[Q] HTC wont boot past parsing - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

so heres my story.
my brother got water on my HTC desire. it was enough to turn the papers red. so when i try to boot it it says cannot find PB99IMG.zip. so now i have created a gold card and done all that . yada yada yada. but my problem lies here. anytime i attempt to load a PB99IMG file, it loads it, but then the farthest i have gotten to was parsing .............[sd zip] all the bootloader and other such showed up below it. but gets stuck there. any other file ive tryed, it usually gets to checking sd and then fails and goes back to main bootloader. could somone recomend a PB99IMG file that will bring my HTC back to the way it was. its on telus i dont see anything on the phone except HTC so i dont think its branded. somone please help me.

More details about your hardware/software please.

not sure what you mean , but i havn't rooted it or anything . so its stock.

Got phone from any provider or just running htc stock? If second one, download ruu here:
http://shipped-roms.com/download.ph...9.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_159811_signed.exe
MD5: bae5f3e1bf9f7e2e7d47d5e51254103b
After this, follow this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10509780&postcount=102

its from telus . if that makes a difference.

so i did as told , it gets to parsing and shows all the bootlaoder and radio stuff but does nothing.

Yes, that makes a difference. You need this one:

thanks for your help its downloading now ill let you know how it turns out

it still does the same thing. i dont get options on whether or not i want to update.

*BUMP* it still sits on parsing and doent ask my to update or anything what else should i do ?

md5 hash means, you check the md5 sum of the file, to get sure the file is not corrupted. For windows you can this one e.g.:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/20471345/SUroot/Tools/PC/md5Check.rar
When you use linux, you do not need an extra software. Open command line, navigate to the place where the file you want to check is, and type
Code:
md5sum file.exe
File.exe is just a placeholder, replace it with the name of your file.

Can you tell how did you try this.. I hope you didnt put this file on your sd .. this is a RUU file..
Switch off your mobile.. and switch it on by.. Volume down and power.. after that connect USB cable .. and from ur PC run the RUU.exe file.

i ran the RUU and found the rom.zip file in my temp and put that on my sd card.

connect to USB and run the RUU.. it will give you exact error code.

it said it couldnt find the phone ;as if it wasn't connected.

Installed all drivers (hboot and htc sync) correctly and uninstalled htc sync?
Sent from Oxygen

by installing drivers does that mean downloading and installing sdk ?

htc evo wrong nv items? help

need help with my htc evo 4g i installed the wrong nv items now my phone turns on and off it wont pass the htc evo logo the only way i connect my phone is tru htcboot or if i hold the up volu key and power it vibrates 3 tmes o 6 the it asks me for the qualcomm cdma mms driver but i cant find it any ideas
If you have s-off....Put the newest pc36img.zip on your sdcard and flash it. Qualcomm will do no good and is uncharted territory. I would really not mess with your radio like that. Stick to flashing system stuff like roms.
pc36img
y tried this file and it did not work 4 me
i dont think you understand pc36img.zips. all are different. they are the firmware on your phone. just downlaod one with the most recent firmware, and flash from bootloader.
Run the ruu for the latest software. It is an application ran thru the pc.

ok tahnk u guys
ok guys thank u quick question from were do i get the pc36img file or how do i know wich one is the new one and i just got a email from htc telling me that my phone as 1 yr warranty i bought this phone off craigslist the only problem is if i send it would they tell me something cause i pt the wrong nv items or imed esn problems?
you dont need htc or anything that drastic. i'd reccomend an ruu, and if that doesnt work, a pc36img.zip extracted from that ruu. http://goo-inside.me/evo/stock/RUU/...15.00.11.19_NV_1.90_release_161482_signed.exe that is the newest ruu. run it on ur pc
dkdude36
dkdude36 i tried several ruu but my phone cant conect to windows the only way is tru d sc card but i cant extrac the pcfiles from the uu i tried win rar universal extracter no luck any sugestions
for the ruu to work, use a bit of google to install hboot drivers, then boot into bootloader and choose hboot usb. then run the ruu. i'm not sure how to get pc36img.zips out of ruus but winrar isnt the answer. it has soemthing to do with the cache of the files.
ok i
it gives me error 170 usb not connected but it is it has the driver installed
ok then google up on how to extract pc36img.zip from ruu. i cant help you there.
give up
thanku for ur help dkdude36 but i dont know what to do anymore y tried 5 diffrent ruu and nothing ,tried several pc36img files and nothing i think am going to have to send it to htc
very well then, did the best we could...
if i were you, i would just google one more time... to try and find a 3.70 pc36img.zip. if not, too bad...
Did you try two reinstall the correct nv there in the dev thread
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
You will have to flash the engineering firmware, the regular pc36imgs dont contain all of the nv data. To be honest you will probably need to get your phone replaced either way though, there is a lot of stuff in the nv area that is unique to your phone and never changes.

Where can we get the engineering firmware???
Among other places, the download in the OP's post of this thread has a PC36IMG.zip (note the proper caps) containing the engineering files.

[Q] Can't boot up. Stuck on HTC logo.

This may sound familiar to you but..
Some background. Got my Desire repaired (replaced the motherboard because of a well-known reason..). Previously I had a root access and my SD card divided to FAT\EXT. So I got my phone back, it worked perfectly but today it suddenly turned off while it was charging. Now it won't boot up. I see the darn HTC logo all the time. Did the wipe and..restore. It seems that I don't have any update.zip on my card. I have no idea what should I do. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!
is your phone rooted? Were you have a custom rom or just a standard one?
Hey, no. After the repair the root was gone. Had the last OTA update installed. I just don't quite get it. Since I don't have that update.zip on the card, that means I can't really get it restored, right? So if i.e. I change my SD-card to another one. How do I get a restore image file? I'm confused..
If your phone is branded you need the goldcard to run again ruu but if it's not just download the latest software and try. maybe it'll help
try running logcat while the phone is hanging on the htc logo
it may give a clue of what is wrong

Downloads from shipped-roms.com freeze after a while. So I've found a PB00IMG.zip file in some other place. Bootloader checks the file and goes back to the main screen. No errors, no update options - nothing.

And here's the latest WWE RUU:
http://www.multiupload.com/LEJCW182AH
Gold card would be needed to run the WWE RUU if you have a branded handset
Thank you guys. As I've mentioned before my Desire isn't branded. It was bought in Lithuania unlocked and sim-free. So theoretically I don't need a gold-card. But one .img I've tried to feed em returned wrong CID error. I've downloaded that RUU and tried to run it. Phone's plugged-in but the setup drops an error (170), says it can't see the phone. Tried to do it with in the bootloader mode. Same stuff. I'm kinda messed up.
HTC says they can take it for the repair so I don't need to send it back to Lithuania, but I still think it should be fixable..
Wohoo! I've managed to get the rom.zip out of the latest RUU and fix the whole problem. Thanks guys! You made my day! We can close the thread now.

[Q] touch panel faild

hi every one iv got 1 of this G8 and touch screen do not work so i chenge it but the same problem come up and in bootloader screen its show up as touch panel failed so i need some help please
Moved to general...
need more details.
i had the same problem once with wildfire. i tried to unroot my phone and in the process i accidentally downgraded the radio which made my touch panel failed.
the solution to this is run the latest rom update utility. i mean to say is to update ur HBOOT to the latest one. u can update ur HBOOT from the fastboot menu. u need to keep a zip file in your mem card and rename it to something. the mem card should of FAT32 file system. i would have said about zip file and renaming more clearly if u have given more details.
touch panel failed
thanks for your atention iv don as you seid but do not knew how to bring up that screen which is for sd card. well i think better take it to some one insted thanks and very kind of you.
Regards
first tell me is it the problem with ur htc wildfire.
so, firstly u need to tell what the phone is.
and secondly, u need to tell about the HBOOT version.
u can know the HBOOT version doing the following. switch off the phone and take out the battery. then insert the battery, and if it is wildfire, hold the VOLUME DOWN KEY + POWER KEY. then what u will see is the HBOOT menu. it would be great if u post all the details of HBOOT menu here. atleast post the version of HBOOT.
and tell me the region of u. this is needed to download a region specific OFFICIAL ROM UPDATE UTILITY FILE. and also tell me whether ur phone is a carrier locked phone or a free gsm phone.
thats all.
and donot think that ur phone is bricked. a bricked phone never boots.
hi and thanks for help me out this is my 1 htc wildfire and iv got it from ebay whith the same fault .there is 5 line of green digit in hboot screen as :
1.BUZZ PVT SHIP S-ON
2.HBOOT-0.80.0003
3.TOUCH PANEL-FAIL
4.RADIO-3.35.15.31
5.MEY 28 2010,17:11:46
and my volume key not work any more than last day which i was try to update the USB .and im from birmingham(uk) i had fast boot usb on red in the screen but now its blue when i conect the usb but no more move happen
tell me u belong to which country and which region.
i mean the region from where the phone is purchased. ok u told that u r from UK
give me the purchase date or atleast the month.
TMO or H3G . are these the carriers of uk. if so, tell me ot which ur phone belongs to.
and thats all
i have hboot after insert SD mem(update-cm-7.0.0-buzz-signed)but some kind of green error come up and disapear which is wrote no image on last line.i also did it whith touch failed fix update from hear on xda and the same message come up but im surely have to say that :befor first time conect the USB i could move up and down whith volume key which is not possible now
TMO or H3G.
im from birmingham-uk or EU and the phone come from insid uk which is locked on 3 network and the important thing is i can not have the today screen i meen like a backgrond which i had befor usb conected
yes thats all . giving u the process
H3G yes brother
if i press the power only FAST BOOT come up
power+vol down=HBOOT nothing els would com up
my 1st process to u. ROM UPDATE UTILITY
Now follow the instructions carefully. In 99% cases, u will have ur problem cleared.
Now go to this link,
http://shipped-roms.com/shipped/Buzz/
now here u need to download a file. The file size will be around 140MB and use a download manager.
The file u need to download is
RUU_Buzz_H3G_UK_1.16.771.2_Radio_13.45.55.24_3.35.15.31_release_131501_signed.exe
Once u completed the download, u need to work on a windows pc.
Switch on ur phone and connect it to the windows pc with usb cable. I know ur screen cannot be unlocked. But donot bother this.
Then open the above downloaded file. run as administrator if needed. Then u will be guided through a step by step process called ROM UPDATE UTILITY. All u need to do is to press next, next, update rom and so on like that.
In between the phone also reboots and u can see the progress of the process both in the phone and in the pc. At last u will get an official android 2.1 rom.
Im giving u the process for android 2.1 because i dont want u to loose the ability to get rooted. Android 2.2 for wildfire is not rooted yet. And i hope u r aware of that.
First do this process, and if it gives any error, donot worry, there is another process. I will tell u that if this fails.
So good luck for this. And let me know after u have done it.
dont forget to tell me whether or not it solved
Be careful with the above process. I am not 100% sure whether Wildfire RUUs are compatible with G8's, and, if it isn't, you can very well have a worse problem.
hi bro iv don as you told me and a error messag come up as:
ERROR (170) USB CONNECTION
when i connect the phone whith usb my pc make a beep and iv got android bootloader interface in device manager.yet again have only HBOOT and FAST BOOT screen at all

i think RUUs wont generally brick up the phone in 99.9 % cases. if RUUs cant make the process, they get interrupted by showing some of the error messages like
USB CONNECTION ERROR
BOOTLOADER VERSION ERROR etc.
correct me if im wrong.

i hope u installed the HTC USB DRIVER. try reinstalling it. and i hope u are not using 64bit windows. some people say that they had this issue with 64bit windows.
have u installed the latest version of HTC SYNC on ur pc. install it if u haven't done that yet.
i suggest u to disable the antivirus and not to run any program in the startup of windows operating system. then try to do the process again.

the thread is not explaining clearly the problem. and moreover, i dont understand whether ur phone is wildfire or a G8.

and if ur phone is a G8, u need to mention at the top of the thread.

are there any download links for G8 RUUs. if they are present using them solves the problem.
and if there are no seperate RUUs for G8, then there is a chance for the wildfire RUUs to be compatible for G8.

[Q] unrooting the evo

I know theres a bajillion threads out there already on this subject, but i cant find the right answer anyway. Im sending a friends evo back to sprint for a replacement, and have done step one of two in unrooting the evo. I used the unrevoked s-on tool sucessfully and now have the phone with "s-on", but when i try to flash the pc36 file, the phone doesnt seem to read it in the bootloader screen, even though its saved onto the sd-card. I have tried to download a bunch of different files to rule out the possibility of a bad download, but i still get the same thing. In the bootloader screen it still says "no image found" or "wrong file". Any ideas of what to do? Thanks.
Make sure PC36IMG.ZIP is all caps. Other wise it won't work if u need ruu look at my guide in my Sig.
funny how something as simple as changing the name fixes it lol one more thing though. the bootloader tried to update, but the file it was updating was an older one. Can u post up a link for a newer one, and how exactly do u know which RUU to use?

Got a question man. At the bootloader screen the phone is recognizing the pc36img very briefly, with the blue download bar at the top right of the screen, it loads up, and then it just goes back to the main bootloader screen without asking me to update or anything. whats going on now lol
I'm having the same issue on my phone. It unzips the file, verify's the file and then just goes back to hboot screen. I've tried the RUU exe and it doesn't detect my phone at all.
Any ideas?

That form fixed my problems! Had to download a different PC36IMG to get it working.
the link is broken post a new one plz.
this whole thing is so easy, all i need is the right PC36IMG file. I have tried so many different ones and none of them work! Can someone please post the right link to this thread for the 2.10 hboot?
i have 2.10 hboot n the one in reapers post is the one i used. are u sure the file extension isn't being hidden and ur naming it PC36IMG.ZIP.ZIP?????
i got it fixed guys, i just had everything mixed up with the name and files. for anyone referencing to this page for help make sure the name is PC36IMG.ZIP and matches ur hboot.

Bricked Desire?! :(

Hey guys I'm really desperate right now...
I don't know what to to, I can't boot my Desire, I can't get into recovery, just fastboot is working. I'm always stuck on the splashscreen.
To begin with the story, I rooted my Desire months ago, flashed a new rom from time to time and everything worked fine. So yesterday I wanted to try out RCMix S CM7 where the FAQ said i need S-OFF.
So this also worked quite fine. But then I got problems partitioning my SDCard (dont know what why or so, my Desire didnt recognize it anymore)
Today I tried again but I made it even worse, now I can't boot my Rom anymore and I can't get into Recovery. So what should I do? I searched the internet for hours now and tried nearly everything.
I tried to flash an official RUU, in fact this one: RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.29.405.5_Radio_32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_159811_signed.exe
Becaus the others were too "old". But when I tried starting this one it couldnt detect my desire. USB connecion error.
But still it seems it flashed a new hboot because now I am S-ON again.
Then I tried to flash a Stock ROM via fastboot, which first failed because it wasn't signed and the second one failed because android-info.txt and android-product.txt were missing.
I tried to flash the recovery again but it's still stuck on the splashcreen.
I don't know what to do anymore... could you PLS help me? Or is my Desire now bricked??
What can I do, or try...?

If fastboot is working you should be pretty much safe. It seems like you got an usb brick. Try this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=691187
My Suggestion ... Create a Goldcard beofre doing anything.. once done you can put PB99IMG.zip into ur SD card and it will flash automatic once you goto fastboot... but Goldcard is a must for this.. if you dont knw search how to create goldcard.
For Goldcard
http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile...gold-card-for-htc-desire-without-hex-editing/
or
http://theunlockr.com/2010/03/10/how-to-create-a-goldcard/
Pat, is your phone branded ?
Flash the correct RUU for your phone (one that came with your phone originally), it does not really matter how old it is. after you done that your should get back to stock you can re-root it and then load the firmware you want.
if you don't know what your phone came with originally. then you will need a goldcard to get back to stock
@paul.c: nope it isn't branded
@dennis.l: I can't! I tried some of this list: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=695667
The old ones with 1.15 and 1.21 started, but didn't work because it said they are too old or something like that.
RUU_Bravo_HTC_WWE_1.15.405.4_Radio_32.30.00.28U_4. 05.00.11_release_122704.exe
RUU_Bravo_HTC_WWE_1.21.405.2_Radio_32.36.00.28U_4. 06.00.02_2_release_126984_signed.exe
Then I tried the newer one with FroYo, but this one throw and error saying it can't even find or connect to my phone.
RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.29.405.5_Radio_32.49.00. 32U_5.11.05.27_release
So what I've read so far I definitely need a goldcard right?
But all those manuals say I have to boot up and activate USB Debugging Mode... but I cant boot up a rom. The only thing that is working right now is fastboot.
Is it possible to make a goldcard without booting up? Or do I have to get a working Desire to make the goldcard?
I haven't got a cardreader either but seems I've got to get one.
Right now I'm not at home so can just try it in the evening.

You don't need goldcard for unbranded phones.
Even Unbranded phone requires goldcard to be able to flash any RUU...
So I prefer you create goldcard.. and yehs you can create goldcard without booting..
If you have anyone with android mobile.. goto market and search for goldcard helper.. and insert you memory card in that phone.. and run the goldcard helper.. it will give you the reverse CID .. whcih you can use to create goldcard... but you will require a card reader for sure..... just try your luck with your current phone.. just plug in the phone and run the Goldcard tool.. and check if your phone is detecting
THANK YOU GUYS SO MUCH!!
You saved my life! xD
I made a goldcard as you said with the help of a friend and his desire. Then I put it my phone and suddenly I could flash the newest Stock ROM
RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.29.405.5_Radio_32.49.00. 32U_5.11.05.27_release
So everything went great, I've got root again, a working stock rom and I'm able to start recovery mode again.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH!

You don't need goldcard for unbranded phones.

I'm glad to hear that. Sorry, it seems that I have to learn more.

Anytime Bro
I recently experienced a similar problem. And all the stuff you described wrong with your phone is the same on mine.
What I want to know is how to get back to stock and all that? A step by step guide would be very much apreciated..
I tried following this guide:http: //forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=691639
but as I try to enable my sdcard it get an error:
"The program can't start because AdbWinApi.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem".
I recently installed the JDK and just downloaded the newest android SDK to work with.
Besides I'm considering whether I'm doing this right. I do have to use the CMDprompt right? and direct it to my androidsdk/tools directory?
I'm pretty much new to messing around with my phone through the CMD though. Please be gentle when you describe any methods that might work..?
Regards,
Me

Adbwinapi.dll was moved to the platform-tools dir in the android sdk and the sdk path in Windows hasn't be updated. In win xp right click my computer, go to system then click the system variables button. Find "path" and change it to point in to the "platform-tools" folder... Note I'm not at my pc so I can't remember 100% what tab the system variables button is on
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA Premium App

Stumbled into the same problem. Just download it from the internet.
hi,
rage is right, better declare environnement variable, right click comupter - select properties - windows select advanced and you should see variable environnement. just add the path where adb is installed... mine is the following defaut path(C:\Program Files\Android\android-sdk-windows\tools) + (C:\Program Files\Android\android-sdk-windows\platform-tools) should add the in the user environ... name = path variable= the 2 path separated by a ;
Well I got desperate and I think that I've totally bricked my phone. I was going to a family arrangement and I didn't know the way so I was hoping that flashing the original RUU, would make me able to use the phone and the navigation in it, while starting the phone in fastboot would help. Seems it didn't. The RUU I tried to install seems it was a wrong one (here to say that I tried flashing it through the installer on my pc), but this was stated pretty late in the installation process.. where the guide told me to install a proper one.
My phone is now totally unresponsive. It won't even charge. When I hold the power button it just vibrates once and then nothing else happens.
Is it bricked? If so, does anyone know what my chances are with my warranty? Now that I've had it rooted and stuff, does my warrenty then expire and can they "track" the rooting part if I hand in it to their support?
Best of regards,
Me.

only guessing but if NOTHING turns on or boots, as in you just see a black screen then there is not going to be a way for any one to know the phone was rooted
try taking it back on warranty
I thought the same thing myself. Since it's unable to boot into the "recovery" menu by holding down "power + volume down" I guess it's not rooted anymore anyhow. During the RUU installation I noticed that it was installing a new "image-something" which I'm guessing means that it was writing over the root and recovery after which the installation failed.
Anyhow I'll try that and hope for the best. Thanks

Are you able to recognise the phone in adb at all?
From what I know it's very rare to completely brick unless you are flashing hboots or radios.
