[Q] CM 7.1 -- Google Apps crash and/or not working - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

A few months ago, using ROM manager, I upgraded my ROM from Revolution to cyanogenmod 6. I then updated frequently, following all of the nightlies with great success. I jumped onto CM7 when it came out and it worked. When I tried to update past the first release candidate, however, I noticed my stock Browser, Gmail, Maps, Google Documents, and Google Reader now crash. I even cleared all caches and data upon updating.
BROWSER and MAPS problem description: Both programs begin to open up and refresh themselves and then almost immediately disappear--sending me back to the home screen of my phone.
GMAIL and DOCs let me see myheaders, but when I click on one, it starts to open, blinks and attempts to refresh a few times, then sends me back to the list of message headers (gmail) while Docs sends me to the phone home screen.
Again, I am not getting force close messages. I have tried using ROM manager to fix permissions w/ restart to no avail. I tried redownloading Google Apps from ROM manager for 2.3.4, reflashed the Gapps, still no go.
I am completely baffled. Does anyone know what is causing the problem?

Tried a complete wipe? As in wipe data/factory reset, format boot and system?

Thank you so much for your reply. I'm sweating over here.
I just wiped data/factory reset, format boot and format system, reinstalled ROM w/ Gapps from ROM Manager, fixed permissions.
(1) The stock Browser still closes itself w/o opening any pages (no force close message). Just has Google's web address in the bar at the top, looks like its going to open it and POOF. Gone. No force close.
(2) Maps - Opens, zooms in on my location, looks good and then POOF. Gone. No force close.
(3) Gmail - Shows me headers, seems stable, click on header, looks like it's opening, white screen swipes in, sends me back to headers.
Basically, not much changed after the wipes.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: I am using an Seiko(sp?) extended battery. Could this be a factor?

If you are using cm7.x.x, make sure you are installing the correct gapps. make sur you are installing the gb-gapps for cm7. Hopefully that wil work for you.

I downloaded the newest gapps in Rom Manager and applied. Same issues.

Just to be sure, this is what I consider a full wipe:
In recovery:
Wipe data/factory reset
Wipe cache
Under Mounts and storage:
Format boot
Format system
Format cache
Format data
Under advanced:
Wipe dalvick
Back to recovery:
Install rom/gapps
Use cwm 3.0.0.7 for amoled
Use cwm 3.0.0.8 for slcd
Do all of this from recovery, not through rom manager.

That was some seriously detailed instructions. Wow - much appreciated. Followed to the detail in case I missed something that I didn't wipe. *FINGERS CROSSED*
Argh. When I booted, punched in my Google account, the Market installer came up, checked all, ended up in endless Market white-screen loop. Let it sit for quite a while, the beast never stopped, restarted. Got to the home screen and tried opening the browser... still not working.
Between this and last message, I restored my old 7.0 ROM and like I thought, it was still working. *MIND BLOWN*

Not sure what else to try at this point. I've never had a problem installing gapps on cm7. If I think of something more, I'll certainly repost.

[Q] Market and Gtalk problem

Im using Insertcoin nightly V40 and i Upgrade my desire to Insertcoint nightly V50. I perform FULL WIPED. My problem is every time i download in to the market it always stuck in " Starting download", I try different kind of solution and it didn't work and also i cannot log-in on G-talk
Have you wiped dalvik, if you haven't you should do it, even after a full wipe, it helps
Sounds more like an ISP problem. Can you connect to another website?
Also tried using a different radio?

Every time i make full wipe i also wipe the dalvik but still having a problem
I have this issue on RCMix and Insert Coin. The solution is very easy. Go into Market, select what you want to download. Exit Market. Go to 'Talk', press menu and select 'Sign Out'. Go back to Market and your download should start. Furthermore, go back to talk and you'll find that that works too, as if you hadn't logged out! I did get a freeze once when going back into Talk but it's been fine ever since and you only need to do this the once to cure the problem.
I got the same problem on v51,
Deleta data of
Google Checkout(Sometimes it's HTC checkout, still delete)
Talk
Market(cache as well)
and also the remaining apps with google in front of them(let the one with back up stay)
Reboot,
This worked for me

[HELP] Reboot led to Force Closes!

Hi there guys,
I had an issue last night which seems to have "corrupted" data on my phone. I'll try to explain. I am running AOKP milestone 5 with Franco's 512GPU #191 and I was on the Play Store updating some apps. I remember that it was something like 10 apps being updated (I recall seeing Youtube, Google+, Maps, Instagram and Chrome in the list to update). While the apps were updating I went to the Franco Kernel updater app and changed the Power Mode to one of my customs, that is max CPU 15xx MHz, min CPU 12xx MHz, governor Performance. Went back to the Play Store to check how the updates were going and then the screen went black and the phone started to reboot. After that, it took more than the usual time to boot and when it finally did, I had everything "messed up". I had a dialog asking me what launcher I want to use, I choose Nova and all the widgets can't be loaded, followed with lots of Force Closes. Almost every app I try to enter leads to a force close, and I have noticed that when, for instance, I open Toshl or other apps in which I had info, before it force closes it behaves like it was the first time I open the app (asking for the login info, etc).
I tried going to recovery to clear Dalvik cache and cache partition, tried to Fix permissions, without any luck. Is there anything I should try to do before wiping everything? I have some app's data that I didn't want to lose... I could try to get some logs if someone leads me on how to do that.
I really don't think that this is directly related to Franco's kernel or AOKP, but would sure appreciate some help/guidance!
Thanks!
Also I have just tried to dirty flash AOKP M5 and gapps again (wiping cache partition and dalvik cache) without any luck... Anyone has other ideas I should try before performing a full wipe? I am leaving the full wipe to my last resource.
Thanks
Try running using fix permissions from your recovery, it sounds like they may have gotten messed up
Should I reflash ROM and gapps after fixing permissions in the recovery? Or just fix the permissions and reboot?
Thanks!
Also, how long should it take to run the Fix permissions? My recovery is showing me "Fixing permissions..." for almost 10 minutes. Is this expected?
Thanks!
EDIT - It seems like I had the same problem reported here: http://www.drewgreen.net/wordpress/tag/galaxy-nexus/
I followed the steps and am now waiting for the fix permissions to finish. Will let you know if it helped!
EDIT 2 - Although I don't think it is perfect (I'm still getting FC's on Swiftkey, for instance), it has recovered almost everything! Now it's maybe a good time to make some backups and do a clean install!
Thanks!!

Camera unresponsive

My camera for my Galaxy Nexus has been broke for the last several weeks.
When opened, a black screen opens before shortly thereafter giving the message "gallery is unresponsive" and force closes.
I restored to AOKP build 3, updated the ROM to build 4 and flashed that (after corresponding factory reset, wipe data/cache/dalvik).
Now the camera opens, shows the "take picture" etc buttons but still has a black screen and force closes.
I assume while flashing different ROMs I had restored using Titanium backup a system setting/app that caused this problem.
I understand this question has been asked, but I have to find a solution to my problem (I have done battery pull etc.)
Any help will be appreciated.
I should mention that I have had a couple messages over the previous couple weeks where it says "SIM card invalid" and phone restarts.
I have not had this message is several days.
have you tried a different ROM?
use RootBox 4.2.2
ive been using it no problems and amazing battery life, not to mention the smoothness and pure awesomeness of the ROM

Yes. Originally this problem happened shortly after flashing codename. With this ROM, a black screen would show and then "gallery is unresponsive."
I reverted to AOKP and flashed updated version. Now camera app opens, shows the take picture etc. buttons on bottom but where the actual picture should be stays black and gallery goes unresponsive.
Have also tried deleting camera apk and re-flashing a downloading camera zip file. Same problem.

Cleared data and cache for the app. Same issue.
Very frustrating issue.
Fast boot flash back to stock. If camera is still acting up then its more than likely hardware issues
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
do you get any messages after boy saying something like: com.xxx.xxx has unexpectedly stopped. this has happened to me to. you have to format your sd card. try that
remember to backup all your important file from the sd card to your computer EXCEPT the DCIM (where a'll your pictures and stuff are. anything related to the gallery don't backup)
Why not try a complete wipe.
fastboot erase boot
fastboot erase recovery
fastboot erase userdata
fastboot erase system
In that order
then fastboot back to stock as mentioned by namtombout.
If that doesn't work it is indeed a hardware issue.

I don't think I've got any of these messages..
I will attempt the complete wipe per instructions in this thread (simply working up to the time that I actually will go through with it). I'm thinking I must have restored some system settings/camera settings from titanium backup during one of my recent ROM changes.
My battery life has been awfully poor lately as well....wondering if the restore of some system setting screwed with that as well...
Hopefully the complete wipe will get things back in order.

after you complete the wipe, DO NOT use titanium backup to restore your apps (even user apps). try fresh ones from the play store and see if that helps. if not im afraid you will have to go back to stock and then root again, flash a new ROM again, and then download your apps from the play store.
this problem has happened to me with my old phone (Samsung Captivate) but the formatting of the SD card fixed that for a while, when it started again i did the steps above and the phone worked better than ever.

[Q] [URGENT HELP] Nothing is working!

I have a HTC Wildfire S, rooted, with an AOKP rom.
One day, my phone was running slow, so I rebooted into recovery and cleared dalvik cache and system cache. I rebooted the system and absolutely NOTHING is working. after I unlock the phone, a bunch of processes stop working. Pressing the home button makes Nova Launcher crash. I have since uninstalled it, and still nothing is working.
I can't even turn the phone off using the power button. The only way I can shut the screen off is by removing the battery manually.
EDIT: I tried a factory reset, and it's still the same as before. NOTHING is working. I can go into Settings, that's about it.
A list of apps that stop working:
Link2sd
facebook
outlook
yahoo weather
google.process.gapps
nova launcher
swiftkey
superuser
ETC..
I have attached pictures so you guys can have a sense of what my problem is. Sorry if the pictures are blurry, I had to use my Ipod touch to take them.
Sorry If i have made any errors in this thread. I am new here, I just created an account right now so I can find some help to solve my issue.

Thanks @Guitarfreak12 and @aWFSuser
I did what you guys said, and I reflashed the same ROM and everything is working fine. The only downside, although, is that I have had to re-install all my apps again.
Also, would you guys know what caused the problem? I'd like to know so that I can ensure it doesn't happen again in the future.

Did you had a lot of applications installed and linked along with dalvik to sd-ext?
Then after clearing the cache on reboot the dalvik files will regenerate in the /data partition if there are a lot of apps and the /data overflows then your apps will stop working without the dex files. And clearing the dalvik cache usually doesn't help in increasing speed.........next time you should go into link2sd and use the "clean dalvik cache" option there.........

This actually happens because Link2SD can also link dalvik cache files as well, what the recovery must have deleted would be the symbolic links that the Link2SD script creates, so next time if you want to clear the dalvik cache, use the option found in the Link2sd app
Alright so it seems, instead of using the dalvik cache cleaner on recovery, I should just use the one located in Link2sd. I'll be sure to do that next time to ensure that no problems persist.
Thanks for all the help!

Resolved, no keyboard in Carbon!

Last night I worked on rooting my T-mobile Samsung Galaxy S3 by using Odin and UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.00.
I installed CARBON-KK-NIGHTLY 20140707-1036-d2lte as a ROM.
Carbon KK was running well but I noticed that it was missing some of the GAPPS.
I DL'd pa_gapps-stock-4.4.4-20140629, xfer'd the zip file from my computer to the SD card on my phone. I installed it using the cWM, clockwork mod installer, seemed to work good until I started receiving
"unfortunately, Google Keyboard has stopped" repeatedly.
I did the following..
Rebooted into recovery
Wipe Cache
Factory Reset
Wipe Dalvik Cache (under advanced)
and rebooted into Carbon KK which came up fine but still had the Google keyboard problem.
I then DL'd the pa_gapps-modular-micro-4.4.4-20140629 which is the "light" version of GAPPS, installed it, rebooted...same google keyboard problems.
I don't know what I'm doing wrong here. I believe that I'm using the correct "pa_gapps" to go with the Carbon 4.4.4 ROM.
How can I wipe everything, ROM included and start over, or do I need to go that far?
Carbon KK is working...all but the keyboard.
Thanks!
not sure if CWM has the option (twrp does, i know) but could try going back into recovery , got advanced (if available in cwm) and 'fix permissions' , wipe dalvik and cache ,might be worth a try. or you could always install a third party keyboard app. OR post in carbon thread to see if some one else has had this issue or could provide a download to just the keyboard and install. OR search XDA for one. just some ideas.
good luck.
any other ideas doc???

Thanks for the input mrrocketdog.
This is just bizzare to me. Carbon worked great upon initial install, I added gapps and it went wonky.
I did read through the FAQ's on Carbon's site. In regards to adding the gapps, maybe I didn't install it quickly enough
as they state to install gapps "immediately". I installed gapps maybe 3min after the ROM.
As of right now, I can wake up my phone and Carbon will start up and run just fine...everything except the keyboard.
I can feel the tactile vibrations of the menu keys, that's about it.
Thanks again.
It sounds like there's some compatibility issue or conflict between Google apps and the Google keyboard. Did any of them update after booting? If so, try uninstalling updates to those apps to see if it helps.

Yes, I noticed a "pop up" dialog box that said something to the effect of
"Android is installing updates" IIRC, there were 18 or so it went through.
I'll check the updates as you've suggested and see what happens.
ETA: the keypad for the phone works as it should, I can't type SMS msgs or type any info into
a browser, etc. The current keyboard is Android Keyboard (AOSP).
ETA2: I went digging around some more in the settings, switched the Android keyboard on/off a few times and it's working as it should now.
Thanks again for the help!
glad to here.!
