Flashing a framework-res from UOTK - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all,
I have a stock rooted rom 2.29.405.5.
Hboot: 0.93.0001 (PVT3 SHIP S-ON)
Recovery: ClockworkMod v2.5.0.7 (Should I upgrade to the latest version? If so, how should I do it? Any guide?)
My rom must be odexed.
I would like to install my own framework-res.apk from the UOTKitchen..
Am I able to do that?
What are the exact steps to follow?
Thank you for your time!
PS: Haven't checked the "is this thread a question" as I saw it the sec I clicked the "Submit New Thread" button, sorry!

http://uot.dakra.lt/how_to/ Everything is here, very good tutorial.

Thank you for the link!
It says at this guide:
Flash UOT zip -- So I should: install zip from sdcard -> choose zip from sdcard
right?
Why is it wrong to do this via adb with push and pull functions?
Should I upgrade clockworkmod recovery?

I never used clockworkmod, but I guess that would be the right way to do. Personally, I haven't tried adb yet, flashing through recovery is easier for me.

But I have to use the pull function so as to get the framework-res.apk, right?
Is there any other way to do so?

Not necessary, it's easier to choose the ROM you want to modify from the Kitchen's List.

Well I pulled it with adb just to be sure!
At the kitchen it says:
ClockworkMod 3.x (recomended)
I have ClockworkMod v2.5.0.7 and via rom manager I can see this:
Current Recovery: ClockworkMOd 2.5.0.7
Latest Recovery: ClockworkMOd 2.5.0.7
Also at the kitchen we have this option:
Flashing for Data++ Rom
I have flashed this rom with this mod A2SD+.
This means that I should check this option?
But after a search here I've found these:
Clockwork 4.0.0.5.z110623
ClockworkMod Recovery - 3.2.0.1

Could somebody please help me with the choices at the Kitchen page(where we upload the framework-res.apk for froyo) depending on my rom and the Data++ mod I've installed?
Thank you!

[Q] Now that s-off is on?

Now that we have s-off is updating to the leak 2.2 easier or the same as before?
MUCH easier! Now all you have to do assuming you're already rooted and have applied the new unrEVOked forever patch is upgrade your radio then flash any of the 2.2 Froyo roms that are out right now. No more having to RUU thanks to unrEVOked our lives just got a lot easier.
so if i have this right, i would download the radio update put it on my sd, then go into clockwork and install it, then i can install a 2.2 rom from there and reflash?
heyitslou, thanks
Not clockwork I don't think, you'd go into bootloader menu and upgrade radio that way. I'm not sure if clockwork supports radio updates
i figured out the problem, it was a format issue on my card it wasn't FAT32 >_<
Just to confirm... as mentioned above you have to install the radio file from hboot.... and not rom manager... once you have ran that and also ran the s=off, you can then use rom manager to install anything you like.
that is true...now my next question do we need to do the wipes before doing roms still or no...i know i ask a lot of questions but this is my first smartphone and at some point i would like to contribute to roms/themes/apps/etc
With s-off...I want to flash the latest CMR

Anything? How about a new CMR recovery like 2.5.0.5? ROM manager only will let me install 2.5.0.1. Actually what good is a program like ROM Manager if they don't keep it updated with the latest recovery?
Can anyone tell me how to flash the latest CMR recovery after they have installed unrevoked forever (S-OFF)? Looks to me like I need to create an "android-info.txt" file and zip it up with an IMG file. But I'm not sure how create or what to include in the android-info.txt file...

Here's how I flashed the latest ClockworkMod Recovery. This is assuming you have all the right drivers that you were able to run Unrevoked 3 to root your phone.
Download the 2.5.0.5 image of ClockworkMod Recovery.
Run Unrevoked 3 but do NOT have your phone plugged in yet.
Go to File and select Custom Recovery and then select the 2.5.0.5 img
Then plug in your phone (with USB debugging on, of course) and let it run.
hope this helps.
the 2.15 radio andrynalyne (spelled wrong) posted also contains the latest clockword mod recovery (2.1.0.5). so if you want to update your radio and recovery image, that will take care if both of those for you

Thanks. I was aware of this procedure. But I wasn't sure it was okay to do it after installing unrevoked forever. Are you sure it's okay to run the unrevoked 3 again after I have already installed unrevoked forever?

I wasn't aware of that. Thanks. Then I don't need to do this if I am already flashed to 2.5.0.5. It's hard to tell from ROM Manager. It always says 2.5.0.1...

i don't see why it would be a problem running unrevoked 3 again after unrevoked forever if you're just using it to install the latest ClockworkMod Recovery.

I just checked my recovery version by re-booting with the vol dn + pwr buttons and it did upgrade to 2.5.0.5 when I did the radio update, and so I no longer need to attempt this. Thanks again.

[Q] ROM Manager Howto

I'm so confused as to how to use ROM Manager on the slide. And the posts in the slide forum about rom manager aren't really any help.
Can someone please make a howto for the use of rom manager for the slide?
So far, i've updated the recovery to version 2.5.x.x (or something like that). Right now, i'm trying to install ChromaticSlide and i tried to do the "install from sd" option in rom manager. When it reboots to recovery, i get the phone with the green arrow for <1sec and then i get a red ? mark and if i don't touch anything it reboots. If i do press a button, i get the error messages.
How do i go about flashing through rom manager successfully?
If you have clockwork recovery on your SD card, inside a .zip called update.zip, you go into your normal recovery, the stock android one, then you flash that recovery (update.zip). Then it should boot into clockwork.

This can be caused by two things.
A) Do you still have the update.zip from on your sd card from when you rooted?
B) Did you flash the eng build?

A) Yes.
B) Yes.
Still no Clockwork for me.
i can get into clockwork just fine manually. But how do i flash through ROM Manager like other people do in the ENG build? It won't even reboot into recovery when i select the option.
It seems not to like to work on the ENG build (and yes i'm running the ENG build). ROM Manager will download the newest recovery image, but it will only stay in the clockwork folder on the sd card. I did though seem to get it to work after flashing to a CM6 build (it put a recovery-update.zip file in a different folder inside the clockwork folder and when i said boot into recovery to flash a ROM, it has the phone with green arrows and flashed fine, it just won't do it from ENG build)
EDIT FOR CLARITY:
A) I have the update.zip i used for root in the root of the sdcard.
B) I have the ENG build flashed.
I also have free rom manager installed. I selected within rom manager to flash clockwork recovery (which it did and says the current and latest recovery is v2.5.0.1).
It also created a file in sdcard/clockworkmod/koush.tandtgaming.com/recoveries/ called recovery-clockwork-2.5.0.1-espresso.zip.
If i go to flash a rom from within the ENG build using rom manager, i get the option to "backup current rom" and to "wipe data and cache" before flashing. And when it goes to reboot, it doesn't do anything.
However, when i went to flash from ChromaticSlide to CM6 using rom manager, it put a file called recovery-update.zip in one of the clockworkmod folders and rebooted and flashed without any input from me. So i'm confused as how to get ROM manager to work from within the ENG build. I also don't get a SU permission notice about rom manager from within the ENG build but i do get a SU permissions request from within the other ROMs by rom manager
EDIT2: Lol, i just told rom manager to flash clockwork a 2nd time and it gave me the SU permissions request and then when i told it to boot into recovery, it rebooted into recovery. Nevermind about the last stuff.

[Q] Do I Need To Upgrade My Clockwork Recovery IMG?

Hi i followed the xda wiki guide to root my phone and it said to push clockwork recovery img 3.0.2.4. so when i go to the clock work menu, it says 3.0.2.4. i have downloaded the latest rom manager on my phone which is version 4.3.2.4. im wondering if i need to reflash the latest clockwork onto my phone again or can i just leave it as is?
I don't quite understand your post -- according to ROM Manager, the latest CWM recovery is v3.0.2.4...
but when i go to rom manager it says i need to flash clockwork recovery mod even though i already have the clockwork recovery menu. should i just reflash it?
The latest official ClockworkMod Recovery is 3.0.2.4. The very latest UNOFFICIAL CWM recovery image is 3.1.0.1 (check my signature), and that brought back sd-ext support (and is needed for the latest PyroMod ROMs).
ok thanks but should i just clik flash clockwork mod recovery? i already have it when i installed it during the root process. if i click flash clockwork mod recovery will it screw up because i already have it?

No it won't mess anything up to flash it again via rom manager. What color is the text in the cwr you have right now? Is it orange?

If it says "CWM must be installed" or words to that extent, just hit the option at the very top of ROM Manager and follow all prompts. That will install 3.0.2.4 to your phone. If you want to install the current official Froyo build, scroll down and install the 2.5.1* recoveries.
yes its orange text
also it says my phone model is G2. is that ok even though its the DZ?
ok i got clockwork recovery to work. im going to install virtuous unity on my phone. do i just place the .zip folder in the root of my sd and then boot into clock work recovery to install? also do i need any new kernals for the virtuous unity rom or can i just use the stock kernal?

Just place the zip in the root of your sd card, fire up CWM and follow normal flashing procedure:
1. NANDroid back up
2. Wipe Cache, Davlik, Data, Battery Stats
3. Install from zip
4. Reboot phone after first boot
I believe Unity comes with an OCable kernel up to 1.5GHz. They do not recommend you use SetCPU or CPUTuner as the built in daemon reacts faster than those apps.

Just put the .zip file onto the root of the SD, and flash from ROM Manager. All custom ROMs come with kernels. You only need to flash a kernel if you want to add different overclock options, CPU governors, or to try to clear up a specific issue. The kernel included with Unity works just fine.

[Q] New Clockwork Recovery 5.0.0.0

Hi... I just found that Clockwork Recovery has new version from their website but in zip format. Try to install it through ROM Manager and recovery mode but it is just temporary recovery. Every time I enter recovery mode by pressing power and vol down and choose recovery it is back to old recovery.
Does anyone try this new recovery and how to make it permanent or is it available in img format so I can flash it using Android Flasher.
for your reference please find it here :
hxxp://download.clockworkmod.com/recoveries/recovery-clockwork-5.0.0.0-bravo.zip (please change hxxp into http)
*** sorry for my horrible English and grammar
it is cause you use the fake-flash method, launching CWM 5.0.0 by flashing a .zip file from your current recovery.
in order to permanently change your recovery you would have to be S-OFF and have a .img file of the new recovery
My HTC Desire already S-OFF but where to find this img file of new CWM Recovery?
I have search over Google and this forum but did not found. Is it possible to change this zip file into img file?

Yes but not all file available.
like HTC Bravo only latest recovery in zip format only.
Thanks
Yeah, but as this thread is for v5.0.0.0 then people will want the newest will they not?
someone already did some test?
for example backup the current rom (maybe one with ext partition), then flash an other rom (just for test), and then restore the backup (and see if boots and everything ok)?
i will try later anyway, but of course will be nice to already know if its work or have some problems
Has any one had the edify script error with CWM 5.0.0.0 recovery ?
I flashed CWM 5.0.0.0 today via fastboot and it works fine - however I tried flashing Cool 3D V9 Rom and then when i flashed the boot loop fix & got the edify scripting error does any one know of a work around ??? I did a search and i found some code by coolexe and baadnews but not sure if there is a way to fix this ?

follow koush or clockworkmod on twitter..5.x has faster backups (now it used .tar files) and preserve the file system of each partition (if ur sd-ext is ext3, it will be backup and restore as ext3, if u have ext4 it will be ext4, etc..with previous cwm recoveries the sdext was restored always as ext3)
also a new color sheme..now is blue light
edit: new recovery seems available 5.0.1.0 http://download.clockworkmod.com/recoveries/recovery-clockwork-5.0.1.0-bravo.img
I read from a koush twit :
"Desire and Desire CDMA users: I have just switched you to real flashing rather than fakeflash. You will need to S-OFF. with unrevoked."
so, out of curiosity, how Rom Manager can flash the recovery for real?
I always use fastboot, and i though there was no other way than that and the PB99IMG.zip method..
Someone know how that works (i mean the flashing through an app)?
i'm fine with 4.xxxx

Well there have always been another way just not on desire, since s-on users couldn't write to system or recovery while system was booted. But with s-off using a flash_image script will work just fine, which is pretty much what rom manager does(i assume).
So I asked koush on twitter to change us to native recovery flashing since s-off have been around for quite some time for desire
edit: so for everyone s-off that means: to update just install/open rommanager and press "flash clockworkmod recovery"(tested and working just fine)

Thanks to ur tips, i found how it works!
from the terminat emulator on the phone:
Code:
flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery.img
that should flash the recovery (even other partition i though), without use fastboot and without use the pc! thats nice!
On AOSP roms the flash_image utility is already included on /system/bin..in other roms (like stock ones) it should be downloaded and placed on the phone and used in the same way
that probably what rom manager does
So there is no way to get the latest version of ClockworkMod Recovery if we are on S-ON ?

Cannot flash CWM 5.0.2.0 with rom manager in miui

Hello everyone,
i used to have rom manager and cwm 2.5.0.7 working fine under MIUI.Then i decided to replace the cwm files with the 4ext recovery. All went ok and i was able to fakeflash with rom manager and boot into 4ext until one i day i decided to fakeflash via rom manager the newest cwm 5.0.2.0 Although it says flashing complete when i try to reboot into recovery it gets me to the old 2.5.0.7
Any ideas?
Are you s-off? If yes, flash recovery via fastboot.
No, i m not
Actually i dont want to replace my permanent recovery.Just to be able to use the fakeflash version in rom manager!
Follow these instructions:
go to settings > applications > manage applications > ROM Manager > #uninstall#
End of all your problems. ROM Manager is a third party app that just causes problems, it is a lot safer to just boot into recovery manually (power off, hold volume down & power, use volume keys to navigate RECOVERY, press power to boot into recovery)
If you want to fakeflash through recovery, all you need is the recovery.zip, and fakeflash it like you'd flash a ROM.

I agree with the other: dont use rom manager
anyway, u can't flash it beacuase the last version of rom manager do not use fakeflash anymore, it's need s-off now
so, u must s-off, then better if u flash it with fastboot, and use the recvoery manually
Thanks for the replies people
Nothing wrong with 2.5.0.7, it does the job. Remember to press the 'Thanks' button rather than just saying "thanks".
Offcourse its nothing wrong. But i used a fake flash version of 4ext recovery via rom manager thats why i started this thread.Because i m no longer able to fakeflash another recovery via rom manager.I know it can be done via permanent recovery.

as i said, latest rom manager does not support fakeflash anymore!
I had the same problem, then I go s-off and was able to flash recovery also via RomManager...
I believe ROM manager doesn't support fake flash on the desire as this was breaking many desires that had true flash versions of recovery.
It got so bad at Android forums, we had to create a thread warning people.
http://androidforums.com/desire-all-things-root/356192-warning-do-not-use-rom-manager.html
Anyway for me 2.5.0.7 is still my favourite recovery.
Don't really understand the need for ROM manager anymore. It made lots of sense before Unrevoked came along. Now it seems to me just helping the lazy get lazier (but of course this is just my opinion)
