I want to flash Revolution HD 5.2.0.
Right now my device is running on ARHD 5.1.11
I asked myself, which full wipe I should use. Should I use full wipe 1.3 or 1.5 or something else?
I'm sorry, if this question has been asked already but I'm thankful for answers

Use full wipe 1.5, it is meant for EXT4.Full wipe 1.3 is for EXT3 roms.
thx for your help
Someone tried to flash Full Wipe 1.5 and ARHD 5.2.0 and an error occurs.
Also in the AHRD Thread there was someone, who asked the same question as me and they told him to use "Format_data_partition_EXT4.zip" - would it be the same as Full Wipe 1.5 or do you recommend using this instead of Full Wipe 1.5?
I dont know if the guy, who used Full Wipe 1.5 has this error because of Full Wipe 1.5 or because he made a mistake.
I'm just a bit uncertain about it ^^
I'm thankful for your help, but it appears, that Full Wipe 1.5 occurs an error.
After reading, what i probably should've done before, i figured it out

Since CM and Virtuous updates itself once every 2 weeks or so, I don't want to keep on reinstalling everything over and over and over again.
Is there a way to keep all my settings on all my apps AND have my ROM upgraded from CM 6.0 to 6.1?
Yes you can keep everything if you're upgrading from CM 6 to CM 6.1. When you flash from recovery, all you'll want to do is to wipe cache... you don't need to wipe the phone unless the upgrade is causing you trouble. When switching roms entirely, you may need to wipe the phone.
But I flash the nightlies all the time, and wiping the cache is sufficient.
If you are switching roms, use titanium backup. The batch operation definitely makes restoring apps and data quicker.
Same is true for virtuous. Only need wipe for major changes. If i remember right its major.minor.bugfix i forget the last one but anyway only wipe on the major updates.

1. How do I wipe cache only?
I rebooted into recovery and i saw several wipe options but didn't know which one i had to wipe.
2. I was actually already at 6.1 RV3. Is there any point at all in upgrading to RV4? Or can I wait until it's at like 6.2 or something.

I cant answer number 1. Id guess if there is an option for wipe cache then select that. To answer number 2. RC4 will be more stable then RC3 or more features at least. If you dont want to help test these then i would wait until the official stable release. Fyi 6.1 has been released you should install that one.

So since my coming here, i got the phone rooted and added a sense rom to it from virtous version 1.0.1, also its over clocked a lil bit
now the phone was never right since the get go with this... but what im wondering is if i do a factory reset, what will happen? since i didnt save any image before, and have nothing to revert back too.... will it revert back to the stock htc desire z rom, or will it just reset back to a proper version of the virtous rom??
i only ask , cause so far my internet still doesnt work well, my bluetooth is always dropping calls, my market still doesnt work etc.....
any help/info would be great
Cheers all
If you wipe data/factory reset it will revert back to.... nothing. And stay and the HTC screen. Just DLa new ROM and flash through recovery(CWM). After you wipe data/factory rest... before you reboot.
I'm really digging meXdroidMod right now give it a try. (No sense though)

Don't forget to wipe your dalvic cache aswell.

Actually, I thought a factory reset simply wiped your data and cache partitions (so you lose all of your downloaded apps as well as all phone settings). Everything else should be left untouched (as in the phone will boot back to Virtuous 1.0.1 as if it were freshly installed).
Also, the dalvik-cache is stored on the data partition (unless you or the ROM you are using decided to move it), so wiping data will wipe it anyway.
ummm ok so which is the correct one here... i was under the impression that the last post here is what would happen... it would revert to a fresh installed Virtuous rom....
I know the problems im having must be from me not doing a full wipe when i installed it... i just needed to back up some stuff before i was able to do that,
but since i have done all that, I can clean the phone and start fresh, to hope all my stuff will work...
but can someone pls confirm which is the right information here
On my g2 when I did a wipe it went back to the stock rom that's on the g2 perm rooted I can't say for your phone though the best thing is to download a new rom system and cache wipe and then install a new rom

Factory reset only wipes the applications/personal data. The system partition (whatever rom you installed) stays there and it'll just reboot as if it was the first time ever.
So if you have a rooted stock rom, it'll go back to how you got it (probably non-rooted) and if you have any version of virtuous that'll still be there etc and will boot like the first time.
Factory reset also DOESN'T touch the bootloader, radio, radio, s-on/s-off or anything else, just the user data. Hope this helps to clarify!
yes it does, im hoping this will fix all the problems im having with my phone....
and just to confirm, a factory reset with the virturous rom installed, will reset my phone to the way the rom is ment to me, with zero possible overlaps from not doing a wipe when i upgraded??
So a "fresh" copy of the virtuous rom will be in place, and it will be like a brand new phone again.... then i just re add everything i need too/want too
I tried a ROM update today (Magnolia) and my phone is now seriously slow (including SpeedTest which shows about 50Kbps download speed). I attempted to reinstall the same ROM and to restore a Nandroid (neither of which has helped). I did every wipe present in CWM v2.5.1.2 (I know v3.x.x.x is not a good wiper) and in HBOOT, also all to no avail.
It is possible that the ROM is focused on carefully updating itself rather than completely overwriting.
Does anyone have a recommendation as to the best way to really ensure that no old runaway processes are surviving the flashes (ROM or Nandroid)? I am wondering if flashing another ROM would do it (it wouldn't try to update), but am very open to suggestions.
Thanks!
I had the same problem when I would install a rom with the CW 3.0.0.8 and it will just update the current rom, and not do a full wipe like I just to get before with the CW 2.x.x.x what I have done to get a clean install is this...
- I dont use the Rom Manager no more to update...
- Boot into Recovery and do the Following before you install a new Rom..
1-) Wipe Data/ Factory Reset
2-) Wipe Cache Partition
3-) Install the Rom .Zip with CW
Thats how I have done it before hope it helps...
Dont use rom manager to install go into recovery. Do a factory reset twice, then goto mounts and storage and format manually, data, cache, system, boot. Do that twice or more and youre super wiped as you put it. But as far as magnolia goes...did you make sure that you dl'd the flashover and not the whole rom?

Pete - Thanks. I never use RomManager to do ANYTHING (and remain surprised that people do). I do factory reset and wipe in CWM but never formatted system; which I just posted in the Magnolia forum as being what I thought is causing all the trouble. At least this lets me know how to manually do it. Thanks

Building on this- I do EVERYTHING from recovery. In addition to the steps listed I also go to "mounts and storage" and wipe /system, /data, /cache, and /boot. Eradicate!

I gave out a loud guffah when reading this thread title. Maybe stuff's just funnier before having coffee.

Say I want to flash a new version of the rom i'm using do I need to wipe everthing again?
After multiple updates it's usually a good idea for a full wipe. However just one update you'll be fine wiping cache and dalvik only. If you've flashed a custom kernel then you'll need to reflash that, along with any other mods you've made to the system.
Read the thread for the rom and double check that it isn't recommended to do a full wipe for this particular update. Also make a nandroid backup just in case you encounter any problems.
I only flash updates of the same rom, usually only wiping dalvik and cache. I do make sure to do a full wipe about once a month though. It keeps the phone running smoothly and helps weed out apps that I don't really use when I go to restore.

It's always recomended to do a full wipe unless the op says otherwise. Some ops will make patches that do not require full wipe. If you don't full wipe, don't complain about problems. It's the first thing you will be asked. Use Titanium Backup for your apps and wipe away. Always nandroid first just in case you make a mistake.
thanks for the great answers guys appreciate it
You're welcome, just trying to be helpful.
I'm readying my rooted Wildfire for sale, which has been flashed with an Android 4.0 ROM (a modded AOKP ROM I found here). Of course I'm wiping stuff so that it works like new, and this brings me to my question. Using CWM (version 4.0.1.4), which actions should I take in order to properly wipe it? I've given it a factory reset, should I also wipe the cache partition, battery stats and/or Dalvik cache?

Fully charge it, wipe everything bar battery stats and switch off. Unless your selling it to someone who wants a custom rom I would consider flashing a stock rom, but keep s-off and cwm. Just to avoid any newb confusion on the buyers part
