Morning people. Just have question in relation to unrooting h3g UK branded desire. I need to send back to get q minor hardware problem fixed. My software info is as follows.
andriod version 2.2
baseband version 32.48.00.32U_5.11.05.14
kernel version 2.632.15-g5d39305 htc-kernel at and18-2#1
build number 2.25.771.1 CL254759 release-keys
*software number 2.25.771.1
*browser version webkit 3.1
I also have the newer model which when rooted via unrevoked does not give s-off.
I have a goldcard and would just like to get a definitive answer. Will using the Rom for h3g on shipped roms website unroot my phone. Bear in mind I cannot back up my current Rom
thanx in advance!
the at is the sign but can't post it due to link rules for new users1
Yes, it will unroot your phone.
Swyped from Oxygen
Thanx for tje reply. Any suggestions on which one to use. Also how do I use my gold card?
Use the latest h3g ruu which you can find on http://shipped-roms.com
Put your goldcard in your desire, run the downloaded exe and follow the instructions on the screen.

Thanx for the tips. It a real comfort having u guys around to put our noob minds at ease. Big help!
Actually could I ask one more thing. How would o go about rooting again. This time I can't flash a new Rom. I want to be able to back up my current Rom before using alpharev to change boot. Any suggestions?
To run alpharev, you need root access. If you have root access (probably with using unrevoked), you have a revovery with witch you can backup your current system.

So it should be. But due to my model I can't flash recovery. All that happens is after selecting recovery in CWM the screen goes black and I have to take tje battery out to start the phone. I done some research on tje web and it is due to the model of desire I have. UNREVOKED does not take s-off. I know I have to use alpharev to correct it but ad I can't flash recovery I am nervous to try. Any suggestions?

Clockwork does not work with pvt4 desires. You have to flash amonra recovery.
Sent from Oxygen
aaaaaa!! was looking at that, so i flash amonra and i can then flash recover. good. i canthen take the risk using alpharev. will the ruu work with pvt4 and the hboot that i havegot. saw something that indicates that it may need downgrading?
Yes, the ruu will work with your phone.
But i think you getting something wrong:
You cannot backup your hboot with recovery. If the s-off procedure by alpharev fails, your phone might be bricked. Now backup can protect you from this, because the bootloader (which gets changed in this s-off procedure) is the absolute base of your phone. If this one is bricked, your phone is not more than a paperweight.
in the meantime i have managed to replace CWM with AmonRa. I now have a current rom back up. If some thing goes wrong with the alpharev procedure, will this recovery image allow me to restore to the current state i have now. It sounds like it won't if i am getting you correctly?

The s-off procedure does not touch your phone or rather its current state.
I do not write the same thing a second time. My second last past answered your question. Maybe it's too late.

Someone else may be able to correct me, but in the fist line, your phone already told you that it is S-OFF, hence why it is not letting you do this again, probably not down to the kernel you are running.

What do you want to flash? A new radio? a different rom? Did you want to upgrade your version of cyanogenmod to the latest version. Download link and instructions for installing Cyanogenmod 7.0.0 RC4
Desire HD Radio thread on XDA-Developers
Hope this is of some use.
It is actually down to the kernel, please read the tool's requirements.. But that being said, you already have at least ENG S-OFF. You can check radio S-OFF in bootloader's system info, if the CID is 11111111, you have it.
To get radio S-OFF, flash Raidroid stockify series ROM and then run the tool again. You also have to get older radio, read the requirements...
Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk
I checked my CID and it says VODAP304, so it's a branded device.
I searched the forums for Radroid stockify ROM and I found this thread, but the info says "These ROMs are simply debranded and rooted stock roms...".
Can I flash a debranded ROM on a branded device? Also, there are no requirements in that thread, so I'm noot really sure what radio should I get. In fact, there are a few ROMs and I don't know which one is the correct for my phone.
One last thing, I made a goldcard, because I red that that's a requirement in order to flash ROMs to a branded device. Am I right?
Regards
Hi, as you have ENG S-OFF and clockworkmod, the branded CID does not affect anything. Raidroid does not have requirements. Every DHD ROM is compatible with every DHD device.
If you want to use my radio S-OFF tool, get the radio I recommend in my tool's thread.
Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk
I found a quick guide here and a detailed guide here about how to flash a radio. But they both say that my device must be radio s-off and eng s-off, and my device is only eng s-off, right? (I'm not sure about that, so please correct me if I'm wrong).
So, in order to flash a radio I need to do a radio s-off, but I'm not able because of the kernel that I'm using.
What should I do? Is it safe to flash a Raidroid stockift ROM, then flash the radio that you recommend in the radio s-off thread, and then do the radio s-off?
f that's not the way, could you tell me what to do first?
Regards
Yep, do it like this:
Download & flash Raidroid 1.32.405.6
Flash older radio, do not care about radio s-off
Get radio S-OFF using my tool
Flash any radio & ROM you like
I'm flashing the ROM right now. Should I do a full wipe? (I'm looking this guide)
It is always good to do that.
Great! I have been doing this all day, and I finally made it!
Now I'm planing to install the Android Revolution HD 4 ROM, so I'll make a full wipe again, but what if next month there is a 4.0.1? Should I do another full wipe?
Anyways, that is just a small question, as everything else went perfect. Thank you so much for you support!
Regards
Well it depends, it is always good to do a full wipe.. Mike will give instructions about that when the time comes. Full wipe is not always necessary.

Are you serious?
what u mean
It doesn't matter, which rom you are using. I used the CD-method to S-Off my Desire, but I think it should also work using vmware.
You can't prevent alpharev from changing your splash screen, but there are tools in this forum, which allow you to change it to whatever you want afterwards.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA Premium App
You can change the splash screen with Android Flasher - It can be found in the Developement sub-forum: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=794638
If you need a stock ROM, then you can either flash the RUU (You lose Root, S-Off) or flash a pre-rooted stock ROM (can be found in the Developement sub-forum).
S-Off via VMWare can be done, but if you are stuck use the USB or CD method instead (people reported issues with VMWare).
dont try to do S-OFF unless you are running stock rooted ROM
best is to run a RUU, then root, then go s-off
if you try to S-OFF while on a2sd+ or data2xxx rom, procedure will fail, and it might brick your phone (it fails after going past STEP3 - DONT UNPLUG YOUR P_HONE OR U WILL BRICK IT) but i unplugged it, and was ok, then RUU and again whole thing worked
I had problems with s-off on my stock sense rom (rooted).
I made a goldcard, rooted, then alpharev would not recognise my device.
Soon as I switched to rooted aosp rom (oxygen) it was fine!

Just flash stock rooted froyo, done the trick for me.
OP, just search for how to s-off, there are answers to all you questions available. I know that, as i only recently s-offed myself.
So, can i do this?
1. do nandroid backup
2. use froyo asia wwe ruu(im from singapore)
3. root with unrevoked
4. s-off with vmware
5. restore
But err, one question, if i was damn unlucky and brick my device, can i just use the RUU and restore it back?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1069600
Just follow the guide on the thread. If you brick your device, there is no way back. That's why its called brick. There are semi bricks, which can be fixed.

this make any difference between AlphaRev S-off?? or i need to go through this method also??
Just install a rom without A2SD (like Leedroid 2.4.1 no-A2SD or Teppic's rom) and then you can S-OFF your desire. I advice you to write the .img on a cd and then boot on this, you won't encounter any issue.
Afterwards you can apply a new splash on your Desire, like the stock one (which is available on alpharev website).

Bootloaders cannot be downgraded.
Are you using one of alpharev's r2 hboots (cm7 or oxygen)? If yes, you have to flash bravo downgrade first, because these both new hboots are locked. This means they cannot be overwritten. After you have flashed bravo downgrade, try to flash ruu again.

How do I check which bootloader I have? and what do you mean by Bravo downgrade?
All I can see in fastboot is "hboot 0.93.0001" It doesnt say wether its Alpharev or stock?

Boot into bootloader and check first line. What's written there?
I mean if you have one of my named bootloaders, you have to download bravo_downgrade.img from here:
http://alpharev.nl
After flashing this via fastboot you should be able to flash ruu successfully.

What do you mean by flashing through fasboot. I know how to apply .zip updates from recovery but how do you do it through fastboot? Does it need to be connected to a PC, any pre requisites for this method? I can see their are steps mentioned on the link you posted but I don't understand step 3. If you can clarify I will be very thankful.

Ohh I sort of get it now. The custom bootloader thingy can only be installed with S-OFF and I can only downgrade the bootloader with S-off which I don't have. So now I trying the RUU you mentioned. There are there vodaphone RUU's on the site. After trying all three, if they don't work, I have to S-off the device THEN run the Bravo downgrader and then flash any one of the three RUU's again, right?

RUU_Bravo_Froyo_Vodafone_UK_2.33.161.2_Radio_32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_157522_signed

32.49.00.32U < This is the radio obviously. Does it have to be match the radio on my device or not? (It does match by the way)

3) When I root a device, I can obviously install cracked APKs from other websites. What other advantages does rooting offer?

Mine worked because you wanted to flash an ruu which was too old for your phone.
The number "2.33.161.2" is referred to the software number of android or rather in this case of the android software number with vodafone branding.
32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27 is the radio.
1) You can use fastboot, flash different partition layouts or you can delete apps from /system/app while phone is running.
2) More space for your desire.
3) You can install custom roms, backup your apps and system with e.g. titanium backup or you can "take a picture" of your current system configuration with nandroid backup.
For more information, just use the search.
And do not forget to hit the thanks button.
Thanks. You are AWESOME.
Edit:
I forgot. I dropped my Desire a few weeks ago and the screen got cracked. I got the front glass replaced but now the proximity sensor stays ON all the time. SO when I make a call, the screen goes black and the ONLY way of getting the cell back in is removing the battery. I'll get the cell phone repaired in a week or two. Till then is there any app or any way I can disable the proximity sensor? I was using an MIUI rom before I flashed the RUU and it had an option under "Call settings" to turn off proximity sensor so I'm sure it can be done. Is there any other way to do this without having to go back to MIUI? :|

You can always update bootloader... if you have a goldcard then put the attached file in the root of your sd-card, and then boot into bootloader and wait for it do do it's thing.. when it prompts you select yes. This will update your bootloader to version 0.93.1002
You shouldn't lose any data, but do make a backup of the ROM in recovery in case you get a bootloop.
Then run Revolutionary.

I downloaded the file and put it on the root sdcard... Bootloader seemed to just skip over the file though.
Do I need to change the text file in the zip to my CID or anything else? It doesn't like it
you need a goldcard, so it ignores the CID.. or actually.. what network are you on?
EDIT: Just noticed lol
Wait I'm downloading a Telstra RUU and I'll give you a new PB99IMG
try this. If not, then you can always use the RUU to do a full update, and then S-OFF and flash a custom ROM.

Okay, well I'm gonna get to sleep now but I'll give you some advice before you go.
If you can't update the bootloader with that, I'd suggest backing up your ROM (if you havent done so already), flashing the RUU to bring it up to the latest bootloader version, and then using revolutionary.
Once you've S-OFF'd with revo. Use android flasher to flash recovery (Note: your backup will not work if you do not flash the same version of recovery) and then do a full wipe and flash a ROM of your choice.
Would you happen to know where I can get the original Telstra RUU from? I think that might be my best bet.
Thanks for your help!

Hboot 1.xxxx is the stock hboot for gingerbread. So it offers you nothing. By flashing a hboot like cm7 (most roms fit in this hboot), you get much more space for installing apps, because its /data partition is much bigger.

Go to this link: http://www.mediafire.com/?qdzchln5vze836g and download the froyo RUU. It takes the phone back to stock, out-of-box, condition, as far as OS is concerned. You can then run the reflash package from unrevoked.com to achieve S-Off
Another user (soniclude) posted more in depth in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1488351 which is more specifically about fixing the "low on space" warning. However, I don't recommend applying that fix... It made my incredible freeze and randomly reboot all the time. So I ended up reflashing back to stock to eliminate the "fix"
