[Q] Looking for couple Widgets - Xperia Arc Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm looking for couple Widgets for my new Arc.
1) I like to be able to restart the phone with out pressing the power button. My fingers are kind of fat and with having case it's hard to press the button, almost need to use pen or something.
2) Need to be able to blank the screen. Same as above, fingers too fat and sometimes need to blank the screen right away.
Thanks for any pointers.
P.S. I don't want to get nothing that does some extra stuff, just those 2 things (2 separate widgets are good enough...2 separate programs are good as well).

For rebooting via widget, widgetsoid allows you to do that. But you need root to allow that command.

for reboot you can use Xperia Reboot Options widget from DooMLoRD
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1123576 (root needed)

Widgetsoid also has the option to turn off the screen (root needed).

Darn, all of them need root....new to Android and only have the device for a week and don't want to turn this in to brick.
Now the question, is any one on Rogers rooted with 2.3.3 (just took update couple of days ago). Current build number is 3.0.1.A.0.145.

So I guess the only way to root the device right now is to downgrade?
If so, any one on Rogers done that yet?

[Q] sony noob. feel stupid...

ok guys i just picked up a play for att. sucks cause i have tmobile and wont get the 3/4g data. im almost always in wifi spots anyway so no big deal.
anyway i have already called att and got the phone sim unlocked. now if i think i understand this correctly this should be the order to follow. if you guys can confirm and provide latest links i would appreciate greatly.
1. sim unlock (done)
2. unlock bootloader (not yet)
3. root (not yet)
4. load rom (not yet)
correct??? did i miss anything? any preferred method on any of these? please advise.
thanks!!!
First of all, if you bought a xperia PLAY, you should probably post in the xperia PLAY forums.
Second of all, questions go in the Q & A forum.
To answer your question, that's pretty much the right order.

Have you tried to use SE PC companion to restore phone to factory state?
From support start update and click repair phone.

For img flash you can use flashtool.
You don't need root or anything to use flashtool on your phone.
Just pick correct .ftf for your phone and flash it to the phone.

If you were rooted before you don't need to re-root unless you purposely unrooted it. IF you aren't rooted anymore superoneclick or the zergrush(however it's spelled) is the easiest. I'm 99% sure you don't have an unlocked bootloader though, so you have very few options. I'd say re-root if you need to and unlock your bootloader so you can flash flash and flash custom roms like crazy

You need to pay Setool credits in order to unlock the bootloader. Unlocking the bootloader allows you to lose the sin lock as well, so you could have killed two birds with the same stone.

ya i just found the website. seems like thats the one everyone is sent to on this site.
im wondering now that im rooted if i can clean this stock rom up enough to use on a daily basis. i mean im using tmobile on the device so sharing internet would only be edge lol. i guess the only thing i really want ics for is that fact that its ics.
open the dial pad and use this code*#*#7378423#*#* . Then go to -> "Service Info" -> "Configuration".
If it says unlock bootloader = no, then you have to use the paid service, if yes, then you can do it for free yourself.

why is rooting so hard

i've given up can't do this rooting thing.is there any reason why you can't just download a app to do the root

You'd need an exploit in ICS 4.0.3 itself to do that and we don't currently have one.

you cant do root here easy way because HTC doesnt wont us to do so. ... thats all and simple as that. with another brands like samsung is the process short and easy. blaim HTC ...
android is open source... ICS 4.0.3 its not the problem at all!
If you really want root follow the tutorial at htcdev.com to unlock your bootloader and then follow one of the tutorials on how to install a custom rom (those are basically always rooted)... I'd wait for an S-OFF though.
Some pretty useful guides in Development section...
I found them fairly straight forward with no hi-cups along the way.

Not sure what you're on but you can't root a Samsung phone from inside Android without using an exploit which is exactly the same as HTC and what the OP was asking for. You need to restart the Samsung and put it into the bootloader same as on a HTC.

Not if you use HTCdev to unlock your bootloader, they keep a log of your device, regardless if you re-lock it.
They'll still replace your device if it's a hardware problem though.

As long as you revert back to stock rom and flash stock recovery you should be fine. Don't see the need to relock as it'll just show unlocked what signs will we have that we've flashed a custom firmware? On SGS devices we had a count number but using a jig we could wipe this back to zero and return to complete stock.

[Q] Deleting "Stock Apps" HTC One X

Hello everyone!
I'm new here as you can see it's my first post.
I have just rooted my HTC One X today and I would like to know what the easiest way to delete the stock apps from the phone is such as the Amazon app. Since i'm new I am very unsure how to do this and yes I did search on how to do it and found a solution by using a android terminal application but I am unsure if it either works for HTC One X or if there is a easier solution to do this.
(Unrelated to the topic)
I also wonder how you guys updated your HTC One X because I haven't recieved a OTA Update? (I suppose that's what they call it) for my phone and I am still on 1.26 and my carries is "Three".
Thanks and hopefully ya'll can give me some advice since I am a big newby ^^
Only way to fully remove stock apps is to unlock the phones bootloader via HTC website (voids part of warranty) and the either install custom rom or root the stock one.
only thing you can do with standard phone is disable the apps you dont want. think this just stops it from showing in your app drawer and menus etc but its not removed.
For the update there are some threads in the one x section about each ota updates, im sure i read in one of them three are yet to release theirs.
I'm on three and had mine but I have a sim free phone.
This thread is your starting point if you want to go down the unlocking/custom rom route.

Thanks very helpful reply!
If I unlock my phone at Three as in sim card unlock to use any carrier does this mean I will get the OTA update?
Thanks i'll check out the feature of hiding the stock apps.

Not sure how it works to be honest, I'm a nooby myself.
If you unlock your bootloader you can download the ota updates from people on xda and flash them to your phone but that will require you to do a bit of reading if you never done it before.

No,
SIM Lock and the BOOTLOADER Lock are different, Three will just unlock your sim to use on other networks, HTCDev will unlock your bootloader to flash custom ROM's but VOIDS WARRANTY

Yeah I understand that, my phone is unlocked (the bootloader) and is rooted aswell. We're now talking about the OTA Update in order to get it quickly does my phone have to be unlocked as in simcard unlocked? because I heard carriers bring out these OTA updates and Three didn't release it at all.
If your phone is rooted and unlocked you can flash the ota update you want manually.
Find them in this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1606676
I believe the one most have and the one most current roms are using is 1.28.401.9
you will need CMW recovery to do it if you dont already have it.
I don't think unlocking the sim lock will get the the update over the air, it will still be a three branded phone.
EDIT
actually, reading a few of the posts it that thread it seems unclear if it works, id read the whole thread before attempting it.

Apologies for bumping this thread, I came across this thread through google. I ordered an HTC One X from At&T. I usually remove stock apps completely from my android phones through the superuser command line technique. Would I be able to do this with the HTC One X as well? You seem very knowledgeable. Thanks.

[Q] Help with rooting (long rant)

Hello people
I'm a user of the Arc s and who has spent over 5 hrs trying to root my phone but with no luck,
I've tried every way of rooting I could find but they ether don't work or I couldn't download the required files.
Meaning when I try and download the flashtools, A i don't know which one if the correct link because theres like 600 links or something and, B the person who uploaded the files had to use a server with a 1 download a hr limet and I'm NOT paying anything or signing up to the hosting place.
When I try one of the easy ways, like the one click app way they don't do anything, like i get cmd popping up for like 2 seconds then closing but nothing happens.
Just so you guys know, I'm not a noob. I have done these things before on different phones, but A it's been a long time scenes I've rooted anything before and B my Arc needs to be rooted in a very strange way which I've never seen before.
So the bottom line is i need help, can anyone help? anything would be useful.
Flashtool has 3 links on the main page ...
http://androxyde.github.com/
All 3 worked fine for me. Let's start there
What build are you on? If it is .62/69 then the one click method its never going to work.
If on .42 then the one click will work
if on ics the easy rooting will work add I have used them both.
Flashtools look for version .7.0.1
When using three one click rooting phone needs to be powered on. Connect via usb run file via PC then follow the promts on screen.
I an not in front of PC so cant post links.

Ok i will do that later. one thing I would like to add is that in all the time I've been using android, I've never had to do anything with unlocking bootloaders.
but I'll come to that after I'm rooted.
Ok well I'm just having bad day,
I've tryed this one. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1601038
and It doesn't work, I just get waiting for device and nothing happens. I've waited like 30min with nothing. and yes I have got usb debugging on and unknown sources on aswell.
Any ideas on what can be wrong?
ok I've had a bit more luck, I've found the newer version of the program and now it runs through the process but it just fails, I don't get root when the program sas it's fished :S.
now whats going wrong?

Please help!!!
You should be able to log into your phone by pressing settings on your SystemUI assuming you have no security option set. Try that and see if you can navigate to ROM toolbox to change the LCD density.
The best remedy is to flash a build.prop to fix the LCD density back to 240.
EDIT: Just noticed you cant pull down the notification bar. Flashing a build.prop is the way to go then.

First of all doesnt Sony have software for Mac called bridge or something like that?
Before you read anything below try this to unlock your phone; have someone call you and while the phone is ringing press the home button. Maybe you can then navigate to settings to temporarily disable security and to ROM toolbox to fix your LCD density.
Anyway regardless to get a build.prop you're gonna need to ask someone to extract their build.prop, put it in a flashable zip and send you a link to download so you can flash it via CWM. I'm currently not at a computer and I have an LT15a so idk if you'd like your phone to be recognized as a north American phone. What region are you from btw?
