[Q] I fixed permissions in CWM... now my phone is going haywire! - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just updated to ACS SyndicateROM Frozen 1.2 from CWM. It updated successfully. Everything is great... until I had a bright idea to go into CWM and select "Fix Permissions".
Now, the phone successfully boots up and into the ROM. However, all the apps are going haywire! Everything keeps force closing. Nothing will work long enough before it force closes. I can still lock the phone and shut the phone down from the ROM, but I'm stuck. What do I do? HELP!!!

WHEW! Ok, it worked after I went back into CWM and did fix permissions again. BUT, a bunch of apps are still force closing whenever I load them up. Swype and Google Frameworks keep force closing on their own.
How can I fix those issues? Go into CWM and do it again?

Depending on the number of apps you can just goto settings -> manage applications -> wipe data
If its more than a few just reflash the rom or load a recent nandroid backup.

Good news is that I think I got everything back to normal. I went back into CWM and did the Fix Permissions 3 times in a row. Except my contacts are all gone. Luckily, I have them all saved to my Google account. But, for some reason they won't sync. Any ideas?

market keeps force closing! help!!

Hey guys,
Here is the issue. I thought nandroid would restore a total image of the system before i started tinkering with the new fresh 4.0 update. I nandroided my perfectly running fresh 3.5 and upgraded to fresh 4.0
I didnt like fresh 4.0 and decided to go back to 3.5
Well, it restored just fine, I booted up and the GMail and Market app were not working. I tried to clear the cache on both, but it would not clear. I deleted the apps from the system/app folder and flashed the gapps zip thru recovery.
Now gmail works fine, but the market will not launch. it force closes every time.
Ive tried every which way (even tried to install a com.android.vending.apk i foiund) and it jsut wont work.
1) How do I fix the market?
2) Why am I having this issue anyway? I cleared dalvik/cache/factory reset/ then restored the nandroid. Why did it not go back EXACTLY the way it was?
Thanks so much
Abe

**** EDIT ****
THANK baby jesus. I downloaded a com.android.vending 2.3.3 and did adb push to the system/app folder. now its working.
still doesnt explain why the nandroid restore let me down. Was not the full on "image restore" i was expecting!

[Q] Market Randomly Stops Allowing Downloads

Ok so I have a HTC G2 (DesireZ/Vision). I decided that i finally wanted to root it and go all out. So I did the permaroot and installed the newest version of Clockworkmod no problem. I then flashed the CM 7.03 rom. Booted up, everything looked good. I then flashed the newest version of gApps. It asked me to sign in and everything was fine. The final step I took was flashing the G2-Fast kernel (1.9ghz OC). So when i boot up my phone, google attempts to back up all my apps via the market. There was around 100 apps downloading. So I left it there over night. This morning i check it, the last 10 apps or so were unsuccessful. I kept trying to reinstall apps but nothing. I also tried new or different apps but all come up as "Download Unsuccessful". Since then I've tried just about everything to fix it. clearing cache/data, reflashing, superwipe, sobe's method, signing into to GTalk, toggling 2G. I figured I try a new rom. So far I've flashed meXdroidMod and MIUI, but same result. Everything is fine but market doesn't want to work. I'm contemplating reloading my old ROM that i backed up once i get home. Anyone have any ideas? I pray to the gods of XDA.
Since you have tried different roms and kernels and wiped everything. There is nothing else I can think of apart from maybe signing in with different google account or another network connection ?

the weird thing is, it lets me download apps on the website on my PC and it installs it on my phone. i jus cant download anything from the market on my phone, its like the ip is gettin blocked
i've got the same problem although i haven't tried as many solutions.
The other thing that Market does is to Force Close when it starts to d/l even though it places the icon in the System Tray at the top of the window.
Maybe i'll try to d/l it to my PC and install it from there...
Have a great morning!
Follow these steps and you should be golden.
Reboot recovery -> Wipe Data/Factory Reset -> Go to Mounts and Storage -> Wipe System -> Go to Advanced -> Wipe Dalvik Cache -> Now go and reflash CM 7.0.3 -> then the Gapps (make sure its the most recent one) -> Reboot and when you get to the setup Wizard skip everything -> (if you have a titanium backup or other backup use now) -> settings-> account and sync->add your google account-> immediately go to Market and cancel all the downloading apps ->download apps normaly
hope this helps

Decks Reloaded

OK so today my wifi went out.... Just completely went out. I tried wiping the settings and reconnecting to the Wifi point and all it does is try and authenticate, then it drops. So with a few prior bugs like this in the past, I decided to do a combo Temp Files wipe with 4.3 Smelkus MOD recovery.
EVERYTHING GOT WIPED; Go launcher is non existent, Play Store is gone, apps just magically vanished. Going into App Settings, the Symlinks are there, but the app is missing from drawer. Even all the aroma options I turned on are gone. It's basic android with no gapps. This happened to me on first install and I had to wipe my memory card and reformat. I refuse to do this again. So I am going to try and nandroid back to before the wipe.
What caused this?
In my excitement, and retardedness, I forgot to nandroid after a successful install. So it likes like I have no other choice to set EVERYTHING back up again. I'm just thankful I'm smart enough to have recurring TB backups every other day. D

[Q] All of the apps on my phone force close automatically, could it be the battery?

This is quite annoying
Every time I turn on my phone, all of the apps that start when my phone boots force close. I'm not able to send a text or even use the dialer. I'm able to browse my home screen, but when I try to run an app, either it will run for a bit and then force close, or it will close as soon as I open it. The battery I have is bad, which results in my phone turning off randomly, I know it's a bad battery because I've had this issue before and replacing the battery solved it.
Today I tried to use soundhound and while it was "listening" the phone decided to turn off. No surprise. However, when I rebooted it, none of my apps were able to run. I get the "Unfortunately, x has stopped working..." and am forced to close the app. I'm not able to do anything on my phone. I can still receive texts, I'm unable to respond to them. I should be getting a new battery in the mail any day now, and I'm hoping it will solve the issue.
I'm running cm9 beta 1. I've cleared the cache and the d-cache.
Could the battery be the cause of this? Any suggestions?
I'm gonna try to temp boot to EL29. Mobile ODIN doesn't work, am I able to use ODIN 1.85 on my computer instead? I would install the direct boot v3 file under the PDA option right?
EDIT: The apps seemed to have worked when under a temp boot of EL29. I'm gonna do a fresh install to see if that does the trick
I doubt its the battery. Maybe a corrupted install. Download files to pc if possible then xfer to phone. Verify md5 before flashing. You can get software from sourceforge if needed.
The fresh install did the trick. Still not sure how this happened, but whateva. I don't need a new phone
That's good sometimes you just get a bad flash or flash a mod that just messes things up. I have flashed things that worked perfectly for others and my phone got jacked. Its all part of the game. I keep a recent one click on my laptop just in case.
It sounds like when you installed your rom you forgot to wipe data/factory rest or when you restored app backups you installed data with system apps from a TWiz rom. When restoring backed up apps you can usually restore data for system apps from TWiz > TWiz or AOSP/CM > AOSP/CM as long as they are on the same build ie ICS > ICS or JB>JB etc. You can restore data for user apps safely regardless of rom they were backed up on. But the FC issue comes from incompatible system data it screws up the system process and causes apps to FC when it tries to load the data

Everything force closes.

Using Titanium backup I removed Voice command and installed s voice and started playing around with it working flawlessly. I went to market and started updating my apps (Just got the phone a few days ago) and tried to take a screenshot. I forgot what the command was (Power and home?) and I held power too long not knowing it's a force restart, and my phone well, restarted.... I turned it back on and it got stuck at the samsung loading bar screen and it hung with a small chunk left. Thinking something was wrong I rebooted into recover and wiped Cache. Phone booted fine but I couldn't reset my clock settings via No-frills. It said it stuck but I didn't see a change. Next thing I know everything was force closing including process.acore.
Restarted again and same thing, it got stuck at the loading bar, so this time I wiped cache and Dcache and it hung for a little, but finally finshed and rebooted, only this time it keeps saying "Unfortnately, Swype has stopped." and I can't switch keyboards.
Stock JB TouchWiz with root using TWRP. Pretty much barebones stock rom with a few safe apps disabled and the one Voice Command removed.
Help?
Which version of TWRP? 2.5.0, 2.4.4, etc. For me to get the JB roms working I had to use thederekjay's Darkside cache wipe after install. No problems since then. You can find his super wipe and cache wipe on the interwebs, he isn't hosting them on xda anymore.
2.4.4, I was unaware there was a more recent version.
This time I tried fixing permissions and still, swype is unresponsive and keeps crashing. Could you maybe link the cache wipe? My laptop is old as hell and would take me the rest of the day trying to just navigate away from this page.
I sent you a PM.
OMG TY SO MUCH. Idk if it was the wipe script or that I shut the phone off for a little bit, but it fixed my problem. TY TY TY TY TY. Thumbs up are totally going to you. If thederekjay is still here, I'll try and thumb him up too.
NP, the scripts have saved my ass a couple times!
