clear camera's cache and data from settings, reboot and you'll be fine

I have red lense defy and have put nandroid backup + fixed sbf of nordic 2.2 froyo.
Even I experienced the same thing, but my problem got fixed somehow without me doing anything significant.
All I did was toggle the baseband from the Defy Baseband switcher between India and United Kingdom RT 3.4.2-117 (because I think that was the ROM's original baseband).
However, it may also be that my camera being a red lense my not have any problem unlike yours.
Oh, and I also forgot to mention that I had also set Android bootmenu to normal boot as default because it was nagging me at every boot.
I haven't been able to get back into Android boot menu after that, but my camera works now.

thanks the basebandswitcher did the trick

The same problem (along with others) was generated by 2nd init. Uninstalling it (not the program that installs it) solved the problem.
Just my 2 cents...

OT: my camera take black pictures with flash (without flash OK). I clear camera's cache and data from settings, reboot and all fine!
(Defy with green lens, stock ROM v.2.2.2, rooted)

@ants40
How did you clear camera's cache and data? I am also suffering from the same issue.

Issue resolved after clearing cache and data for camera from the Settings -> Applications -> Manage applications
Thanks ants for providing the solution...

Thanks! Uninstalling 2init worked for me. But clearing the cache did not.

This just happened to me out of the blue. It's been working fine until now.
I tried clearing the cache and also the baseband switch, but still a black screen with the camera.
You mention uninstalling 2nd init - if I do that, won't it stop CM7 from booting?
*edit
never mind! turns out the "live dmesg" "boot animation" had broken it.

It is mentioned in other posts that this problem is caused by booting into 2ndinit.
the bootmenu contained in Defy2ndinit has a bug (afaik still not corrected even in newer versions) that cause mis-initialization of video4linux. This leads to black screen in camera viewfinder, but also all video playback (media playback will also lead to a black screen).
The workaround is to boot your defy without lauching bootmenu, i.e. use the default boot feature.

Video recording not working anymore

I've not been able to record video as of recently. I'm not exactly sure when it started, but I've tried out several froyo sense ROMs but recording didn't work on any of them.
When I open the camera app I am able to take photos but as soon as I choose video mode, the camera app becomes unresponsive and I'm only able to close (or hide) it by hitting the home button. The phone becomes very hot because the camera is still running in the background and I have to restart my phone.
I've updated to the latest radio (32.43.00.32U_5.09.00.20). Also tried downgrading the radio (to 32.42.00.32U_5.09.00.08) but that didn't help either.
When you're changing ROMs, are you doing a full wipe/factory reset and wiping the cache?

Yepp, always wipe everything.
Okay.
Download the Pinky Desire v0.4 ROM (if it is still up) I know this ROM works find on video and 720p (As I am using it at the moment) also do a full reset of the phone and make sure you have a partition set on the SD card.
If it doesn't work then, try un-rooting the phone and put stock Froyo 2.2 on the phone.
If it is still broken after that - I would think hardware problem with the phone. Return it under warranty if that is the case? (Obviously leave a un-rooted, stock ROM on the phone when you take it back)
Good luck!

[Q] Camera Broken Upon Update?

Anyone else have the camera load to a blank black screen with no buttons in any and all apps that utilize the camera? Camera, Barcode Scanner, Sniper Shot, and all other programs that use the camera fail to load since the update. Anyone have any idea as to why?

Did you try a restart, I have heard of camera problems like this before (i think first FroYo update) and all it needed was a simple reboot.
Reboot didn't work. I reflashed the rom and BAM, it worked again. Crisis averted.
I have the same problem.
I'm running the following:
Azreal 3.0
circular battery widget update
removed HTC lock screen
superior battery charging kernel
wifi hotspot patch
I'm currently trying things to figure out what will fix it.
Here are the current things I have tried that did NOT fix the problem:
Reboot
Wipe cache/davlik cache
fix UID mismatches
I then reflashed azreal 3.0
At this point the camera worked again but everything was wiped. I then reapplied the following patches:
Circular battery
remove HTC lock screen
wifi/hotspot patch
after this everything continued to work
I then applied:
superior battery charging kernel and it broke again
I think the problem is the superior battery charging kernel
i am having the same problem and have not been successful yet fixing it. switched from cm7 back to stock to update my prl and tryed to use the camera while stock when the black blank screen happened. flashed to evdo(sense) and same result. flashed back to cm7 and the 1st time i opened camera it opened the ffc. when i tried to switch and everytime i have tried to open it since i get "camera error cannot connect to camera" help plz!
If you have HW 0004 phone or HW003 with the new camera, you have to make sure your rom has a kernel with the NEW drivers. The kernel in my signature has the new drivers for ASOP roms (like cm 7).
just flashed Savaged-Zen-V002-CFS-HAVS-SBC-WiMAX - GB.zip
with the same result running cm7. seems like ive tried 20 different things with no success. everything i have flashed has been off my sd meaning i have had all of it running before at one time or another with no problem. i really cant think of what ive done new to have caused this
Same here
Happened to me right after I flashed calkulins_format_all.zip and then the MikFroyo4.4.zip yesterday. I thought it was a problem with mikfroyo so I flashed Azraelz 3.1 and still the same issue (i was using azrael 3.0 with no prob prior to mikfroyo).
I'll post if I find anything that works, please also give any suggestions i'm willing to try anything b4 i take her to sprint.
I also flashed calkulins evio rom. When I flash back to stock it will start running again sometimes. Not even right away though. It will be black for a while then if I just let the phone sleep for a bit and come back to it bam. Camera again. For a little while. Then back to the same thing an hour later without doing anything! This is very frustrating! Someone plz help!

UPDATE
I turned my phone off and switched SD cards to one that has an old backup (3.29, kernel#11), when I booted into recovery, I could hear clicking noices coming from the lens, at a super fast rate (say 2-3 clicks a second).
Not wanting to do any more damage I turned off the phone.
I did just take my phone to sprint to fix my kick stand, maybe they did something to mess with me (thats just my paranoid side speaking)...
But what gives? What would make the camera shutter do that while im in recovery (btw using latest amon ra recovery)?

MIUI problem

I have a problem with MIUI rom. Some days ago, my phone suddenly had FC, now, my phone run really slow and laggy... If I turn off the screen, my phone won't wake up, only four button in the bottom light up.
I wiped everything in CMW (system, data, and cache, also sd-card) but it doesn't work.
The fresh install had the same issues
I have this problem only with MIUI rom
any help
You probably need to provide more info on the issue. What version of MIUI are you running? Have you tried a fresh download of the ROM?

i have tried from 1.8.5 to 1.9.2.
it's very weird
this guy has the same problem with me, maybe he can explain better than me
http://forums.miui.us/showthread.php?3740-Display-won-t-wake-from-sleep
Hey guys, I flashed 1.819 yesterday and everything was going great. The ROM ran smoothly and I was having no issues at all. When I woke up the next morning my display would not turn back on. Every time I tried to turn on the display the soft lights would light up but the display remained unresponsive. The phone still seemed functional as I could hear e-mail and sms notifications coming through.
When I rebooted my phone it was abnormally slow.. mounting the sd card and syncing seemed like it was taking forever and the launcher was very jittery.. if I let my display time out it would not come back on and I'd be forced to pull the battery and try again.
I performed a full wipe through clockwork recovery (everything, including wiping system, data, and cache in 'mounts and usb') and reinstalled 1.819. The fresh install had the same issues.. if I let my display time out I wouldn't be able to turn it back on. I thought I was having some wonky hardware issue but after flashing my previous sense rom and everything is working perfectly.. so I'm pretty much scratching my head here. My phone was kickass for one day and became allergic to MIUI overnight!

Have you tried using a different kernal such as Tiamat or JD's Kernal?
May want to try that. I had good luck with Miui and Tiamat (ran it for a week)

i have tried both
Does this happen immediately after you flash? Or are you installing applications to get back to your preferred setup and then seeing the performance problems?
If it's the latter, I'd run the rom alone and see if it runs normally. Then install your applications individually until you encounter issues.

immediately after the flash. I don't install any other apps
since we are talking about MIUI issues. I am running the latest version of MIUI with the JDKernal.
The camera has color distortion lines when I take a picture. The picture comes out fine but when taking it the image shows the distortion. It did not do that before so I can only assume its something with the camera in the ROM.
Anyone else see this?

tenchu, your signature says you are not English or American. Are you running the MIUI.us ROM on your incredible 2 in English - and not another language?
.....just a thought.

help why doesn't my camera work!

So my first and most important problem right now it that my camera doesn't work the camera opens with a black screen and to close it you have to press home.
i just flashed Cool3D AceS v3 CM7/r2 Hboot Version
and if my radio is 32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27 would that be the problem
also i was wondering what the difference between the two versions by Cool3D AceS were. Apparently they weren't obvious to me so i would like to know please
I also had a bootloop problem on my previous rom(MIUI)which was the the reason i had to switch. It wasn't exactly a bootloop because it booted up completely but after 10 seconds it will restart. i've tried factory reset, formating sd, and other miui including uk roms and us vs. but it still happens. Have anyone else experience this? The only thing that solved it was the rom i have now.
can someone help me please thanks in advance
Are you sure your finger isn't in front of camera...?
go to mounts & storage, format everything apart from your sd-card and then reflash the ROM. Simples.

I`ve got the same problem several days ago. Tried to flash same ROM (Runnymede 3.04) without full wipe. Nothing changed. Moreover, when I press Home and kill camera application with ATK, the power consumption raises up to 200-300 mA and battery drains very fast. Did anyone managed this problem? It seems to be hardware problem, Isn't it?

Camera - Black Screen

I just purchased a second hand as new G3 online. This thing is in mint condition, no scratches or anything. Upon getting it kitkat was installed, i tested everything and the camera worked (front and rear), i took a couple of pics.
I promptly rooted and bumped twrp, made a backup of current install and then proceeded to install chuppachups rom, installed a couple other small tweaks (throttling, and conservative governor). Everything went well until later that day when i went to use the camera, and got just a black screen. Tried facebook messenger and could use front camera not rear. Reset phone, no help. Wiped cache, davlik, internal data - no help. Relfashed chuppachups after wiping everything - no help. At this point i realized i hadn't tested the camera at all after installing chuppachups so restored from the twrp kitkat backup and no camera still... ummmm. Ive tried the xcam apk and that doesn't work either.
Can anyone help resurrect the camera?
Anyone? im at a loss because this was going when i got it. and now i have restored from that backup after a wipe and its not going im confused as to what it could be?
Just performed a lg flashtool reset (cse) using kdz file. this also hasn't helped. . dont know what to do at this stage
Have decided it must be a hardware issue. Opened phone and checked camera connection to motherboard - ok. So have ordered a new camera, they are ridiculously cheap! ($8usd)
