Flashed InsertCoin_Vision Sense2.1 + 3.0 (v1.5), was trying to use market but the phone froze. I took the battery out, put it back in and now the phone won't boot at all. Holding down volume up or down when pressing the power button does nothing either.

do you have juice in your battery ?
Yea, it was around 90% at the time it froze and plugging in the phone to charge is not working either, the orange light won't turn.
Don't use Vol Up+Power, that goes to a Qualcomm diagnostic mode or something.
Try reboot it into recovery, and see if there's any error messages there.

It won't boot at all so I can't access recovery. I am thinking either the battery somehow died or it's bricked. I don't know if I should return it for a replacement or try out a new battery, I don't want to get a replacement fee if they discover that I rooted and flashed a custom rom on it.

since you pressed vol-up + power, have you done a battery pull? any leds flashing at all when you try to turn it on?
pressing vol-up + power (iirc, it's been a while since I did it on accident) will make the phone unresponsive to any power-on signals until you do a battery pull.
Sounds like one of those cases were the mmc chip died. And if thats the case there is nothing you can do Sorry buddy * Been happening ALOT lately for some reason.
On another note, if you can't even get it to turn on , i doubt they will be able to find out. Most people who have sent one in with the busted emmc chip have gotten replacements no problems. Here is hoping!

Well I tried pressing vol-up+ power after it won't turn on. I have tried countless number of battery pulls and the leds are not flashing at all, even when plugged in. Battery pull was the reason why this happened anyway, should have waited for the rom to become responsive instead of becoming impatient and pulling the battery.

haha yea I am really hoping that's the case.

Hey guys,
So I've got an S3 running AOKP at the moment and I was wondering if there was any way to disable the power button. It's been malfunctioning, and causing my phone to reboot constantly. Sometimes even when off it continues to think I'm holding down the power button and cancels the boot process...
Any ideas of a workaround? I'm out of warranty and can't want to pay for repairs at the moment.

Hi,
I am having the exact same issue. Very strange as it decided to do this while checking my email (finger no where near the power button) and I have never had any issues prior to this.
I'm running CWM, CM10.2 and I CANNOT BOOT into recovery (CWM) or ODIN, best I got was the CM loader screen then it reboots.
Even if I disconnect the battery, wait 30 minutes (fully charged) and replace the battery, it attempts to boot itself again. and again and again...
The best videos I've seen involve smacking the phone on the power button side (not going to do that, at least hard) I think it may be a random power button failure. I will be disassembling the phone tonight and trying to open or close the power button contacts and wipe my phone before it goes back....

It's very random for me too. Sometimes it'll work all day then it'll take like an hour and a half to turn back on.
Quick question, as I've heard this from a couple people. Do you use an otter box?
Regardless I'm 90% sure this is hardware related and has nothign to do with software, because all the cases I've heard of this have had different roms, one of which was stock unrooted.
Pretty frustrating. Not sure I'll buy a Samsung again to be honest.

This started gradually happening to me too and I bought both my phone and Otterbox in July 2012 when it came out. I noticed with my family members' S3's that their Otterboxes were different in regards to the power button (it stuck out more) whereas mine hardly stuck out at all. I got a warranty replacement this past July (2013) and the exact issues you described began happening. It started out as random reboots and as of yesterday, I can't get my phone to boot because it thinks I'm holding the power button down (therefore not letting the boot process finish). I took my phone apart, expecting the power button to be an easy swap like it was in the GS2, but no, it's a part of the friggin motherboard. I also am looking for a way to disable the power button. I'd recommend that if you are able to get it to boot even once, that you make sure to backup all your stuff. Fortunately all my pics are backed up since I can't boot my phone anymore, but other files are currently inaccessible. I wonder if anyone knows if some sort of electrical tape or something could prevent the power button signal from transferring so that we would be able to boot our phones?
I had the same power button issue with my Captivate as well... and thought that issue had been looked into. After 14 months of use on my S3, I noticed this issue appeared.
Solution (well not quite): change key layout to disable power button. Re-map volume down as "power, wake". Yes, by doing this, I am losing volume down button. Also, when the phone is off, I still need to press the power button to power it up. My fix of changing the key layout file won't take charge until after the phone boots up.
[Q] Please help! Stuck in Bootloop, power button "stuck", no download mode!!
I believe this has to do with the phone thinking the power button is constantly being pressed...
I'm looking for any advice. My s3 suddenly went into a boot loop this morning. It powers on for a few seconds and turns itself back off. I took my case off and noticed the power button is loose. Doing a little research, came across similar issues online caused by the main board going faulty and the phone thinking the power button is constantly being held down.
I know this because I can remove my battery, put it back in, and without even touching any buttons, the phone will attempt to power up.
I'm currently rooted and can't get into download mode for more than 3-5 seconds before it turns itself off. I was only once able to apply the perfect pressure by squeezing the side of the phone which allowed it to boot normally, but about 30 seconds later, the power menu appeared by itself and it turned off a few seconds later.
Has this happened to anyone else?? Anybody know how to go about fixing it??
My phone is still under warranty, but I can't flash back to stock.
Things I've tried:
Download mode
Recovery mode
Different battery
I haven't tried taking the phone apart yet. I want to get a replacement if possible. But just in case, has anybody repaired this themselves??
I'm really at a loss here. Any help is much appreciated!

Wow, crazy. I'm experiencing the same issue starting yesterday! I haven't tried swapping my battery yet, but the stuck power button makes so much more sense. I'm having all the same issues with not being able to stay in recovery mode or download mode for very long.
[EDIT]
My phone also seems to be reacting to static electricity. Say I let sit on my desk... It does nothing (not cycling reboots), if I pick it up it'll just start rebooting again. This leads me to believe that maybe it's not my power button but a battery or internal component issue.

Weird. I haven't noticed mine reacting to touch, but I did watch it try to start itself multiple times while sitting all by itself on my desk.
I'm going to take it to my carrier's in-store warranty center. They said with it rooted it can't be replaced, but they can try to repair the button if it's stuck.
We'll see what happens.
Has anybody had to replace their power button themselves before?

Well I just disassembled my S3. The power button mechanism seems to be just fine. It clicks down with pressure and releases just as I would expect it to. I'm thinking my issue is something electrical or battery.
Were you doing anything when your phone went in to boot loop? I was just texting someone and then.. poof!
What ROM are you using?
So today my phone started to power it's self off. When I power on it shows the kernel screen for a few secs then powers off. I can boot into Recovery (CWM) and when I select reboot it does the same. If if I boot in to Download Mode, it only stays on a few secs.
Is it the power button? Any ideas?
I'm running the BMS Kernel and C-Rom 6.6. I have had this same rom and kernel for weeks with no issues.

Interesting, I have not had any issue with the battery. I'll look into it. Any way to test without using another battery?
Anything else it could be?
Using CWM built in key test it seems it is the power button, when I touch the power key it reads as if it is being touched multiple times or heklod down. Any Fix without replacing the button?
Not that I know of I have only seen replacing it fixes it
Ive seen several people report that opening it up and jiggling the button can help, but when it does it is only temporary.

It's fairly easy to replace. You can buy a button off ebay for fairly cheap and look on YouTube to replace it.
Sent from my SGH-I747M using XDA Free mobile app
I agree it sounds like a stuck power button. My experience with this problem first showed in a captivate of my moms. It was very bizarre tho. On stock ROM it would constantly do the vibrate, cycle, vibrate etc. On a custom ROM however, it has had zero problems with the power button. Maybe try that? Not a sure fire fix, just telling what happened with the Cappy. ☺
If this is power button problem you can try (what i did and worked, but it is your choice and you can damage your phone) drop little of oil in power button and press couple time with out battery in phone.

That's actually fairly dangerous for your device. I would suggest an air duster if you think it's dirty.
I'm actually having the same problem. It just started his morning.
The phone won't boot normally. I get the kernel boot screen, sometimes a Samsung screen, and then it turns off. 2-3 seconds max.
I can get it into download mode, but after 3-4 seconds, it spontaneously shuts off.
Recovery mode (CWM) is completely stable. I can get in, make back ups, perform a key test, etc. When I run a key test, it shows that the power button is a little sensitive, but not crazy. If I jiggle it some (mostly back a little) it registers a key press, even if I'm not fully pressing it. If I do press it fully, sometimes it doesn't register.
If this is really a button issue, why is recovery stable? Even if I put the phone on a flat surface with nothing that could touch the button, the phone still doesn't stay in download mode (it just shuts off.) When I put the phone in recovery, place it on a flat surface, and perform the key test, the phone isn't registering a key touch.
I've tried 3 different batteries, kept the phone plugged in, popped the battery and held the power button to discharge everything, wiped the cache, wiped dalvik cache, and used CWM touch to reboot (and avoid the power button all together.)
The only think I can think of that's maybe different is that gapps was FC'ing more than normal this morning (before the phone crapped out.)
I'm running StockMOD ROM 4.4.2 R2 with the Ktoonsez Kernel for TouchWiz 4.4.2.
EDIT: Also, when it's plugged in, the LED doesn't light up. I'm not sure that it's actually charging. I do have a wall charger, so I can verify that the batteries I'm using are charged.
Try flashing a different rom from recovery to see if it still happens. Also try a factory reset. If you get as close to stock as possible and it still happens it raises the probability thst its hardware.
If you put the battery in and wait a few moments does it turn on by itself?
Band-aid
@DocHoliday77 I messed with the phone a little later tonight and recovery became unstable. I'm convinced it's a power button problem now. I think the internal mechanism gets stuck and that's the issue.
When I put the battery in, the phone does try to boot by itself.
I used the advice in this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=53915864 and I was able to get up and running again. I opened the phone up, blew some compressed air on the button, tapped the flat side of the button lightly a few times with the end of my screwdriver, and put everything back together. I was able to get back into recovery, and then reboot normally.
I ordered a new power button and I plan on replacing it next week when it gets here, just to be on the safe side.
You guys at xda are life savers!
The booting up on its own after inserting the battery is a classic symptom of the power button going bad. Glad to hear you got it working for now, and that you are ordering a replacement. Everyone ive heard about getting it to work using any number of methods have always found it to only be a temporary solution.
Just a thought, in case it starts up again, maybe remove the plastic piece until you replace the switch. Hopefully that would help prevent it from getting accidentally pressed in your pocket or by bumping it into something. (You could probably still access it with a toothpick or something like that if needed)
I agree it's the power button. I just posted about my little experience on Google+
I tried seriously whacking it on the floor and everything. I wouldn't recommend that but I had no warranty and no funds for repair. Others had said that beating the crap out of it worked so I thought why not lol...
https://plus.google.com/116004961340303353216/posts/ig2ogLeUWJ8
Long story short, my beating it up didn't work but it did wake it up. It falling on the floor however, jarred whatever was stuck and it now works like a charm...good luck

I had the same problem and pulling the battery wasn't cutting it. This worked for me:
1. Take out the battery
2. WITH THE BATTERY OUT OF THE PHONE AND NOT PLUGGED IN, press and hold the power button for about 15 seconds.
What this does is it drains all the power stored in the phone and takes the power source away so the phone can fully reboot and refresh the power cycle.
3. Replace he battery and plug in the phone to the OEM LG Charger that came with the phone.
4. Let the phone charge for about 15 minutes then try to turn it on.
This worked for me but some phones are DOA being the phones are still in early production. It takes a few months before they work out all the Kinks.
I figured I'd add my two cents. I had the same issue with my D851 (T-Mobile) version. I was copying a file over my from computer and halfway through the phone shut off. I thought the screen timed out, but it wouldn't turn back on. I pulled the battery, tried holding the power button without the battery for 60 seconds, putting the battery back in, charging without the battery... nothing. The LED would never light, and the phone would never turn on. I contacted LG and it's currently on its way back to them for replacement.
I work for a wireless service provider and not only sell this phone but own one. I also had the problem and unfortunately the battery out power combo did not work for me either and swapping the battery was to no avail. I have seen one other DOA as well. I have noticed the new LG models have had some significant flaws and lemons when they've first come out but I feel the specs and price you get are worth the risk so if this does happen to you I wouldn't throw in the towel on LG quite yet. However the way LG reacts to this will speak volumes to the company's overall success in the industry.

what would happen if I tried returning my phone with root and another rom on it and it won't turn on?
I tried manually going to twrp but went to recovery instead, restarted phone and now it won't turn on. I've tried the suggestions in this thread to no avail.
Won't turn on
My LG G3 D855 first had this problem of restarting on its own when I play with its camera and while restarting, the phone is getting warmer. And now, it wont turn on. I press the power button while it is off, it tried to turn on until the LG logo screen and then it shuts down on its own and restarting non-stop until that LG logo screen and turning off again. When I plugged in a charger, it manages to turn on but only to the pass code part and then it turns off again and the battery charging screen when phone is turn off, is displayed. The battery showed was higher than the battery showed when during the pass code stage. Is it the battery problem? I haven't send the phone to be check yet, I hope its the battery..
Clearing phone
My won't turn on either. I filed an insurance claim and am getting a new one. But I have to send my old phone in. I was wondering how I can get all my info off of the old phone before I turn it in. I don't want some one to get my info that is on that phone. How do I clear it all with it not turning on. Is there a hard drive from the phone I can remove?

The plan: Put the phone into recovery and then push " power on".
The method: To get into recovery, push power and volume down together until you see "system recovery" ( it will take a while- maybe more than a minute) and touch "continue power up" by depressing the power key.

Just wanted to say this worked for me. Thanks.
Hi.
I had a HOX which I wanted my daughter to use, which was running android Revolution custom ROM, but the battery was on the way out. So I purchased a new battery, dismantled the phone with no issues, changed out the battery and put it back together. I then gave it a full charge, till the charge light was green. But now the phone will not switch on at all. I have tried the usual button tricks, power + Vol Up & Down, Power + Vol Down to try and reset the battery status or boot it into recovery, but nothing works. I just get a Green double flashing light after about ten seconds, and this only goes on while you hold the power button down. The phone is recognised when you plug it onto the PC. I tried updating the drivers in the PC to see if this woudl help, as I read this as a suggestion as well, but nothing seems to be able to get it to start up again.
Took it apart again today, put the old battery back in, checked no cables had come out. All well but it still will not power up.
I am at a loss as to why this is the case. Spent the last week on and off online looking for a solution, but have found nothing that works.
I can't find anything about a double flashing green light when you try to power up the phone.
If anyone has any idea how to get it at least booting back into recovery that would be great!
TIA.
