I think I damage my modem. - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

When I update with odin my phone screen turns pink, blue or some other color and then I have to reodin it again and again and again until it works. Also my modem does not update from EF02 to EF10. I believe I broke my modem by trying to update my profile.

The changing colors and getting further each time is a sign of a weak cable. Get a heavy duty blackberry or Palm Pre cable.

That makes sense my cord is bent. So I will replace the cord when I get the chance.

what usb data cable are you using? not the one it came with right? did you pull the battery out and leave it off for a few minutes? taking the battery off sometimes helps. completely clears everything.
Color implies disconnection from process. If you are using the stock cable I would get a new one...many have issues with it

Actual phone. Saw green the other day. The link I gave says it can be any color. In my case odin did not flinch and hung at my usual spot.

A different one the the one you have been using to start with. I have personally had no issues in the short time prior to losing mine but there are enough posts on here to show that those cables have been a source of many flashers whoas.
Plus it has to be the thinest damn usb cable I have ever touched.

+1 seems like their cables are the only good thing they have now. I had someone root my phone and he had the same issue with different color screens took him three days to finally get it thru. Took me 3 minutes to return to stock and reroot

Anyway to convert mtd to bml without odin

Trying to get back to stock before taking my epic in to sprint. Here's what's up.
I got a refurbished epic 4g when my screen cracked. It worked well at first flashed over to cm9 and atarashi kernel. Since then my usb port started acting up sometimes it thinks its charging constantly other times never says it charging. Booting into download mode and plugging in to the computer it doesn't connect. And yes I am using a non stock cable (blackberry cable).
I've also tried to restore to a backup in case it was the new kernel version still doesn't work.

Try reinstalling your drivers, use different ports, and different cables. I had to do the same thing yesterday when my screen had water damage. They probably wont notice if you take it in and i think they wipe anyway, but keep trying to odin just in case. Maybe try heimdall too.

Flash the eco5 rerfs rom and it will make you semi-soft bricked and then they won't be able to get to recovery or anything and they will end up fixing the usb and reflashing stock and when they ask you stuff just play dumb

If you can't get it working flash the FC09 stock deodexed MTD ROM here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1580931
There are instructions at the bottom of the OP to make it look stock enough to fool most Sprint techs. Marcusant has a kernel for it that has the stock numbers in the version that shows up on settings. PM him or me if you need that.
Alright I'll try that hopefully they don't notice. If they do well hopefully they don't say anything cause its a hardware issue obviously. Just a poorly refurbished phone.

Unfortunately bml is not open source, which makes a cwm conversion back to it impossible or hard enough that its not in the best interest of our developers to do.

kris, most likely you have a dirty usb port, take a qtip, dip it into alcohol and gently clean the port and then use a hair dryer for a few secs and then give it a try.
Let me know if you fool the sprint employee.
I am in the exact same boat right now.

I don't think they'd notice. They either don't know or don't care and if the service center is in the back, they probably won't even look at it before they reset.

Problem with phone charging.

My phone has been continuing to say that its charging after I unplug it. I've tried a new battery a new charger and wiping my battery stats. Has anyone else encountered this or know a fix?

If it were me, I'd Odin one click back to el29 stock rooted and see if it still happens.
Before doing anything, did you try to 'fix the permission' from the recovery and see it's still showing charging?
I don't think my computer or the phone recognizes the connection between the two for me to odin . Ill try fixing the permissions now and let you know if that works.

mobile odin is your friend whenever the computer refuses to acknowledge your phone's presence.
OK fixing permissions didn't fix it so I guess the next step is to Odin a stock rom. Can I use mobile Odin to flash a full stock unrooted rom?

I had this exact problem last week. Just one day it continued to tell me that it was still charging even though it was unplugged. Also, it would randomly say "USB Connected" throughout the day. I think it may have been caused by the fact that I started using the Kindle Fire charger to charge it (it just happened to be conveniently by my bed). The Fire charger is much larger and I'm guessing higher voltage.
But I tried restoring to stock, jiggling/cleaning the usb port, and every other thing I could find on the internet, but none of that worked. I just took it in to Sprint, a technician confirmed the problem, and ordered me a new phone. Painless.
But I do have TEP... If you don't, I heard that instead of just swapping out your phone, they'll order another USB port and just swap that out instead.
Why don't you just mobile odin EL29 stock rooted? If your phone won't charge, you could get an external charger and charge batteries outside the phone. You could just rotate the batteries and always have a backup. There should be a link to the unrooted tar for EL29 in the one click odin EL29 post. Just follow the directions. No need to hold your hand, it will work, just read first then follow the directions.

You have corrosion in your charging port. Take your battery out, get a nice stiff-bristle paintbrush or a tooth brush, scrub your port out really well with alcohol. Make sure you dry it thoroughly before powering back up.

[Q] Help? I Think I Just Bricked My Phone

I was in odin attempting to go back to stock and my screen went completely green during the process, left it plugged in hoping it would just keep working, but odin stopped. I am pretty sure my battery died during the process (very dumb of my but I was paying little attention to battery beforehand). I eventually pulled the battery, and now I cannot get any response from my phone at all. Won't charge, won't go back to odin. Any suggestions?
Battery CPR. Pop it in and out and try to get back into download mode. The colored screen is a sign of a bad cable. Get a heavy duty blackberry cable. You can also try with no battery and the usb cable in the computer to get into download mode. It will go in eventually.

Interestingly enough, it seems to be a combination of cheap cables vs. usb ports. My laptop can Odin first time, every time with the stock Samsung cable. However, my work computer fails 19/20 times unless I use the smaller stockier Blackberry cable I have.
Is your work computer a desktop? And if so are you using the USB ports in the rear directly on the motherboard?

It's a desktop, and I've tried all 6 ports, 4 in the back, 2 in the front. Same results all around. Of course, this computer is a relative beast, but it seems to have usb issues regardless.
On the other hand, my home desktop has no issues as well, I just don't use it as much as my laptop. Develop alone in a dark room? Nah! I develop on the couch watching Big Bang Theory with my wife and son.

[Q] [HELP!]

Hello! My (Sprint, Galaxy s 2, Model:SPH-D710) is having a screen problem. (How it happened) I was on an app called vine when my phone froze. (How i tried to fix it) So i took out and put back in my battery hoping it would fix the issue (it didn't). When i restarted my phone it would just stay on the Samsung logo. Thinking my phone was broken i decided to Hard reset my phone. With looked like it was working. Until it stop'ed half way and froze. So i took out the battery again (knowing it was a bad idea). Now when I try to turn on my phone only my blue notification light comes on. Please tell me if there is anything i can do to fix this.
Is it a solid blue or flashing

This is exactly right. Solid blue LED is a hard brick. Your best options now are to either J-tag it or sell it for parts. Sorry to hear you've lost your device

Solid blue is a full on hard brick, no choice but j-tag. Flashing blue isn't quite as bad, usually an Odin flash will fix it. Flashing could also be a voltage problem or a few other things.

Flashing blue normally means that the battery is faulty. Since you have solid, I am positive that you have suffered and EMMC failure and I am not sure that J-Tag can fix that... It could be worth a shot, but I doubt it will be able to be recovered.

I was under the impression that's what j-tag was for
I've never needed it so I've never really done much digging, but if I'm wrong in my thought thanks for correcting me:beer:

Well stryke. Sometimes jtag can bring it back. Other times even jtag cannot bring it back. It is a superbrick at that point and nothing will bring that chip back to life. You wont really know if its just hard bricked or super bricked until you try to jtag it. If there is a way to tell I have not seen nor heard about it yet.
sent from my Provari with a mini rda!
From what I have seen, J-Tag has no issues on a phone that was bricked due to user error. This is a full blown out of the blue EMMC failure. I am about 80% sure that the chip is toast. I have had it happen on a Captivate. Sent it out for J-Tag, came back fixed, 5 minutes later it froze up. Pulled the battery and tried to reboot... Nothing. It was the exact same thing that happened to the guy I bought it from. He was on Facebook and it froze. Same issue.
The J-Tag might bring OPs phone back, but it is unlikely that it will last for even a day.

Depends on what is causing the solid blue. Solid blue just means it didn't finish POST correctly.
Anyhow, Josh (mobiletechvideos) will not charge if he can't fix it via JTAG - and I mention him as he is one of the premier solutions.
