I am not sure if this is an Android, HTC or carrier issue, but I always seem to 'lose' my data connection.
I normally have an HSDPA (H) connection, but it frequently drops to 3G (or H with no activity) and I am unable to connect to anything (Gmail, Twitter, Browser). It still thinks that there is an active data connection and it just keeps waiting for the action to be performed e.g. page to load. Things seem to start working again if I toggle airplane mode on/off.
I am using MIUI 1.6.24, radio 12.35d.60.140fP_26.06.03.24_M2, on Starhub in Singapore.
But I also had this issue with the stock ROM as well as on my old HTC Hero (Stock and VillainROM).
same issue here!
Same issue here.

Same issue here just that this one takes time to establish a connection and very frequent drop in signal leading to loss and gain in data http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=45574505#post45574505

Hi guys, after installing the latest radio on my Hero I get the feeling that my mobile internet connection (both HSDPA, 3G and 2G) seem to be dropping more often than before. I haven't monitored this prior to upgrades so I can't say for sure. But is anybody having the same experience?
Also is it possible to downgrade the radio? Do you just reinstall the old radio?
Thanks.
yes i have the same issue. my mobile internet and also the gps stops to work after a while of not using the phone. i have to restart the phone to get gps back to work.
mobile internet can also be reactivated by activating and deactivating the "only 2g networks" option.
this failure sucks because i just recognize that the mobile internet is down because i didn't get push mails for a while.
I have noticed that as well
Yep me too. I can be browsing (web, market, or rss) for a while, then lose connection for a bit, then it will suddenly work again.
Can we reflash the old radio?
No need. It could be the APN settings. I was having problems on T-Mobile with HSDPA dropping and read in another post to go to the T-Mobile support page for the G2 and select Connecting to the Internet --> Set up the phone for internet surfing --> and follow the instuctions to set up a new APN. Worked for me
I have the same problem.
I have installed the new Hero ROM two weeks ago, one week ago mobile internet disappeared from my phone. Before this it was very good.
I can't find the good solution for this issue. Please help.
Same radio ROM. But there were internet for a week with this ROM.
I don't understand.
(I have tried to reflash the ROM, but not solved.)
Same problem here.
Mobile network has been unstable since I bought it.
When I turn it off for a while and turn it on again, I can't see the icon on the top bar. What I have to do is going to Settings - Wireless controls - Mobile network settings - Network operators - Select automatically.
Sometimes the connection is lost while using. I have to do the same thing like above to make it work again.
I also contacted HTC's customer service, but I haven't got any response.
Too bad!
I find if I leave it then it comes back. Every so often it goes...then the firmware eventually notices and it reconnects. Annoying. Hopefully this will be fixed when T-Mobile release thier version of the ROM update later this week.
I have the same issue, but it seems like it only happens when I leave a wirelss-zone (and not every time I do that either).
When I leave home, it will maybe 1 of 3 times not connect to 3G before I manually connect again (Settings - Wireless controls - Mobile network settings - Network operators - Select automatically)
I've just used AnyCut to create a shortcut to this menu-option so it is less annoying, but a more permanent and official fix would be great.
same thing in my one thats why i hate htc from now one loots of bugs in hero headphones led net go back to htc hd how you can release phone if is not done properly

wow, how much better is that
Guys, if u have the dropping connection concern, as I did, please follow tmobile link in previous posts or a one for your mobile provide apn settings, I've just done it and have had no dropped connections for ages

Hi Guys
Allmost every rom I tried with 2.2 froyo, are not working for me.
The problem is: I don't have data connection at all.
I have full signal, but the phone do not tell if it's 3g og edge I'm on.
I have only found one rom which I have internet connection on, and that is FIRERIZN. On this rom I also get the information about its 3g or egde im on.
I wunder whats the difference between this rom and the others ?
What could be the problem, are there other danes which have the same problem as me ?
Hope someone can help me out..
Regards
JC
Hi,
I'm not an expert but from my experience, i always do full wipe and installed the latest radio before i flash the rom. So far the data connection was good. Although some froyo roms when installed have issues with hsdpa icon but it actually connected to hsdpa. Hope this info helps.
You could try - settings - wireless and networks - mobile networks - network operators - ( choose your network ) or there's - access point names ( not 100% sure what it is but my carrier Vodafone is on the list )
Just done a little research and it looks like the APN is the mms internet side of things
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Thanks for the answers guys.. but.
I allways do a wipe before flashing and i have the latest radio 5.09.00.08.
I have tried to select the the operatør this way, but i didn't go data connection.
Could it be the APN settings, there are causing the problem ?
Dumb question, but is data connection turned on in settings.?
It was turned off by default when I installed dj droid....

This isn't related to any particular ROM as I have tasted this with various sense and none sense ROMS... Has anyone since using the latest radio had issues with connecting to 3G or having very strange fluctuations, where the signal might go dead completely then back up to full?
I seem to be experiencing this with 32.43.00.32U_5.09.00.20
nope seems fine with mine. OD rom in Australia

The mentioned Radio is really poor in 3G Network. Especially change between 3G and EDGE. When I disconnect from Wifi it too often doesnt connect to the GSM or 3G again - the bars are there, you can phone but cant use data connection.
I hope there'll be a updated radio soon!
Im not happy with 5.09.00.20.
Hi,
I'm also experiencing a poor 3G connection with this radio.
I'm not happy with that.
Vodafone Spain, also same while itinerance in Portugal, USA.
Best
this radio has been absolutely fine for me.
having poor reception at singapore here too...
should i downgrade the radio?
Working best for me. From Malaysia.
Not working at all well for me. All was working great until I flashed to this radio. I'm now experiencing complete signal drops at least once an hour, have to toggle airplane mode to re-enable.
I tried rolling back to each other radio bar the first 3 or 4 with the same result.
Could it be something else or am I missing something when rolling back the radio?
It works fine for me as long as I stay in Copenhagen, but I've experienced losing signal altogether when travelling, this didn't happen before, so I think it's because of the radio.
I have a weird issue where I never seem to be able to access the Internet in any way until the connection icon changes from "3G" to "H". Is this normal? I haven't noticed this on the stock radio but then I didn't keep it that long...
Still having this "issue". Anyone else?
New version is working really better here.
Where could one get that version? And is it supposed to work on any ROM without breaking it?
I have the 32.44.00.32U_5.09.05.30_2 radio and am on Telus.
I have the same issue as you. When the icon shows 3G my internet doesnt work at all but as soon as it changed to H (bang) full speed internet..
It did it for me on the 32.43 radio but not on stock. Anyone know what the stock Telus Radio is?
Guys you do know on telus we dont have a 3G network its strictly "H" that would be why your internet does not work. I would like to know how you managed to get stuck in 3G as i never have.
I have no idea - i just updated radio and rom to 2.2 Official (but rooted) - i entered the apn settings from the telus website.
When on internet things will be fine, internet loading (H in task bar) and then suddenly it will turn to the 3G icon and internet will freeze until the H icon comes back. Strange...
When i go into the settings and check my phone model it says its a HTC Desire A8181 - i checked the internet and this model is 3G Dual-Band 900/2100MHz.
Before i flashed a 2.2 rom my model showed as HTC Desire 8182, which is 850/1900 3G.
Could this be why its getting stuck on 3G instead of H?
My model also displays HTC Desire A8181 and I'm running a 2.2 ROM.
I don't remember what it said before on the Telus stock rom, but I could try flashing it back to see, since I have it in backup.
If you could try flashing it back that would be great - i think i have my Nandroid backup but its on my works computer...

the modle should do anything i change mine to just HTC Desire, what rom are you running?
I have Edge access from Vodafone in India called mobile connect. I worked like a charm on stock HTC 2.2 ROM. I finally took the leap after finding HTC is not offering complete Gingerbread.
I found CM7 really good but one annoyance after having some troubles with importing SMSs.
I flashed 7.0.3 yesterday. Everything seems fine except data connection. It works randomly in my home. Works properly outside.
If my make a phone call then it connects and 'E' appears with two bars but only uploading. nothing downloads.
I tried *#*#4636#*#* and in phone information status appears as below when i choose "Enable Data connection"
==========DATA============
StatecInactiveState is connecting to vodafonegprs,1296,40427,www,,,,,,-1,*.
==========================
and after sometime is changes to
==========DATA============
StatecInactiveState disconnected with last try at 7.53PM fail because Radio not Available
==========================
I tried all options under "Set preferred network type" such as GSL Only, GSM Auto (PRL), GSM/CDMA auto (PRL) but none worked.
if Radio is not working then how are phone calls and SMS working !!!
I had flashed latest Radio also after flashing CM 7.0.3.
I read a lot about people losing 2G/3G data connection after switching from Wifi but I don't feel that is the problem with my phone.
Could anyone pls help?
Thanks in advance,
Ashish
I got the same problem. Probably. It does not work anywhere. The phone seems only uploading but it does not do anything, even the icon shows uploading. But no green icon of "H" or "E". I have GingerVillain based on CM7.
Upgrade to the 7.1.0RC release. A lot has been fixed since 7.0.3.
Swyped...
It seems that my APN settings was somehow changed - I had to set it according to my operator settings again. Dont know why or how but it was changed to "disabled_internet" instead of "internet" in APN.
it solved after I played around with radio band by pressing *#*#4636#*#*
I dont know what exactly solved it but after staying online when i was at office and outside, connection has been alive.
HELP
Help with this error: com.android.internal.telephony.CommandExcepti on: RADIO_NOT_AVAILABLE
Hey guys,
So I've noticed that I cannot do voice and data simultaneously (call someone and surf the web at the same time). I know its supposed to be possible under 3G and HSDPA for GSM networks. I am in a perfectly good HSDPA region (3G too for that matter, but my phone shows the H icon).
The only reason I can think that it is not working is because I am currently using the Vision_Radio_12.52. 60.25_26.08.04.30 (from *LEAK* Vision_Gingerbread_S_TMOUS_2.13) radio which is not the newest one.
So will upgrading my radio solve the problem (I can do voice and data fine individually.)? Or is it just not possible for some reason with this phone?
You can but only with 4g, the h on stock means 4 or 3g
No same for me and I am on a different radio the one ending .12,data turns off when talking,as to the reason why, I dont know, I just know it does not work.

Ok, but like I said, I am seeing an H indicating that I should be on a HSDPA network (there is a seperate 3G icon when I am in 3G).
Regardless of 3G or 4G, I thought GSM can support voice + data over both 3G and 4G.
Bombadier is using the latest radio and is having the same problem so I wonder what is the reason behind this...
Radio and ROM specs in my signature, I have no problems talking and surfing while in H or 3G.

Quick question do you have mobile network data always on?
Whatever the default is, I never manually turn it off, but I do use juice defender and allow it to turn off mobile data only when my screen is off.
Should of said on the phone running Unity, as I have it set from settings - wireless and network - mobile networks - not always on, will change it to always on and see if the connection stays on while talking.
Edit Just tested and the data connection stays on while I am on the phone, the OP should try mobile networks always on then.
My mobile network is already set to Always On.
When I get back home, I will update my ROM to the latest InserCoin v1.61 and the newest radio and report back. Hopefully, that will fix my problems.
Also, once I flash the newest radio, will I have to flash RIL too?
Just remember, newest radio doesn't always mean the best radio. I'm using an old one that after trying 5 different radios turned out to be the best.
Not sure about RIL's on sense though...
Seems to be all quiet about the need to match the rils,I used to, but had a few bad experiences matching the rils on the new unity releases 2.35+ so have stopped doing it,certainly with AOSP based roms it is not recommended to match, hope you get your problem sorted.
P.S. As the other chap said, the newest radio does not always mean the best radio,a bit of experimentation is required, also be sure to wipe the EFS data when changing radios.Link to a flashable zip can be found in the radio thread.
Updating to the newest ROM, kernel, and radio solved the problem. Thanks everyone for the help!
