Currently I have a deal going to trade my inc2 for and thunderbolt. Mainly for the 4g. But since I have achieved s-off and cwm recovery. Not sure where the problem may ly. I'm on the stock Rom which I backed up before I flashed CM7 so I am totally stock other than recovery.
Question is will that matter if we swap at a Verizon store or should we do it by our selves

if you do it at the store they may be like oh well this voids your warranty so they wont care if it's s-OFF

So they sent me another dinc, not the dinc2 like they said. I guess there's no way to argue that eh?
Should I root it with unrevoked before I activate it to avoid the posibility of the GB update pushing automaticaly?
To my knowledge, you have to accept the update supposing it is truly rolling out. If Verizon really disliked you, the phone would have gingerbread pre-installed though haha
Go ahead and activate the phone and come back to the root side of Android.
Naw they didnt send it preinstalled luckilly,I'm also happy I have the inc1. Much more support.
I did get jittery and rooted it before activating. All the phone info pre-activation is the same and given how the changes are made in the radio. I don't see having a problem
Good to know. I wouldn't have though about rooting before activating, but you should be all set now.
Yup,activation went through without a hitch so I'm back in
Business(sense). One weird thing that happened was
my WiFi broke after flashing .92 hboot but after flashing
a rom it worked again. Im not going to think much of it
because everything is up an running
is there any reason that I SHOULD NOT accept the verizon ota update after rooting?
Just got home and rooted it 10 minutes ago and haven't gotten around to flashing a rom yet.
generally, regardless of your phone, once you've rooted it's best not to do any OTA update as it can screw up your phone.
if it's one of those "i absolutely need this OTA!" deals, then it'd be best to un-root first, apply it, then re-root.
It's risky....Least it will do is install and unroot. Worst you could be stuck in the stock recovery....and that's not a fun thing to mess with.... If it bothers you your better off just flashing CWM and a new rom.
yeah I'm going to flash a new rom and forget about it.
Looks like android revolution is gonna be the first attempt.. any suggestions otherwise?

Im on revolution and it is still nagging for ota update any way to disable the nag?
For other phones, you most definitely do NOT want to accept OTA's. For this phone though, the bootloader can be locked and unlocked at will, so OTA's should be okay to accept, in theory. ;-)
If you want to be absolutely sure though, just listen to the general advice of "don't accept OTA's".
I'm using the HOX for about 2 months now, quite satisfied with it and have no issues.
I used to be on a HTC HD2 which was actually on Windows Mobile 6.5, so had to turn it to an Android, been from Froyo days. I had no android stock ROM and never feared warranty because at that time HTCDev didn't matter and have seen rooted HD2 get covered by warranty when they were returned with WinMo on them.
Now I'm aware that if I root via HTC dev, I will lose my warranty, but will they charge me if there's really hardware issues in the warranty period.
Now to the Point, real advantages which I feel I will really benefit after rooting.
1. Call recording
2. Getting updates faster
3. Probably better performance, I love sense, so won't go to any AOSP ROM even for performance.
etc.. please tell me
Disavantages:
1. I will lose my warranty
2. No OTA, I doubt if I will regret this.
Also, to root do I need to have S-OFF via htcdev.com, please guide me guys.

regarding the real advantages of why to root you answered that already yourself. regarding losing warranty if you unlock your phone. you will lose your warranty if for example you overclock your phone and the motherboard gets fried. that is due third party software which HTC does not like and that would cost you your warranty. now if you have screen flickering issues or just something with the phone build is not right then the warranty covers you.
regarding OTA you can still update. first backup the rom you are on (which is stock) make sure you always have that backup. then go ahead and unlock and root. then when an OTA gets released all you do is restore your backup stick stock recovery again and update. simple as that really. and then just stick custom recovery back and root your phone and you will be updated of course..and every time you do the update make sure you backup the updated rom you just installed with OTA..
s-off is still being worked upon...you can unlock the phone through htcdev.com which then you can root but you will not get s-off
The advantages of rooting an Android phone:
1. Have full access to your device..
2. Backup and restore the whole system..
3. Running special programs that cannot be use in non-rooted Android..
4. Flash custom ROMs..yeah..this is the most wanted feature for me!
5. Tweak you Android like a boss..
You can run adaway and adfree when rooted!

haha very true...best and good reason to root alone i say..how could i forget that
ok I'm not new to rooting and roming I'm coming off a rooted and Romed atrix 4g. My question is I was going to root my att s3 with the s3 root tool kit http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1746665 which allows you to root and flash a custom recovery. but what I didn't see is a way to unlock the bootloader. I didn't know if that would be required, to flash a custom rom, I know I had to do that with my atrix. If so does anyone have any easy link for unlocking the bootloader. also I had heard that some people have had issues after root connecting to att lte. I wouldn't think it would matter since the apn's wouldn't change. thanks ahead of time for any help, and call me a noob if you want, I could care less.
Don't use that as I believe it will trip your flash counter.
Use the no trip root guide located in the android development section.
Also, you do not have to unlock the bootloader, it is already unlocked, you just have to get rooted by flashing with Odin and then install a recovery. I recommend TWRP which can be easily installed through goo manager once you are rooted.
The issues with LTE are not associated with rooting, but rather with flashing AOSP based ROMs but I do believe they have fixed most or all of those issues.
Lastly, I too cane from an Atrix and the S3 is a bazillion times better. I reccommend Triune 2 for a custom ICS ROM (avoid touchwiz JB ROMs for now) and Task650's AOKP ROM. Also, ktoonsez has the best kernel available with up to a 2.1GHz oc.
Cheers, PM me fellow atrix user if you need any other assistance.

yea i saw the other method too. maybe I'll go that way. i wasn't to worried about the whole tripping the flash counter. since it looks like chainfire has a fix. although it sounded like that could be more risky than rooting. thanks for the answer about the bootloader and the lte issues. actually still on the atrix for the moment running nuetrino bc the first night i had the s3 i dropped it and completely cracked the screen. was a little disappointed since i have dropped my atrix countless times and never had an issue. oh well thanks for in store warranties.
Yeah, I've seen some people have had issues using the Triangle Away app, so it's better to just not trip the counter to begin with.

I got my Galaxy s4 as an insurance replacement from eSecuritel. Originally I had the S3 from my carrier and it didn't have this issue. I found out the phone had root from a backup app I had that detected it. I downloaded a root checker and verified I have root access. I had an issue with the phone and was told to go into recovery mode. There I found the original recovery mode had been replaced by one from Team Win, so I think I have a custom rom too? My backup app won't work because I must be missing something that didn't get put on from whoever did this. Mybackup pro is what I use. It won't reinstall my apps. Long story.
Basically I want to unroot and go back to a stock rom. I don't do this often enough to completely know what I am doing. I have rooted a phone before. My acer iconia tablet is rooted and has a custom rom. When I do this I will lose my ability to back up app data with mybackup pro. But samsung will support my phone.
The odd thing is, this happened with two different brand new, unopened Galaxy S4s. How can this be? Does the insurance company get them from some strange manufacturing facility? I chatted with Samsung and the representative knows nothing about Samsung doing this.
Download stock 4.3 firmware and then flash through Odin. That'll get you back to fully stock

Yeah it's no big deal . Like the other person said, just flash back to stock using odin. Here's a link to the stock ROM if you haven't done it already. Just search stock galaxy s4 rom on google and it should be on the galaxyroot page
Hope that helped
If you are on 4.2.2 or (anything below 4.3), if you want completely stock, get TriangleAway to remove the flash counter (i.e., how many times the phone has had a custom rom flashed), then Odin flash the stock. This will show that you never touched your phone and it will be completely factory new. :good: But if you don't care about the flash counter (because your warranty is up or something), then you can just Odin flash the stock firmware and be good to go. :highfive:

I was just reading about the flash counter before I saw this reply. I do care because my phone was brand new when I received it a few days ago. I don't know how the heck I can have a brand new phone that is already rooted with a possible custom rom. Until a few minutes ago, I didn't know Samsung had such a counter on devices now.
I am a bit of a noob still despite having a little experience with this. I don't know which is the best stock rom (I have found a few). I have downloaded Odin. I have no clue what TriangleAway is.
I have been in contact with the place I got my phone from to find out what the heck happened. I shouldn't have to go through all this for a brand new phone. I doubt they can replace it with one that hasn't had this happen because they wont know which boxes have the affected phones as the boxes are unopened.
I know there are guides for this. I found them, closed the stupid window and now I can't find them again. I tried going through my history but there is so much in there it is hard to find.

Phones do not come pre-rooted with modified roms from the manufacturer. Contact whoever you got it from and request for a refund or exchange. TriangleAway is a app by Chainfire that resets a counter. This counter was used by Samsung to see if you messed with your ROM. Every time you flashed a ROM, your counter would go up by one. So if you flashed 4 roms, your counter will say "Flash counter: 4." TriangleAway resets that 0 so no one knows.
As far as best stock rom... well, they are stock. What do you mean best? lol. If you want 100% stock rom, then that is what you get. There are no variations. We can start talking about "best" only when you download ROMs that are modified by devs.
If you are on 4.2.2, here is the 100% STOCK ROM: http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/3/?download=14362
If you are on 4.3, or if you want to upgrade to 4.3, here is the 100% STOCK ROM: http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/3/?download=22280

Jeez I feel dumb. I got Triangle Away. It asked me if I wanted to grant it rights because I don't have super user access. I tapped ok and it closed.
Sooo your phone wasn't rooted all this time? Haha :x

Then why does my backup pro and root checkers say I do? And why is there a team win custom recovery mode when I restart in recovery mode? I don't know if it matters but I can also go into download mode.

You have a custom recovery (TWRP). You probably have root (which has nothing to do with recovery) but you didn't give TA access.
