Hey guys I installed cm7 nightly on my phone (#114) but it turns out that my gps doesn't work I then flashed Radio_13.53.55.24H_3.35.19.25 and it's still not working. What I'm wondering is: I have nandroid backups of android 2.2.1 and 2.3.1 of wildpuzzle and cyanogen cm6. Would it be safe to do a nandroid restore to one of these backups and do you think that might fix the problem I'm having with my GPS?
I also read
ALTERNATE METHOD (SAFE) : This is working. First install cm7 and then make a nandroid backup of it. Then wipe everything and restore the previous nandroid backup of stock froyo rom and use gps to capture your location. Then again wipe everything and restore the cm7 backup. Now gps will be working. Atleast worked for me even after checking 3 times. And once gps on cm7 works, then even after a hard reset it still works. This seems to be an issue only when freshly installing cm7. This is definitely a safe method.

I would like to do this if the first option doesn't work but I'm not sure where to get the stock froyo rom. I have RUU_Buzz_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.22.405.1_signed (is this a stock froyo rom?) however my kernel is 2.6.35.13-nFinity so would it be safe to downgrade to an earlier kernel?
I haven't reflashed the radio update so should I do that before I try any of the above methods?
Thanks in advance
Ps. I did read as much as possible before posting this question but I can't really find an absolute answer
First, make sure GPS is indeed not working. Cyanogenmod will only show you the GPS icon when you actually use an app which uses GPS, eg: Any navigation app. Simply enabling GPS does not show the GPS icon on the statusbar.
Second, after you have confirmed that, (I am assuming you used Clockworkmod 2.x to flash the Radio), yes, you can downgrade to your Nandroid backups. Its safe, and, will not cause any issues. You can downgrade to your 2.2.1 Stock, make sure GPS works there, and, follow that post to get CM7 GPS working.
Thanks!
Great thanks for the help man!!

whats has the radio update 32.37.00.32U_4.06.00.16_2 done to cause me to lose wifi "unable to start"
had a fully functiong phone rooted with app2sd installed until i just updated radio
tried dropping back to my earlier version still no joy
anyone got a fix
please
You could try flashing to a newer kernel version (e.g. MCR uvoc_V11) and see if that helps, link here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=682419
If that fails, try a different ROM.
Did you not do a Nandroid backup before flashing?
I would have suggested that you flash back to your previous Radio version but I can see you have already tried that.
still getting to grips with all this
sadly didnt do a Nandroid backup
what is in the process of flashing the said kernel version what will it do give ?
will i lose all my phone data apps etc

Nope, you will not lose any data or apps.
The kernel update will give you CIFS, EXT4, tun, 8MB RAM hack (extra 8MB RAM)
CIFS (Common Internet File System) is a protocol used to enhance the wireless connection features on a smartphone.
Ext4 is a newer/better filesystem (you can use it with apps2sd)
tun (tun.ko) is a virtual network kernel driver used for routing OpenVpn purposes.
Yes, I have installed this kernel and everything is working as it should, no problems
Just flash the relevant file (e.g. if you are using an MCR ROM, flash the MCR uvoc v11 zip file for start) via recovery but do a Nandroid backup before. I recommend uvoc v11 as I am currently using it and I have found it to be very stable.
I always make sure i do a Nandroid backup beforehand because you never know what can go wrong.
If you still have the same problem, then flash back to stock ROM with this guide: http://android.modaco.com/content/htc-desire-desire-modaco-com/307683/howto-unroot-your-htc-desire/

If you had flashed one of Paul's ROMs then it will be an MCR (Modaco Custom Rom) ROM.
Place the updated kernel zip file in the root of your sd card, with the phone still connected via USB, switch off phone and then boot into recovery (hold down bottom volume key and press power button), then navigate to recovery.
The red triangle with the exclamation mark should appear, from your PC, run the relevent batch push file (e.g. recovery-windows.bat). Now, while in recovery mode menu, to perform a nandroid backup, select backup/restore from the menu and then select Nandroid.
Go back and flash the kernel zip file.
Reboot.
MCR uvoc_V11 or V!2 no download for the V11 version
cheers again

In that case, you can try MCR_uvoc_V12-signed.zip instead, which also appears to be stable.

No problem buddy, glad to help you out
If your current Radio version works well in terms of adequate battery life, GPS signal strength, reception, Wi-Fi, etc then I would just leave it. If you do not find it to be sutiable, then re-flash and downgrade to another compatible version, and see if it works any better as Radio's work specifcally depending on your region.
As you can see from my sig, i'm still using version 4.06.00.02.
Just because you have the newest Radio version installed does not mean it will work better for you
Regards,
Mas.
I have never flashed a rom to my current evo which is rooted and I love it. My question is how do I go back to my current stock state if I don't like rom. I have nandroid backups and will make another before I flash a rom, I know how to clear everything out before flashing the new rom. Can I just restore the nandroid back to return to the stock rom or do I have to do something else. Also what kernel should I use if I want to check out CM7. I have read that a lot of people use either Tiamat or Savaged-Zen. Thanks in advance.

That is correct, all you would need to do is restore a nandroiid backup, to return the exact point you were at when you created that backup. Simple as that. As far as kernels, either of the two you tried should work great. Every phone is different, so try them out and see how they run. I'd also give the stock CM kernel that comes with CM7 a chance, it ran beautifully on my device, fwiw.
I agree with buckley in regards to just using the stock CM7 kernel. I'm pretty sure Cyanongen and Co. know what they're doing...
Great then I think that I will try to install CM7. Also do I need to do the gps fix now while I'm on the stock rom or do I needed to just wait to see if I have gps problems first. Also will CM7 replace my Amon-Ra v 2.3 with Clockwork recovery.

Flashing CM won't effect your recovery. Also, I think you can do the GPS fix now before you flash. Either way, couldn't hurt.
Hi to all, yesterday I put my WF into S-OFF, i had HBOOT 0.80,i had to install RUU,downgrade... i changed splash image and i installed CM7.1 RC1 and the gps is not working, i tried to flash lastest radio and Hcdrjacob 4.1 kernel but i have CWM 4.0.1.4 so icant flash, what shoul i do to restore the gps?
THX
This is a common problem with CM7.
1) Perform a nandroid backup of your previous rom.
2) Flash a stock rom ( it doesn't matter what one; as long as it is working ). - http://www.shipped-roms.com/downloa...45.55.24_3.35.15.31_release_142213_signed.exe
3) Then your going to need to go to Google Maps and activate GPS - let it find you ( wait 15-60 seconds outside ).
4) Once it has a fix on you, restore your previous CM7 ROM using nandroid and GPS should work.
5) If that doesn't work, flash CM7.0.3; the stable build.
Note: Flashing a new radio/kernel will most likely not sort out this problem.

ill try when i arrive home, now im at work and i dont have the cable here to install official, i have to say before S-OFF i had CM 7.1 CR1 with no problems
by installing a RUU will i lost all the recovery and s-off?
S-OFF, No. Custom Recovery - Yes.
Alternatively, you can try a Safe Flash RUU Zip, if you want to keep the Custom Recovery intact:

why do you have to restore the previous ROM after you flash a new radio? I just flashed a new radio and GPS finds me in google navigation so all seems okay?
I've been searching but can't find the answer to this.
I haven't flashed a new ROM since CM6 - I just upgraded ROM Manager, flashed the new CW, and flashed ICS.
I know that previously you couldn't use the same version of CW for froyo nandriod backups and ICS backups / ROMS.
Has this been "fixed" in the newer version?
If I want to reflash my old backup, do I have to downgrade to an older version of ROM manager / CW?
THANK YOU. I don't know where to find this info!
Sorry if i didn't fully understand the question. But why don't you just try?
Make a backup of ur ICS and try to flash the froyo.
IIRC ICS uses a different partition setup to previous versions. CWM would need to be able to repart the memory when restoring backups. Maybe someone who knows more can help. On the plus side, I have bounced back an forth between GB and ICS so it could be the froyo partitions that are the issue.
Thinking further, when I had a Galaxy S, you had to repartition when going from froyo to gb or vice versa.

Don't want to brick phone
I remember when GB came out, I read posts about CW not being compatible across GB and Froyo.
I stuck with Froyo for a long time. I flashed ICS for fun, but I need to get some txts, contacts etc from my old backups (I don't sync contacts to cloud, trying for some privacy...), as well some programs I tried to restore using TB (droid wallet?) didn't work - so I guess I have to manually export the DB and reimport...
But to get back to Froyo, not sure how to do it.
My best suggestion is to find a custom froyo rom similar to what you ran before (if not the same), flash it and see if it boots. Then restore your backup.
If it doesn't boot then go back to ics or gb and extract the info from the backup manually. I did this for my bro on his og desire and worked a treat.
Or you could just stick with ICS and extract the info.

Just installed a froyo rom on my phone
Just installed one of evil'd's roms (which was froyo from the mytouch 4g) and it worked for me. I have bounced around between CM7.1, ICS (CM9's) and the ICS Sense 4.0A roms. I am running the latest CWM (5.0.2.7) if that helps.
I have been running the latest versions of CWM for a while and I don't recall any issues installing any ROM. The only concern I would have is if your NAND backup is made from a very old ROM manager/CWM verson then I feel you might have an issue.
Thanks guys!
How do you extract the info // I mean can you extract just the txts?
My backups were made using version 2.x of CW I believe...
Hi,
this i my first post on xda's forum. I've got an Htc Desire with a rom from this site : sandvold.as. I got the beta 0.11 and i did not know how to update to the beta 0.13, i did look on google but the only way i found is just flashing again the phone. Isn't it a simpler way ?
Thanks for your help !
What quicker way would you propose then? The ROM has to be copied to your phone somehow, that process is called flashing.
If you mean that you don't want to lose your settings, you can try to flash the new version without wiping. I'm not sure if that works for Sandvolds 0.11 to 0.13, but if it doesn't work out, you can always backup data with Titanium Backup or MyBackup. After that, do a full wipe in recovery, flash ROM and restore data.
Make sure to make a Nandroid-backup, just to be on the safe side.
