Hey guys
I am totally new to the android phones, and now having a DHD which has the following specs:
Android Ver. 2.2
BaseBand Ver. 12.28b.60.140eU_26.03.02.26_m
Kernel Ver. 2.6.32.21-gf3f553d
Build No. 1.32.405.6
Software No. 1.32.405.6
Now i looked at this link -
and didn't understand if i have to downgrade my DHD as well or is my version old enough so i can skip right ahead to the S-Off and ROOT?
can anyone tell me from what ver., and Ver. of what, do you have to perform downgrading?
thanks.
No need to downgrade.
Use this one:

If u want an ENG bootloader (not needed for custom roms and root, but recommend):

You can brick your phone, be careful!

how to root gingerbread
hi everybody,
forgive me if I' writing in the wrong place but for me has been enough difficult to get here..
I'm a rookie android user and I've been flying over the forums for the last three days, I'm really getting crazy.
Here are the specifics of my phone (branded):
android version 2.3.3
kernel version 2.6.35.10-gd2564fb
software number 2.50.405.2
and here's the problem:
I have purchased an AR drone and I'm trying to get it connected so I visited the following link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1072281
seems that the first thing i need is a ROOTED Desire HD . I have tried every thing. Visionary (in different releases installed with ASTRO) seems not to be working. When i select Temproot now, after a while, the screen turns black. I waited for several minutes but nothing happened. So I needed to exit the program selecting "home". At that point it didn't allow me to rerun the app, I needed to reboot the phone to get it working again but no success.
So I tried GINGERBREAK 1.2 but after 25 minutes the rebooting process was still going on and I guessed that something was not working properly (as usual), so I stopped it. I think there is also a problem with Superuser (v 2.3.6.3), infact when I try to update it, it says "an error occurred and su was not updated. A zip file (su-2.3.1-bin-signed.zip) has been placed on your sdcard, please reboot into recovery mode and flash it to update your su binary" (by the way...sorry for my inexperience, but what does "flash something" mean????).Anyway, my phone doesn't reboot on clockwork recovery.
Moreover, upon opening Rom manager (v4.3.2.4) it tells me that I must root my phone to get it working (of course) and that it cannot find Superuser at "system/bin/su" or "system/xbin/su". Guess what! I don't have such files on my phone.....
At this time i don't know what else I can do, I'm relly frustrated.
Can anyone help me out? keep in mind that if you have any kind of solution, I need some very "plain" explanation like if you were talking to your 5 years old son, please
Thanks
If we update with software number 2.50.405.2 can we root?
No, firmware > 2.37 cannot be rooted.
Thanks for the info, I guess I have to get rid of my AR Drone

I've been trying to install CWM on my DHD for a few days now and not sure if im either doing it wrong or its just not possible at the moment.
Android Version: 2.2
Kernel Version: 2.6.32.21
Build: 1.40.61.2
Software number 1.40.61.2
I think I've managed to root my device (i can use su in terminal emulator after a reboot) but ROM Manager fails to install cwm.

You need s-off to flash cwm
Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk
That would by why its not working then. Thanks
Shall give the s-off a try, little hesitant due to only having it a week.
Thanks to jkoljo this can be done painlessly: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=857537
I've been reading through the information on the page and not sure about the requirements it mentions.
Guessing the build version is the same as the one in the system information bit (which should be fine as its under)
As for stock kernel, do I have this seeing as I haven't done anything to my phone yet? Or might it be different as I have a branded handset.
-- never mind, turns out everything was fine. after several minutes of terror i appear to have s-off and cwm installed without killing my nice new phone
thanks for the help
Hi guys just tried to install the 2.3 OTA update that came through today.
Problem is as soon as I try it reboots to the exclamation mark and android symbol.
I am ENG S-OFF Radio S-OFF Sim Unlocked and Perm Rooted.
I did however change my CID to the standard HTC 001.
What could be the issue? I'm not getting any error notifactions or if I am I don't know where to find them?
Any advice?
Have you removed any system apps? Or any of the bloatware they pack in stock builds?
No the only thing I have done is to permroot with Visionary and add radio s-off and supercid now I changed the cid back to stock in prep for the update coming. The ROM is completely standard and stock.
My current version and build info is as follows:
Android Version
2.2
Baseband Version
12.28b.60.140eU_26.03.02.26_M
Kernel Version
2.6.32.21-gf3f553d

Browser Version

Oh and when trying to use this tool after the failed OTA update attempt to change radio s-off back to on to see if that worked the program no longer seems to work returning failed probably connection errors: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=857537
Thanks for the quick reply.
Same problem as I have in my thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1081923&page=2
I think its becuase we have S-OFF that we cant get the update. I'd like to know how to get S-OFF back on
If you're both rooted, etc... Why don't you try Seraphics rooted GB ROM?
You can flash it via recovery and is completely stock, other than having root access.
You can find the thread HERE and the ROM HERE
I wouldn't mind knowing how to get S-OFF back on. Starting to wish I didn't root as I cant even get an OTA.
Same problem
I had the same problem ealier today. Yellow ! when the update shuts down the phone, but take out the battery and it loads back 2.2 up..
Tried undoing changes I could remember making- the radio s-off, rooting and the CID. Only other thing I could think of was trying to take clockworkmod recovery off the phone.
I decided just to flash this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1059563
...If you can flash roms, this is probably gonna be much the same as the update.
In the end I was actually pretty disappointed with it. I've tried RCMIX kingdom ROM which has elements of sense3 in it. I hadn't done my research and expected sense 3 with this update.
Thanks for the suggestions guys but I'll be frank and say custom roms aren't interesting me. I use Launcher Pro and make my own lockscreens for all my visual customisations and haven't seen any ROM that does anything out the ordinary other than tweaks.
Its knocked my confidence in using anything off here especially when the tool to s-off supercid and simunlock says its simple enough to go back where in reality after attempting OTA something in the settings somewhere has changed and screwed it up.
The ROM I linked to isn't a custom ROM. Its stock HTC gingerbread with root.

Thanks had a looked more in detail at the rom you linked to and have to say I'm convinced and can't be bothered with OTA anymore lol Decided to stop sitting on the fence and throw myself at the dev communities mercy lol Those using the Easy Radio tool won't be able to go back to s-on unless rooted and to do so ensure that you haven't denied access to an unamed process called "Unknown" in your superuser app as this refers to the radio tools access.

Hi
I have the same issue as Delisaber. Deli is your DHD also from T-mobile?
What are your build numbers in software info?

Do you all know that it is nessecarily to downgrade your device ROM Software to Version 1.32 or 1.72??
You CAN NOT ROOT your device with Gingerbread or Android 2.x the easy way.
Check this and download your ROM 1.2x or 1.3x or 1.7x for your current provider.
Flash it - and after all ROOT it.

he asked for the rom build version not the kernel version. but anyway this kernel version indicates a gingerbread rom version. as he said above you need to downgrade. look up jkojos post.

but root didnt work with it
Please help me Im new on Android...
you cannot root any newer desire hd build, you must downgrade first, to downgrade you must temp-root first.
full guide here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1152233. It involves adb command, so if you're not familiar with these, get someone who have the knowledge to help you
Hi guys, I have a HTC Desire and I want to root it. I have already do it with other Desire but this one have an USB port failure, it is break and I can't plug on a PC.
So, do you know an application like Z4ROOT or Universal Androot for a HTC Desire 2.2, please ?
Thank you
Visionary
see this guide part 11
Thank you, but I've tried it and after the warning message "rooting device, please wait" in Visionary, I have a black screen. I waited for more than 5 minutes and it's the same black screen.
An idea for this ?
This phone is S-ON, can this be a problem ?
what software version you running?
or you can try this... It is about usb brick but you can get temp root in terminal then install superuser, no idea if it is working this way(as i did not try it, i have my phones s-off, easier way to sort out problems)... but you can get temp root with rageagainstthecage, saved my usb brick on 2.29.405

On the official topic, several people have the same problem like him and others below : android.modaco.com/topic/320350-19nov-r14-visionary-one-click-root/page__st__240__p__1611566#entry1611566
did you update your phone recently? even unrevoked has this problem with new software which came out recently... what is cause of your non working usb?
Thanks for your help.
It was not my phone before yesterday and it seems that the Sofware number 2.29.405.14 came out in December 2011... Maybe this is it, but on the official topic of Visionary, people have this problem in february 2011 and before.
About the USB, it's not a software brick but a hardware problem, the connector is break on a corner.
it could be related some OTA update made it non working... tried that rageagainstthecage method?
I will study it, thank you
I managed to downgrade to version 2.29.405.2 and I have my phone temproot with Visionary. So I flashed the recovery with ROM Manager successfully but when I restart in recovery I only have a red triangle next to a phone and a freeze...
A solution to this, please?
Don't use ROM manager(it is causing more trouble than it is worth, mine experience + a lot of others)... try to use 4 ext recovery updater/control from market as you have a root
Hi Guys
As per the title I am struggling to get my dhd S-off / rooted / clockwork installed. Iv read and read and thought ok im ready so I downloaded ace hack and all my ADB drivers are installed.
So turned on phone (usb debugging enabled) run ace as admin and pushed 1.
It recognized the phone and said cannot continue must downgrade, do you want me to downgrade y/n?
So I thought well yeah so it downloaded the file and pushed it to my sd card, and then rebooted into hboot and the phone auto found the file and started loading it.
When finished flashing, it rebooted and just hung on the HTC screen. that's as far as I have got. I did see the hboot version had changed but that's all. So the only thing I could do was to Flash a RUU to get the phone working again. (Which worked)
Here is info about phone:
Android version - 2.3.5
Htc Sense Version - 3.0
Software number - 3.12.405.1
Kernel Version - 2.6.35.10-g931a37e
[email protected]#1
Wed Nov9 14:04:03 CST 2011
Baseband Version - 12.65.60.29U_26.14.04_28_M
Build Number - 3.12.405.1 CL199157
If someone can point me in the right direction I would really appreciate it.
I cant understand why these seem harder when my GS3 was very easy.
Maybe its just me :silly:
Edit forgot to say that after flashing RUU I went to htcdev and unlocked bootloader. (don't no if that's going to make a difference)
If you've unlocked with HTC dev, you're one step closer to flashing roms.
See if you can install a custom recovery, and then flash the rom you want. However, to get it booting you'll have to push the boot image via adb after you flash a rom (it'll be in the respective rom's .zip file, just copy it out), otherwise you'll be stuck on the splash screen.
It's a hassle compared to normal flashing if you rooted with aahk, but at least you'll get something going.
I haven't used the later versions of aahk, I rooted back in sense 2.2 days, can't help you there.

just got to push that to the phone then I could run ace hack and s-off / root etc.. etc..?

Foxy, if your phone Was downgraded You Need To run the hack Kit again. That You are running Android 2.3.3 And sense 2.1....if You are not, then You are not downgraded And You Need to achive that first.
