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1818199
The steps for flashing are as follows:
CWM: Install Zip: Rom: Download Here Make sure the file you download is PA-2.22-d2att.zip
CWM: Install Zip: Gapps: Download (These are the new ones)
CWM: Wipe Data/Factory Reset
CWM: Advanced/Wipe Dalvik Cache
Reboot and edit your Apps Dpi & Layout under Settings/Paranoid Settings - DO NOT RESTORE YOUR OLD PROPERTIES FOR NOW
Would i need to wipe data, factory reset, then also wipe dalvik cache BEFORE I install the rom and gapps since i'm running stock with root?
Thank you
i'm also reading that for paranoidandroid you must first flash CM10 then flash paranoid.. is this accurate?
umm.. not sure where you saw that you need to flash a CM rom before flashing the paranoid ROM..
I believe the Paranoid rom is based off CM
The instruction on the link you have, in my opinion, is wrong..
The way that i flash my roms is...
Wipe data/factory reset..
Wipe Cache
Wipe Dalvik
Format/Data
Fomat/System ( i think deletes backups) only do in emergency.aka optional step
Flash ROM
Flash Gapps.
THATS IT
Some people will wipe cache afer flashing a rom..
But if you wipe data/factory reset i believe deletes the ROM...

If you are already running CM10 then you don't need to wipe Cache. Just dalvik and data. Im pretty sure thats what was confusing, since this is based off of CM10.

yeah, I just keep reading and reading.. probably making this out to be more difficult than it really is just don't want to end up with a brick or anything.
I'm already on stock + root + latest CWM so I just need to put the files on my phone and flash but I believe these are the steps i need to take:
1- Download ROM and Gapps to internal sd card
2- Boot phone into recovery
3- WIPE Cache/Delvik/Data factory reset> Mounts and Storage- format system
4- Flash ROM and Gapps
since im new to xda i can not post on the main thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2442977&page=12
so i had to create this one as a question, cause i have a problem installing this rom, i downloaded both the kernel and the rom from the main thread, i first flashed to stock rom with odin, then i followed every step to install the kernel and after the rom, but im stuck in boot loop and im kinda angry cause it seems like im the only one with that problem.
i tried to install the rom using white's 1.33 kernel instead of percy's kernel ( the one provided in the main thread) and then flashing the rom, and it kinda worked, because i didnt go in to boot loop, but neither wifi or bluetooth werent working.
pls help me!!! i really want to try this rom!
1.first flash stock ddlk2
2.download the rom and flash it after :
(i) formatting system,data and cache
(ii) mounting all partitions
When done flashing, wipe data and reboot

Try this method
#1-Flash stock rom using odin
#2-Go to cwm
#3-Mount all partitions
#4-Install CyanogenMod#2 kernel
#5-Back and go to Advance then REBOOT RECOVERY
#6-You are on cwm now and the fonts are small
#7-Go to mounts and Format system, data, cache
#8-Dont press back -Mount all partitions
#9-Install zip from sd card-choose zip then choose The Rom
#10-When it is done flashing -Wipe Data - tHEN REBOOT
Do this.
1. Go to cwm recovery
2. Clear data and wipe cache
3. Go to advance :- wipe dalvik cache and battery states.
4. Go to mount & storage :- format system, data & cache.. dont format sd.
5. Then mount everything expect sd-ext.
6. Flash kernel.
7. Go to advance reboot recovery.
8. Again wipe data & cache.
9. go to advance and again wipe dalvik cache & battery states.
10. Mount everything expect sd-ext
This time you dont need to format system, data, or cache in mount.
11. Finally flash rom and reboot.
Hope it work.
Using optimus nexus me v5 on galaxy y
Is there anything I need to do to flash something to my phone from a downloaded zip using ROM Installer besides just flashing it?
It gives the option to wipe data and cache- should I do this any and every time I flash something or not?
Anything else I should do besides a back up?
And, can it all be done via the installer, or do I need to do anything manually?
Thanks.
you'll have to flash the boot.img of the Rom you choose through fastboot. I've never used ROM installer, so I'm not sure what else is needed.
the safest way, is to always wipe cache, dalvick cache, system, when flashing a new Rom.
