Just a quick one.
There is an ota update available for my wifes Wildfire S which has been rooted. If I go ahead with the update will my root 'stick' or will I need to flash it again? Its running a stock rom and running 2.3.2, the update is 2.3.5.
Root will probably go......try using OTA root keeper...that might work
And i've got a quick one too

Tried the ota update but all I got was a picture of an explanation mark and a green android. I'll just manually update the stock rom from a zip. I use Android revolution HD for my OneX, is something similar available for the wildfire S? I can see plenty of other roms on here but I want one that is based on the HTC stock rom like Android revolution is.
Quick one. You'll need stock recovery.

Do you mean I need to take cwm recovery off and replace it with stock? Can't I just flash a new stock rom (and maybe a new boot.img) on to it?

Hi everyone, can any one answer my question ...!
Which ROM it have an option to HTC update..?
and
what I will get & what I will loose after update ..?
Thanks..
Question 1: the only Rom I can think of is the stock Rom.
Question 2: well you loose root and the ability to root until a new exploit is found. But I think you can still root if you are S-OFF.

I would suggest not to go for those ROMs
Hi,
I don't know where there are any ROMs that let you do that. I would advise that even if you get such a ROM, not to go for the OTA updates, as there are a lot of problems associated with it, including losing root on your device.
No custom rom will be able to update from HTC. While it will check and attempt to download and install it ends up soft bricking your device. If you want HTC updates then stay stock.
Hi everyone,
I have got a rooted HOX, and I flashed what I think is a custom rom. I did this beacuse I am getting prepared for an ota update and my bigger question is if with this rom I will be able yo receive the official update.
Here are the details of the rom.
Thx.

As long as you have a stock recovery you should get the updates. It looks like you are on the 1.29.401.11 rom so you should. But you will lose root after you get another update.
As i see this is stock rom and you will have ota update.

Htc One X Venom ViperX Rom & faux123 b004b7 Kernel
Why root if you want to wait for OTA updates?
Because when I bought it it was already rooted...
In fact I dont know what to do... Stay rooted, or unroot it and receive OTA updates.

You certainly will.
As far as you come back to your stock rom, you will get your OTA. you need to download keeproot app from google play to stay rooted though.
Hi guys i'm waiting for the official jb update from htc but something cross my mind. I have an unlocked rooted stock rom. Updating from 4.0.3 to 4.0.4 isn't a problem at all because i still have all the bloat application intact and recover root using rootkeeper. However how about updating from ics to jb? Do i need to relock my bootloader? Any answer will be appreciated

If you have the stock recovery installed you do not need to relock
If flashing an ota update you only need to have stock recovery installed

RElock the flash firmware then unlock the install the rom
Nah i'm not gonna install custom jb rom so i think i don't have to install firmware. Official ota will also include the firmware right? I'm just concerned that unlock bootloader will mess up the ota update to jellybean because of the firmware inside the ota

Just run a non rooted stock rom backup.flash custom recovery and your good to go to flash the official JB update when it comes out. No need to lock the bootloader. It just updates the hboot and prob radio version. After that you can flash back custom recovery and also run a older ics rom ( nandroid )
Correct me if i'm wrong, here to read & learn

I received a 1.25 mb ota update but I am rooted can I install this safely without messing up my htc one x it is unbranded
I think it's a OTA for preparing your phone to get the JB upgrade, I downloaded the same update, but for forcing JB update, only to see what's inside and it had 1.25 mb.

flash stock recovery.
And use a search button.....and post in the right part of the forum ! This is the general, you belong in the Q&A part with these things. And yes there are numerous posts like this with the exact same question ..... we keep on repeating ourselves for ages in here ..... and so it is !
No problem make the update
I think I heard somewhere that if you are rooted and you do get an OTA and install it then the update will re-lock your HOX and you'll need to root again...
I could be wrong
It doesn't relock the device, it just removes the root, you can apply the root easily after the update !

Yes removes the root is what I meant >.<
Hello first post here and i'm still a bit of an Android noob so here is a dumb question, I have just rooted my HTC One M8 using TheUnlockr All in One Kit method and my question is what ROM am I running? (I would link but new here) When you Root a phone does there have to be a custom ROM installed to have SuperSu on the phone, or is that all rooting is, just installing a custom recovery and installing SuperSu. For me the phone seems like it is just running the stock Sense ROM but I have been looking into flashing Cyanogen mod, and I want to know what I am currently using in case I want to get rid of Cyanogen. Sorry if this is confusing and stupid but yea. Thanks!
You should still be running stock ROM

Oh okay, so if this is the case shouldn't I be able to unroot, install the OTA update and then reroot or is this a no no?
Sent from my HTC One_M8 using Tapatalk
You would probably have to relock your bootloader to update. Just wait for fenny to update his Stock+ rom in the development section. It'll have the OTA update baked in. Then you don't have to worry about unrooting and re-rooting.
