no memory - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am having memory problems with my phone. I have moved every single possible app that i could to the sd card and used titanium backup to move even more on my rooted evo. My phone is running low on memory and the low memory logo is up. The only thing that I can find is that the data from my apps will free up memory. Why do apps that are on the sd card still save data to the phone? Please help.

I had this problem on a certain rom I ran. (Which will remain un-named), but a simple fresh install after wiping everything fixed it.

There is thread by Raper, how to partition SD card, you need to backup you rom to the PC partition the SD card, reload the rom, don't forget to wipe before reload rom.

So I moved my apps2SD. Then installed a ROM. How do I get it to "find" the SD apps?

I'm being told that my SD card is full. AND my internal memory is full. I have a feeling that the apps are installed in 2 different places. Is this the case? How can I tell?
I'm a mess, don't know where to start. Thanks for any help.
Later!
What method did you use to move them to your SD card?

This app called SDMove.
I've never used that before. I've always used Dark Tremor A2SD. Most of the roms support it. It requires partitioning your SD card. It will also move dalvik to SD which really frees up space. It's recommended using a class 4 card or faster.

I never partitioned my SD Card. I guess that might be a problem, and is probably why they never show up on the SD Card? I don't know.
Does partitioning the card require reformatting the SD Card?
If you installed a new rom without doing a full wipe, the rom should load all your apps if there are no conflicts. Thd SDMove app is just an easier way to move apps that can be moved to SD storage instead of going through HTC's app management in settings.
In regards to DarkTremor's A2SD, yes you would have to reformat your SD card to create an ext 2 or 3 partition. Most custom roms should state whether a2sd is available and then you just setup the partition in recovery. Make a complete backup of your SD card onto your comp that includes a nandroid backup and Titanium backup or MyBackup Pro app+data set.
In order to determine if you have multiple copies of your apk's , use a file manager and search your evo. I use "app 2 sd" on the evo using root explorer I found that apk's are kept in "mnt/asec" and "mnt/secure/asec" , which are folders on the sdcard. Since you used an application to move your apk's to the sdcard and not the OS apps2sd, you should find only one occurrence of each apk.

Apps to sd made my apps disappear

Hi. I am using cr mod rom. I downloaded apps to sd because the internal memory was getting low. I only had one partition at this time and when i pressed move to sd, all my apps started to disappear. They are gone from the sd card. When i try to install the app from market again, it asks me if i want to replace the application which suggests that the phone still detects the app is there. I have since wiped the sd card and created 3 partitions using the guide here. Another problem i have is that i cannot wipe sd-ext or mount it in clockmod recovery.

[Q] Why put apps on the SD card if I have to reinstall anyway?

Ok just go ahead and forgive me if this is a noob question or just so obvious that I've overlooked it... Like a lot of you, I like to flash (roms!)...a lot. And of course most of the time this involves a full wipe and reinstall of my apps. So since I have to reinstall everything anyway, what is the big deal about being able to put apps on the SD card? Is there some way they can be installed on the SD card without losing them during a rom change?
If you have a lot of apps, moving to sd will save space in the internal memory. Whenever you flash a new ROM, you will have to reinstall apps each time, no matter where they are stored. IMO, Titanium Backup does a great job restoring apps, and doesn't really take that long to do.
Thanks trickster...so you're referring to the internal memory vs internal storage correct? So the apps use the internal memory like the RAM on a PC but if they're on the SD card, they use the SD card space instead? Does this add a perfomance boost as well conceivably?
The apps use internal memory no matter where they are stored. It's the storage space that is saved internal vs SD card. Some apps, however, require that they are on internal storage to work more efficiently.

[Q] SD Card Apps

If I do a full wipe using ClockworkMod, are all the apps that I moved to my SD card also wiped?
Data wipe in clockwork wont wipe your SD card. I think you have to go into mounts and storage and specifically tell it.to wipe SD.

I don't necessarily want to wipe the whole SD card, just all the apps that I moved to my SD Card.
Not 100% sure on how to do that aside from manually uninstalling apps and deleting left over folders on your SD card. Might be some app that automates the process, I'm not really sure.

there is an app called "APP BACKUP AND RESTORE". Download this app on your old phone. Open the app and transfer all desired app onto your SD card. Next, install the same app on your new phone. there is and option to restore all apps from SD card to your new phone. I've done this and it took about 10-15 minutes (depending on how many apps you are trying to transfer). HOPE THIS HELPS

The newer Samsungs are different in how they handle the SD card. They have their 2 GB internal memory, and therefore see the 16 GB internal memory mistakenly as the "SD card". Your actual SD card is mounted as a different partition altogether.
Someone help me out with this, but I don't think the standard App2SD will work because of this design. Somewhere out there is a mod that allows you to fake swap your internal memory with your SD card, but I've never tried it. I don't run a lot of huge applications so I haven't run into the issue, just seen it around.
Hopefully some searching will help with what I mentioned above or someone else can chime in with more experience.
