Just received my Desire HD and after 1st sync I noticed a message saying "Matched contacts suggestion" with a list of some of my contacts...can anyone advise what this does?
If you're talking about when you link contacts, then I believe it just links certain contacts together into the same contact. You have to check through them though, because sometimes they may be trying to link two different people into the same contact.
Yeah, for example it may suggest you to link a Facebook contact to a phone contact, and if it is the same guy, you will see his Facebook updates when he/she calls you etc.
Yes, linked contact...its strange though as I dont have duplicates, so not sure why it would try to link some contacts...under what criteria? Thanks anyway.

assumedly you've signed into facebook or twitter.
What it's doing is going through your social network friends list and saying "Aha! I have that name in the phonebook. They probably don't want them in there twice, so I'll ask if they want me to link them"
As I'm signed into facebook and twitter via the app and via sense, some of my contacts have 4 links! It's so much better than having 5 contacts in my phonebook for each person
yes, that would make sense..but I dont have facebook or twitter (probably only person on the planet)..I did find in my google contacts online, that as well as "My Contacts", there was a group made called "Other contacts", which had copy of all my contacts, so I deleted the group..everything was ok for a while then I got message again asking if i want to link some contacts..weird.
even worse: no info whatsoever is given with regards to what it means if you tap the name and it becomes green? Do you eed to tap all of them?
pull down the notification bar and open the linked contacts (if its still asking you) and it'll tell you who it thinks can be linked...you can choose to accept or discard the suggestion. simple
and don't worry you can always unlink contacts later should you wish to.
Get it again
Hello,
I received this question also and I was selecting all my links one by one.
I thought what if I do 'dismiss all', then maybe I can 'select all' after that..
But all my suggestions where gone..
How can I get all the suggestions again?.. I have many contacts..
Thanks in advance from The Netherlands.
Best regards,
Johan Groeneveld
The WP7 email client has mostly worked fine, but it seems to lack a lot of features. Here are a few issues I've come across so far:
Sent Mail folder (for IMAP) hardcoded as "Sent Items" - not configurable (unlike iPhone and any modern email client), and different from desktop Outlook (which defaults to "Sent"); incompatible with most Linux email servers -- same problem as WM6.x had
Cannot edit quoted text when forwarding emails
Cannot select text (unlike other WP7 Office apps)
Cannot set port numbers for IMAP/POP/SMTP - auto-config works fine for most configurations, but sometimes not
Email status changes (e.g. delete, keep-as-new, etc.) not updated until sync interval or manual sync - iPhone and others instantly sync status changes

On this first point, turns out all the other email folder names are also hardcoded. When you delete emails, they have to go to "Deleted Items"-- otherwise they just disappear. (Outlook on the desktop defaults to "Trash" and is, unlike WP7, configurable)

No, you cannot attach files to emails, as WP7 does not expose its file system to apps (outside of isolated storage).
The only things you can attach are photos from the phone's photo library. It's like what the iPhone 1.x email client was like in 2007 (minus all the features listed above).

Ok, thanks for clarifying.
You can attach documents to emails. You have to goto the Office hub, press and hold the document, hit send, then choose the email address you want to send from. Although it should be an option when you hit attach to attach a document or a picture.

Yes, I was asking about Multiple attachements.
It's so idiotic you cannot create multiple attachement emails.
Of course you cannot send video neither music.

You can send from within the Office app, but the email client UI itself is unable to attach anything but images. The iPhone has a similar limitation, but loads of apps can send email, and copy-and-paste alleviates at least a few of the challenges.
For instance, if I draft an email, then finish a document and want to attach it, in WP7 I'm SOL, as you have to first go to Office, select the finalized document, and then email, which creates a blank email, and you can't copy-and-paste the text from the message drafted earlier.
One solution might be to have a system whereby apps can register to have their file stores open to the email app to use for attachments.
Microsoft will kill all of us with wp7.
I do not know why????
Many disadvantages .

The purpose for these types of apps isn't really to send yourself a bookmark for a main website, but more to send a complicated link to save you typing in a 180 character or so URL into your HD7, or having to open up your email and copy / paste a link to yourself (spamming your own email in the process).
For example; I'm on my PC browsing deviant art and I see a cool image that would make a great lockscreen wallpaper for my HD7. I right click somewhere on the page, select "Send to Windows Phone". I pick up my phone, open the "Send to WP7" app, and there's my link to that page. I can now use that image as my wallpaper.
Similarly, if you're reading an article on some website and you've got to get to work but want to finish reading that article on the bus, just send it to yourself with this app and easily pick up the same page on the bus!
It's an incredibly handy and ingenious app in my opinion... with lots of ingenious uses if you can think them up.
I sent a question to the dev that I haven't seen an update for - how to remove those darned links when you're done with them. Until then, the app is useless for me, but it does have potential...

There is now an alternative paid-for app called Browser to WP7 that works on the same idea except it allows links and text to be deleted. It also categorises them in the app and allows you to share them by sms, email, search with bing etc.
I'm waiting to see if Send to WP7 gets any future updates because it's currently free and works pretty well for me.

Hey guys - never noticed this thread until today. I am the author of Send to WP7.
Send to WP7 has the ability to delete links (as of the update several days ago - I was stuck in limbo for several weeks. )
Multi-delete is coming in an application update next week.
Send to WP7 has a live tile # indicating how many links you need to download to the phone. You can already send a link via SMS or Email, just tap and hold, select 'Show All', and then click the mail icon. I'll add more options to the 'right-click' menu soon. I didn't think there was much of a reason for things like 'Search with Google' or 'Search With Bing' (wouldn't you have just done these things on your PC anyway?), but I may add things like that in the future.
Send to WP7 will remain free.
Apologies to the OP for not understanding how to setup the software, I still assert that it is not very complicated if you just read the instructions carefully. I do think I need some updates/screenshots to the setup page, though. On that note, I was never able to figure out how to configure 'Browser to WP7' to use anything but Chrome...
I thought it was simple to use and easy to setup but then again I've been using Chrome to Phone for ages with my Desire now.

Hi cxkx -
Note that Send to WP7 Desktop is an alpha release, I have not built any functionality into the phone app to support it yet. In it's current state, it is best for transferring files. Sending an SMS or Email does "work", but you'll then have to tap & hold the item and select Send via mail. The real name for these items should be something like "prepare SMS/mail."
Again just note that this is all in flux, but I wanted to get it out there so those who really wanted the functionality could have it immediately.

Yes, you enter a message (and optionally a destination contact number, but this won't work until I add support into the phone app itself) and click send. The message is sent to your phone using exactly the same means as the note. If you have enabled push notifications, you'll get a toast. Tap and hold the entry on the phone, and select 'Send info via SMS'. It is not the most elegant procedure, I know...
I ve tried sending the clipboard contents but it didnt work, anything I copy in iexplorer though can be send, maybe a plain html page where you can write and then send using the accelerator will do the trick. Keep on the good work!

I'm not sure why it says the program is executing from C:\Windows\system32, maybe that is related. Usually ClickOnce will set that to your profile (e.g. C:\Users\CK)
It appears that you're getting jumplist callbacks for sending notes, but nothing else - they all use exactly the same mechanism so I'm not sure what'd cause that. It appears you are using a localized version of Windows, what language/locale are you using?

Guys I'm sorry if this has been answered elsewhere but I couldn't find it on a search of the forums.
When I go into the "ME" profile in the People app and click on my picture I get my phone number, Gmail, Google+ and Google Talk icons show up but no Twitter. If I swipe to the right again I only see updates from my Google+ account but not Twitter. Twitter is synched to my phone and I have looked in the "edit settings" on my profile but there seems to be no option to add it.
Any clues ?
Thanks
Anyone ? Surely some whizz out there must know the obvious answer to this (clearly not so obvious to me).
Thanks in advance.
Unlike HTC Sync the stuff pulled is just from google+..... Same as the FB app doesn't sync to contacts.
Danny
Danny I'm a little confused. I see the Twitter option in others profiles? Was the Twitter & Google + feed in the people app not touted during the Nexus launch ? I'm pretty sure it was.

Go to the People app, pull up the menu, and select the "Contacts to display" option. Click the Twitter option (it'll have the twitter icon and your twitter name) and it will list all of your twitter contacts. Find and open the contact you want to make a connection with, pull up the menu, and select "Edit". Then click Menu, "Join". Find the contact to join that twitter handle to, and you're done. Then just set your "Contacts to display" option back to whatever you had it at before.
Yeah, a little convoluted, but you only have to do it once.
BTW, there is a new twitter app that integrates nicely with your contacts now
This seems to be done for me in other contacts... but in the "ME" contact it doesn't. I just have the "discard" option and displays my google+ feed in the place of where the twitter is displayed in other contacts..... now I'm confused
Danny same goes for me. The explanation given above does not solve my issue i'm afraid though I am grateful for the reply. If I select twitter from the "contacts to display" it does not show my twitter name, just those I follow. On the ME tab it shows all my other personal details for other services so it should also show the twitter feed as well?

Yeah, you're right; I didn't realize you meant you wanted your OWN contact to have the Twitter updates. Apparently the Twitter app doesn't synchronize your own account as a contact, and there's no way in ICS to specifically add that connection, as far as I'm aware. Maybe they'll add that in a future update?
Ahhh ok,thanks Copkay. I thought I was going mad and missing something.

Sorry for digging out old thread, but I have similar issue and I thought there is no point in making a new one.
In people when viewing contact that has twitter integration I can see in "Connections" (or something similar, I have different language set to default) "Twitter" and "View Profile" (again, or similar) but I can't do much with those two. Taping twitter does nothing and taping "View profile" results in message "Could not download tweets. Try again latter". Is it normal? Is it supposed to "work" like that? I use stock Tweeter app on stock 4.0.1
Any feedback appreciated
Anyone else have this same issue? I've flashed the official 8.1 image 5 times today, and as of yet, it only syncs about half of my contacts. And it seems it's totally random. Also, my favorites in the Phone app are now blank, there are none shown.
Something is broken in the new 8.1 release that the latest 8.1 DevPreview had working. Looks like I'm going back to the 8.1 DevPreview for now. I can't afford to be without my contacts for work.
UPDATE: Oh, great. Now it's happening on 8.1 DP2 as well. ****. That's not good. I can look in gmail on the PC, and all my contacts are still there, so that's good at least. But I need them on the phone.
OK, so a temporary fix is lengthy, but is as follows:
1: Go to contacts.google.com and EXPORT ALL of your contacts to a CSV file. Save it somewhere, make copies, whatever.
2: Open that file in Google Docs Sheets
3: Remove ALL links to google plus and websites (just those two, the ones with a chain link icon)
4: Remove ALL "relationship" entries
5: Save to your PC with a NEW NAME
6: Go back to contacts.google.com, and DELETE ALL CONTACTS
7: Hit "Sync now" on your phone (there should be no contacts there)
8: IMPORT the NEW CSV (from Sheets) into the contacts on contacts.google.com (old version of contacts online imports, new version doesn't. It'll tell you that)
9: Go back to your phone and hit "Sync now" again
10: All your contacts should start filling in again. Some won't have their pictures because they pulled from G+.
Yeah, like I said, it's LONG, but it works. This is only temporary, until Google gets their stuff together.
As long as you keep that original CSV file, you can reimport all your original contacts when the time comes, G+ links, relationship entries, and everything.

+1 for me to, but on nexus 6P. a return to 8.0, 8.1 dp1, dp2, did not help
Same here. It's happening on Nexus 5X running on final Android 8.1 build too. Tried factory resetting the phone and syncing again but no help.
So it's Googles server side sync client. Great. As of this morning, it's still broken (looking in the Account Sync section in Settings). Hitting "Sync now" syncs everything other than contacts, which is still bugged out.
I'll stop saying SYNC now.
I reached out the Google support yesterday since a lot of my automation and DND depends on having Contacts synced correctly. They were clueless that something is broken on their side. However, the support person (from Pixel support) tried her best to help resolve the issue by going way beyond her domain.
In short, this is something we just have to wait and hope it gets resolved soon. Avoid making too many changes to your contacts and create lot more merge conflicts between your phone and Google servers.
+1
This is also happening to me after a clean install of 8.1 factory image on my Pixel 2.
Had issues with my 8.1 install on my Pixel 2 XL, reverted back to 8.0 and also experiencing contact sync issues. Sync works fine to my work iPhone, but not to my Android. Go figure.
Thanks all for confirmation it's not just us Pixel 1 (non-XL) users. A couple of us have "lost" our wives. https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=74756880&postcount=24
@xdabbeb brought up a good point, I had noticed too but I forgot about. In Settings/Accounts (or whatever it's called now)/Google you can see an exclamation point beside the syncing Contacts. So the phone does know it's having a problem syncing.

I saved all contacts from contacts.google.com as vcf file. Deleted all the contacts on that page. Then, via Google Contacts app on the phone, imported as a vcf file and all contacts have appeared. (BTW, the Google Contacts app only gave the option to import from vcf file or from SIM card).
Thanks so much for your input and ideas.

Delete the link for that fix.
The prior missing contacts have disappeared after the vcf file import. However, the one contact I deleted from contacts.google.com page and then added via Google Contacts app on the phone did not disappear from the app.
Also, the sync exclamation thingy has disappeared for me; now it appears to sync normally. Of course, excluding the issue with missing contacts.

Done, thanks! I think the exclamation is hit and miss. Keep that VCF!
The VCF solution did not work for me. Clearing the two website columns of their contents in the CSV and re-importing that did work for me though.
Thanks for the tips!

Thank you. Definitely have both csv and vcf files for contacts saved.

Stock Google Contacts app. Did the import in the web version however. So my process was as follows:
1. Export My Contacts as CSV
2. Clear all contacts currently in profile and verify the empty contact list appears on the phone.
3. Clear the 2 website related columns of their data (except the header)
4. Re-import modified CSV in the web interface
5. Re-synced successfully.
