and when u have 720p u will save some more money for next phone + u will enjoy HD records.
for God sack this similar to BDRIP U got it?
TOTALLY AGREE!!
these are a recording dimension option on defy cm7 rom:
VGA recording, 640x480
Full Screen recording, 854x480
HD720p recording, 1280×720 [not yet, and the hard one]
could we get middle-res of widescreen recording like 640x360? (on youtube it called 360p res).
it is smaller, and lightweight than vga recording.
but it's widescreen (many people love widescreen right? )
maybe choppines will reduce on that smaller resolution.
and by the way 360p (640x360) is not that small
this is actual 100% (no zooming) of 360p res if you see on your computer

professionaly, really?
because i tried widescreen recording (480p) on cm7 is just like an upscale,
and it's blurry, and also choppy, frame drops everywhere.
thats 480p, surelly HD 720p will get worse.
defy is not good for that hd recording things.
and you compare 720p BluRayDisc RIP with Defy 720p recording result?
it's so different in terms of quality, but it's same in terms of width and height resolution (1280x720).
360p recording options would be good.

I am very unhappy with the video and photo quality of this EVO. Mine is hardware version 003. I just got it 40 days ago. I had an Epic that my son won't give back and it's 720p video is flawless, and the 5Mp photos are crisp and clear. This EVO is completely opposite. The photos are grainy and blurry and the video is terrible.
Are there any fixes for camcorder quality? I am currently running myn's Warm TwoPointTwo RLS 4.

Put them side by side on the computer and they should be about the same. The only thing the epic might get an evo in is low light situations. The screen of the epic might be playing tricks on you.

Quit whining and have some control over your kid.
The Epic also has a PowerVR graphics processor 90million per sec. Evo has an embedded Adreno 200 processor at 22million. The Epic should run the graphic significantly smoother and better.
i ment the class of the card because that determines the speed of your sd, thats y i never use to look at videos on my phone until i got a class 6 they run pretty smooth

Hi , i just checked out the One X today and i found out that when we go to video recording mode, the frame of the video is cropped to a very narrow angle, it's not as wide as when u're taking photos.
Is there anyway to disable this or increase the view angle when recoring video?
This thing happened with older phones like the DHD or Iphone4. While the Sensation/XE/XL recorded videos are as wide as taking images. And the One X is like top of the line phone, this is kind of disappointing.
Sorry for my bad eanglish
The One X's 8 MP pictures are 3264x1840 (4:3) whilst video is 1080p thus 1920x1080 (16:9)
Out the top of my head, there's no way of changing that.
No i'm not talking about "resolution". This has nothing to do with resolution, i think it happened because of the "capture while recording" feature. For example the videos recorded from the Sensation XE is exactly like the photo captured from that phone (with 16:9 crop)
While the One X's photos captured are like from a 16mm angle lens. The videos recorded is cropped to something like 50mm. That's what i mean
If u have any of the XE/XL or just the normal Sensation, try it yourself and u'll see. They have no difference switching between photo/video mode.
Photo captured from the XL(16:9):

A frame of video recorded from the XL(16:9 - 720p):
And this is what i mean by cropped frame when recording videos(for demonstration purpose only, notice the much narrower field of view):
I am gonna be very disappointed if my One X comes next week with no option to capture the video with the full sensor.
Just tried it and I think I now know what you mean...
Look at the left side of the tape measure... it's definitely noticeable :s

thanks for the quick test, the cropping is not as bad as i imagined but still , i hope they give us option to capture it at full size
"One nice feature of the One series is that, thanks to the ImageSense chip, the camera can take full 8MP stills while recording video with no detriment to the video itself."
http://android.modaco.com/topic/352944-htc-one-x-review/
Mine was the same, the video size seemed cropped compared to the photos so I just went into settings and found that the video resolution was set to 1280 x 720 and I've now changed it to 1920 x 1080.

Edit (12th June): I've just taken my first videos with the HTC One X and noticed that most of the video crop is being caused by the reservation of pixels for image stabilisation. Disabling stabilisation will give you a much larger field of view.
Cheers,

Just to avoid any confusion - the HTC Sensation doesn't capture video at the same width as still photos. It also has the same limitation with 1080p video.

I really hope HTC release an update to improve video quality (after bug fixes, their more important), I mean seriously 23fps on average??? its a quad core, it should hand over 30 easy! What you reckon the chances of HTC improving it are people????

Oh yes, I was hoping quad core devices would be able to record 1080p at 60fps cuz dual core ones can do it at 30fps
I think alot of these "downgrades" are because of the "shoot while recording" feature. If they have an option for us to turn it off and take advantages of the full sensor and better fps with great bit rate that would be awesome
I heard camera ICS) (or ICS camera+ idk the name of the app) was able to fix the bit rate problem and improved the quality a lot! The only thing that bugs me is that whenever white balance is set to "auto" the colors keep getting purpleish/pinkish...
in this video you can see the better bit rate and the purpleish thing I told you http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=km_UMzl8iPA
I'm 99% sure it's doing what the Galaxy S II does, because the 1080p image doesn't scale evenly to the 8mp full size without leftover pixels and trying to use the full-frame is too processor intensive *cough*. It is also super shaky in all the videos, which is a symptom of having a really small capture area and not utilizing the full frame. The S II uses the full width when recording at 720p and does pixel binning at that resolution, helping it reduce noise. I'd imagine the One X does something similar in 720p, so if you want the full frame, you have to pick a lower resolution like 720p.
Ack. I've seen almost a 100 One X videos already and the video capture is still awful.

I'm afraid not. The Sensation also saves native 1920x1080 footage from a portion of the sensor. It's not a huge deal, but its visible.

Hello,
i would like to know how usable you feel is the rear camera ?
Currently i do not own a Smartphone.
Would you say it is good enough for small task like a quick Youtube video or snapshots ?
Considering the small diameter of the sensor 5 Megapixel should be rather ideal.
Analysing the product pictures it appears to me that the sensor is even a little bit bigger compared to most of the Smartphones (I am not referring to the outer ring)
I would be delighted if you could upload sample images (Indoor, outdoor and low light) and videos (720p and 1080p).
A few words about the front camera would also be nice.
Thank you very much indeed!

I just wanted to bring up that my S3 took pretty awful pictures while using the stock software, but I installed CM and the pictures and videos I was taking turned out nicely. I'm sure that the same will hold true for the camera on this tablet. I'm especially excited for CM's 'Project Nemesis' in relation to his tablet.
download LGCAMERA from the play store, takes better pictures at full jpeg quality and the correct white levels. Also you can use LGCAMCORDER and set it to record 1080p 20mbps data rate video with 128bit AAC encode rate! at 30fps or higher
Hello,
i was also thinking maybe the camera could be tweaked.
@skyhawk21: Could you please upload the same scene once taken with the stock app an once with the LGCAMERA app ?
I am curios how much it improves.
That would be awesome :good: !
Also now people are starting to upload video samples on Youtube.

To play a 4k content it is not mandatory to have a 4k UHD tv. My 2 year old dell n5110 can play the Elysium 4k trailer smoothly.
It is not mandatory either to have a 4k display phone to record or view 4k content. If the gpu (/ +cpu) is optimized to play a 4k content why should I bother watching it on N3. The S3 has 720p screen, does it refrain the S3 from shooting or playing 1080p content?
Hell no.

You sir have completely lost your mind. 4K UHD is a resolution of 3840 pixels × 2160. The Samsung Galaxy note 3 has a resolution of 1920×1080. The note 3 will probably have somewhere of around 2 million pixels as a standard 1080p tv does. The 4k tv's have over 8 million pixels. While the note 3 will be able to shoot 4k resolution (3840 pixels × 2160) of the camera, the max resolution of the screen (1920×1080) can't display a higher resolution than what it's given. If the camera even on your phone shoots 1080p and the resolution on the screen is 720p then no the screen can't display the full 1080p resolution of the video. The cpu and gpu can support the shooting and playing of the video, but the screen resolution limits it and you are not watching it in 4k. If that was the case then there would be no 720p screens, 1080p screens, or 4k screens. Your right on the part of not a lot of people have 4k tv's. Most people I even mention it to don't know what 4k is.
^ what he said.
You need a 4k display to view content in 4k. It's like hooking up a blu ray player to an old CRT TV - yeah, it will work, but you won't be seeing the content in 1080p HD. I guess it's cool that they are future proofing the Note by making it capable of shooting 4k video, but realistically, it will be useless for most people.
It's my understanding from talking to.a Samsung rep that it does not record in 4k but rather upconverts the video for 4k playback
I could.have misunderstood this.but 100% he specifically used the word upconvert.
Just confirmed it does 4k.
Likewise, I picked up the GN3 yesterday and it does have 4k video for Tmobile

Hey guys,
does anyone know if it's possible to record @ 60 fps with this baby ?
Is it related to the kernel ?
Many thanks !
I know the 6P can record at 60fps due to the faster processor. And that's why it's not available with the 5x. Not sure if someone could hack or modify it to do 60fps at a lower resolution though.
Edit: But it can do 4k at 30 fps ([1920x1080] x 30=265,420,800), so you'd think the processor could handle 1080 at 60fps ([4096x2160] x 60=124,416,000).

Technically it's possible I think, even a G3 can do that.
The 808 snapdragon can do that but I don't know in what way the system or app should be modified.
The 6P has an official function within the stock camera app to do it ?
Subscribed, I'm interested.

I have never played with the 6p and was only recalling articles about its video. Seems it does not have the option for 60fps at 1080. But O read it can do 120fps at lower res? The sony camera itself can do 60fps 1080. Maybe it just needs software that will enable it.
Perhaps the default encryption makes it impossible to capture and process and write the files fast enough.
I bought ProShot soon after getting the 5x (yah $50 playstore credit). I emailed the developer and he stated they're planning on adding the ability to make 60fps 1080p. Apparently Android 6 finally added the ability to access the camera function for that? I didn't ask for any further details.

If we can recorder @ 720p/120fps and 4k/30fps, the cpu should be capable of handling 60fps in fullHD... I think is more a software thing than kernel one.
Anyway I'm intrested too, let's see...
I've installed "L Camera", today,only for testing.
But in the video section, the options for 60 fps videos are greyed out...
I know this app is for developing purpose, and it's weird to see these options not selectable.

There must be a way to enable this.

I think the same think
I find it possible. Yeah, it may require a kernel hack, but it should definitely be possible. If enough interest is generated I will try to investigate.

That would be the holy grail for me and many others... That's the only thing that I feel bad about this phone

Yes definitely, Preferably without having to root?
ViRb3, you would be our saviour! That's basically the only thing I miss on N5X... +1 for researching this! I'll happily donate a coffee or beer while your look thru the code
Would love to have this also. Some times 30 fps doesnt cut it, neither does 720p.
I do need [email protected] Interested!

I bought ProShot soon after getting the 5x (yah $50 playstore credit). I emailed the developer and he stated they're planning on adding the ability to make 60fps 1080p. Apparently Android 6 finally added the ability to access the camera function for that? I didn't ask for any further details.

Awww yea, it's because of the main reason I bought this phone, camera2 api! I don't even know if the S7 is going to have camera2, the S6 was supposed to eventually but with the time Samsung takes to do otas they should get it in 2025. ProShot just released a huge update with 4k timelapse video recording.
And is there any solution?
@ViRb3 Yes please, that would be amazing
I am definitely interested in being able to shoot 60fps @ 1080p. I would gladly send a few bucks to the dev that gets this working.
