A2SDGUI doesn't work with Cool Sensation? - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone,
I've just flashed Cool Sensation v5. It's the first custom rom i've used with a2sd+ support. I have a question regarding A2SD+.
I believe A2SD+ is working, because for instance when I install a 20 meg app, it only takes up 2 megs or so of internal memory. So I downloaded A2SDGUI, but it doesn't seem to work... It says I'm either not rooted (which I obviously am), or my A2SD script doesn't work/I don't have an ext partition.
I have an ext4 partition (1GB, which is my second - and last - partition... my first partition is fat32), and right after I flashed the rom, i flashed the A2SD+ script (no errors there). I've also flashed the ext alignment script, before flashing the ROM (after a full wipe).
Does anyone have a clue why A2SDGUI isn't working?
Thanks a lot!

Because Cool Sensation uses a different A2SD script what A2SDGUI supports.

Thanks! Is there a comparable app on the market which does support my version of the A2SD script?

I don't know of any. Ask around in the thread. Maybe they can help you

Thank you for your help

App2SD+ not working in MIUI-XJ ROM

Finally downloaded and installed a2sd version of MIUI-XJ. Everything went smoothly. Loving the speed. Awesome MIUI implementation and thanks XJ for modifying it.
Now the problem started when I try to activate app2sd.
When I run the code to activate from terminal, It gives me error - "Problem detected: Darktremor Apps2SD may not have ran during boot. Cannot read a2sd.mountpoint."
I tried to rewipe everything and flashed still no luck. I have 512 MB ext 3 partition which I was succesfully using for Leedroid, Insertcoin and gingervillian (which use same darktremor code)
If I go in settings and SD card setting I can see A2SD+. Total space 457 MB and available as 453 MB.
So what option do I have now from below?
1. Downloading darktremor script and flashing it and try?
2. I dont know what is D2EXT and D2W so I never tried it. I have 512MB Ext 3 and remaining fat 32 (0 swap). can I try any of that version with that partition structure?
I really started liking this ROM. I hope something works because currently I am using it as it is and only 4-5 apps install bcoz soon it will go into low memory.
Thanks in advance.
You don't need to flash the DarkTremor script because MIUI-XJ has A2SD script built in and you use the terminal to activate it.
Download Terminal from market and open it
Write:
su
a2sd reilstall
After few seconds phone should reinstall a2sd and start to move apps to ext
It worked for me
Yes Meaple, But that script was giving error for some reason
Thanks Vanthor,
I tried that but same error was coming so finally I downloaded the script and reflash it and all is well now But looks like some problem with that update in that ROM.

[Q] MIUI 1.10.14 and A2SD+

Hi,
Having a lot of problems gettting A2SD+ to work on MIUI 1.10.14.
I have an 8gb SD card with a 1gb EXT4 partition.
When I install, apps don't seem to be going there, they go to the internal memory.
I looked through various forum postings and found a number of terminal commands to type in (e.g. check, reinstall, zipalign and cachesd) and have done all those.
Dalvik seems to have moved, internal memory went from 90mb post rom install, to about 134mb. However, next app I installed was a 20mb app and having installed it my internal memory has gone down by about 20mb.
is the problem the EXT4 partition? when it did the check it seemed to indicate ext4 support, but does it work?
What else can I try?
Had cyanogen 7 before this and the S2E system that uses worked exceptionally well, but I prefer MIUI as the rom.
Many thanks in advance
Matt.
hav u tried the command a2sd reinstall in terminal, that moves the apps to sd ext, also if u type à2sd help, it will tell you all the commands u can use with terminal.

Thanks for that.
Yes I had tried the a2sd commands recommended in a number of posts including the reinstall one.
However, doing an a2sd check and reviewing it carefully did make me see that the data was still in internal memory, and then an a2sd help revealed it was possible to move that too - so an a2sd datasd later and now i'm back to 143 out of 147 on the internal memory, and new app installs are NOT affecting internal memory usage.
Brilliant.
Cheers!
Matt.
Next time read MIUI Thread.

I guess you should create an ext3 partition and try. I have MIUI with A2SD+ working perfectly with a 512 MB Ext3 partition.

[Q] A2SDGUI not working on rooted Desire

I have installed the LeeDroid ROM v3.3.3 Port R5 on my Desire and I downloaded the A2SDGUI app from the market. But it gives an error saying phone is not rooted (which it obviously is) or A2SD scripts not found or ext partition not found. How do I make this app run on my phone? I have Superuser installed and A2SDGUI is given permission. Kindly help.
Thanks in advance!
Did you configure your SD Card with a FAT32 and an EXT partition?
Yes I did. I have followed all instructions given for LeeDroid's ROM properly. I used GParted Live CD to make the FAT32 partition and a 1gb ext3 partition on my SD card.
Followed guide on Leedroid thread to get A2SD working?
You know a2sdGUI only works with Dark Tremor a2sd scripts? I dont think leedroid uses Dark Tremor.
@Matdroid
Before installing LeeDroid I had created the ext3 partition. I presume A2SD is working because my apps are installed to the ext3 partition and not in the internal memory. Do I have to do anything else?
@rootsu
Then A2SDGUI wont work on my phone?

Not right now. Not without the Dark Tremor a2sd+ Solution in place.
If you followed leedroid guide for A2SD+, you don't need A2SDGUI.

The only reason I was looking for the A2SDGUI was to try to move the dalvik cache to ext partition. Or is it already in the ext partition in LeeDroid ROM? I dont know.
Also inspite of having a ext partition my internal memory is getting reduced bit by bit with every app that I install. I thought I had got rid of the 'lack of internal memory to install apps' problem by having an ext partition. What data is occupying the internal memory now?

Apps still take up the space on Internal memory. Thats the way it is.
You have to flash the dalvik cache script in the leedroid thread, post 1
Like Mat said, if you read the thread, you would know the answer.
I have downloaded the 'move dalvik to sd.zip' file from LeeDroid's thread. I read somewhere that A2SDGUI also does the job so I wanted to try it out. I guess I will just flash the zip now. Thanks for your replies.

As stated many times, A2SDGUI does the work... with DarkTremor's script, but Leedroid's ROM does not have it.
This place can be so much hard work sometimes

Appreciate all you guys taking the trouble of answering my questions. I really have very little knowledge of rooting and stuff. Just venturing in this field. So far I have managed to read the guides posted here and root and install a custom ROM. Now trying to understand dalvik cache and stuff.
Thanks once again.

Sandvold a2sd but 'low on space'

Just installed Sandvold's ICS ROM after months on CM7 and now I'm having a problem with the 'low on space' notification.
I used 4ext recovery to create a 1gb ext4 partition on my SD card (16gb) and flashed the ROM (after going through format, wipe cache etc etc). Upon installing Sandvold, I opted for the 2nd a2sd option (amarullz I believe - the one where dalvik cache remains on internal memory). Now I am reinstalling all of my apps and have been hit with the 'low on space' notification despite it stating 0.91gb free [see attachment #1 'App Manager'].
After checking the memory usage breakdown, the cause is probably down to the size of any of the following: /system, /cache or /sd-ext [see attachment #2 'Terminal'].
Any ideas what is my problem and how to fix it? I have a feeling it is something obvious!
Thanks.
It looks like your sd-ext partition is too small and nearly used up. You should really have around a 1gb partition. Take a backup of anything you need on your sd card and re-partition your card with a 1gb ext partition. You might need to reflash the rom again afterwards.

Hmm maybe, but I've just checked in 4ext recovery where my sd-ext partition is showing what I thought was the case: approx 1gb (see attached screenshot).
Any ideas?
Thanks
I had been using amarullz as my a2sd solution too. However something seems to have broken it in the last few releases of sandvold. I tried the new m2sd from aroma installer but that doesn't install right. So far the only combination I could get to work was flash int2ext or int2ext+ right after flashing sand old. I am happy with that atm.

Well 0.18.1 is the first version of Sandvold I've tried, so I have nothing to compare it against, but you're probably right. - looking at the ROM thread a few others are getting this problem.
I'll try int2ext+ if no one has another solution I guess!
Thanks.

A2SD script

Hi
What a2sd script can i use to move everything to the sd ext?? I'm using RSK Satelite ROM, and want an other A2sd script, so everything is moved to the ext. cach, davlik cach, lib,.... because i still have problems with the memory.
You on the cm7r2 hboot version of the Rom? That should give you more space.
I'm not sure exactly how the 'a2sdx' script works exactly, but most scripts of this type move apps and dalvik automatically. I'd be surprised if this one didn't do the same or similar because that's their main purpose
Try an app like diskusage, browse your partitions to check how they're being used, and understand why you're currently getting low memory in the first place.
Your partition should also be created with 4EXT recovery or gparted only
First of all, CHECK if the CM7r2 is compatible with your ROM.
Second, I suggest to also try Mounts2SD compatibility. Works like a charm on my CM7.2.0.1 rom. A2SD kinda let me down..
