Hey Guys,
I really want the 3D App Drawer on my HTC Desire WITHOUT rooting it. Can someone please help me?
Thanks.
HTC Desire (Not rooted)
2.1-update1
Search for Launcher Pro in marketplace. I haven't tried using this with sense although I'm sure it will work.

It does the job but Sense gets taken away. I only want the App Drawer to change.
But thanks anyways.
Hello,
Don't think that's possible even with root as the widgets and app drawer are all built into sense.
I maybe wrong.
yeah, the drawer is a part of the home screen.
So if you replace the HTC launcher (to get another drawer) you don't use the HTC homescreen, and can't use HTC widgets.
Until somebody makes a 'mod' of Rosie that has another launcher, this ain't so easy
So after looking through the home screens I see there are multiple choices each with its own positives and negatives, I was wondering what the XDA users prefer?
As far as I can see there is:
*HTC Sense
*ADW Launcher
*GO Launcher
*Launcher Pro
*HeLauncher
*Zeam
*A few different gingerbread launchers
Those are the more heard of ones. So back to the original question, what is the "best" launcher?
definition of "best" is open to interpretation
Sense or Zeam
Sense for strong devices
Zeam for the weaker ones

Yeah, me too. You know it makes sense.
I'll try launcher pro, if I dislike it back to sense

My vote goes to Launcher pro. The customizability of the launcher is very nice.
Sense on the other hand has been tweaked to the end. The widgets are great. Only thing is, I don't like the big launcher taking up so much space, with only 3 functions. Where the customize button is the least usefull of the three lol. Furthermore, sense can be quite slow sometimes.
You might try CircleLauncher Light too (or the paid version).
It's a Widget but it's not bad.
Example here.
Launcher Pro Plus. Uses less power than Sense UI.

Can you use launcher pro plus on Cyanogen Mod or is there a way to stop sense starting up on leeroids rom?
You can use Launcher Pro on any ROM and on Sense Roms you can't remoove sense. If you don't want sense then Cyanogen or MIUI is the way for you.
Personally, I like HTC widgets, so I'm going with Sense.

I agree that is one thing I like about HTC Sense is their widgets.

What Cyanogen version should I use if I chose to?
Oh ok never really looked at MIUI
I do like leeroids though..
If your happy with how sense looks it works fine.
If you like to completly control look of phone launcherpro or adw ex are awsome.
I'm firmly settled now on Launcherpro Plus using Non-Sense version of Revolution rom to get rid of all the htc sense stuff and love it.
Zeam
My vote goes for Zeam...
I used Launcher Pro (which I bought) for a long time, but I found it very heavy after trying Zeam launcher;
I find Zeam Launcher is quite the same as Launcher Pro, but lighter...
(My Desire HD is running under CyanogenMod 6.1.3 right now)

I've tried ADW and LP when I had a Hero but always come back to Sense because I like the HTC Widgets, specifically the flip clock and all the settings widgets.
If it wasn't for that, I'd probably go with LP as it seems the most customizable.
Don't forget you can still modify the look of Sense if you don't mind editing the framework-res.apk or using some of the custom mods and themes that people on XDA have created.
I'm using ADW EX, loving the customisation it offers, also a fan of sense cause of the widgets, but after paying for a couple good ones like Beautiful Weather for clock and weather like sense do it, and Widget Locker for full customizabel lock screen, im never going back to sense again as i now have all the same features sense provided that i wanted to keep
Launcher Pro Plus because it is lightweight
I'm trying out a new launcher (ZEAM) and it looks like HTC Sense still stays open in the background.. how do I get rid of it completely? I don't want 2 launchers running..
Also - anyway to use the HTC Widgets on Zeam? I love the Calendar widget and the weather/clock one

Here is calkulins flashable zip that will completely remove HTC sense from your phone. This will also remove all sense widgets I believe. Also, I have never used Zeam launcher, but I would speculate that you can't use HTC sense widgets on it (at least you cant with launcher pro or adw launcher). They only work with sense. There are quite a few other widgets out there though that look very similar to HTC's widgets.

Also here is a link to calk's page that all sorts of mods/tweaks/goodies and such. Useful bookmark. They work on pretty much any sense rom.

Is there a way to disable the Sense UI on wildfire s?
I've found a lot instructions to turn it of, but they seem not to work on gingerbread. So did anyone found a way to restore or install the old fashioned android ui?
Thanks & Cheers
So, you need to fully off it? Or only launcher. You can install other launcher(There are many good launchers in market, including standard 2.3), and, if you want, delete with root uninstaller system apps that you don't want to see on ur phone.
There are no roms without sense right now, waiting for a normal port of CyanogenMod7.
yes, would be nice to fully off it, but just to have a look if i like the standard one. (so i dont want to erase the whole thing)
cyanogen mod would be rly nice, but they still have problems with porting the bluetooth and stuff. but yes, im looking forward to flash it, as soon as possible.
what launcher includes the standard 2.3, can u tell me?

There are one launcher(Gingerbread launcher) - standard gingerbread launcher without settings, i think, pretty sluggish... I would recommend a "LauncherPro" - Very good launcher with much of settings, too smooth.. And. if you wish, will look like standard 2.3 launcher, but too better. But other launchers won't disable Sense at all ))
There is no possible to remove Sense UI. You can put alternative launcher, but this is not what you want. You will need some alt. ROM, but there is not much released yet, that will give you what you want.
well thanks guys.
so i'm gonna wait for an clean wfs rom.
You can also use a launcher, choose default actions to use only the Launcher when asked (I recommand LauncherPro or GoLauncher).
Then you go to applications management and erase HTC Sense data so it will occupy 0Mb on your internal memory.
Out of curiosity why would anyone want to remove the Sense UI, it's one of the best Stock Launchers I've come across, Sony Ericssons Launchers are rubish compared to Sense, the Stock Gingerbread Launcher is rubish compared to Sense, the only other Stock Launcher that isn't that bad that I've seen is the LG Optimus Chat (C550) froyo Launcher?
But for other Launchers adw Launcher is quite a good Launcher and very coustomizable.
Roland
I rooted my phone, downloaded and installed Stock Gingerbread Launcher and then used root file explorer and went into system/apps, then deleted Rosie and restarted my phone then went back and located the HTCLockscreen and deleted that and I now have a 2.3 Stock Looking Gingerbread Home Screen With Widgets, and A Stock Gingerbread Lockscreen, has nice Nexus S Looking Clock on the lockscreen too!!!!
In HTC supertool v3 there is a de-sense option. Haven't tried it though..

I've got a rooted and deodexed Inc2 running Virtuous Unitity 2.39. Ihave the HTC Sense 3.0 it comes with as well as GO Launcher...and have Home Switcher App to change from one to the other.
It seems to me that having the 5 button selection bar on the bottom (that can be swiped and added to unlimited times) is so much more efficient use of space and provides better choice that it removes any rationale to have anything like HTC Sense with it's standard three choices (and only two which are really used much).
What am I missing? Why can't others have the great lower selection choices of GO Launcher (is it correct calling this the Rosie bar?)? What does the HTC Sense give me that is more functional and useable?
The VU2.3.9 runs fine and was a clean and easy install.
If you change the launcher from Sense to something else, don't you lose the other Sense add-ons like the Weather Widget, Lock Screen and Themes?
You do lose the sense Widgets but like go and launcher pro they have built in Widgets. The lockscreen is an additional apk. Themes will stick as far as status bar goes. Also launcher pro, adw, and go launcher have downloadable themes.

No with launcher pro plus

The only reason I use Sense 3.0 is for the gadgets and the purdy interface, I would have switch to something else like the gingervanilla, other AOSP or RMK debloated stock rom if I were to use Go launcher.
You do lose some Sense widgets, but the lockout screen stays tied to Sense. For example, I have the weather on the lockout screen, but even when I switch to GO, the lockout screen after has the fancy weather animation.
I get a "sense" that there is not really a reason to deal with the HTC Sense launcher other than looks, but if I am wrong, let me know where.
I do know that I love having the 5 button rosie which I can spin to more 5 button rosies at the bottom. Much better use of screen real estate.
Sense is nice and its all preference
Can you know to me what's this your theme ?
i like the battery...Im using ROM BAMF...so Can I use this theme?

No launcher pro plus has the "sense" widgets built into the launcher. They are look alike

I didn't like the sense-like Widgets. They didn't have the same feel as the real thing. But I do still prefer LP to anything else including Sense (most of the time)

I think that is a loaded question. My thinking is Sense is for people that like Sense and AOSP roms are for people that don't care for it. I'm just trying to make things simple.
IMO, sense feels more professional, while anything else is for enthusiasts. And the Widgets in lpp are cool and all, but really they are a joke compared to the sense Widgets. And the intergration is nice too, something aosp hasn't done yet.

I actually don't care for the Sense widgets or the Rosie launcher at all. I use the Pure Messenger widget from the Market, and while it's not as pretty as a Sense widget, it combines e-mail, text/sms messages, phone calls, facebook and twitter into a single messaging widget as opposed to Sense's separate widgets for each.
As for the launcher, I just can't justify dedicating the whole bottom of the screen to 2 buttons - the app drawer and the phone button. The customize button is stupid, once you have the phone set up the way you like, that button is largely useless.
Of course, these are just my opinions, but to me, Sense is far from superior/more professional than anything else.
The Clock with weather is the main reason most stick to Sense, it has a cleaned look/feel that add to the homescreen. I personally can't do AOSP I miss the weather clock from sense until I switch back, I love unlocking my phone to a new animation

Fancy widget pro is better than the sense clock, you can get the senseclock, plus tons of different themed clocks, that is what i use. I like the sense photo album widget, which is pretty much the only widget that doesn't have a replacement app. I can't say i enjoy sense when very much and i usually run an AOSP rom (omfgb currently) but have a couple nice sense rom backups on my phone for when I'm itching to use sense.
