Are you flashing a new boot animation zip through recovery? If I wipe cache partition and Dalvik cache it works all of the time for me

Yes I'm flashing it through recovery. If I wipe the cache....doesn't it uninstall the operating system and I have to reinstall?

I just wiped cache and dalvik and installed the animation and it still didn't work.
Is it called bootanimation.zip? If so try pushing it to system/media with root explore

Are you using a kernel that supports bootanimation.zip's? Te stock kernel uses .qmg files for its bootani.

Can someone please tell me how I can uninstall the gingerbread theme from my epic 4g? I installed it, and at first I received a bunch of force closes, and then when I proceeded to turn the phone off, and back on again, I got nothing but a blank screen. Any suggestions?

No. just wipe cache and dalvik no need to wipe data unless switching roms
Sent From Da Hood.
If you have already flashed the theme then the framework is there... clearing the dalvik and cache will only bring it back not uninstall it.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=853810
Bottom of my themes list is the stock theme/framework, flash this and clear your dalvik and you'll save your rom and settings. Bringing you back to stock.
when i flash a theme do i have to wipe anything or just flash and reboot....im currently using miui rom
no, just flash it.
With miui you use theme manager no need to flash it by recovery... please correct me if wrong...

its a zip file and i tried to go thru the manager like i did my elite hd theme but it didnt work..
Older miui version have issues with theme manager. I tried 3 and worked only on one of them (beleive last pne but not sure). Theme must be .tmz or .tzm -,not zip and does NOT install with flashing like sense.

i got it to work.....I appreciate the help!!
Just for future reference, it never hurts to clear your cache or dalvik. I do it whenever I flash anything...or sometimes just because it's been a month since I have rebooted.
is there any benefit to clearing your cache or dalvik after deleting anything from the sdcard?
or should this be done regularly?
Just curious.
Thanks.

Here's the way I think of it...some flashable things require it (and usually say somewhere), but you don't HAVE to do it if your phone is operating normal, and your not flashing anything...BUT, it never hurts to...and the rest is me just being anal.
WARNING!!! THIS WILL WIPE EVERYTHING
Found this over at the evo forum by evokings so i took it and made it work for us.
This will most likely prevent problems with install ROMS. Please Wipe before reporting bugs caused by the User(This means us!)
It will wipe:
Boot
Data (Dalvik-cache is included in Data)
System
Cache
You choose what you want to wipe......
This is great for flashing ROMS. If you are using a custom recovery and it has an "update.zip" option, for quicker access just rename the zip to "update.zip"
Downloads:
WIPE--ALL.zip--> Wipes Boot, System, Cache, & Data
WIPE--System_Data_Cache.zip--> Wipes System, Data, Cache
WIPE--Cache_Dalvik-cache.zip--> Wipes Cache & Dalvik-cache

You should really write that the people shouldn't test that zip, because if they don't have NAND backup - it wipes everything!

Do you just flash this zip and then install rom zip? Should you flash it more than once to make sure that everything is wiped properly?
It for sure wipes everything. Yes you would flash this before you flash a rom. Once will do

I don't think wiping boot hurts as long as your flashing a new ROM or restoring a NAND Backup with a boot.img after deleting boot.img

hi all,
every time i boot up my phone i get the "android is upgrading" message...
i already searched the forum for a solution but non worked...
- re installed titanium backup - didn't work
- wiped dalvik and cache and fixed permission - didnt work
- some people suggested deleting titanium's odex file - i cant seem to find it in /data/app (the one which is on root level)
- even full wipe wont help, it'll work fine on 1st boot but after the phone is setup i'll get the message again
i could really use some help >.<

its rebuilding your dalvik at every boot. did you flash any mod? it could also be your rom/kernel if it has a dalvik wipe script included. some devs like to trick you into believing that their mod/rom/kernel is the fastest, so they delete you dalvik on every boot. this makes it appear, yes only appear, like their stuff is extra fast. but in reality, its just a clean dalvik. also, check your init.d folder such scripts.

it should happen after flashing a new rom, or when you clear your dalvik. check if there is a init.d folder with such a script. a wipe doesnt get rid of the init.d folder, just user data.

you are using a 4.1.x rom and kernel? i just talked to Francisco Franco, he said his older kernels used to wipe dalvik upon boot.
I have similar problem. I wiped dalvik, and now it gives me Starting apps message every time it's loading. I know it's normal for apps to start lol, but I never had constant notification for it :/

Hmm using Franco 283...
But when I do a full wipe the kernel is wiped as well isn't it?
Sent from my Paranoid Powered Galaxy Nexus
maybe a rom/cpu control app with a wipe dalvik option?
Again, full wiping would delete these apps...
Maybe tomorrow I'll try installing an older version of the Rom... I hope it'll work cause this is starting to get frustrating

Ok guys, these are modded versions of TDJ's tools to add the preload partition. This should allow you to wipe cache and dalvik without jacking up the symlinks. Also for you guys having issues installing a ROM, the superwipe should fix that. First flash the ROM and reboot (important), then if you are having issues flash the super wipe and then the ROM again. Reboot and you should be good.
Thanks again TDJ!!! You rock bro.
Note to other developers: Feel free to link here from your thread, just don't re-upload them please. Thanks
Everyone else: if you see these uploaded anywhere else please let me know. I have no problem with others linking to these but do not want them uploaded anywhere else. Thanks

Sent from my dark hole called an office.
I used these scripts installing a ROM and I am having very serious issues. I was using Clockwork and when I rebooted I got stuck in a boot loop. I booted back into recovery but I was not getting fully back into recovery. I tried several times. I finally ODINed back to stock but I can't get the ****ing phone to boot up. It gets toa popup that says ""unfortunatley google partner setup has stopped" and then if I clear that "Google account manager has stopped", "google calender storage has stopped""unfortuantely the process com. android.phone has stopped". ****. I have tried ODIN to 3.5 stock and 4.0.3 both having similar issues.
Anyone have any idea, may have absolutley nothing to do with these scripts but any ideas would be very much appreciated.
What are you running and what are you trying to flash? Wouldn't be the scripts as they only wipe, format, align the partitions.

I was running CWM 6.0.2.9 touch and trying to flash the StockWalk ROM. I don't know if you have seen something like this before but it seems like I am totally unable to install any GAPPS even when flashing stock ROM in ODIN. I had flashed the same ROM before attempting to use the scripts, the reason was that I was unable to add my google account (may be a defect in the ROM but others are saying they have not had issue).
*when I say install GAPPS I am just refering to the ones that install on TW ROMS, I am not flashing a GAPPS file of any kind

OK so I thought I knew enough to not feel like a noob, but here I am with three questions.
First question is what is a "preload problem"?
Second question is this will only work on 4.1.2, and not 4.2.2 (CM 10.1)?
And the third question is will using the original DS wipes mess something up?
T mobiles 4.1.2 loads a preboot partition. Wiping cache with anything but these scripts also wipes these partitions. This script is modified to not do that. No preboot partition = boot loop.
Thus, if you're on anything BUT Tmobiles 4.1.2 you don't need this script and there's no advantage to using it.
