Hi All,
Thought maybe someone here would have an idea, we run a exchange 2003 environment and since upgrading my phone to 2.2 (custom rom) I'm unable to sync with exchange.
It gets past the first screen asking for server details etc to the one that asks what data to synchronise with (mail, contacts, calendar) but upon clicking finish setup it loads processing and then says "Failed to create the account. Please try again later."
I am an administrator of our exchange environment so can check settings there but basically it worked under 2.1. We do enforce pin and it has done that already so there is some communication going on.
We do not self sign our own certificates for this it is signed by Equifax Secure Inc.
Also I have a feeling it might be related to content and be failing due to large amounts of emails - when syncing on 2.1 I had to choose the smallest amount of days to sync back to get it going - being a systems engineer I receive around 50+ emails a day and don't delete stuff.
If anyone has any ideas on anything I could look at doing on the phone or server side (considering exporting everything out and syncing then importing in but don't want to have to) it would be most appreciated.
Thanks in advance. Also thanks to the community for awesome threads on how to flash phone / create goldcard, confused me muchly with many hurdles but got there in the end so very much appreciated to those who participate in that area.
Shameless bump, anyone? I've wasted a large amount of time searching and trying to figure this one out.

Im trying to do the same with my hotmail account, everything passes until last screen than i get "Failed to create the account. Please try again later."
Using NeoPhyTe 1.6
I've been having this problem "FAILED TO CREATE ACCOUNT TRY AGAIN LATER" so long until today, many ppl have had this issue. They mentioned about the pin security and all of that. I didn't think that was true.
This had to do with the permissions set for the user in AD, I went in and (tick or check the) allow authentication, read, read and write phone. Follow from instructions here: (done in 2010 exchange)
security.crudtastic.com/?p=249
I know can read my emails from exchange =)

Just thought I'd reply back to this in case anyone else was following this or wanted to know, I found the issue looks like it was related to opendesire (just a flash of it) account synced on another guys desire (2.2 stock). I did a factory reset which didn't fix it but have now flashed LeeDrOiD Mod and it's going strong. Thanks everyone for input .

Hotmail active sync (push) works with badnewz v1.4c ROM
Hello all,
I'm new to the forum and to this site as well.
I just bought the Desire Z and it looks like a nice one
When configure the phone I found an interesting problem that I have no idea how to over come and need your help.
When I sync the phone with my exchange mail in the office it is sync only my inbox and not any other sub folders I created in my mail box, unless I'm going to each one of the sub folders and sync in manually.
In my older phone (Touch pro2) I use to get it done automatically.
Is any one can help me on this ?
Another small question is how I can activate the screen lock on this phone ?
Thanks for speedy answers and sorry if I post it wrongly.
Regards,
Oren

screenlock is in the settings->security...
look in the "mail" settings. you have to select each folder then after that it will autosync. how many folders do you have?
I don't know if their latest HTC ROM update has changed this, but unfortunately the ROM my HTC Desire Z came with (1.34.405.5) can't synchronise other folders automatically. Whilst viewing email you can press menu and select other folders, but it'll download the email then, there's no way to make it do it automatically.
The stock Android email client (which the person above me is talking about) CAN synchronise other folders, but unless you're prepared to change ROMs (or at the very least root it and try and swap in the stock Android mail application) I don't think there's much of a solution.
However, a word of warning which might not make you want to bother, the synchronisation works differently to how it did on Windows Mobile (I previously had a Touch Pro2 as well!): On WM you could set a folder to sync, but only the Inbox would alert/notify, the other folders would just be there ready downloaded whenever you wanted them. However, the stock Android client will sync the extra folders AND alert you whenever new email arrives in them.
To me this was a pain in the neck because I have Exchange sending messages to some folders that I will read later/don't care about when they come in (information messages etc) so of course I have to unsync those folders now because it'll alert me if something goes into them, I only wanted them there ready downloaded for when I wanted to check.
On the plus side the stock app can also "hide" folders from view, but then it also can't move messages to another folder (which the HTC version can!)... If only the mail client had features from both...

Wow ! Thank you so much for such a post !
For me it is kind of a must have as I travel a lot and need to see the mails coming (by the way, on the TP2 there was a green number of mails near each sub folder) and not to sync manually about 25-30 sub folders .
will try to speak to HTC people - I will update of any new ideas
Cheers

I run IT support for about 95-100 traveling salesmen, almost all of them require mobile email support.
This issue has come up a few times now for IPhones, the way it's corrected with that is by setting the days to sync from the default 3days to no limit. It's not the best fix, as most of these people with this issue are dealing with exchange mailboxes around 5gb's (ceo's and regional managers), so it just eats into the phones space, but it works.
Possibly it will work for androids as well.
I have a tmobile g2, but I use google for mailhosting, exchange support isn't quite ready for any of the big 3 phones (BB iphone and android).

Thanks for this, So there is no answer even not in the market ?
Interesting !
i'm personally hating how exchange simply doesn't work on android, atleast on virtuous ROM for the desire z.
After almost 2 hours of telling it to create an exchange account on my phone and finally be able to create one, I run into a problem that it goes on a refresh spree and spams my notification with the one unread email that I have over and over again until i delete the damn account. I hope hotmail gets their crap together and support imap or atleast get their damn exchange server to work properly.

Checkout Touchdown in the market.....
Closest yet and you can choose which files to sync......
Hi
Has anyone else encountered this issue, or know of a solution? I've searched and have found similar problems but nothing exactly like this.
I've just upgraded to Stock gingerbread using the RUU download.
I use Exchange Activesync to sync only my mail from Gmail. However, when set to 'Push' email it will go into a constant loop of syncing.
One thing I noticed, after deleting and re-setting up the account a number of times, is that it works fine until I delete emails. Once I delete, the non-stop syncing begins....
Apologies if this has been asked before-I searched, honest!
Many thanks in advance for any info.
Unbranded DHD on stock Gingerbread, Virgin, UK.
Do you use GMAIL or the htc mail app?
In the htc mail app, it is looping if you set the app to synchronize more than one day (3days beeing the default value)
With 1 day, it is working partially : many sync will end in error, but will succeed later.
definitively, htc isn't able to provide a stable solution for AES...
For my part, I still use the Froyo stock mail app, wich is working very well with hotmail, but unfortunately without html support. (you can easilly install it with the apk)

Hi
Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately this did not work for me.
Yes-I'm using the HTC Mail app.
I deleted the account and set it up again , reduced the syncing to one day as you suggested, but as soon as I delete any emails, it goes back into the continuous syncing loop.
Would I have to be rooted to install the Mail app from Froyo?
Thanks again!
I have same issue. If I setup Gmail as an exchange activesync with m.google.com it continuously syncs and sometimes authentication error, then it works fine again.
With other exchange accounts it is fine.
I prefer the Mail app over Gmail app as I prefer not to have conversation view and it will view.docx word files.

Yes-I prefer the Mail app. Nice clean UI. Always used to work well for me with Froyo. Giving Moxier a trial right now, Seems to work fine but a bit pricey.
Same boat here.
Prefer the HTC mail app but getting sick of the constant syncing.
I'm using a custom Rom, could that be the problem?

No, you can install it on unrooted phones.
BTW you are able to uninstall it like all apps later...
You'll find below the version I'm using.
If anyone has the stock 2.3 mail app, and that it is better, well I wouldn't say no...

I don't think having a custom rom is the culprit as I've got HTC Stock Rom on a debranded but unrooted DHD, and I've got the same issue.
By the way, as I said earlier, I have been trying out Moxier mail and it does not seem to have this syncing problem....BUT-it's a bit expensive and overkill for my needs really.

Big thanks for the APK, Samsenteur!
I have the same problem on a unbranded DHD after the Gingerbread update.
Has anyone sorted out a fix for this?
Does installing the 2.2 mail app solve the problem?

Of course not!
But you'll have another mail app that will work with hotmail push.

After a lot of messing about I firstly discovered that after a short while using Moxier Male, the problem returned. However Touchdown works perfectly. Unfotunately this is a rather pricey cure for the problem. I think the reason Touchdown works for Push mail is something to do with the fact that there is an option in the Touchdown settings, to only delete emails from the phone rather than the server. Having this ticked I have had no problems at all with the constant syncing issue. As for why this should make a difference...I'm afraid someone with more technical knowledge would have to try and answer that!
I'm having the same problem with this. Anybody find a solution? Not keen on the gmail app.
GB has proven to be a flakey update for me. Lots of stuff worse than Froyo (for me).
Has anyone found a fix for this yet?
I have a HTC Desire (not desire HD) and have just changed to a gingerbread rom and now have the constant sync problem with push mail. I did not have this when i was using froyo...
same problem
Same here with DHD on 2.3.3 (stock). No fix yet, I assume...

why install the 2.2 htc mail app then and use it if it doesnt solve the problem (resending the deleted items and push issues) ??
i restored a froyo build of one of the roms i use and mail htc mail was working flawlessly (imap/pop3 and hotmail activesync).
the problem seems to be in gingerbread.
anyway to get over this? ideas ?
thx.
It seems you don't understand me :
-Installing the Android mail stock app doesn't solve the problem in HTC MAIL. (of course)
But it allows you to use a mail app that does work correctly with hotmail AES. (we don't want imap/pop, do we?). I don't have any push issue with Android stock mail. It works perfectly. My only concern is that there's no html rendering.
Touchdown is able to push mail with Hotmail AES and provide html rendering, but the app is expensive, I personnaly find the interface heavy, and it only supports one AES account at the same time (I have 3).
- I had the same exact issues on Froyo. And this is why I was already using the Android stock mail app.
Well I don't know what ROM/s you were using on Froyo that had constant syncing problems with the stock HTC email app. I've never had any problems on Froyo whilst running Leedroid, ARHD or Coredroid.
The only time I have ever encountered or even heard of this problem was on Gingerbread.
I've just gone back to Leedroid 2.2.3 Froyo & this problem doesn't exist on that ROM.
I don't see any benefit to using Gingerbread on the DHD (without Sense 3), it seems like HTC have gone backwards to be fair...
I was using the native htc Froyo ROM.
Sync was looping on first message when using push in Hotmail (no pb with other accounts, and no pb with pop/imap). As I've seen in XDA, I was far from beeing the only one to have this issue... You can find many threads in this forum.
Anyway, I'm quite happy with google stock mail app, so I no more use the htc's one.
Ah that must be why I've never come across it on Froyo, as I use Gmail & not Hotmail.
Do remember hearing of some people having problems with Hotmail on Froyo but never with Gmail. Think the Gmail problems are limited to Gingerbread.
Okay so this is my first ever thread here on XDA Developers, and I apologise in advance if it is a little on the tl;dr side, and I HAVE checked for another thread with a solution to this problem but so far found nothing proper...
I have a Desire HD running Honeysense HD V8 with the Stock HTC Mail App, Set my Hotmail account up with Exchange Push settings and have this problem whereby after you delete read messages they just reappear right back again unless you manually delete them off the server, (Which kinda defeats the whole object of having your e-mail with you on your phone, on the move). I have tried everything and have yet to find a solution...
The weird thing though; is that not ALL ROMS do it... It seems to be a select few of AOSP, MIUI and even Sense ROMS that have the problem... At first I thought it was to do with the Kernel used (Since I am still a n00b tbh) and tried switching out to other Kernels but that hasn't solved the problem here. It sort of worked when I switched the default Cyanogen Mod Kernel out, but is yet to work with any Sense Roms, which I prefer immensely due to the Facebook / Twitter etc link options it has...
So I apologise once again for the tl;dr post, just wanted to be as specific as possible...
Hope you guys can help!
Thanks.

I'm on a DHD with Sense in German language.
In the option "send & receive" it's the 6th option from top.
At mine it'like this:
Mail size limit
Update shedule
Download options
Auto download message
Folder to sync
Sync deleted folder from server
Edit:
I looked at both of my accounts. At gmail Account i don't have this option to.
Maybe its because your mail provider doesn't support this feature on smartphones.

Ahhhh it might be that then... Awhh bawllz =[
But I swear i've seen that option in other Mail Apps on PC available with Hotmail...
Besides which, How come it works perfectly fine on other ROMS? If that was the case then i'm sure NO other rom would have properly deleted messages when I told it to...
Such a ruddy mystery to me =[
Hmmm...
If i delete a mail on the phone it's gone. But i still have it on the mailserver and can see it on my PC.
But i whant it to be like this.
If i sync mails on my phone the deleted mails don't come back.
When you flashed the Rom did you wipe properly?

Yeah, Full EXT 4 Wipe everytime I flash! So it just continues to confuse me lol...
I keep getting these weird texts from 6250 saying VZWNMN 1 and VZWNMN 2. Anyone else see this?
Me to. Comes prior to every email. VZW said they never heard of it.

I used to receive these, but I figured out how to stop them!
1. Login to your MyVerizon.
2. Find your number and click on Change Features from the bottom right.
3. Select your device/number.
4. Then scroll down until you find Contact Management and click remove!
And they're gone.
EDIT: Don't want to take credit for this, I got this from Droid Life, but I re-wrote it.
Thank you kind sir! This helped!

I've synced/added gmail and yahoo mail accounts at setup and found that only the yahoo account was affected. Now I just use yahoo mail through their app and the functionality is much better/no VZWNMN emails.
This problem seemed to change from ROM to ROM(some were affected, some not).

I had this problem when I went from a Sense rom back to CM7. I think it happens because on the Sense rom, during setup, it syncs your contacts and email to Verizon. When I flashed a different rom, it could no longer sync.
This has to be one of the most annoying things Verizon has done. I don't mind it syncing. It is actually kind of cool. I don't know how many times I have deleted a very important email and had no backup.
But texting me everytime I get an email is annoying and a pain.
For awhile, I was avoiding ROMs(like MIUI for me) that seemed to have this VZWNMN problem more than others I was using.
I've found that using a market email app(for me, Yahoo!) is better than trying to use the installed android email app for non-Google email. Functionality(like folders) is much better, too.
If you use Titanium to back-up apps, you don't need to re-sign into your email app when you change ROM's, just restore and away you go...
