[Q] root failure HTC Desire using unrEVOked 3.32

Hello,
I tried to root my HTC Desire using unrEVOked 3.32
I did instal the HBOOT drivers,
I have a HTC Desire:
-Android 2.2
-hboot 0.93.0001
-Basebandversion - 32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27
-Kernel 2.6.32.15-gf5a401c htc-kernel and18-2 #1
-Build: 2.29.405.5 CL293415 release-keys
-Software number: 2.29.495.5
Can anyone help me?

Seems to work for some, but I had no issues rooting 2.29.405.5 using 3.32

2. Can you say what is going wrong? Error message?? Brick??
I had problem too with installing new recovey via unrevoked, going from amon-ra to clockwork.. Had either message that it could'n enter Nand or that connection was lost previously.. Haven't solved it yet..

I couldn't get it to work for a while (I was already rooted & S-Off but I was trying to update ClockworkMod Recovery because my ADB wasn't working) eventually I managed to get it working by installing HTC Sync (even though it says not to). The new one wouldn't work at first but I found a link to an old version (2 I think) then updated to the newest version Got everything working now

Maybe you don't have enough available space in internal memory. I also had the same problem and I was at 18 MB free space. I freed then some space and it worked, because it installs something temporary before the phone restarts.

at least unrEVOked said it was done.
And ROM manager dosn't give the message anymore that it can't get root acces.

i try it in the same way and i was having same configuration, First y downgraded to 2.1 stock and the work like charm unrevoked

[Q] Confused--Just want factory clean!

Hi, I recently purchased a secondhand HTC Desire Z off eBay that had been both unlocked from Bell Wireless and had a custom rom installed on it. I am having an impossible time figuring out what to do and when to do it--what I want is a Desire Z that is running the stock rom (which I currently don't have and no not where to download) that has been overclocked anywhere up to 2GHz. I would also like all of my applications to function normally (currently YouTube videos will not play). Here is all of the software info:

I've tried rooting it with Visionary, which doesn't work (I get a black screen after it attempts to root for about 20 seconds).
Please, step-by-step instructions would be greatly valued. I'm currently using a Mac, but I have Windows 7 installed on a Bootcamp partition, so if you may give me instructions in either terminal or cmd; either works.

There is a guide for reverting back to stock in the wiki however, not having a backup of a partition that is changed in the process of rooting, you won't be able to return the phone to an "out of the box" state. If you're just wanting the stock ROM, just download the stock ROM (check the sticky in the dev section) and flash it to your device.

What is the ultimate purpose of that partition that I can no longer get back? Is it going to drastically effect how the phone runs?

Basically, removing root capability. If you just want a stock ROM, just check the sticky (sorry, I'd link to it if I weren't on the XDA app) in the dev thread for a list of available stock ROMs.

The problem is that I don't currently have root access. Visionary is crashing, I tried using rage, which was also unsuccessful; I'm unable to install or manage roms using Rom Manager because of the lack of root access. Can I force the rom onto the phone and force install it using adp? Thanks in advance.

It looks like you're already rooted considering that the Virtuous ROM has already been flashed to your device.
Can you boot into CWM by powering on with the power+vol down combination?

I can boot into CWM, but I can't manage roms using the rom manager app. I have to download clockworkmod, but rom manager claims to not have permission to do that. I am unable to go to superuser and give it permissions. How would I go about putting the stock rom on the device and installing it?

Have a look at the development forum -- as of now, there are some stock or nearly stock ROMs (albeit rooted) available for download.
Afterwards, place the .zip on your sdcard, reboot into CWM and install from there.

I'll try it tonight and let you know how it works. Thanks in advance!

I am also trying to revert my phone back to factory settings for warranty purposes and I used clockworkmod to go back to my original rom but I cannot find the original recovery image to put back so s-off can be turned back on. Every thread I read says to download a file similar to pc10img.zip and go into bootloader so it will load except boot loader says "wrong image" or "image not found" what do do and where can I get a good file

Thank you so much; it all worked out! I updated the rom to the 2.4 version of xboarder56's Gingerbread. Everything works, and it's overclocked to 1.5GHz--fast enough to play N64 roms on N64oid at full speed (pretty much the reason I bought this phone, lol).

and didn't understand if i have to downgrade my DHD as well or is my version old enough so i can skip right ahead to the S-Off and ROOT?
can anyone tell me from what ver., and Ver. of what, do you have to perform downgrading?

how to root gingerbread
hi everybody,
forgive me if I' writing in the wrong place but for me has been enough difficult to get here..
I'm a rookie android user and I've been flying over the forums for the last three days, I'm really getting crazy.
Here are the specifics of my phone (branded):
android version 2.3.3
kernel version 2.6.35.10-gd2564fb
software number 2.50.405.2
and here's the problem:
I have purchased an AR drone and I'm trying to get it connected so I visited the following link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1072281
seems that the first thing i need is a ROOTED Desire HD . I have tried every thing. Visionary (in different releases installed with ASTRO) seems not to be working. When i select Temproot now, after a while, the screen turns black. I waited for several minutes but nothing happened. So I needed to exit the program selecting "home". At that point it didn't allow me to rerun the app, I needed to reboot the phone to get it working again but no success.
So I tried GINGERBREAK 1.2 but after 25 minutes the rebooting process was still going on and I guessed that something was not working properly (as usual), so I stopped it. I think there is also a problem with Superuser (v 2.3.6.3), infact when I try to update it, it says "an error occurred and su was not updated. A zip file (su-2.3.1-bin-signed.zip) has been placed on your sdcard, please reboot into recovery mode and flash it to update your su binary" (by the way...sorry for my inexperience, but what does "flash something" mean????).Anyway, my phone doesn't reboot on clockwork recovery.
Moreover, upon opening Rom manager (v4.3.2.4) it tells me that I must root my phone to get it working (of course) and that it cannot find Superuser at "system/bin/su" or "system/xbin/su". Guess what! I don't have such files on my phone.....
At this time i don't know what else I can do, I'm relly frustrated.
Can anyone help me out? keep in mind that if you have any kind of solution, I need some very "plain" explanation like if you were talking to your 5 years old son, please

I clicked Temproot now and a screen comes about rooting and after this screen goes to black and nothing.and after phone works so slowly
2-Gingerbreak
When I click Root Device there is a dialog box and write;
Rooting
Running exploit...
This may take a few minutes!
Device will be reboot on success!
this dialog box can wait 10 days but never close so its not working.
3-SuperOneClick
it seems work firstly but it comes to this line;
Running psneuter...
and after nothing again.

Do you all know that it is nessecarily to downgrade your device ROM Software to Version 1.32 or 1.72??
You CAN NOT ROOT your device with Gingerbread or Android 2.x the easy way.
Check this and download your ROM 1.2x or 1.3x or 1.7x for your current provider.
Flash it - and after all ROOT it.

he asked for the rom build version not the kernel version. but anyway this kernel version indicates a gingerbread rom version. as he said above you need to downgrade. look up jkojos post.

I tried 3 files but they didnt flash it. its telling about wrong file..

you cannot root any newer desire hd build, you must downgrade first, to downgrade you must temp-root first.

[Q] I've had some rooting/flashing problems and could use some guidance.

Decided I wanted to liberate my HTC One V from the preloaded apps. I used Hoosan2000's tool to unlock the bootloader. That went fine, but somewhere along the line I got click-happy and changed something I shouldn't have and got the "This build is for development purposes only..." splash screen problem. I could restart into the bootloader, but trying to go into recovery would only reboot into the HTC splash screen. I've been poring over this forum and a variety of other google results for a week and I have the phone in a state of "sort of working." I can now boot into Clockwork Mod Recovery, but when I click on any of the options, instead of bringing up more options, it just goes to the blank CWM background screen (the tophat). I can start the phone and actually get it to boot into stock Sense (it appears to be stock Sense now at least...certainly none of my old stuff is present), but WiFi is stuck in "turning on." I *think* I have Superuser privelages, but, beyond having SuperSU installed on there, I don't know how to tell if my phone is properly rooted or of what use that would be to me, as the only way to boot up into Sense is through the "install superboot.bat" file when I have it hooked up to the computer via USB.
In summation, I'd like to get this phone working, whether it is a custom ROM or just back to Stock. I've got my old Samsung Mez for the time being, but it has a whole host of other problem and is not reliable. Being new to this, I am just having trouble parsing a lot of the abbreviations and jargon I find in tutorials, so if any of you are able and willing to just give me guidance, I feel like I am close to resolving this issue.

Like I said, I just want this phone back up and running. No longer care if I get to put a custom ROM on it or not (although it seems like it would be easier to put a custom one on there as I, for the life of me, haven't been able to find the stock version that I had originally anywhere to flash to...no, I didn't make a backup. Any help would be really appreciated. I swear I have searched these forums and found a lot of useful info here, but I am stuck at an impasse and I don't know what to do next. Feel like I am gingerly walking the line of "I will fix this and it will be ok" and "I will brick this and my wife is gonna be pissssssed" and I am sure you all can guess which side I want to land on.

You will fix this and it will be ok. I had the same problem with that version of CWMrecovery; updating to a newer version or to TWRP ought to help.

TWRP: http://www.teamw.in/project/twrp2/120 (you'll want to follow the recovery image method, since you can't properly boot into your phone, I think)
Having a working recovery should make the whole thing a whole lot easier, so that would be my next step. From what you've said, since you can still get into recovery I assume you can get into your bootloader and so you should be able to install whichever one?
I think Superuser roots as part of the installation process, although I'm not 100% sure on that.

Using hansoon to help you " one click root " had you flash a kernel (boot.img) I'm almost positive that since you are US Cellular CDMA and not Virgin Mobile CDMA the modules for a working WiFi are not in your stock Rom. Causing the ' WiFi turning on ' delima.
Personally I've never used CWMrecovery for more than a day, but I do know that if you flash the recovery.img of CWM then try to boot into recovery and you have issues.... Then flash a different custom recovery ( don't boot it though ) and reflash the CWM one again. Worked for me. But then I discovered TWRP and never looked back.
