Rom Manager, Use it to now rom or something else? - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
I have rooted my phone with this Unrevoked Method (http://lifehacker.com/5789397/the-always-up+to+date-guide-to-rooting-any-android-phone)
And then I installed the Rom Mangaer (v4.3.2.3) and pushed the Flash ClockworkMod Recovery, and that installed as ut shuld I think.
But if I try to hit the Fix Permissions, I get an error, and this started me to read about this. And it looks like many people don`t like this program. And that it is not verry dificult to do it manually eather. If thats thru.
But the question is, do I have done what I need to do it manualle, with the guide for HTC Desire GSM in that threead I gave a link to? Yes, I have the SuperUser Permissions on the phone. But that is also the only thing I can tell that I have. And of course the Rom manager.
But because of the fault in the Fix Permissons, I do not now have the full belive in that program.
Can someone pleace help me?
I have read these threeds:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=696189
http://theunlockr.com/2010/06/07/how-to-load-a-custom-rom-on-the-htc-desire/
http://theunlockr.com/2010/09/20/how-to-root-the-htc-desire-unrevoked-method/
But I`n not shore about it.
Kindly
Petter

All operations you can do with rom manager can be done in recovery, too. Rom manager is a horrible software which causes many system problems here.
So I highly recommend to do all operations "manually" in recovery instead of using rom manager.
To get into recovery boot your phone into bootloader (start it with pressed volume down and power button), select recovery with volume buttons and enter with power button.
I hope this could help you.

Hi again.
Thanks for answer.
But I have some more question(s).
I trie to read the links I have posted over. And there it says that I have to make a gold card.
But if the Rom Manager does the same as the recovery console (volume down + power on > recovery) why do I have to make the Gold Card?
And if I don`t have to, is there a good way to do this.
Other than use the ROM Manager.
Fells like I`m complitly lost here now. Sorry for this.
Kindly.

The goldcard is only for the situation, when you want to flash a ruu and get a cid error. If you put your created goldcard in your desire, this cid error will not appear and you can flash the ruu. Here is a good guide how to create one:
http://android.modaco.com/content/software/308798/pc-application-goldcardtool/

So I only need the Goldcard to use the RUU?
And if I don`t have misunderstood. RUU is just original ROMs from HTC?
So if I just want to use non original, it is not necessary to make one?
Kindly

Ruu are original roms from htc/your provider.
Making a goldcard is never necessary. Better have one and do not need it than need it, but don't have one.

Hi
I have installed the rom manager, but now if I try to install an normal update from HTC it self. It downoads and restart, I only get the droid with anouncement sign. And then I have to push the power button to get an menu. And that menu is the Clockwork menu.
Then it dont install the update.
Is this something with the clockwork to do?

Is there anyone that can help me with this?
If it is the ClockWork that is the problem?
How to disable?
Kindly

NEVER EVER install an official update on a rooted phone. It will screw things up.
If you already installed it, then possibly you have to wipe everything and flash a custom ROM again.
If that does not help - use a RUU.
2. You can't disable CWM - you can use a RUU to get rid of it.

Ok. Thanks for answer.
I will not trie it any more.

[Q] Please HELP! I cannot access recovery or OS

I flashed my HTC Desire with O Desire. It didn't reboot and now it can't access the recovery. I partitioned my sd card before flashing .. but I forgot to put my files back .. so that may be the problem. Is my recovery messed up now ? How would I be able to fix this without going into recovery !
It's a Telus SLCD one. It goes into the bootloader fine, but it won't go into recovery . I've tried using unrevoked again to put another recovery but I realized that I can't activate USB debugging in the bootloader.
Please help, I'm a university student living away from home, and I have no way to contact my family!
I had a similar problem trying to install a custom rom on my telstra slcd desire, and buggered the OS and recovery. I was able to recover back to stock by going into fastboot on the phone then flashing an official RUU from HTC.

Could you give me a step by step on how to do that?
Also would it matter which RUU I use ? I'm planning to try rooting it again anyway.
I'd hate to double post but I need to fix this problem ASAP. I have no way to contact my family because we only communicate through phone. Is there anyway to fix this problem ?
I also tried using an RUU but it failed, probably because I don't have a goldcard. But how can I make a goldcard without the phone ?!
Try running this official stock RUU that is compatible with SLCD Desires, link is here:
http://shipped-roms.com/shipped/Bra...1.00.32U_4.08.00.09_release_137222_signed.exe
I've tried this rom, it doesn't work :S. It's most likely because it's a Telus desire and I have no goldcard. Any suggestions? I'm really running out of ideas. :S
EDIT: Is it because my current version is 1.29.661.1 and the install shield is trying to "upgrade" it to 1.21.405.2 ?
Can you try the "reset device" option in either h-boot or fastboot. I've had a similar ordeal on a hero and that took care of it, I was able to boot back into recovery.

[Q] Root via fastboot?

Are there ways to root using fastboot? Have usb brick but working fastboot, and guide using android emulatro doesnt work. Have latest RUU with 0.93 hboot
Have you tried running an RUU from HTC? They completely restore your phone to how it was, and your device only needs to be turned on on the bootloader screen for it to work. (power up with volume down pressed)
Note that this wil completely wipe the phone's internal memory. (though not the sd card)
You can find the RUUs here. If you have an unbranded device (meaning it wasn't customized by the carrier), this is probably the one you're looking for.
Remember: if the device powers on, it isn't bricked!
That post of RUUs is VERY old, here's the site which has them all...
http://shipped-roms.com/index.php?category=android&model=Bravo
It was rooted originally with oxygen. When brick, I used downgrade tool, pimg.img zip from sdcard in hope for it to fix itself. Installed upgrades from htc to froyo. No luck
but if possible to push ruu using fastboot I will try it. Strange thing, it will only charge if rebooting via fastboot, and its then detected as in need of qualcomm drivers.. no luck finding working drivers to that.. Haven't found similar case in any forums. ideas?

For drivers you should install htc sync.
I know, but it doesn't take.. Thanks for hint though
Update. When I tried to run RUU in windows I only get 170 connection error, also in fastboot mode. Found it as PB99IMG file and ran it through SDcard, but it didnt fix usb problem.. Is there a difference between those two methods when i comes to degree of restoring? Dont think so, anyway..
I'm not entirely sure, but you can try this: when the device's powered on and connected in bootloader mode, go into the Device Manager, and find your phone in the list. Right click and choose the option to install a new driver (I don't know the exact function name in English, my system's locale is Dutch). Then, go to the screen where you can select a driver. Select HTC in the vendor list and install the driver. That should fix your 170 error.
If that doesn't work, try this, and optionally the above again.
http://android.modaco.com/content/h...com/309939/usb-brick-rickrolled-b0rked-fixed/ download zip from here and flash from recovery after renaming it update.zip

Big thanks, but I´ve sent it in for repair. Hope to get in on garantee, but if not, I will just get it returned and try it out..
You need root for that though which he (and me) probably has not.
No, you don't. You can flash update.zip through the stock recovery.
Do you have access to that?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
I've never had to do a usb-brick fix, but from what I understand, you should have root to flash that particular "update.zip", because otherwise you'll end up with a sig ver error or some sort of that.
As said in the first step "1. Follow this r5 rooting guide to do Step 1 of the rooting. That will give you a basic ROM to work with, with root capability."
The reason I think you need to flash it as an "update.zip" file is because the r5 method in itself does not flash a custom recovery (from which you can flash files without regard to the name).

[Q] RUU restore for warranty fails: error 140. Anyone can help?

Hi guys,
I own a Fastweb branded desire and back key isn't working anymore.
So I'm tring to restore the branded official rom for warranty.
I got s-off and root and my gold card is in.
I've flashed the old modaco r6 rom to avoid main version is older and flashed downgrade hboot(alpharev) too.
When I start the ruu hboot 0.75 and old radio are flashed properly, but I still have custom splash and cwm recovery also system is untouched.
Ruu stops with error 140 bootloader problem.
I'm still able to flash custom roms and I can s-off again, but I really don't know what to do.
Any help?
Thanks.
Best regards.

jussy,
I had exactly the same problem so I'll answer even tho this is the wrong thread. You have to start first by extracting the zip file from the RUU. Run the RUU until it gets to the first screen then leave it there (don't close it).
Go to Start -> Run and type %temp%.
Find the temporary folder folder that's just been created (sort based on date) and find a file called 'rom.zip'. Copy this file into another location and close the RUU.

I've extracted rom.zip and renamed to PB99IMG.zip. tried to flash it in fastboot.
Flash process start but stops before finishing leave me in the same situation as before. If I want to flash it again gives me main version is older.
I've s-off it 10 times today and made many try.
EDIT: I've also tried to flash via fastboot commander the .img files in rom.zip but after that I could only access fastboot.
Now I've flash a generic ruu to make it boot.
Tbh mate I'm not sure how to change it lol.. mayb delete and repost in q&a..

Dude, don't flash the zip, just put it in the root of your SD, then switch phone off, hold vol down button and reboot into recovery, your phone will recognize the pb99img.zip and some options should come up. Follow the on screen instructions and you should be unrooted in 15 mins max.

Sorry for my bad english but what you said is what I've done.
1-root and s-off.
2-flash downgrade hboot(alpharev).
3-put PB99IMG.zip (extract as said from my branded ruu) on sd card root.
4-boot power + vol down.
5-It starts, step 1 goes well then at the end of step 2 screen became black and came back with 0.75 hboot s-on and if I try again it gives me main version is older.
So I can only reboot, reflash a rom and s-off it again.
Never ending loop...
Thanks anyway.
You are using wrong RUU.use the RUU with 5.11.05.27 , I am on mobile so can't give you the exect link.I will post it tomorrow for you, if you can't find.

I've got my gold card already in.
Sadly there's only one ruu for my carrier.
I can flash a generic froyo ruu but it's not good for warranty.
I can't really help in terms of your issue.
If I remember right, I booted into the bootloader and switched on fastboot, then ran the RUU EXE making sure my phone was connected to my pc.
It eventually came right.
Saying that, after I got the stock ROM back on, my phone went ape (and to this day I have no idea why). Random restarts. Freezing. It was crazy. I had to upgrade the RUU for it to stay on properly. Was really weird.
There are so many threads about rooting for warrantee purposes, perhaps search them or go through thier instructions, cause I'm sure someone may have had the same issue.
Wish I could help you though.

Now this is the second time I bring it to assistence (last time was for vol down) and when they give it back to me it was updated to froyo.
I'm facing problem with 1.15=>1.21 OTA, installation is aborted due to status 7 (if some one can help I'll post the full error message).
Unfortunetly the ruu I've used is the only one from my carrier.
Will they know that my phone was updated by them and I'll lose my warranty?
Any idea about fixing status 7?

Stuck on safety screen following RUU flash plaus other issues

Hi. Firstly yes I have read, thread after thread after thread and I am now the owner of a useless phone.
Rom RUU_Buzz_TMO_UK_1.14.110.1_Radio_13.45.55.24_3.35.15.19_release_130442_signed
Kernal no clue right now
Radio 3.35.15.19
Hboot 6.01.1002
s- off
Tweaks / coustomizations you installed. none now
Memory card partitions info. it is partitioned but I cant remember now what size.
Brief history.
I was running latest CM7 but could not get GPS at all. I tried to flash various radio updates and got nowhere. In fact I only successfully flashed one and then I lost all my contacts and the damn phone decided not to sync with gmail so I thought sod it I will go back to stock and ran RUU_Buzz_TMO_UK_1.14.110.1_Radio_13.45.55.24_3.35.15.19_release_130442_signed exe.
Now I am stuck on the safety screen and bootloader is saying there is no backup etc.
Now. I have read through various threads, tried various things but I cant get teh damn thing to work.
Please dont say I should read this thread etc because I can assure you I have just been through 4 hours worth of them today and christ knows how many on this and other sites over the past month trying to get this bloody phone to work properly.
Can anyone give me some clear instructions where I can find out what my exact modle is, as I am beginning to think the processor etc in this phone is different to the ave Wildfire.
I dont care if its branded, stock, modded. I need it to txt, phone, www and GPS. Right no I just got the safety bar and no way of accessing the menus.
Chers. Chris
Im guessing I need to drop a rom in the SD card and recover that image.
But what ROM Ive downloaded every single one I can find. When I run recovery, there is a picture of a phone with a caution sign on it.
Step 1 - Recovery fix
Hi there!
The problem is that you don't have the correct recovery installed or this has been corrupted. Now, before we get started I just need to ask one question, as stupid as it may seem, I just need to make sure.
Do you own a HTC Wildfire (i.e. Buzz) or a HTC Wildfire S?
If it's the S one DO NOT try this fix! It may be that you have been trying to install the wrong soft on your phone an that's why it's not working. Instead, go to the HTC Wildfire S section of the forum.
However, if it's the regular HTC Wildfire (i.e. Buzz) you can proceed.
I've put together a little fix for you, just follow the steps below:
0. Download attached file and extract it somewhere easy to access.
1. Start phone in bootloader. ( volume down + power button)
2. Wait for phone to settle. (detects SD card, etc.)
3. Using volume buttons go to FASTBOOT and then select it by pressing the power button.
4. Connect your phone to the computer via USB cable.
6. Browse to the folder where you extracted the attachement and run as administrator the file flashrecovery.bat (right-click and select 'Run as administrator')
7. Follow the steps on screen.
8. All done! Now you should be able to go into RECOVERY to install a custom ROM.
OK I finally flashed a RUU that is working. Its from Japan with English option. But I have a working phone. It just wont access the market or any email and thinks im asian.
Has anyone got a working stock rom for a UK buzz please.

I was just about to write step 2 of the fix I gave above.
However, if you just want a HTC stock ROM just install the one below:
RUU_Buzz_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.22.405.1_Radio_13.55.55.24H_3.35.20.10_release_160191_signed.exe
---------- Post added at 06:52 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:50 PM ----------
Since your phone is S-OFF with the Revolutionary HBOOT, the HTC stock ROM won't be able to overwrite the HBOOT which is a good thing.
However, it WILL overwrite the recovery so if you want to install the recovery at a later date you will have to go through the Step 1 listeb above.

Hi yes its a Wildfire (buzz). something odd about it as I flashed 5 RUU's and none of them worked and now im up and running on a Korean language with English option.
Just stick onto that Korean ROM and then run the one in my previous link. That is the HTC Stock World Wide ROM - it should work on ANY HTC Wildfire (Buzz).

Cheers. I am not a lover of the stock HTC rom, but I need the GPS to work and CM7 just doesnt and I have no intention of becoming a wizzkid at tweaking phones just to get them to do what they should, which it seems CM7 will make me.
At least I got teh phone to work without help which I am chuffed about. But I cannot even connect to market contacts or facefarce with this present one.

What I meant is that now that you have a ROM installed you don't need to go through the steps that I was planning to explain.
Instead, if you want to get the stock HTC ROM all you have to do is to run the RUU that I mentioned in one of my previous posts.

As I was also saying, this ROM is definitely going to work fine on your phone.

If you really want ROOT, that's easy enough to do now that you have the ROM I recommended. There's 2 ways depending on the HBOOT that you now have now your Wildfire. The stock ROM may have overwritten the Revolutionary HBOOT so you first need to check that:
1. Start you phone in boot mode (volume down + power) and see what the version number is.
2. If it's Hboot 1.01.0001 then you have HTC stock HBOOT so now you also have to look at the very first line to see if it's S-OFF or S-ON.
3. Otherwise, if it's Hboot 6.01.1002 (or anything that starts with 6) then you're still on Revolutionary HBOOT.
Now, based on the findings of the above, chose the option that suits you:
Option 1: for Revolutionary HBOOT 6.01.1002
1. Simply follow the steps in my very first post in this thread to restore your recovery. (this will have been overwritten by the stock RUU).
2. Copy the Superuser-3.0.7-efgh-signed.zip (see attached) file to your SD card, boot into recovery and install the zip. Now, you'll have root.
3. [Optional - only needed for some apps to run in root] Go to the Market and download BusyBox then install it in both locations, i.e. system/bin and then system/xbin.
4. That's it! You're all rooted now!
Option 2: for HTC stock HBOOT 1.01.1001 with S-ON
1. Go through the Revolutionary process again and at the end it will ask you if you want to install a recovery. Make sure that you DO!
Now follow steps 2 - 4 from Option 1 above.
Option 3: for HTC stock HBOOT 1.01.1001 with S-OFF
Well, this is very unlikely to happen but if it does you can either:
1. Try to use Unrevoked and then you may need to do step 3 from Option 1.
2. Or simply go straight to steps 2 - 4 from Option 1 above.
THAT'S IT! Now you should have root again!

You need to reflash with the original RUU, you can find some RUUs from here: http://www.filefactory.com/f/7cc7b2fbdd03c031/
THIS PROCESS NEEDS A RELOCKED PHONE. (fastboot oem lock).
edit: the RUU for your version isnt published already. You need to wait for the RUU, Why can you use an older version? You can't because the DOWNGRADE isn't posible with S-ON.
If you know what file you modified, maybe extract it from a similar ROM and adb push it?
if youve edited the build.prop without backing it up first then quite simply youre asking for trouble....
ALWAYS Nandroid and back up anything before altering it.
If you can access download mode then your safe, just connect up usb for fastboot and run a downloaded RUU, if youre not sure what rom to get then id try HTC EUROPE ones they first, these are probably the most common ones.

i will backup the file to PC in next time when i edit any system file...... i have learn a lesson
Yer try not to mess with the build.prop, i know its fun to tinker and see what can be achieved, but there is also a serious risk that comes with it, unfortunatley the file will stop your phone dead if you mess it up, if you save a backup to your pc then worst case you can push it to your phone via adb and overwrite the damaged one.
What CID are u on, eg, htc--001 ??, cidgetter works from market but not much use if you cant boot up, also what firmware are you running now, release, radio and release keys, that way you could extract the boot, recovery and system from the file and just flash them in bootloader.
YOU must relock your bootlock first, the above command in other post was the one to do that, if not, have u tried to flash CWM 5.8.3.1, and install from the recovery youll get both the super su and a custom rom, like android revolution, this way youll be back up and running on a custom rom based on the latest 1.29, you could then download the 1.29 ruu and run it, again after relocking the bootloader and for good measure download and install htcsync, the program delivers a much better driver for the one x, that should get you back to factory, unrooted, stock boot and firmware.
if the ruu isnt avail, find out what your latest ruu is and look for a custom rom based on that.
Keep us informed how you get on, im sorry you learnt the lesson the hard way, i would not wish this to happen to anyone, except for maybe Bill Gates lmao, but then he would just throw it in the bin and go buy another one ha ha.
I hope you get it sorted and remember, before you tinker, READ the guides on XDA, they are good and will really help you and always make a backup of anything you wish to experiment with.
Good luck.
If you still remember the file, try to get it from someone with the same version as you and push it through adb or recovery (if you can go to hboot, surely you can flash cwm again).
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
I hope u can read chinese
I had the same problem... and before.. i just flash the RUU again, but after i upgraded to 1.29.. that didn't work...(The RUU I had was 1.26) so with ALOT of searching on the internet.. i found the below Chinese site.. and luckily i can read chinese too...
anyway hope it helps.
Basically what i did was force the recovery to be install on my phone.. but there is a down side.. me alarm doesn't work.. everytime i try to change the alarm sound it just reboot... i am still trying to find a way to fix it... and maybe flash the 1.28 RUU to see if that will work.... but that will have to wait until tonite.
