My GF has a G2. A few days ago she put it in her cup holder in her car. There was a few mm of water from a degraded fast food cup in the cup holder. She told me that the water might have reached the earphone.
We let the phone dry out for 48hrs and put the battery back in. Initially it worked for about 6hrs with no problems but when she came home from work the phone would only boot into the bootloader. Once in the bootloader I can not select any options nor turn the phone off. Taking the battery out is the only option, but when it's put back in we go back to the bootloader.
I have attached a picture of the bootloader screen. You can see there is some striation on the bottom of the screen. This striation is at the opposite end from where the phone touched the water.
1. is the striation normal? (think I know the ans to that one but...)
2. Can I try anything to get the phone up and running?
3. Would it be worth a warranty replacement call? The White dot behind the battery is still white, but I think the screen could be a give away to water damage.
Looks like water trapped under the screen. Water could have run from one end of the phone to the other, especially if you held it back upright while water was still inside. Or it could have re-condensed in a different spot from where it was submerged.
If water is still trapped under the screen, its obviously not completely dry. I would try to dry it more, you can try the trick of placing the phone in a bag of uncooked rice, or chemical dessicant packs (like the kind some items come packed with that say "do not eat") to help pull the water out of the phone. 2 days does not seems like enough time, if you just tried just air drying it without one of these tricks. Power off until you are more sure the phone is dry, or you are just doing more damage.
Rice is your best bet right now. It can work wonders.

Rice trick is your best bet. Might be too late now. Should have never turned it back on, and if it was on at the time, should have shut it off immediately till you consulted xda. At least you will know for next time! Good luck! Fyi you didn't need to blur that stuff out.

my phone fell in the pool and after a drying time I called him. All normal functioning, connection, sound apps, no problem. Until I went to use the camera. nothing works, the screen goes black and nothing happens. I changed the original ROM for the MANHATTAN and nothing working tb. Neither the camera nor the flash LED. I wonder what might have happened??
How long did u let it dry for. How quick did u remove the battery? If it has been less than 24 hours, a soak down in ysopropil alcohol may fix it as it seems u have excess moisture in your phone. Do not use rice to dry it. All that will do is allow small dust particles to get under the screen. After u soak in alcohol let it air dry for at least 24-48 hours. It would be best if u took ur phone completely apart to allow for proper drying.
If u are not comfortable with this or it has been to long, hopefully u have insurance

Once the phone fell into the water, I stripped it all. As I was a little drunk, ended up losing the phone battery, I had to order another battery at ebay. While the battery is not reached, I left the cell in a pot with rice, for almost 15 days. It can be hardware problem? I did not want to take in the assistance it can take much. Any other alternative?
Honestly..... no. Either use insurance or try to by one on eBay or your local Craigslist

Hi,
I know there is a lot of information on the Internet about Water Damage, but i can't seem to find out what's going with my device.
Here's what happened: i went for a run with my phone stuck to my arm by a rubber band. When i got home i found that the sweat of my arm had damaged the phone: it didn't want to turn on and the water damage stickers are red. I dried the sweat of the back of the phone with a towel (it wasn't much) and i was able to turn it up for an hour or two and it seemed fined, only the battery indicator was crazy (exclamation mark). I wasn't able to charge my battery as well. The indicator led is crazy as well (when i try to charge my battery it blinks orange, green and so on).
The phone itself seems fine is the battery that cannot charge and seems damaged causing the phone to turn off frequently. What do you think? Should a buy a new battery or a new phone?

1: don't run with the phone. Two: try with another battery, the battery seems broken.

If phone is still damp put it in a bowl of dry rice, it will remove any excess moisture.

That phone is not designed to be used that way, you should use an external casing that's not connected to your skin and as such less likely to be sweat damaged. (i.e.: belt clip of sort).
The suggestion to place into a jar of rice for a day or two is typically a good way to draw out any moisture, the main thing you DO NOT want to do is attempt to power it on or charge while humidity still exists inside the device.
I bought a new battery and the phone works just fine, only the old battery was damaged. Thanks for the help.
This is more of a question about sweat
I didn't want to make another thread about sweat damage, so i figured I might as well ask here. I have a problem where it seem that my touch screen collects moisture inside my pants pocket. One time at the mall i stood watching a football game for like an hour, when i took out my phone the screen was completely soaked like i gave it a good spray with a spray bottle. I think the problem is that the phone is warm so it causes me to sweat more? Funny thing is I feel warm but it doesn't seem like i was sweating, yet screen still collect alot of moisture.
The phone is working fine, no sign of any water related damage and that incident been about 2 weeks ago. My real question is, anyone got any recommendation as to how to carry my phone to prevent any further water exposure?
So my kid reached in my pocket and dropped my phone in the toilet. i pulled it out fast, it didn't completely submerge, it's in a bowl of rice atm, how long should I wait to turn it on to see if my $600 just got flushed down the crapper.
To be safe I'd say a day or two. I've never been that patient though. Get some 90% + alcohol dip the phone in it then put it in rice wait a few hours that's always worked for me

Last time I revived a fully submerged phone it was like three days. I also did the rice and phone bake in the oven. Wouldn't recommend that unless you figure the phone is toast to start with lol but here it is. Glass bowl, submerge phone in rice, bake on lowest setting of oven taking out often to let cool a little, bake time about an hour. Remove battery, sim, and SD card before baking. When done baking pour everything into zip lock bag for two days. You probably think I'm crazy but this worked on my daughters phone after she dove into a pool with it then tried to turn it on while it was still dripping water. This was on a desire z so not sure how our screen will react to that much heat.

I would opt for this method over baking, every oven is different and you run a risk of melting the soldier and causing irreversible damage if it gets too hot. The most important thing about electronic devices getting wet is removing the electrical current ASAP (if possible pull the battery!!!). Other than corrosion, the only problem with water any electronic device has is electrical shorts burning up the circuitry. Once electricity is removed from the equation, alcohol isn't anymore harmful than water, and in fact will evaporate (including the water) much quicker, which in turn reduces the chance of corrosion. That being said, although i am impatient as well i would still give a good day, 24 hours, in a nice rice bath. Just make sure there is no visible liquid before attempting to power on the device, personally i would pull the back cover off and unscrew the back side of the case exposing the main board just to get a better look but not everyone is going to be comfortable with that.
What i did that worked:
Get a ziplock back filled it with rice. Put your phone without Battery, sim, sd card, backplate in the bag with rice. Set the bag with contents on the top of your refrigerator where it is slightly warm, let it sit for 48 hours. Take it out after 48 hrs (it should have all the moisture out of the phone at this point) put the battery, sim, sd, etc back in and fire it up. Cross your fingers at this point
Best bet jar/ bowl of rice,, pull sim sd card put BOTH batt and phone into rice!!! batt has a chip in it, wait for at LEAST 3 days every day shift phone in the rice<<< moves dryer rice closer to phone, after 3 days pull phone out of the rice, THEN grab a can o air, spray air into phone, To see if any water still in phone,, if so 2 more days if not cross fingers put it togather and see if it works,, DO not put in OVEN plastic warps!
Well I'm at work now, it's been over 50 hrs I stuck it in rice, so it'll be like Christmas in October for me when I get home, or not.....

I managed go spill tea on mine, not sure if it leaked through the earphone or home button. Within 2 hours I had driving mode turn on/off randomly and the next day it did the same with usb and now it turns off randomly. To my knkwledge, the water damage indicators havent been tripped, should I take a gamble and take it back to rogers?

Speaker F***ed, headphone jack not working
so the main interface works great but, i'd rather throw it in the garbage now that it always says the headphones are plugged in, and the speaker is all static crackles an ****ty. so does anyone know where I can find and unroot guide for the Rogers GS3?

I cant be certain it fits, but looking at the connectors in the picture it appears to be compatible, and for 9 bucks i would try it personally before i did anything drastic. Not sure how much the shipping would run to Canada but its got to be less than an insurance deductible.

I keep a bag of about 150 or so Dessicant dryer bags in one of those vacuum seal jars, just in case. They are cheap and easy and work better then rice. I would say getting a bag of 200 of them cost me about $20.00 Keeping them in the vac sealed jar keeps them from sucking the moisture out of the air.

So I dropped my phone in my bath
It was in the bath like literally 1 second or such and I grabbed it out real quick. The screen was on all the time until I pulled the battery
I immediately pulled the battery out and cleaned the outisde with a towel.
After an hour or so I inserted the battery and it came up with the white screen itself(i didn't have to push the power button myself)
Then i waited and it got stuck on the second bootscreen(past the white HTC logo)
Then i pulled the battery out and back in, now the only thing it does is give me a red led.
Have I killed it by trying to power it on? I should've had put the phone in a bowl of rice.

Let the device dry with the lid and battery taken off, preferably near a heater or something.
Or use a dryer with lowest heat setting.
After you have dried it, put it in the freezer for 30 minutes. That should freeze the remaining water particles. Try to boot afterwards.
Thanks, I already dried it with my hairdryer. The phone is now in a bowl of rice.
After I dried it with the hairdryer I 'accidentally' put the battery back in and the screen turned on.(first I had no screen, only red led).
But I immediately pulled the battery out again. Does the fact that the screen still turns on indicate that it is probably possible to make it work again? So you say put it near a heater and then 30 minutes in the freezer? With that you mean without battery, sd card and sim card?
I'm gonna try that after I take it out of the rice.

This reminded me of my retarded friend who tried to dry his phone using a microwave. It didn't work... at all.. and neither does the microwave since.

Not sure if you guys are kidding about putting electronics in a microwave...
The only proper way is to disassemble the phone and let it dry. Then clean it with a contact spray maybe.
I dropped my DESIRE 3-4 weeks ago in the f*cking toilet.
What i did was:
pulling out the batt
cleaning the phone with antibacterial wipes
cleaning the phone with contact spray
leave it for 2 days(just in case) to dry
..and now my phone works fine.
PS: you have NO idea how much water was inside the phone, despite it was with TPU cover, and dropped in the water for not more than a 1-2 sec.
NEVER EVER rely on drying it just like that

I somehow don't think its the heat the key is in the name MICROWAVE

Be VERY careful with heat -- that's what kills things worse than water IMHO
I also have a "Drowned Desire" (cdma kind) my freind gave it to me she dropped it in sink.
Instead of rice I used the dessicant packs you get @ the ammo store. Set the phone battery out open side down on top of the dessicant and another pack on top then set the shoe-box on top of the hot water heater (it's warm-ish, and dry, area)
Left it for 5 days and it worked
Still tryin to get the rootkit out of it

I shook out all the water I could and was dumb and tried to charge it, it got to the battery charging screen so that's good, however there were crackling noises. I left the phone upright all night and am using my space heater to try to dry it more.
Should I buy isopropyl alcohol and soak the phone in it? There's no way I'm going to be able to disassemble the phone because it's practically impossible so I was wondering if dipping the whole thing would be a good idea or no.

I second that, put it in a bag of rice. Somewhere warm and dry. The rice wil draw the moisture out of the phone.
While IPA is fast evaporating and electronic friendly it still needs to be exposed to the air to evaporate properly without leaving a residue

speaking from experience, the m9 isnt as bad as whats been made out. i bought the ifixit iopener kit and the tools made it straight forward. just a delicate and time consuming effort with the sticky tape they used.
I dropped the bottom edge of mine in a mug of tea 2-3 months ago (2" submerged for a second or 2). No immediate problems but the last few weeks I've had backlight issues. the backlight cable to the screen had liquid remaining in it causing backlight issues. you could probably dry it out by getting to step8: https://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/HTC+One+M9+Teardown/39166. M9 teardown gets trickier once you need to remove the battery. fwiw, the backlight cable seems to be the cable with '...00031' on it, at the top right of this picture: https://d3nevzfk7ii3be.cloudfront.net/igi/Y5J4Lk1jLQvsSYmQ.huge. liquid was stuck between the back side of that cable, and the other flexible cable it was soldered to which should not need any further dismantling of the phone.
atleast getting this far, you'd be able to confirm exactly how much liquid has entered the phone and if you need to dry out any other connections to avoid future problems.
I left mine in rice for a little over 2 days and it worked fine after. Just left a little spot you can barely see when the screen is fully black
