Hi,
I had made a Titanium Backup of my apps only to find after I had flashed a new ROM /Wiped Data that all the backups are '0 kb' therefore nothing bloody backed up including app data, now I'm screwed, but I had a nandroid backup but was wondering If I was to be able to restore only 'Apps+Data' from the backup as in extract it individually.
EDIT: Can I restore apps from .androidsecure folder? I have a backup of 'ext' and extracted it but get error when doing so...
ROM INFO:___________________________
Previous (NAND) ROM: RCMix S v2.0.1
New ROM: Sensation v5

Please let me know asap, Many Thanks!
if you go over to the all things root section on androidforums, look for my thread about getting data back from a nandroid. it works
It might be a long-winded solution but can you not restore the nandroid and do the titanium backup again, then flash your new ROM?

Simple answer is NO.
The nandroid backup can only be done after you have rooted. So if you are not yet rooted you can't use it. Also, nandroid is not an app backup system. It will restore your phone to the state it was in directly before you did the backup. This means it will replace your rom, aswell as all other settings.
The only time to use nandroid is before flashing a new rom as a safeguard against the new rom not working or you not liking it.
If you want to backup your games and apps. I'd use titanium backup (requires root) or my backup pro.
what about clockswork backup one? does it backup the applications? and yeah its rooted
Nandroid is nandroid. It will do a complete backup- rom, apps, settings etc. If you use it, it will restore your phone to the old rom.
Think of it as windows system restore. It restores the phone to the state it was in directly before you did the backup. So everything you did after the backup will be undone.
clockswork=nandroid?
Clockworkmod recovery or any other custom recovery you choose has nandroid and it is all the same.
Maybe 3rd time lucky here...... Nandroid in whatever form is not an app. backup system. It is a total phone backup.
ok got it... lock the thread i am done
What does clockwork do exactly when it comes to backing up your data? Does it just do the important files or the entire phone?
REAL QUESTION:
I have viper rom installed. When the real froyo gets released or an updated Viper rom is release, what do I do?
1. Do I use clockwork to do ALL my backup and restoring? If not, what programs do I use?
2. I have some apps installed on the microsd card too, what app will restore those files once I flash my phone with a new rom?
3. everytime I do a backup with clockwork, do the older backups get erased?
4. What are your suggestions on how I should do my backup?

CWM (Clockwork Mod) performs a full backup of all system data, which includes the ROM and Kernel, any theme you have installed, all apps and their respective data, as well as any other settings. I would not suggest using only clockwork for your backups, a program such as Titanium Backup would be a better bet in case your NAND gets corrupted, which would disable your ability to restore from backup. Clockworkmod and Titanium Backup can both backup and restore apps on the sdcard, so I wouldn't worry about that. The backups in clockwork are concurrent, meaning that each time you do a new one it saves it as a completely separate backup containing only the files that you backed up on that occasion. I personally use clockwork for large backups such as individual ROMs, and then titanium for my apps and data. I hope this helps, feel free to pm me if you have any more questions/need more explanations!
So I am rooted and flashed Myn's RLS#4. No problems
Now I am adding a few new items but am confused with a few things.
Titanium Backup
ROM Manager
Nandroid backup
Most of what I read says to do a Nandroid backup. I know how to, but where does Titanium Backup and ROM Manager come into play. Do I need to do all?

Titanium Backup - saves your applications on SD card so that it may save and re-use on a new ROM
ROM Manager - Download new ROMs onto your sd card to flash
Nandroid backup - Only takes a backup of your whole actual phone so that you can go back and start over from the first backup in case a problem or bug or accident in the system occurs.
Only Amon_Ra's recovery makes nandroids which back up your 4G radio parameters. You might try searching, use google instead of the xda forum tools, just include"xda evo" in the search line.
Hi folks... I'm fairly new to flashing ROM's (i know how to flash them and such) but I have a question about backups and restores of roms....I have searched and just dont see the exact wording im looking for.
Ok, So, I have clockwork, and rom manager and have done a backup of my rom.
Here is my question that isnt quite so clear to me.
When I flash a new rom, or say update one that I have where you have to wipe everything.... are these backups here to restore all of your programs and such to where you dont have to go back in and re-download everything when you have a new fresh rom installed.
Id love to try out a bunch of roms.. but I just hate having to go and re-download all of my programs each time I put a new one on... if that is how it has to be then so be it...
I just dont really know exactly what the backups im doing are for, or what they do.
Thanks for your help.

Somewhat. A nandroid backup is a COMPLETE backup of your entire phone at the point you make the backup. All your apps, calls, texts, etc will be exactly like you made the backup. That's the beauty of nandroid backups, you can make one, try a new rom, and if you dont like it, restore your backup and there is no hassle re-installing apps and changing settings.
However, when you install a new rom, you have to wipe everything. So when flashing a new rom, you will not have anything, you will have to re-install your programs.
There are backup programs that will allow you to backup before a wipe and flash when installing a new ROM. You can then restore the user apps and data. You can also restore SOME system data but you have to be careful and it may be a trial and error process when restoring.
I use Titanium Backup. Some people also use MyBackup Root. I found that when I restored some of my apps with MyBackup they would Force Close when I tried to run them after a restore. That has not been the case with Titanium.
I have Titanium set to restore the apps to the original location. That way my apps restore to internal (DATA) or the the SD Card depending on where they were originally installed.
My process when I flash a new ROM:
- Backup all user apps + Data and System Data with Titanium.
- Nandroid Backup using Amon_RA
- Wipe System, Data, Dalvik and Cache
- Flash the ROM
- Reboot
- Create google account, etc.
- Install Titanium from the market.
- Restore user apps + data using titanium
You can also restore some system data. Depending on the ROM (and how different it was from the original) that can cause problems. If that happens go back to wipe and reflash the ROM again without restoring the system data.
I have had no problems restoring things like my SMS Messages and Call Logs. You can get into problems when you start restoring things like system settings or HTC Sense settings, etc.
Thank you both for the replies. This is exactly what i needed to know. I hope this thread helps others with similar questions.
There is one thing. CWM and ROM Manager have a history of not being reliable with backups.
Your best bet is to get Amon Ra and use that to make Nandroids.
4 I always have on my phone are my Stock/Rooted, my last ROM I was on, fully setup, my Current ROM, basic, before I restore and programs or apps/data, and my current ROM all setup.
If I flash a new ROM, I can just delete my older complete setup.
Hi,
I was on Pureness 14 with all patches and SP's installed with Trinity kernel. I tried taking backup of ROM via CWM but there was an error on sd-ext backup so I installed VANIR's kernel to take a backup of the ROM. But now am unable to get a clean restore from both Trinity and Vanir Rom's kernel.
I need to extract sms FROM THE PREVIOUS BACKUP. hAVE GONE THROUGH SOME JOURNALS AND WAS ABLE TO GET THE DATABASE FROM THE BACKUP BUT IT IS NOT RESTORING THE SMSes even with right permissions. Help needed badly. Need the contact detail sent via sms for a very urgent work.
How to i do the right thing?
I believe paid version of Titanium Backup can look around within the CWM backups and restore stuff from there.
