Hello guys,
This is my first post and I really hope I will get solution.
Info about phone: rooted Froyo and installed Oxygen 2.
1. Later wanted to do partition on 8 Gb SD card. For this I used ROM manager and it simply created partition and I do not think it is kind a partition I need.
2. Everywhere it says that Clockworkmod can do this in recovery mod but mine does not have such option. Why?
3. Later wanted to flash Amon RA recovery with Unrevoked 3 but it keeps flashing Clockworkmod. Even ROM manager does not have option for installing "flash alternative recovery".
uhhh.. please tell me easier method for partition SD or flashing Amon RA recovery.
Thank you in advance.
Kreopa.
Download Gparted
http://gparted.sourceforge.net/download.php
and use ur PC to partition ur memory card , easiest way

Install
If you already have S-OFF (via http://alpharev.nl/)
fastboot flash recovery recovery-RA-desire-v2.0.0.img
Try using unrevoked 3.14. That is what I used. Personally I found this method to partition my sd much easier then gparted.

I'm looking to install a Desire HD rom on my Desire and it requires an SD-EXT partition.I tried partitioning through Rom Manager but, even tho i have it ,it says that i don't have clockwork mod recovery installed. What should i do? is it safe to overwrite the clockworkmod recovery installation through ROM manager? And is it possible to partition the sd card directly via recovery?
Clockwork Mod doesn't have partitioning in it, you'd need to use AmonRA to partition in recovery - it's the reason why I went to AmonRA as I have a 1GB partition for the RCmixHD ROM (which is awesome btw)
Thanks for the answer.
How do i flash amonRA over clockworkmod? do i use unrevoked again?
Using ROM Manager with clockworkmod I was able to partition my sd card. I also flashed desire hd rom on my desire. The partitioning process using rom manager is a bit wierd.. my 8gb class 10 sd card partitioned without hiccups, the 2 gb class 4 card did get through
Yeah but my problem is that ROm Manager doesn't let me partition my sd card because it says that i don't have clockworkmod installed even tho i have it...

Did you root your phone with unrevoked? If so then it must work via ROM manager otherwise it wont.
The directions to work on ROM Manager are this ones:
Keep in mind that first inside ROM Manager you need to select the option Flash ClockworkMod Recovery, and after that go to the SD partition option otherwise it wont work. And also remember you need to have the PREMIUM version otherwise it might not work
Now if you want to have more than a 512 mb you can use gparted. It is a livecd which means that can work on linux, mac or windows just reboot with the cd inside and is quite straightforward to use. Hope this helps.
i had this problem and here's what i did at the top of Rom Manager, it says Flash clockworkmod recovery. select it and select HTC Desire. then go to partition SD Card and select 512MB for Desire HD Roms. and a swap file of 32mb and it would simply boot into recovery and do the job. hope this helps
Hi guys.
Please, I need a little help. 2 days ago I bought Desire. I rooted it with UnRevoked 3.2.1. I also replaced SD card with a new 8 GB Sandisk. Now, how can I create all pertitions needed (ext3 and fat32)? I put on ROM manager, which does nothing, ie. when I select to create partition of 512 MB, it rebooted, but does nothing. I am Windows XP and Win 7 64 bit user. Can you please tell me how to create all necessary partitions AND neede Cache, ... folders on SD?
Thank you a lot,
Sandi
What exactly did you do with ROM manager?
I would just reboot into recovery (start phone with volume down, wait a few seconds till sd card check is over and select recovery) and go to "mounts and storage" and format sdcard. 512 mb ext2, rest fat32, then upgrade to ext3. Should work this way.
edit: ext partition size varies depending on the rom you flash and if it has data2sd.
Which rom do you want to flash?
There have been, in the past days alone, multiple threads about this. Maybe some searching on your one is a good idea. If that is to complicated i can narrow it down for you with a little hint: GParted
Actually, I thought that it will be this way. But this does nothing, so I am a little lost.
Regards,
Sandi
Ok, I rebooted phone. Having HBOOT 0.93. Going to down to Recovery. I got a ClockWorkMod v2.5.0.7. Going to Mounts and Storage. Then select Format sd-ext. It says: Formatting SDEXT:...
No app2sd artition found. Skipping format of /sd-ext.
So, how to create partition?
Thank you very much, Sandi
ok i thought that clockwork mod recovery was capable of partitioning sd card.
but you can flash amon ra recovery (this is the GSM version):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=839621&highlight=amon
have you got s-off? if yes, you can just flash the recovery via fastboot.
if not, you will probably have to do it with unrevoked.
edit: accidently hit the thanks button on your post, dont wonder
I have S-ON now. How can I then use AmonRa .IMG? I have no way to choose to load img file, as only load ZIP and so on are there.
Regards,
Sandi
Well, just start unrevoked and press CTRL + R (or just select file --> custom recovery...
Select the image you downloaded from the amon-ra thread and it should work. Haven't tried it with a custom one yet personally, but these instructions are also mentioned in the amon ra thread:

Unrevoked

Be aware that unrevoked flashes an Superuser app... so any issues related to su use are out of my control!

Once done, boot into recovery select "Partition sdcard" and use it to your likings .
Thanks anyway, I just went back to original ROM.

Of course I wanted to get me some custom ROMS, but it finished badly.
Now I did it
I rooted with Unrevoked. I went without problems. Then I created CD for AlphaRev 1.5, rebooted PC and started process to get S-OFF.
Unfortunatelly, it said after step 3, that procedure didn't finish correctly. My HTC stuck on HTC logo screen, and it throws 2 black lines on it.
I can get to Recovery mode with power+down buttons, but what to do now. It doesn't reboot at all.
I have correct RUU exe file for my HTC, but it is not recognised. Please, any help what to do?
Regards,
Sandi
OK, been screwing with iPhones for YEARS.. (Franlkly, that ****s a cakewalk compared to screwing with android phones)... Anyway, I've inherited an HTC desire that's been rooted with Clockwork 2.something, and a froyo 2.2 rom. I've since updated the hboot to 0.93.0001 FROM .83 or .84 or something... or im TRYING to get the gingervillian rom to function correctly but im having problems with the whole clockwork 3.0 thing. (I cant figure out how to install clockwork to the phone NOT the SD card.. as Im assuming i need clockwork installed to the phone to handle the whole EXT on the SD thing...
(Basically, when i run in a terminal:
su
a2sd cachesd
it returns a "cant mount sd-ext" error...
(this is my biggest problem so far... after that is... HOW THE HELL do i install clockwork to the phone (or upgrade clockwork to the phone) rather than the SD card (yes, i can run the clockwork 3.0 from the sd by entering recovery and "installing" it (which really only runs it) from the sd card (wether it's named update.zip or recovery.img or blahblahblah.zip)...
As im fairly new to the android thing (and for the record.. the android kicks the **** out of every iphone ive ever touched)... can someone PLEASE... point me in the general direction of right?
really? nothing? no one has had a single issue with going to gingervillain? and cant point me in ANY direction? THIS i find difficult to believe...
from what i understand you want to put the latest clockwork recovery onto your phone ????
if so in rom manager click (i not used it for a long time ) the top one syas something like flash clockwork / current clockwork , boot into recovery search for the zip it created and install
or you can get the img file and push it via fastboot
fastboot erase recovery (enter)
fastboot flash recovery clockwork-recovery.img (enter)
^^ thats the commands to push it once you have directed to where it is .. for eg
cd c:\ enter (then direct it to where recovery.img is preferably in tools folder of sdk )
if thats not what you want then thats just some useless info you have gathered .....lol
It's not that difficult your are just mixing up a few words.
Clockwork is a recovery, this way you can flash new roms etc. I think you are using an old tutorial about rooting etc.
1. Download unrevoked to root your device. You can select to install a different recovery in Unrevoked.
2. I would suggest using a different recovery, look for amon-ra in the rom development thread.
3. This error "cant mount sd-ext" means that you don't have an ext3 partition on your SD card. There are a lot of tutorials how to do this, but I think the easiest way is true the amon-ra recovery. (I believe that clockwork also has this option) You have an option to partion your SD card. Make that ext3 partition 512mb or 1gb in size. Set swap for 0. The rest fat32.
4. After you have done this you can type the commands again in the terminal and it will work.
You can skip part 1 and 2 if you want but I suggest that you follow them.
ps the Hboot does not matter anymore which version you have.
OK, so I've gotten a little further. Ive successfully installed Clockwork Mod 3.0.0.5 onto the phone itself (installed via terminal as:
su
flash_ image recovery /sdcard/Clockwork.img
Then did a factory reset of the phone, booted into recovery, formated the sd card with a 1G ext partition, and 128MB swap... the rest as FAT. Then mounted as USB, transfered the Gingervillian 1.5 image to the sd card and installed Gingervillian. Booted into Gingervillian, installed terminal and tried to move the Dalvik cache. TO NO AVAIL...
I still get an error saying that the davlik cache cant be moved.
Additionally, from Clockwork, after formating the SD card, i try to mount sd-ext and it says it cant...
any advice?
OK, apparently it's the SD card I was using (i was attempting to use a 32GB SD card... I swapped back to my 8GB sd card and it seems to work flawlessly.
Any ideas on what would stop the 32gb sd card from taking an ext partition?
(interestingly, google maps crashes when i attempt to a2sd cachesd on the 8gb sd card...)
I didn't need to have an ext 3 partition on my card to use Oxygen and also I didn't update my HBoot from the default.
Using clockwork recovery 2.5.0.7
Just use Rom Manager to install and reboot into clockwork recovery and then from there you should be able to clear the cache and install oxygen with no problems with only a fat32 partition.
hi all, sorry for my bad english...
here's my problem:
i tried to root my htc desire with unrevoked3 but i did this at the 3rd try for some reason. root program said "it's ok, phone is rooted". then i've installed rom manager and tried to install cyanogenmod rom, but recovery said "can't mount misc" and i can't do anything now. i rooted it one more time and it doesen't help.
Phone version?
Bootloader information?
You guys always forget about the details.
Have you also tried to install ROM directly in clockworkmod recovery ?
download the ROM zip file, check md5 sum, copy to SD in FAT32 partition
reboot in recovery
Install from SD -> choose zip file
Do not use rom manager. It's a horrible software which causes many heavy system problems here. All operations you can do with rom manager can be done directly in recovery. Sometimes you have to partition your sd card with gparted, because this cannot be done in recovery, but gparted is not that difficult to use.
Conclusion: You do not have to use rom manager.
Referring to your problem, I subscribe with black3yed's post.

Yes it can be done, just not with CWM recovery.
Hi. I'm about to install a new rom on my HTC Desire, and the developer says i need to partition my SD card like this :
*******************
But the first thing you'll have to do is repartitioning your sd card (I suggest 4ext or you can use clockworkmod recovery) like this:
1st partition fat32 xyMB
2nd partition - sd-ext - ext4 - 768MB (the 1st ext that recovery will ask you)
3rd partition - sd-ext2 - ext4 - 256MB (the 2nd ext that recovery will ask you)
NO SWAP!!!
You can use different values for sd-ext partitions, but ext proportion HAS TO BE 3:1 (like my suggestion 768:256)!!!
*******************
I flashed Clockworkmod recovery and i dont have an option in there to create 768 size partition and i really dont know how to create 2 ext4 partitions. So how do i do it ? I would really be greatful for any help here. Thank you.
4EXT Recovery Touch should be your recovery (check my sig).
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA
All you need to do is to
1. Download and install 4EXT Recovery Updater, and launch it.
2. It will ask for root access, which you must grant.
3. After granting it root access you can use it to download and flash 4EXT Recovery. You must have an internet connection for this.
4. The recovery updater app will now download 4EXT Recovery and flash it on your device, replacing the older CWM Recovery you have currently, it's that simple.
there you will find the option to create 2 ext partitions.
guess i have to install some rom first so i can get 4ext, i couldn't find an image file to flash it otherwise. On it now. Thanks.

Thank you all, you've been very helpful. I've flashed 4ext and pratitioned the SD card, my phone took ages to start, so finally i've installed the rom, gonna try it out now. Thank you all again ! Cheers.
Glad to know that your problem is solved. enjoy your new rom.
