[Q] Can i root with MY HTC in device manager? - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Tired of scouring through help videos and google searches... I hope someone on here can help me.
Rooted my HTC Desire via the unrevoked 3.2 method and used for a few days before deciding to S-OFF. Well i made a mistake and got stuck in a boot loop. Reflashed the RUU and i am back in business.
The issue is that i had to reinstall HTC Sync to reflash the RUU and then uninstall again so i could re-root, leaving the drivers in of course. I noticed that when i connect phone to PC via the same method as before, it should have had 'ANDROID 1.0' in device manager but this time it says MY HTC.
Can anyone explain what to do?
1) I can go ahead and root as before, this is just the new version of HTC Sync drivers.
2) Stay clear, the new drivers mean the bootloader is locked.
Which is it?????
I am a noob and although some members on here instructed me to use adb, i am out of my depth with that, even the guides available aren't simple enough for me.
Surely there must be an easy way out of this?
Any help would be much appreciated!

u can try uninstall the drivers and reinstall them back to be safe. also install the modified hboot drivers from unrevoked.

Thanks for your reply. Already tried to uninstall then reinstall the drivers. The issue is happening when I try to install the modified hboot driver, it says the driver is up to date but doesn't show as 'Android Bootloader Interface'.

When your Mobile is fully booted it will show My HTC.. and when you will boot into fastboot.. by volume down and power.. you will see 'Android Bootloader Interface'.
So that mean, YES you can root with unrevoked while you have 'MY HTC' in device manager with USB Debugging On.

Have you installed HTC Sync, and what are you trying to do?
Yes, sure, HTC installed and works fine. When getting phone in bootloader state PC couldnt find driver "Android 1.0"...
Are you trying to install a rom? I had the same thing, but carried on and put the phone into recovery. Win.7 64bit then installed the driver and it worked.
Try that.
What driver you've installed?
I have HTC sync installed, and the sdk kit. You need both to root.
I have both too.. Sync and SDK
Did you try to go ahead and put the phone into recovery, wait about 10 seconds, then use the recovery windows.bat?
At worst you will just have to take the battery out if it doesn't work...
If it still won't work I'd suggest you use the guide for Tiny Core Linux. It's foolproof and you won't hit any driver issues.

rooting the desire

tried the unrevoked method downloaded everything that was asked but i dont get the hboot usb notice under the simlock sign cant see where im going wrong here, anyone know the answer
Read the instructions on the unrEVOked site
read everything and watched the youtube vids,in vids and in written instructions but i aint got the hboot usb under the simlock when i go into bootloader
Most likely you have forgot to install the HBoot drivers that are needed if running Windows. Also make sure that you have USB debugging enabled.
i have all that in my device manager mate,my prob is i cant get the hboot usb on my desire like it shows you in the vid tuts
Maybe an issue with fastboot then. If you can't access it manually then there is a problem with it. Just search the forum.
Turned antivrus/firewalls off?

Depends on hboot.
For me was no such option either. So, I just booted into HBOOT and plugged in the USB cable and it automatically changed to HBOOT USB PLUG and unrEVOked worked.
thats where i get too also mate,it comes up in blue hboot usb at the top then i do the reflash package and i get the unrevoked flash coming up but just sits on waiting for device
@nagypapi you wouldnt happen to know an orange simlock code so i can put a vodafone sim into my desire
this might sound silly but i install the hboot usb drivers and the reflash package to my laptop?? i dont install anything to my phone
You do know that you won't actually see 'HBOOT USB' on the menu of the Desire don't you? That bit is based on another handset
Turn on the phone holding the volume down button and you'll be in HBOOT. Connect it to the PC and you'll see 'HBOOT USB' on the screen...that's it
lol yes mate i know that,i'm just getting the evo page and
"waiting on device"ive enabled usb debugging and charge only, ive done everything to the letter with no joy,ive unlocked and rooted a nexus one so i thought this would be the same but it aint working for me somehow
Did you uninstalled htc synch?
i seen that on the tut but i cant find it on the phone, all i can see in apps is htc sync weather
Htc synch on ur pc I mean..If u never installed it, so u have to install it (check htc.com), then uninstall (but leave the driver)..
This what I did when I rooted my desire ages ago:
-Install hboot drivers
-Install htc synch and uninstall it (leaving the drivers installed)
-Set debug mode and charge only as default option (make it remember)
-Leave ur desire ON normally at ur homescreen
-Run unrevoked..and ONLY when it ask for the device, plug ur desire..
-Done (unrevoked will reboot ur phone couple of time, dont remember)..just wait the success message on ur pc
Hope it helps
You need to uninstall it from your PC then install the 2 drivers for clockworkmod.

Trying to Root stuck on Fastboot

I'm trying to root my evo with the new release today of Revolutionary method. I've asked over and over and even sent PM to others who had the same problem but found a solution. And again NO HELP! so I wanted to ask here and see if anyone has a solution. Everything goes good until it gets to "waiting for fastboot". The phone reboots into recovery and fastboot usb is shown and it stays there. HELP PLEASE!!!!
Just a guess, but make sure to have the htc drivers installed. If you have the full htc sync installed you have to uninstall it. Hope this helps..
I do not have HTC sync installed I tried again and stuck on fastboot. I get a error message saying Android 1.0 not installed.

Firstly, you haven't got a recovery.
Secondly, post the bootloader information.
Bootloader Information:
HBOOT 0-93.0001
Radio 5.11.05.27
News???
Sounds like you haven't got a recovery.
If the phone boots, S-OFF it with revolutionary and flash recovery.
If it doesn't boot then run a RUU and do as above.
Tks
I tryed with S-OFF revolutionary but when I run revolutionary compare:
"Waiting for device"
I install drivere HTCDriver3.0.0.007
Are you sure we're in fastboot while running revolutionary?
Sent from my HTC Desire using xda premium
Yes sure!!!
Is Windows 7 the problem???
Nope, Windows 7 isn't the problem. Have you installed the necessary Windows hboot drivers correctly?
Sent from my HTC Desire using Tapatalk 2
I install driver HTCDriver3.0.0.007(driver for fastboot)
http://downloads.unrevoked.com/HTCDriver3.0.0.007.exe
This driver is correct???
Driver looks ok, I meant when installing them with phone in fastboot did you get Android Bootloader Interface listed under Android Phone in Device Manager on pc?
edit: presume HTC Sync application not installed, or anything like myphoneexplorer that might interfere with process?
HTC Sync don't installed.
In attach Android Phone in Device Manager(first fastboot and after fastboot)
Can't remember now if Win 7 has a different device description to XP, will need to check what shows up on my pc at home. Another thing that might interfere with process is running anti-virus eg AVG - so might need to be disabled.
edit: checked that and looks ok, try unistall and re-install the drivers. Is it possible you somehow got a usb brick?

Use adb from bootlooping screen. The command is "adb reboot recovery". Adb is part of android SDK. There are plenty of guides on how to set up adb out there and its easy.

You can run adb from pretty much anywhere. Even if you were stuck in the splashscreen or in the rom.

You don´t to have be in hboot to use adb. You have to be with the phone on normally or from the splash screen itself. If you are in hboot then choose fastboot and try from there but using fastboot devices command instead.
As long as you have not factory reseted the phone the usb debugging drivers will stay in the phone.

USB debugging should always be enabled by default in any custom Rom. The thing that will disable it is doing factory reset from hboot screen. But you can't get there anyways so it should be enabled. Start the phone as normal and let it go to splash screen. Plug into pc and be sure to check that pc sees the phone. If not, unplug phone. Uninstall drivers. Re install drivers and then plug phone back in. From adb type "adb devices". You should see your device. After that run the "adb reboot recovery". If it still doesn't see it plug phone into different port. Preferably one that goes straight into mother board and remove any other USB devices that are plugged in.

any other way to enable it ?
I did a factory reset.
i just installed a new rom.
thank you for trying to help any way/
Go to settings>Applications>development and check USB debugging.
If you're still getting device not recognized, you should reinstall HTC drivers by reinstalling HTC sync. ( if you haven't installed those in the first place, then you won't be able to use adb unless you do)

When you say "factory reset," do you mean that you ran a RUU? Or that you chose "factory reset" in recovery, so you still have a custom ROM installed? If the answer is the latter, you probably have USB Debugging enabled. Just give ADB a try.

Do you have the HTC sync drivers installed? If not, you should be able to find guides for it, like glevitan said.

How?
I installed the R26.2 successfully, the JB Rom I mean..
Then installed all the tweaks in PIMP my ride successfully again ( I am not a noob.... )
That didn't triggered it...
At the end I was trying to install Int2ext+ and it happened....! I don't know why!
I had done this before on various phones.... I don't know what happened!
The only thing I was able to access so far was HTC BOOT SCREEN! and I also
can access a choke hold from my wife soon I guess!
I don't know why these things always happen to her phone... other friends phones are fine when
I change their roms bla bla bla!

Pull the battery and then put it back. And try to boot, pressing power + volume down until you get hboot.
