As the title says, the ota froyo update wont install. Does anyone have a simple way of removing unrevoked as i only used it for wifi tethering. I didnt install any custom roms.
thanks
you probably have a branded desire ?!?!
DONT!!
You will loose all hope of rooting again.
Wait for the update.zip that's being uploaded.
Nope its unbranded, i can download it but the install stops
I have the same issue, was only interested in wifi tethering so used unrevoked to root my debranded Desire. OTA Froyo will download, but comes up with an error when installing.
I have also rooted my unbranded desire but I have not tried the OTA yet...does the update problem make the phone unusable or it still works with the old ROM?
The update just stops half way through, you just have to turn it off, but i think ive figured out how to unroot so you can get 2.2
Please share the method
Yes, please share your method of unrooting.
or ...Wait for the update.zip that's being uploaded... being as in now? And where is that?
42turkeys is trying to upload, when ... dont know...
Ok the method works, ive got froyo running but you lose all root access.
1. Remove SD Card
2. Connect USB cable to phone and PC
3. Hold VOL DOWN and POWER buttons to access the bootloader
4. Click Clear Storage
5. Once it starts to reboot take out battery
6. Replace battery and follow step 3
7. Click Fastboot
8. On the PC Start the RUU file and run through it
The RUU files can be found as a sticky on the desire android development thread
i used the second one down which is for unlocked and unbranded phones
Hope this helps
think twice before unrooting and updating.
read all these threads like "OMG with OTA can haz no root"
Hi guys,
I recently got my unbranded and unlocked desire, and as soon as i turned it on and connected to my wifi, the system found an upgrade (to 2.2) which i allowed it to install...
I then realised that this was not very wise if you want to root the phone, so i downgraded back to 2.1., with the 0.80 HBOOT.
I then tried to follow the instructions in the relevant thread to root the phone but when i go into step 1, it gives me the message "remote 43 main version check fail" and i think the update.zip does not get transferred properly.
I go through the rest of the instructions and on step 2, when the update.zip is being verified, it fails the verification and the process ends there...
I have tried with 2 different SD cards and it is the same for both.
Can anybody suggest a solution?
Thanks a lot.

You need to use unrevoked3 to root, the old method won't work on your phone.
Hey Teppic,
Thanks for your response.
I just re-upgraded in order to repeat the whole process.
Should i just use your downgrade tool and the unrevoked3 to root?
Is there a newbie-proof tutorial for unrevoked3?
Thanks once again
aalex
You didn't need to upgrade again, but yeah - my tool will downgrade you and then you can root with unrevoked3. It's easy, just enable USB debugging and plug your phone in!
Success!!
Thanks very much Teppic! Unrevoked worked and my Desire is now rooted!!!
Cheers!
I have rooted my DHD using unrevoked3. I have super user permissions app, and clockwork mod recovery. Then I read that you can't install a custom rom without S-OFF. Do I still need to do the Visionary+ w/DHD eng script?
I thought my DHD still had S-ON but now I don't think I could have clockwork without it being off.... I'm confused.
Anyways I did go ahead and attempt the Visionary+, but perm root doesn't seem to do anything. I could probably skip that step I guess. The DHD script complains about busybox not being installed which is probably done during the perm root of visionary. I then installed Titanium Backup and did the check errors function and installed busybox. It said it installed, but terminal emulator still complains about busybox.
Confused. Can anyone help me?

are you sure you have a DHD unrevoked is for the desire/evo/wildfire ect anyway however you rooted, you can use this tool to s-off

btw if you have rooted using unrevoked and have clockwork mod installed, you dont need to s-off to flash a rom, you already have write acess to the nand in recovery
How did you do that using unrevoked on DHD?
or you remove nandlock only with unrevoked and root with visonary ?
Something isn't right here. It isn't possible to root dhd with unrevoked

Further information on Unrevoked & DHD
I seem to be having the same problem as the OP.
A bit of background: I just upgraded from my HTC Hero, and had some experience of rooting and installing custom ROMS on that device. My first job when I got my new HTC Desire HD was to get it rooted so I could get all Orange's crap off of it and have a streamlined new phone.
However, in my haste, I used Unrevoked, failing to notice the difference between a bog-standard HTC Desire and the newer HTC Desire HD. The upshot: Unrevoked *did* succeed in rooting my phone and installing ClockworkMod Recovery, but now the recovery partition thinks it's an old-fashioned HTC Desire and so won't install DHD ROMS. I can install bog-standard Desire ROMS to my heart's content.
So, I'm in a bit of a mess. I want to install a DHD ROM on my DHD, but I can't. Also, now that I've already gone through one rooting process, the standard procedure doesn't work, so I'm at a bit of a loss as to how to proceed. Any advice would be appreciated. Should I:
- try to get the phone back to its unrooted condition as it was when it came out of the box (in which case how do I do that?)
- flash a different recovery partition in the hopes that I can get it to recognise that my phone's a DHD and not an old standard Desire?
- fiddle about with the ROMs to get them to bypass the device checks (in which case how do I do that?)
Any other suggestions, let me know. It's possible I may have stumbled on a new method for rooting a DHD...
To fix it, just flash 1.32.405.6 RUU.
But I have to say, that is not possible
Desire ROMs on DHD, without S-OFF, everything is just simply wrong. Are you even sure that you have a Desire HD? Please send me a picture of your Desire HD running some Desire ROM.
oops
OK, it appears that there's a much simpler solution. Orange appear to have sent me the wrong phone.
Sigh...
Hahhahhah, good job Orange
Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk
ok, so to Orange's credit, I've sent back the wrong phone, and they've sent me the right one, next day delivery, having knocked 40% off the original price. Looking forward to playing with it this evening - I won't be touching Unrevoked with a barge-pole!
thanks @jkoljo for alerting me to the possibility that I might have been sent the wrong thing!
we get there in the end...
Very nice, good luck with your new phone
I cant get into temp root with my Desire Z.
I've tried both manually with the rage method and with Visionary 14
Visionary just gives me a black screen and resets HTC sense after a while..
With rage i get to the part where i should restart the terminal emulator to get into a temp root shell, but it just freezes wile starting.
Any suggestions? (I am a total noob at rooting so please be gentle)
Hi guys.
I've tried both the manual rage and the automatic Visionary R14 methods.
I'm not able to get into temp root with anyone of these two methods
Visonary gives me a black screen and the rage method crashes the terminal emulator app after it restarts (Should restart into temp root, but it just crashes)
Both methods makes the devide VERY slow, i need to reboot to get it up to speed again.
Device info
Android version
2.2.1
Kernel version
2.6.32.21
Software number
1.82.405.1
Not sure what problem is I've 3 G2's rooted using both methods, double check ur steps.
Visionary was easiest n fastest way to root for me....try to factory reset and try visionary again?
Well, that is an easy one. Any ROM version above 1.34 is not yet rootable. You are 1.82.
You need to downgrade to the official 1.34 ROM for your phone carrier/region, then root.

Also, if you are not aware, the Visionary method is riskier than other methods, and can lead to an unrecoverable brick:

Kablamooo.... This has got to be the 4th or 5th thread about being unable to root lol.
Here you go. It's a guide that uses ADB & psneuters. It's probably the safest way of doing it.
Alternatively you can also try the HTC Vision Wiki one which is just as good
