Don't be a tool and download the OTA Update!
If you like HTC Sense, there is a Rooted Stock GB Rom in the Development Section.
If you want the OTA GB, I'll trade you my phone for yours AS IS. That way I can still do ROM's.

NEVER DOWNLOAD AN OTA! EVER! Not if u like root & running new roms & free tether that is....if not, go head, have a blast! lol But seriously, they usually have things in them that prevent & block root if u update. ALWAYS get roms & updates from the forums or other creditable forums/sources...

Or if you want 100% stock, just don't flash S-On zip file and you can take the OTA update and go back and forth if desired, just make sure it shows S-Off in bootloader and you're all good.

Picked up a g2 with android 2.3, unable to downgrade

This phone was not rooted, htc upgraded it to 2.3 and I'm getting errors downgrading, and ideas?

You need to provide more details...
1. By what means did you get it?
2. Did you root the phone?
3. Do you have a warranty?
4. What kind of error?
5. A screenshot perhaps?
Explain your problem more in detail, also I think this is the wrong section for that. check the general questions section.
cant downgrade 2.3, you are stuck on there till there is a new root for it sorry
You tried using a gold card to downgrade it?
When did T-Mobile send the upgrade
Also I think this is in the wrong section

Wrong section. You should either be posting in the QA section, or one of the root threads with the error you get.
When was gb released? My sister hasn't gotten it yet.

but is the OTA for gingerbread being pushed to those who arent rooted yet?
Got the phone on craigs list the previous owner sent it in for repair for hinge issue and got it back with 2.3. The phone isn't rooted. I like 2.3 but prefer my freedom. I'm at work and can't recall the error but I can push the files with adb but get the error when I run adb shell p.... I did the goldcard. I'm thinking I'm stuck, but ill give it another shot later

Meanwhile, those of us with root have had Gingerbread for a couple months now. If it's not available OTA, it's not officially available.

yup i have it too as well not a big deal, no its not OFFICIAILY OUT, but the Official stock rom is here to flash for those that want to try, this is the latest one and most likely gonna be pushed out.
as my sig shows i have one g2 rooted running cm7 and my other on stock gingerbread no root or s-off
as well this Leaked officail rom was able to fix those that had soft bricks and could not unbrick
and everyone knows to do that the roms have to be signed officialy by htc/tmobile

[Q] its been a while i have a Q

Currently on the cm7.0 with whatever kernal. i was wondering if updating to the new ota via manual upgrade, do i lose root s-off? if so what is the best and safest way to regain root nand unlock?
sorry its been a couple months since ive been able to get on here and what not. rom manager has been so helpful

Still kind of up in the air as to what's going on. It is locked, without a doubt. I personally believe they will push out an update or a way to unlock it. Like they said they would. I just think they already had it together before it got pushed out.

Swapping Evos

Ok I have a rooted EVO with the 2.10 hboot. I'm considering trading with my friend who has an EVO with the for now, unrootable 2.16 hboot.....If we were to swap phones, SD cards, numbers, the whole nine.... Would my phone lose root?? Thx in advance!
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk
since your swapping for the unrooted Evo with hboot 2.16, then yes....you will lose root. hboot 2.16 is still locked and there is no way to root it as of yet. be patient tho....there will be a rooting method out soon...you just have to give it time

No it won't unless you accept an ota etc or unroot it yourself.

correct...that will keep root...as long as your friend doesnt update with OTA
If youre on an AOSP ROM flash a Sense ROM to provision the phone (don't know about about all AOSP ROMs by Cyanogen wont let you put in ## codes or update profile to program), and flash back to whatever you want afterwards. Just don't accept the update.

Using ROM's

Hello everyone,
As you can see I am new to the site as well as rooting in general. This is my first HTC phone and it came stock with the gingerbread update. I've seen so many ROM's that I would love to use but can't since I'm not rooted. Is there any way to use them without a rooted phone.
P.s - I can't wait till I can root this phone to obtain free wi-fi tethering. I can't pay for that my bill is already $92 a month.

No. You need root to flash roms.
You have to be rooted in order to flash any roms my friend...
Nitpick: You need to be rooted to flash any custom ROM.
More nitpick: He needs root to flash a custom recovery/spl, but technically do not need root after that. But most ROM comes pre-rooted for a good reason.

[Q] OTA updates on rooted phone

Just a quick one.
There is an ota update available for my wifes Wildfire S which has been rooted. If I go ahead with the update will my root 'stick' or will I need to flash it again? Its running a stock rom and running 2.3.2, the update is 2.3.5.
Root will probably go......try using OTA root keeper...that might work
And i've got a quick one too
THERE IS A Q AND A SECTION HERE

Tried the ota update but all I got was a picture of an explanation mark and a green android. I'll just manually update the stock rom from a zip. I use Android revolution HD for my OneX, is something similar available for the wildfire S? I can see plenty of other roms on here but I want one that is based on the HTC stock rom like Android revolution is.
Quick one. You'll need stock recovery.

Do you mean I need to take cwm recovery off and replace it with stock? Can't I just flash a new stock rom (and maybe a new boot.img) on to it?
