Hi guys. I have a rooted desire running hboot .80, after installing a new rom and rebooting my phone became stuck at the htc boot screen. I am able to run CM recovery but all roms installed will just go to the htc screen again. When accessing fastboot I get the no image error. I have seen some similar situations, but not this exact problem. Any help would be very appreciated.

are you doing a full wipe before flashing the roms? data, system, cache, dalvik cache, boot?
yes, doing full wipe..... roms appear to be installing correctly..... reboot to HTC screen
Go back to stock and start again
Looks like you got a old hboot so I'm thinking you will have an old radio giv them a update and you should be fine

hey Eddie, I can only mount my desire as a storage device. Is there any way to go back to stock with CM?

Well, you can flash an RUU. But you can use this method, which is get the P******IMG onto the root of your SD card and then boot up to the bootloader and press up and continue with the set up. This should bring you to stock. Please run this, http://dl.dropbox.com/u/13240777/Desire Downgrade.ZIP , Extract the files to your destop and run the win-down.bat file and follow instructions. Do this before the p****IMG thing. It will prevent errors from occurring. Just follow the instructions and you should be fine. Please dont blame me if anything goes wrong and research more before continuing but you should be fine cos i did it more then once. If this is unclear, just PM me and il make it more understandable because i did this in a rush.
Hope this helps you!
The PB99IMG.zip of 2.29.405.2 is already on shipped-roms (I uploaded it on there)
Here's a clearer way to do it. cleaned up.
This should work for you
WAIT, BEFORE YOU START, CREATE A GOLDCARD. IT IS VERY NECESSARY. THINGS WILL GO WRONG IF YOU DONT.
EDIT: YOU MUST BE ABLE TO BOOT GO TO THE BOOTLOADER MENU.
Firstly, download this file. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/13240777/Desire Downgrade.ZIP
Extract the files.
Run the win-down.bat file.
Follow on screen instructions.
After the process is completed, Head to the root of your SD card and check if there is a file named P99***IMG (FORGOT THE EXACT NAME BUT IT SHOULD BE SOMETHING LIKE THIS) there should be one.
Secondly, disconnect your phone and turn it off.
After that boot up your phone while pressing the volume down button and the power button.
The bootloader should be checking for files after awhile and once it found the file that is supposed to be in the root of your sd card, press the volume up button (NOT EXACTLY SURE, SHOULD BE THE ONE THAT SAYS YES AND CONTINUE)
It should be writing files to your phone. and replaces everything. E.G: HBOOT, RECOVERY,RADIO and such.
It should be writing files successfully and then it would ask you to reboot. Continue with the reboot and you should be having your Desire back to stock. Perfect.
PLEASE KEEP IN MIND THAT THERE ARE RISKS INVOLVED LIKE FAILURE OF WRITING TO THE HBOOT. PLEASE REMEMBER TO FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS. MAINLY, DO NOT BLAME ME FOR ANYTHING THAT GOES WRONG.
FINALLY, YOU SHOULD BE READING EVERYTHING UP TO HERE AND THAT YOU MUST HAVE A GOLDCARD (A GOLD SD CARD)
Hope this helps you and please ask if you have further questions. PM me if the questions cannot be answered here. Good Luck
Oh yes, the PB99IMG is already in the zip file. you don't need too download it from shipped-roms.com unless you want a specific one
Everything appears to be working again, thanks for all the help!!!!! On a side note, as I couldn't enable debugging I had to transfer the IMG file over and run it from phone like a rom. Otherwise just as was stated.
Help! I just rooted my new Desire with the unrevoked method. Then I installed Rom Manager, saved its recovery mode and backed up my ROM. Everything seemed to go well enough, but now my Desire is stuck endlessly rebooting to the HTC Screen.
I can access the Clockmod Recovery screen however. I've tried the system reboot option but that just gets me the Htc screen rebooting again and again.
I'm pretty much a newbie to this and didn't want to choose another option (wipe data/factory reset, restore saved rom) without checking it out as I don't want to brick my new Desire.
Could someone give me a step by step plan for recovering my Desire?
Many thanks,
Joe
Nice thing you have a nandroid backup. Just restore the backup. it should work.

You have to wipe all the data and just flash a new Rom.

stuck on htc screen after using rom manager
Thanks for this. A couple of other newbie questions. As I understand it, I wipe the data using the Recovery option, and I found the how to flash a rom instructions. If I want a stock rom (like the one that came with the Orange Desire here in the UK) where would I get that? And do you think it might work if I restored the first backup I made, or do you think that's faulty...
Thanks again,
Joe
stuck on htc screen after using rom manager
Things went from bad to worse. My battery seemed to stop charging so I wasn't able to get back to the recovery screen, and when I plugged the desire into the computer via the usb cable I simply got a flickering htc screen. I've had to send it back to Orange.
This experience has certainly made me leary of rooting and using rom manager again!
Does anybody have any explanation of what went wrong?
Joe
When the phone gets stuck in that loop when its trying to boot it wont charge, im not sure why.
The same thing happend to me using Rom manager. (maybe its a bug with the new version, or maybe we just didnt use it right)
I managed to get my phone to charge by taking out the battery and putting it back in ... so the phone was off, put it into the charger until it was fully charged and then did the recovery.
Battery affected by rom manager?
There's an addendum to this story. I replaced my Desire but had the same problem again, which seemed to be down to the battery in the end. Is it possible that the (virtually new) battery was affected by either rooting or rom manager backing up the rom? It seems very weird!
Joe
This might work for you

Thanks for the long reply. Sadly, I'm unable to test it out as I had to return my phone to Orange. I'm still rather mystified by what happened in the end (how could rooting affect a battery?) but I'll keep your reply on hand in case it happens next time I root.

Just rooted my new DINC, got into the main screen. Went into Clockwork and flashed a nandroid from a different device. Now I cant even get back into CWM. If I hold down and power I get hboot, but anything after that gives me 5 vibrations and blinking green lights. wtf?>
I can actually see CWM for a second, then i get the errors. Is there a bootable CWM, like the NookColor?

put this on your sdcard, rename to PB31IMG.ZIP
boot into hboot, when it asks to apply the update, say yes
give that a shot
for future reference, nandroids from phones are not interchangeable
I dont know how to use ADB, and that tutorial assumes you can run zips via recovery, which I cant...
Isn't there a PMBTG113.zip or whatever file I can boot off of in recovery that will restore my phone to stock

Do you have a micro sd card reader that you can put into your pc or laptop? You need to get that PB31IMG on the root of your card. Then get into hboot to flash.

Yea, I put it onto the root, applied the PB31IMG and rebooted. Same fcking problem. WTF?!?!
DroidHam,
try pulling the battery, wait around 10 minutes, put the battery in and boot the phone. Yes, it is very important to wait for that long.
Post your results if it booted or not, i had the same issue.
Also let me know if this is a refurbished phone.
ya its a refurb...
I downloaded this:
build-3.26.605.1-release-152016-baseband-2.15.00.07.28-hboot-0.92.0000_PB31IMG
Renamed it and it flashed. Then when I rebooted, it doesn't show me CWM anymore, just the HTC screen, a "popping, kind of electric noise", and then 5 vibrations and blank screen, with green blinking LED.
I downloaded the restore above, and renamed it. It doesn't allow me to flash it. It scans it, but never gives me the option to press up to flash.
Keep in mind, S-ON is now set, whereas it was S-Off before.
Previously I was seeing CWM for a split second then it would crash. I dont see CWM anymore but its still crashing at the same point.
If I copied a nandroid backup onto a different phone, it cant be COMPLETELY ****ed right? Just needs to be rebuilt somehow?
So when I put the battery back in in 10 minutes, should I reflash that RUU I mentioned above, or what?
Any ideas?? Going on day 3 w no phone......

I noticed you mentioned that while powering on you say you are holding down...down is diagnostic mode, you should be holding up to get to recovery.

How do I root if i can't get past hboot??!
Sent from my LogicPD Zoom2 using XDA App
I attempted to root a new Incredible for a friend and had the same thing happen a few days ago. I was able to create a nandroid backup via CWM recovery, and then flashed CM 6.1. CM then bootlooped when trying to boot for the first time. After this point I was unable to get into recovery. The screen would just go blank and would vibrate multiple times. At one point I did manage to succesfully get into CWM recovery without the screen going blank, but then recovery would not recognize the SD card. I restarted and was never able to get back into recovery.
I then attempted to flash a PB31IMG.ZIP from HBOOT that was supposed to restore it to factory state. At this point the phone when blank in the middle of flashing and would not do anything other than vibrate when I would attempt to power it on.
I told them the phone just inexplicably died and they exchanged it at the Verizon store. Everything went perfect with the replacement phone. I figured what happened was a one time thing, but after reading this I would definately be hesitant to root anyone elses Incredible.
Do all phones have hboot?? I don't wanna get screwed. But this was sent was Asurion.... i really need to fix this. There must be a way please!!!

Just got off work... do the battery pull, wait 10 min, then the start phone see what happens.
I'm not sure at what point you are with the RUU image at this point so take out your sd card just to be safe.
You are getting into the Qualcomm diagnostic mode, which is basically 5 buzzes and then the green light keeps flashing green correct?
I will be on and off for the next few hours to see your results.

5 vibrate = defective usb plug/phone... time for nother refurb. theres a couple posts on it, happened to me.
I don't know much.. but I'm pretty sure this thread is in the wrong section. Mods should move this to Q&A or General...
Yesterday when i was browsing from my HTC Desire, it crashed a lot, and then suddenly there was a message saying something like "cant save smses" and desire started reporting running out of space.
Somehow i restarted the phone, and now it's stuck in a loop. Boots up the HTC logo with silently brilliant, and then restarts.
My Desire is not rooted. and i have dont wanna lose my data .
Is there anyway i could clear the cache enough to atleast get the phone up and running.
I can get into HBoot(0.93.0001) recovery, but cant seem to wipe the cache , because of no space issue again.
I have adb installed and can see the device but it appear offline. Tried to clear cache from fastboot, but didnt fix it, since i dont think it realy did anything.
I've searched a lot, researched too, learnt a lot too.
My desire is S-ON, and recovery is default stock one. i guess cant root it or make it S-OFF without actually making it to boot normal first.
would be very grateful if anyone can suggest me a way to fix it without losing my data.
Thanks
I have the exact same problem with my parents Desire and need to find a way to save it. It happened yesterday too, the phone is stock and 3 branded.
I think there is no way to resolve problem without lose data. Maybe you can try, flash only system img., but I am not sure about data...
Have you tried booting into safe mode? If this works you can delete some stuff and the phone will work again.
1 Turn off your phone
2 Hold down the Menu button
3 Turn the phone on (keep Menu held) and wait for the phone to start up
4 When your phone’s started you’ll see it saying Safe Mode in the bottom left. You can let go of Menu now!
Safe mode doesnt work.
is it possible to flash a smaller system image through recovery and gain enough space to boot like Stefi mentioned?
If I had more time, I would try it instead of you, but I have to study for examination period. Sorry
BTW: Img file must be flashed through fastboot, or GC and PB99IMG.
Just reminder S-ON !!!
How can you flash it via fastboot? Nand is locked!!!! If clearing storage will not help you need to reflash CORRECT RUU for your phone...
Sent from my HTC Sensation XE with Beats Audio using XDA Premium App
if you can use stock recovery, try this one aroma file manager. try to delete unwanted apk to free space or move important data to sdcard.
i'm not sure it will work if your desire is still S-ON.
kotag82: It was only list of possibilities to flash img files...
But I have to apologise for mystification. Personally I though it’s possible to modify original PB99IMG by deleting some part and flash through GC. But I was fail. Sorry
agismaniax: In the end, I restored S-ON on my Desire and tried this too, however result was verification fail... .
thanks stefi, for checking all those.
So there is no way out of this without actually losing data ey?
Just thinking whether i should hold on to the desire for a while or should i factory reset and move on.

A friend rooted it over a year ago.
Everything worked fine, so we flashed a ROM. (don't remember which one)
That worked fine, then few days later things on the phone started to fail. Slowly more and more things failed. Then I was forced to reboot the phone.
When I rebooted It stuck on boot screen. now I get those logs in recovered that I originally posted.
To say the worse, it sounds like a corrupted file system acutally . You can get to HBOOT screen right? (Vol + Power On)

Yes, I can get there very easily.
Is a corrupt file system irreversible? That sounds like something where I could just replace the files with non-corrupt ones...maybe? haha as you can see I know nothing.

Erm.. I'm not too sure, it could be just maybe a small error fixable by 'replacing', but then again it could be a physical damage (bad sectors, but those are usually very very rare).
If your bootloader does function fine, it could be the former (though not being able to mount in recovery sounds like a bad sector). It is possible that you can load a rom through ur sd card and restore it through the bootloader. (I'm still learning that part). Be very very very careful! You can actually make your phone not work! Do a lot of research, and don't rush! Hopefully someone with much more experience can help from here on.
I'll explain here: if your phone does not boot, usually it could mean that some files cannot be read or are missing, so the phone will not boot android. The fact that the recovery states that it cannot mount the filesystem could mean that there is a possibility that your memory filesystem may be corrupted. But, since it can boot the bootloader without problems, there is a high possibility that the problem lies in the recovery files being problematic themselves. In that case, you can load a original rom (BE VERY CAREFUL BEFORE YOU DO SO, I ASKED HERE, so this could be a jumping board for you.). A mention, u must be careful, loading a full ROM includes loading the bootloader as well, so it may cause your phone to not even load the bootloader.
I really think someone with better experience should help from here on, i dont want to brick your phone :/

Okay, I tried what you said but no success. My ClockworkMod seems to not be mounting. Because of the Errors I posted previously in my first post. So this way I can't flash anything from recovery because it will just stay on that screen with the top hat and the orange circle with the arrow. Nothing happens. If I tap the power button, it just goes back to the menu.
Should I be updating clockwork somehow?
Is there another way to flash?
Could there be a problem with my SD's? (i've tried on 2 different ones)
Do you have any ideas?
This is an educated guess, but you might want to try flashing the stock firmware back onto the phone and trying again, and ensure the MD5s match. You could even follow the instructions in the wiki to give CyanogenMod ROM a try; that's what I'm using now and is the more widely developed and recognizable ROM that I know of.
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/TMobile_G2:_Firmware_Downgrade_(Gingerbread)
Firstly, don't select stuff with power button in clockwork, use the camera or trackpad.
Secondly, those errors may indicate a bad emmc, which is a hardware defect, and cannot be fixed. More info here
You can either go for a warranty replacement, or you can boot cm7.1 from your sdcard, using Catherall's instructions

Sure, I can try that. Is there a step by step....don't really know what im doing.
Almost 100% you have a bad emmc, there is no fix for this, nipqer sent you a guide to run an os off your sdcard and this may be your only 'fix'
You can try and flash a new recovery via fastboot and a rom as well. But my best guess is your sol, try to warranty it if possible, run os off sd, or sell it for parts and get a new one

Dude This happened to me too first if you downgraded to froyo and if you kept a nandroid backup of it restore to the froyo nandroid backup BE SURE THE NANDROID BAKUP OF THE FROYO VERSION IS A ROOTED ONE OR ELSE YOU'LL BRICK YOUR PHONE OR SCREW UP THE ROOT!! then after that flash another ROM using fastboot in bootloader mode
okay heres what to do
1.Open A CMD window in windows
2.Navigate to the folder where you have fastboot for example cd...
cd...
cd /
C:\Android SDK\Platform Tools
then you should also have ADB at the same folder together with Fastboot
then plug your phone while it fastboot mode in Bootloader
it should say "FASTBOOT USB"
3.Then verify that your computer recognizes your Phone by typing "fastboot devices" without (" ")
4.put the ROM.zip on the same folder where you have Fastboot and ADB
5. type in fastboot clear cache (I don't know the exact command but you need to clear cache)
6. AFTER CLEARING CACHE TYPE IN "fastboot flash zip ROM.zip (REPLACE "ROM" with the right ROM name it ahould be like ICS.zip or whatever your gonna flash
7. just let it do its job
8.Celebrate if it worked =))
PM me if you need more help
SOMEONE PLEASE CORRECT ME IF I DID SOMETHING WRONG
