New gallery app sucks - Verizon Droid Incredible 2

The new gallery in Android 2.3.4 / Cyanogenmod 7 nightly really sucks. I would like to go back to the gallery that came stock with my phone. Is there a way to do this?

As far as I know you can't get the stock sense gallery unless you go back to the stock rom. Try QuickPic from the market.

Excellent advise, quickpic is great, exactly what I wanted.
Just fyi for anyone else that stumbles on this, if use Titanium backup to remove file manager and the stock gallery you won't get a popup asking what app you want to use every time you try to send a pic in text message, it'll open quickpic by default.

Stock Contacts App

I really liked the stock Contacts app for the G2. Once I rooted, I forgot to check out what its name was and now I can't seem to find it, even though I've tried several apps. I don't really like the default one that I have with the Virtuous ROM. Is there anyone that can give me the name or a link to the apk? I'd really appreciate it, thank you.
edit: after some digging i found that it is wycontacts (or at least it looks just like it). my question now is: can i install that app in virtuous or would i need to change rom?
I wasn't aware that virtuous had a different contacts app? Either way it still has default app. If you don't have "contacts" in your app list, just open up "Phone" and goto the contacts tab.
As for Wycontacts, I don't know what that is but it is most certainly not the stock contacts app on the G2. If it's in the market, feel free to download and install it. It won't mess anything up.
It's not in the market, and the .apk I found online (v1.1) won't install in Virtuous. I tried installing CyanogenMod 6.1 and it uses the contacts app that I was looking for. I wish I could have both that, and HTC Sense though.
edit: basically i'm trying to get this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=623205 to work on virtuous. Is this possible?

[APP] Sense Gallery Alternative

Here is the original CM7 one but: its a bit slow
download

Just try quickpic in market, the best of all!!
You can even create your own folders, not possible on stock gallery.
Hit thanks and post a comment so more people can discover this!!
Doesn't work very smoothly on un-rooted stock rom.
Yeah i know just tested it.
Try quickpic in market.

[Q] Replacing Sense MMS.APK

Hi all,
My phone is rooted. Not a fan of the Sense 4.0 SMS/MMS app. I know I can download the default ICS 4.0.3 MMS.apk from the market.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.concentriclivers.mms.com.android.mms
When I go to install it, it says it will overwrite the existing application. Before I get reckless...
Couple questions:
- Why is there no existing mms.apk in /system/app ? I can't find it. Does HTC call it something different or...?
- How do I backup the current Sense version in case I screw this up and need to restore it?
- Is the Sense one tightly integrated into the rest of Sense? Will it break other apps, widgets...?
So far I got this working.
1. installed stock ICS SMS from market
2. backed up and removed /system/app/Message+CRC_1.apk
3. rebooted phone
Haven't tested MMS nor any sense features that might bomb (I hope not)
I'll update thread if there are any problems and I need to roll this back
Any Update
Hey. Just wondering if you had any update on how this worked? Everything still fine? I want to go to the ICS MMS app, cause the sense one isn't as nice.

I use it daily, the SMS app works perfectly. Love this change.
The HTC SMS widgets that display your messages on your desktop may not work (don't think mine do) but this is easily remedied by just finding other widgets in the market etc. Just don't put the default HTC ones on your desktop.
Won't uninstalling the app just automatically put stock sense app back in there?

No. The stock ICS app does not play nice with the stock Sense app, you can't have them both on the phone at the same time. Its not like when you install GOSMS or something.
I had to actually delete the sense app right off the phone completely for it to work properly. Otherwise I had strange problems such as messages being sent twice.
Since I physically deleted the sense app there is no going back without re-installing the sense APK.
Did you save the stock apk? No joke one of my hesitations is the messaging app. If I can switch to stock ICS for messaging I may be ordering mine yet tonight.

Can you post a picture of the app running on your HOX?

Honestly no why would i? I updated this post to be kind but I'm not building something here, this was for my own use and it works perfectly. I'd that's not what you're looking to hear, find another thread. I won't lose sleep at night.
As for backing up the original sense app, yes I did see step 2 above. I used adb for this just pull the file.
Again this works perfectly If anyone cares to try it. nothin to lose, if you don't like it just put the sense file back and reboot.
I installed both the calendar and the sms app today and they seem to work fine. Haven't tried mms. Haven't uninstalled anything yet, will see if I run into trouble. Thanks for posting readk, been searching for this but didn't find it until now
EDIT: Ran into problems immediately of course where pressing the Messaging app launched the HTC Messages app. Following your instructions for backup and removal seems to have done the trick though. Next step will be to do the same for the calendar

Wow, get out of the basement once in a while and realize how to communicate with humans. I simply really liked the idea of stock ICS messaging on the HOX and since I don't have mine yet I was just asking to see it because I imagine it would look really awesome. Why would you? I guess since you were sharing what you were doing I thought you wouldn't mind. Guess not.

Just wanted to note that trying to send or receive a MMS crashes the app.

ICS Messaging Alongside TW Messaging

I really like the ICS Messaging app but I'd like to be able to install it without replacing TW messaging. Anyone know how I would do this? I know there's an ICS messaging app in the market, but I don't like it for various reasons.

Name the ICS mms.apk to mms2.apk and push to system/app. Set permissions to RW/R/R and reboot. When its don't booting you should have two messaging apps in the app drawer.

I followed your suggestion but I still have only the Touch Wiz launcher in my app drawer. I renamed mms.apk to mms2.apk, copied to system/app, changed pemissions to rw/r/r and then rebooted.
I'm wondering if I need to install mms2.apk with package installer? I started to try this, but I get the message "Replace Application. This is a system application. Do you still want to replace it?"
I would back up the stock messenger then try to install. If it doesn't work just uninstall and replace it.

OK, I tried installing ICS messaging and let the installation replace TW messaging - ICS messaging wouldn't work...just kept crashing when I tried to open it. Tried a few reboots with no luck. Went back to TW messaging for now.

Hey, there is an ICS messaging app in the play store.

Yeah. If you did all that and still didn't work then you may want to just try the one in the play store for now. Once all the leaks stop and an official build is released. I am going to make a touchwiz mms that mimics the ICS mms and release it. It wont be exactly the same of course but I have some really cool ideas to try out. Until there there is an abundance of themed mms apks around you can use.
I'll just stick with the touch wiz mms for now. The one in the play store has ads, and it looks bad even with the ads removed. I like the idea of a TW/ICS blend mms, so if you make it I'll try it.

I'm gonna do it for sure. I have all the pngs ready and just want to wait for the final build. Plus I am having trouble getting it to decompile properly so I can edit smali. But that's another deal entirely.
I tried this and pic messages don't work so I had to go back to TW messaging app

Aokp has stock ics with no tw mms app. works fine.
aokp rom is awesome. Check it out
I ran AOKP for about a week and it's cool, but I missed the little things about TW. Like the split mms and email apps.
I'm really not into the whole pink unicorn thing either.

I like Touchwiz at this point for the full functionality of it. Once source drops and TCP and the others can build from source. AOKP will be may favorite. I like many aspects of Touchwiz and will always mess with it. The wife will not run AOSP ROMs so I have to for her little tweaks. But if I had a choice between fully functional Touchwiz and fully functional AOSP. I would take the AOSP. But I understand what ya mean about the little things on TW

Gallery Sync, Search Bar...How do I fix these little bugs after rooting...?

I'm enjoying my rooted Sprint GS3. Flashing has become so addictive that I find myself checking the several XDA threads hoping there is an update!!
Since I've flashed ParanoidAndroid, I have lost a couple features that I enjoyed...and wondered if others have experienced these, and if there are ways to fix them.
- Gallery no longer syncs with Picasa. It only shows my camera pics and screenshots.
- The permanent search bar now only shows a search magnifying glass. It use to say Google.
- In the launcher, the shortcut to the play store appears to be the old style (bag with an android head on it, instead of the play button)
Thanks for whatever!
GO JELLYBEAN!!
i don't think so i think its the rom...
Not sure why u got the old style market would love to know what gapps ur using. That being said I'm sure a third party app is out there for syncing picassa. Can't help u as I have never used my camera and gallery. And picassa sync only worked in the tw gallery. As for the search bar and market my attachment should do. Just flash in recovery. http://db.tt/MgwriNtp
Thanks for the tips.

You should look at the change logs for the ROM you're running. I'm running StrongSteve's Odexed Blue 4.7 (which, by the way, is awesome - gotta like blue though...) and have the old-school market icon (labeled Market too) as well, but you can see in his change logs from a previous version that was something he intentionally did. Everything you described, except the Picasa sync issue, could just be the way the dev themed their ROM.
I don't know what to tell you regarding your sync problem...

As far as I know Picasa sync is broken in CM right now and PA is based of CM.
